Postgame Availability | NYI vs WPG (10/13/25)

You came out really aggressive. Um, but you weren’t rewarded for it. Uh, on the scoreboard. Yeah. No, no, we weren’t we weren’t rewarded for it. We played a, you know, with a much better first period than we did the other night. Um, created a lot of looks, especially off the get-go. Um, found ourselves down two, but uh, didn’t deviate away from our game in that point and, uh, stuck with it. thing is tonight it’s there’s there’s moments in games uh right now that we’re uh we’re not winning those moments. Those are the moments whether there it’s a mistake or a slight breakdown, whatever it is, those are the moments we’re losing right now and it’s costing us games. Is one of those moments 2-1 giving up the goal right away? Yeah, it’s tough. We we get our momentum back a little bit. We pop one. We finally break the seal uh after sticking with it through the the hockey that we’ve been playing. and um you know for them to respond right away uh takes a sail but uh not entirely. I thought we we continue to stick with it but overall we’re just we’re we’re we’re shooting ourselves in the foot too much. On the positive side, third straight game with over 30 shots. So you got to think some of those are going to start going in. Yeah, it’s a little dry for sure. Um we’re not getting by them right now. we can get we can do a better job of getting in front of their eyes and and finding some rebounds, but uh we’re creating enough to get those those shots and those opportunities. Uh and they’ll start to go in. Just got to stick with it on that and can’t deviate from the offensive side of things. Uh even though it’s not going in. How would you assess the power play? Well, we had our opportunities tonight. I think um you get that many power plays and you know the kill was uh kind of a special teams night a little bit. Uh, you know, we got to find one. Got to find an extra one and um, you know, get ourselves some momentum. We had some good puck possession for sure. Uh, moving it around. Couple nice plays. Uh, just didn’t get it in. How frustrating is it feel like you guys were so close? Like I said, I would shoot three straight nights and ton of power play chances. Our game works like that sometimes. It is frustrating for sure. There’s no doubt about it. We want to get a win here. Um uh so no one’s happy right now, but uh hockey hockey works that way sometimes. You got to you almost get kicked one more time before before you break through. So let’s make that one tonight. Patrick, you got the start you wanted. It just you didn’t get one in there. That would have kind of Yes. I mean Barsy had a great chance. Palmsy had a great chance. Um no, we had a really I thought not only we had a great start, I thought we had a great game. Uh five on five. who was what 27 14 shots on net for us. We had what five power plays. I thought we moved the puck very well. Their goalie made some great saves. Their goalie was really good. Um he was a factor in that game. Uh thought our killing did a great job as well. Uh even if we gave a goal with what 2 seconds left in that one. So overall, I mean, I know it’s sounds like a moral victory, but I mean, and we’re not in that business, but I felt like if we play like this, we’re going to win our share of games. I mean, the guys were the guys play with the urgency that I was looking for. Um, we did we we we I thought we were really good in our Dzone coverage. I thought we we were really good. I mean, offensively, we controlled the puck. Um, seriously, I mean I other than having two points, we played a good game. Is it the little moments where you, you know, you get to two to one and you give up that goal right away? Is that sometimes too much to ask for there? Yeah, it does. It’s probably affecting you at some point, but I don’t think it it did affect us. I felt like we kept playing. We doesn’t matter if they score or not. The guys kept playing. That’s what I love about our group. They they are resilient. they they came and um they never give up and and we know we want to win game. I mean probably next question is urgency of winning game every day. It’s an urgency of winning a game. Every day we want to win your next shift or the next period and and I think we we did we played well enough tonight this afternoon, sorry, to win the game. Yeah, some of the defensemen particularly were talking about disappointment over oddman rushes and you know maybe not containing enough there. Were you seeing that too or Well, we’ve been giving chances on our unmanned rush for some reason. Um and and obviously I mean it’s something that we need to clean up. Absolutely. I know you talked about the goal that I gave up you know right after. I mean, he’s making some unbelievable acrobatic saves, but there there was a shot like that. Are you concerned about the consistency early in the season? No, I got a lot of trust in him. A lot of trust in him. Um, I know that he said he he took the blame for a couple goals, but on my side, he’s got my trust. And I guess the obligatory Matthew Schaefer question, you know, again, over 26 minutes today. And you know, you’re integrating him into the penalty killer as well. How do you see him building, you know, game by game? Same way you do, you know, basically. I mean, it’s it’s fun to watch and um he’s playing with a lot of confidence. But you know what I love about his game? He’s got no hesitation. He’s going in and you know what? I don’t give a damn. He could make a mistake. I don’t care. Keeps playing. And And that’s what I that’s what we we’re saying to all our DS. No hesitation, guys. Come on, play. And and and I I I feel like um he’s been fun to watch. Fun to watch. What did you see from the fourth line today? Um they had some good, they had some bad. I mean, um, obviously they’re on the ice for, I think, a couple goals. Um, and I know how much pride these guys have. Uh, it happens and but there’s always, you know, like the third goal, I question the call on the ice. I think there was an interference on on on Schaefer on that one. So, you know, made a difference on the play. So, that’s me the way I saw the play. I’m sure you did the same. So, I mean, but overall, I mean, it’s it’s a team game and got uh got to be together on this. And with Holmes from specifically, I guess, how how can he maybe just get get himself a little more involved uh offensively? Well, I thought he made a great play example on the third goal in Pittsburgh. Nice pass. He’s doing playing well on the PK. And right now, I mean, when you don’t win, you try different things. And that’s exact. It’s all it’s the only thing the only reason why he’s he’s there. Just what does he see from Duclair with Barzal today? I thought he played well. I mean the play he made on that first first chance I thought Tony Antony played a really good game. Absolutely really good.

  1. The vets are not pulling their weight and they are not the future so it’s time to make the cuts. Get the young guys on the ice. Let’s see Ritchie, get Gleb for a big body in front of the net.

Also how do we start the 3rd with a power play and not have a good entry drawn up? They wasted that PP at a pivotal part of the game .

  2. The vets have absolutely ZERO finish in the front end and the defense is swiss cheese minus Schaefer. Pulouck, Pelech? Romanov just signed a fresh contract – absolutely nothing to be happy about and frankly it's very concerning. 16 minutes for guys making 6M and 26 minutes for an 18 year old. What does that say about the players on this team. I'll tell you – zero leadership that's what.

  3. Roy actually said that he thought they had a great game…. You had the wrong players together on the lines, you're not holding your Vets accountable, you're not making the right changes at key moments, etc etc etc… start packing Patrick.

  4. TOP 3 PROBLEMS WITH ISSUES THAT NEED TO BE RECTIFIED IMMEDIATELY. 1.Roy is not a good coach period. 2. No legit 1st fine forwards on this team no finishers.,shabanov and heineman actually appear to be their best finishers. 3. Their defense is atrocious minus shaefer nobody can actually play defense. Oh and it has been proven time and time again sorokin is a excellent goalie when you dont overwork him yet we continue to overwork him making him appear very average. Darche needs to fix this mess now before this season goes down the toilet.
