There will certainly be growing pains but this kid is the real deal. He’s going to be a top 5 defenseman in the league inside of a year or two.

He’s crazy awesome to watch. Crazy to think this is a guy who’s a defensemen too!
And only 18, he’s not even supposed to know how to play in the NHL yet, and has 5 points. Just imagine how good he’ll be when he figures out the NHL.
3 of his 4 assists are primary right now. Kid drives offense and isn’t sacrificing defense for it
I am Red Wings fan because I grew up in Detroit. I am also a Devils fan cause I know reside in Princeton. All that said, I want this kid to be successful. Good guy. Helluva hockey player. All the best.
I remember when people were saying to take Hagens over Schaefer because he was the hometown kid.
What a great surprise. So many 1OAs were super hyped and ended up being underwhelming. Meanwhile I don’t think Schaefer had a tone of hype comparatively and he’s already shown he’s gonna be a franchise cornerstone
