RED WINGS STUN LIGHTNING IN OVERTIME WIN! AXEL SANDIN-PELLIKKA’S FIRST NHL GOAL + DYLAN LARKIN

[Music] No, Raymond, no problem, folks, because the Detroit Red Wings have just done it again with a pretty nice win over the Tampa Bay Lightning. 2-1 in overtime in a game that once again did not feature Redwing superstar Lucas Raymond. And you know, I was a little bit worried heading into today’s game for Detroit because of course, no Raymond. That’s a pretty big loss for any hockey team really. But it’s the fact that Tampa Bay hasn’t really been all too good this season. I mean, they haven’t been able to string together the wins or the results that they wanted to. And you know, that team, they’re pretty good. They’re going to break out eventually. I was kind of thinking if there’s any game for Tampa to start really turning it on, it could probably be today’s game. John Gibson hasn’t really inspired much confidence in the games he has played so far. And no, Lucas Raymond gives Tampa a pretty big opportunity to capitalize on a team that’s not at 100%. But man, was I wrong. The Red Wings take this one 2:1 in overtime. John Gibson made 32 saves on 33 shots against. And despite the fact that there was no Raymond, the team still played a pretty solid game. Now, that’s not without its faults. I’d say that Tampa did have an extended amount of zone time for a good chunk of this game and even in the overtime period. We saw Tampa controlling the momentum, controlling the play, but when it comes to just the regular old scoring chances, oh boy, the Detroit Red Wings really did turn it on quickly and they maintained that momentum heading into the third period where Tampa really started to push on the Jets to come back, which they inevitably did. They tied the game 1-1, but ultimately it’s Detroit that takes the dub in the end. Now, not too many goals to talk about in this hockey game because of course, I mean, two to one, but the very first goal of the game is the first goal of an NHL career. It’s Axel Sandine Pelica who ends up taking a really nice lane into the middle of the offensive zone. He puts the puck on his side. He shifts his weight and he fires it towards the goal. It goes in off of Brandon Hegel stick up and through Vaselvki and it’s a really nice first NHL goal. Santi Pelica gets the marker and the assists go to Larkin and Appleton. Appleton was right in front of the goal. There was kind of a debate as to whether or not he tipped the puck in, but no. Upon video review, it’s Brandon Hegel, whom the puck bounces off of. Larkin, though, of course, getting back up on the board here. Nice to see that out of the Detroit Red Wings Capitan. And that continues as the only goal of the game throughout the entire rest of the first and the entire second period up until 4 minutes left in the third period where JJ Moser Yanis Moser ends up ripping a shot from the blue line. He’s got a lot of space. It’s not a power play, but it kind of looks like one because the wings weren’t really challenging Tampa in this shift here. Was quite a while. Tampa was just cycling it around. That’s why Moser is able to get that big wind up for a big one-time slap shot and it goes right through everybody. Somehow it finds a hole and gets into the back of the net. 1-1 game heading into the overtime period, which is where Tampa really started to put it on. I’d say it was kind of dangerous a lot of the offensive opportunities that Tampa had, but inevitably after a really solid number of oddman rushes that are thwarted aside by John Gibson, you have one really big play that results in a breakaway for Dylan Larkin. All three Tampa Bay guys are too close to the net as the puck ricochets off the end boards. It’s into the neutral zone where Raymond picks it up, comes in on a breakaway, and then he just buries it by Andre Vaselvki. Easy. Like, obviously, we understand that these NHL players have so much skill and it takes a lot of talent to do what they do, but the way that Larkin looked, I mean, he looked kind of casual, but hey, I’m not saying that he’s a casual player. I’m saying that he made it look easy being able to just pop that loose puck, breakaway puck right by Andre Vaselpski as if he was a Beer League goalie. So Dylan Larkin gets the unassisted mark at the end of the game. That’s his seventh point on the season and his third goal. Really nice to see out of the Detroit Red Wings, especially coming off of a very tidy win a few nights ago against the Florida Panthers. This game against Tampa, maybe not the perfect ending that we would have wanted. Obviously, giving John Gibson the shut out would have been a really nice way to kick off his successful Detroit Red Wings season after the odd few games that he had earlier on. But getting the win in OT after making some stops, that of course is pretty nice, too. 30 plus saves for the new Red Wings goalender. And plus, you have to be happy for Axel Sandine Pelica, a guy who has worked himself up to this point and whose first NHL goal wasn’t wasted. It didn’t come as just a regular old nothing burger that resulted in some loser points for the Red Wings. No, it was a pretty important goal and it leads to Detroit having to lead for most of this game. Big dub out of the Mtown Red Wings. and with the goal as well. I think Dylan Larkin just broke Steve Eisermanman’s record for most overtime goals by a Detroit Redwing. Yeah, we had this conversation a few times over the years, but the fact that threeon-ree overtime is now the standard. Obviously, more players are going to score more goals and the top players are going to have more ice time in overtime compared to before. So, not really too surprising that these goal records are being broken by teams in overtime, but Larkin is indeed doing the thing, scoring as many goals as he can and giving the Red Wings the win. So, let me know your thoughts in the comments section below about the Detroit Red Wings. This is their fourth win in a row, by the way. I don’t know if y’all caught that, but they’ve been pretty good. It’s kind of funny for me especially because I try to make videos on my three favorite teams, Vancouver, Montreal, and Detroit. For the most part, like I’m used to seeing seasons where Vancouver’s doing pretty well and Montreal doesn’t really do all too well. Same with Detroit. They’re just kind of out there. The Wings haven’t made the playoffs in so long that it’s been kind of a pattern over the past few years of covering this team that they’re not really great. But now everything’s flipped up on its head. Montreal and Detroit are doing amazing. Vancouver struggling against teams like Chicago and they’re not really getting the results that they want. So much expectation for my Vancouver squad, but it’s Montreal and Detroit that are providing all of the wins and a lot of positivity for these fan bases. So, we’ll see if that continues heading into the next few weeks over here. But for now, let me know your thoughts about the Detroit Red Wings fourth straight win and Axel Sandine Pelica’s first NHL goal. John Gibson with his first win and Larkin with yet another overtime marker and his seventh point on the season. If you enjoyed this video, feel free to hit the like button. 1. 4 wins in a row
    All against divisional teams
    All against playoff teams
    Including the defending Cup champs
    3 were in regulation
and 2 were without our leading point producer last year.

Nice start, boys. Very nice start, indeed.

  2. We have to hand it to the coach, McClellan, for putting Gibson in there tonight. Gibson really did a great job, especially keeping those pads at ice level and swallowing up rebounds. Good to see we have two goalies that can get the job done. Larks was once again the low profile hero. So good to see! LGRW!

  3. Nice to see the Wings winning. And I expect they should only get better as the younger players gain experience. But, I’m not sure the Wings will make the playoffs. So far, they have over achieved. The goalies have excelled and the Wings have won 4 games that were all up for grabs in the 3rd period. Hoping they can keep it going….
