Huge gamble, the team is not a bunch of 18yo kids, nor is SEC MLB…
Color me intrigued. Looks like David villar tho

good lord
Buster sees what the Dodgers are doing right now. Giants will not be matching up with them talent wise anytime soon. Need to catch up in other ways. If the Giants have success with the manager seeming to fire everyone up, this can be a place where top free agents will want to sign for once. All in.
Let’s do it
Feels like a Nick Saben to the Dolphins or even our guy Jim H. We’ll see. Never playing in the majors may not get him the respect from the clubhouse but if he can make the right calls, it all doesn’t matter.
I guess Hundley prefers San Diego ..interesting choice
If there is a manager with similar “experience” that is a successful MLB manager, lay it out for me…

I blindly trust this guy but even I’m unsure how to feel
He’s not Bob Melvin, which I like about him.
I like going out of the box with the guy that turned Tennessee from a laughingstock into a powerhouse. I would much rather a hire like this than getting somebody Like Bochy or Joe Madden or some other old manager. I appreciate trying something new

Tony V when asked about he feels about the dodgers.
He’d add more to the handsomes
I fucking dig it. This team was their best when they were scrappy, willing to fight, and playing good fundamental baseball.
I know Vitello is an “unknown quantity in the MLB” but he turned around the culture of University of Tennessee’s baseball program and turned them into the envy of the NCAA. That translates to all levels of ball.
If anything, he will light a fire under this team and get them playing with that swagger you see good college teams play with.

It’s exciting. He seems to know baseball and gets a lot out of his players. Hopefully it transfers to MLB, but I’m excited about the hire (if true).
I want to know the plan for his position coaches.
Sure, why not.
4th in NL West.
Buster’s going to try the veal?
Jumping straight to the pros with no experience? I hope he hires some position coaches with some experience.
No idea without knowing who the coaching staff is and their background. That’s equally if not more important than the manager these days.
I’m pumped for this. Posey has been bold and the moves seem to work out with Adames and devers and now if he trusts a college coach to manage them I trust it and the energy is unmatched so it should make for an entertaining team culture and atmosphere. I can’t wait for the roster moves this offseason now since so far with Posey you never know what he’ll do next and he has usually done something big and interesting.
Also, I wish we had a live look in on Drew Gilbert’s reaction to the news. Gotta imagine he’s racing to wherever Chapman is for a celebratory choking 😂
Everywhere this man has coached, every program he’s touched, they’ve improved massively. Mizzou, TCU, Arkansas, Tennessee. I’m pretty sure his post season appearance rate across those 4 is close to 75%. When he got to Tennessee, they’d been mid (see: Giants sitting at .500) for a decade. They’ve made the post season 5 years in a row now
And college coaching is hard. Any given year, you might lose half or more of your starting lineup. You have complete turnover every 3-4.
By all appearances, he’s a great leader.
This is a positive in terms of hunkiness at least!!
Considering everyone has just been talking about former players with no managing experience whatsoever I kinda dig this choice in comparison. Let’s see what this approach with mlb resources can gain
I like itÂ
We are so far behind in talent we might was well get weird
Very much onboard with this! Lock him up long term, Buster!
So he looks good in orange, but what about black?
He did very well for College players be interesting to see if he can get buy in and dedication from rich athletes.
Funny I keep going through who would be the best choice for manager and the same name comes up everytime, but it will never happen, the person who would make an awesome manager is Buster Posey.
Everyone (including myself) has been bitching about the farm system and development for YEEAAARS. This should do a whole lot to turn that around. If nothing else our drafts will be meaningful now. And if he keeps the team fired up and sassy, bring it the fuck on. I’m so stoked. One thing is for damn sure, it won’t be boring. The complete opposite of cardboard bob.
How about Tommy Vercetti
Was this Gilbert’s coach? If so, could be interesting.
I like the choice. I’d love to see them bring in other candidates for coaching roles — like Mark DeRosa as a hitting instructor specifically. New pitching coach would be great.

I’m 100% on board
Good yes
Very intriguing, I like it!
I think its the best option out there, very happy
If we can’t steal Vogt, why not
Looks very promising. In Posey we trust

There have been great managers to never play at the highest level: https://bleacherreport.com/articles/1164232-baseballs-top-8-all-time-managers-who-never-played-in-the-majors.
