New York Knicks Vs Charlotte Hornets Full Game FINAL | Oct 17, 2025 NBA Preseason TODAY
This team shooting over 40 a game well on their way. So the third quarter underway Okconor a terrific addition to the coaching staff. Mike Brown ravening about him. You know since he’s a great young coach is Jeff Van Gundy. They coached together here in New York and in LA with the Clippers. Chris Jen another brand new coach Duce McBride takes the 31st three-pointer Allan and knocks that one down. That’s going to be a number to watch this season as Mike Brown has made that clear. The Knicks did not attempt a lot of threes over the last couple of years. Well, Miles McBride starting the second half as is Huckorty. Brunson had a great first half. Draws the foul. Everything going in. That’s you worry about those type of plays when you’re running off the court with a step down and he’s been aggressive. He shot the ball well. I mean, the preseason stats in the games are can be very meaningless, but the Knicks did shoot 47%. They have not shot the ball well so far in the preseason, but the ball movement was a big part of that. Knicks had 14 assists. Ston [Applause] poked away by Bridges. [Applause] The nipple stayed with the play and it found its way diabate. [Music] [Applause] Brunson in attack mode. Nice floater again. He took contact there too. Try to draw the foul. He’s got 25 points in 19 minutes again with only two regular starters out there. He’s been aggressive. Cano misses. Dawara lost it. Ston goes right at Brunson who draws the foul and grabs him. Now this is the first time I’ve seen Dawara play in person, man. He’s got a live body. Yes. Yeah, that’s exactly it. You saw it in summer league. He gets up and down the floor. He he loves to run. There’s a lot of like playing under control that he has to certainly learn. But you see Mike Brown right now just just coaching him up, teaching. Every moment there’s an opportunity to teach and the Knicks would love to just see him develop because there’s a lot there to work with. No question. Length. He’s got the stride, man. He can really fly up and down the floor. And you saw it earlier. He went up for a rebound. He looked like he picked it off the roof. Like it just he he length is everything in today’s NBA. Ston hits a pair. Sex good offensive game. 13.6 assists. More zone defense from the Hornets. [Music] Their back up top. Shot clock at eight. Brunson against the rookie. Almost got it caught on his hip. Gets it in the corner. Bridges lets it fly and knocks it down. Bridges also playing extremely well. Brunson bobbled that ball but showed great hands and maintaining possession. 12 points for Bridges. Ston gets inside and Bridges that time fouls. [Music] Second foul for Bridges. So you’re talking about Ston and how he’s he’s happy to be here. when he was with the Cavs, they won 19 games, 19 games, 22 games, and then 44. With the Jazz, 31 games, 17 games. So, he’s only been on a team, this is his eighth year, first seven years, he’s only been on a team that’s over 500 once. Once. Yeah. And remember, he was traded in the Donovan Mitchell deal, right? And so, he left when the Cavs skyrocketed. So, he never really got to see that come to fruition. And he’s now with another rebuilding team. But I do feel that the Hornets, if they stay healthy, are going to be better than people think. I don’t know if they’ll make a playoff, but [Applause] thrown out of bounds. [Applause] Dior says, “My bad.” Ronaldo Ball not playing. This is a big year for him. His sixth year. Brandon Miller also not playing his third year. Two of their three best players along with Bridges. Bridges not starting in the second half. Brunson knocks it away. Knocks it away again, but McNeely stays with it nicely. Ston knocks down another. Ston’s five of six from the field. He’s got 18 points in 17 minutes. He can score. Certainly can. Even in colleges, one year at Alabama, he averaged 19 a game. Every level. [Music] Bridges won’t go. Cody pursues the rebound. He got whacked a couple of times. He’ll be side out. [Applause] Ariel Humphorty last year only played 25 games as a rookie with the Knicks. All there’s a lot of little things you could see that he just needs to learn defensively. They were seeing him pick and roll and they were trying to teach him things just [Applause] nice fake from McBride. Oh, swatted and goes right back out to Dior and McBride’s hurt. McBride is hurt. Brunson misses and rides slow to get up. Landed hard on his left hip. He’s trying to walk it off. [Applause] And watch when he goes hard to the basket here and then has a second thought and the hard land right. That was a heck of a block. [Applause] Pinniple. Did he lose leave his feet? Apparently not. Knocks down the jumper. His second field goal. Fried seems to be running okay now. Football sore tomorrow. Find some room. Mike Brown asked him, “You want to come out? You okay?” He didn’t even look back. He just waved his hand off. Can broken up by Brunson. Good heads up play. Still 13 on the shot clock and just watch on the hip. Another great block from Diabate. Temple inside, uses the left hand. Nice move from the rookie against Bridges and a chance for a three-point play. Bridges. Talk about how younger players always have to come in. They got to get stronger. He already seems to have that base there, which is extremely helpful. Just 20 years old, was from Milwaukee. His mom was apparently a a great player, all-time leading scoreer at Wisconsin Green Bay. His dad played college. His uncle briefly played for the Bucks, was a second round pick in the NBA. Jeff Nord Nor Norg is his uncle’s name. I remember that name very briefly. [Music] And Bridg is able to connect Bridges 14 points. Shooting looks good. And that looked like it might have been above the cylinder. Salon though throws it down. Good foul on the Frenchman. Little defensive confusion there again. Yaveelli unsure what to do in that pick and roll situation. Brunson. Not that time. Ball knocked loose. Picked up by Bridges looking for an opening that throws it away. Well, Mike Brown has talked about both Carl Anthony Towns and Yoselli that they have to learn two different positions as McGilly hits that one at both ends of the floor. Both can play the five and the four. It’s the challenge of his system where if you play the four, you have to know one through four, not just the four spot. That’s the challenge. And he said, so they’re learning one through four and what to do with the five. It’s a lot. And even Town said it’s a challenge, but he’s he’s he’s open to it. The Aviselli now after struggling from three, hit his last two. Hornets making a little comeback. Makes a good early lead. [Applause] in and out. Brunson throws it ahead. Dangerous pass and a bad one. Turnover. Ninth turnover for the Knicks. Ston McNeely. Three-pointer won’t go. Jameson the rebound and a loose ball foul against Yabiselli. pick in the draft, but you know, they had they had real depth and he just didn’t get a lot of minutes and they liked him. He just wasn’t ready to contribute. And he went over to Europe and he got so much better. Had a terrific season for the Sixers last year as Saxon continues his good shooting and the players all love him. He’s got such a likable personality and his nickname in the when he was with Boston is the dancing bear, right? And I think Nick fans will love him once again when the games get real and the physicality gets real and the confrontations get real. He’s the type of guy that’s not afraid to get in the middle of it all. James and we got officials looking at each other and it’s going to go I’m saying double zero. Keon James, second round pick out of Duke, played his first four years of college at T Lane. All of these young Hornets, they got they had nice experience this summer league. The Hornets won the summer league, but this kid was a great defensive player. Mace defensive player of the year. All ACC defense gets his first point of the night. [Music] Porty looking Brunson gets in the paint back in his office. Floater for perfection. 27 points for Jaylen Brunson. Ston draws the foul. No, they’re going to call an offensive foul. using that right arm to wave off [Music] JSON there. Rod right drawing the foul. That was a good call that time. Our officials tonight, Kevin Scott, Fenzy Ransom, and CJ Washington. Brunson sideep. He gave up an open shot. Try to get a better one. Wound up turning it over. I got two. Ston and Clarkson teammates last year in Utah as Clark Brener finishes. Clark Brener is is probably going to get some time at center. [Applause] More substitutions. Simpson and Peterson will check back in. He’s the actor he looks like. I have to see that close. Wedding crashers. Uh Vaughn. Yes. A young a young that’s Vince Vaughn. Yeah, young Vince Vaughn. He can make it work for him. You know he looks like Vince Vaughn. Vince was in Rudy. Did you know Vince Vaugh was in? Yes, absolutely. Shamic can’t get it to go as was Fabro. That’s right. Brunson can’t get that to go. Simpson out of the pack. [Applause] Shamat trying to guard the sevenfooter. Good help. Salon lines that one up. Brunson the long rebound. [Applause] Just over three and a half left here in the third quarter. Clarkson had a good first half. [Music] [Applause] [Music] And Sham took a fall, but he tried to set a screen. They’re going to call it on Landrew Sham. ignited. Kevin Scott going over to discuss it. They have another foul off the ball. Another offensive foul. Hucking Brunson might be done for the night. 26 minutes, 27 points, four assists. Get out the bubble wrap. Well, he showed how sharp and ready to go. [Music] [Applause] Now we’re reaching the portion of the game where it’s time to make a case for yourself. Well, Sharon has has done a solid job out there. Garrison Matthews has not played yet. Patton, talk about a good veteran. Yeah. Smart guy that’s been through a lot. He will really help the young players. Conatan a trade from Milwaukee where he helped them win a championship. Clarkson Huck nice finish. See Clarkson make some nice passes. Certainly not that’s not what he’s known for is Kick has called for a foul. When you think about it, he’s played what 16 minutes or so if you really wanted to keep both. But just to get back to what Shemmet said when he said, you know, no mud, no lotus. It’s a Buddhist phrase. It means no growth comes without some adversity or suffering. And he’s referencing, of course, the injury and what he went through last season. Oh, he’s such a pro. He talks like a coach, Mike, when you talk to him after games. He’s got such an IQ for the game. I I I think he’s going to be a coach unless he’s going to be a sports photographer because that’s another one of his hobbies at the US Open his summer. What are his favorite restaurants? He named like 13 restaurants. Any of your spots? No. All new ones. Ball poked away by Peterson. Still Nick Ball. Seven to shoot with 222 remaining here in this third quarter. Are you going to take me to any of the ones he mentioned? No. Yes, of course. I’m going to hold you to it. [Music] Wally said that and then we ended up at Applebee’s [Applause] in shot won’t go. Kept alive. Simpson comes out of the pack. Can’t get it. Cole the rebound again. Good hustle to get back to contest that Shaman and Bridges there. Bridges back to Kohix. Watch Kohix’s pace with the ball. Never a wasted moment. Bridges bad pass stolen by Conutton. Conetton Sham tries to avoid him and he does a good job avoiding although Conutton didn’t think so. He thought there should have been a whistle. [Applause] Clarkson inside and draws the foul. Sneaky strong Clarkson is when he gets you in the paint, his spin, get up over you. You know that play just down the other end with Shamut was eerily similar to the one that he injured his shoulder on. He reached in on that play last year and that popped his shoulder this time around. Kept the hands down, decided not to reach in. Yep. Nicks have shot poorly from the free throw line tonight. Six of 11 when they were in Abu Dhabi. Professional and I love that that’s a hobby of his to a point where he likes to take sports photography. [Music] James gets it to Simpson. Whoops a pass in the corner. Peterson in and out. Claxon. Good rebound in traffic. Sham one dribble fires and hits the three-pointer, his second three. Good setup for Clarkson for his third assist. As we’re under a minute to go here in the third. Peterson looking. Clark Brener [Applause] and Peterson able to get it to go. [Music] [Applause] Huck hands off. Bridges up top. Clarkson too strong. Peterson had it. Racing up the floor. Hornets. That pass. That pass will not not work. Now we had one prof. He had a grand old time. Well, he all he talked about was the food, which is on brand. Yeah, he did look like he put on a little weight when I just saw him. [Music] Shot clock on your game clock. He volunteered to go back. Kick head down, drives, whips a pass in the corner. Beautiful pass. Clarkson can’t finish it. Co back and banks it in. Stays with a play. It was a beautiful pass that didn’t result in assist and a half court heave. That’s a team figure on Wednesday night. And with Robinson, it’s Kovic has the foul. He you definitely understand it with with the injury history that he has had with the foot surgeries that he’s had in his past and how important he is and we saw it on display in the playoffs defensively especially. You really want to just get him through the season, which has not been a thing for him the last couple of years. Kohler picks up the foul nice and plumbly in his second stint with Charlotte. He used to be a right-handed free throw shooter. It was he was pretty bad at it, so he switched to the left and it’s improved. This is now his 13th year in the league. He’s played for seven different teams, eight stops. didn’t improve on that one, but he’s another good veteran pro and an effective player when he gets minutes. He’s a good player. Bridges double team kind of hoist one up there. Salon the rebound poked away from behind by Bridges. Co nice advanced pass. Bridges gets inside. [Music] Little Keystone Cops sequence to start. Antonio Reeves seeing his first action. Reeves a secondyear player out there for Charlotte. Peniple. Good strong move to the basket. He’s going to play important minutes for them this year. Again, the number four pick overall. Very smart player in college. So that should easily carry over. Clarkson throws it away. What we’re seeing with Clark, I what I like about what I’m seeing in Clarkson all throughout preseason has been, yes, he looks for his shot. Yes, he knows he’s coming here to score, but he is a willing passer. You’re seeing it and he understands the system when he gets into the paint is to look for the spray three. He knows he’s in a different situation. Ball knocked out of bounds. It was the game that the Jazz played here last year when he was with him. He shot the ball every single time he had it. They weren’t all great shots. a screen light yet, but he has talked about, you know, he has to be aggressive, but at the same time knows it’s a different scenario with this with this Nick team calling contacting Saxton. So Saxon will pick up his fourth. Saxon 21 points, nine assists by the way and Kick will shoot two. Now their games are different, right? There is times when you watch Kick the lefty and you see him on moves like that and you know he’s watched a lot of Jaylen Brunson and he’s learned a lot from Jaylen Brunson just osmosis and watching in practice and sitting on the bench during games and big moments how to use his body how to draw fouls. That’s one right there that you could see off two feet. He was talking said I I have to learn how to play off two feet more in the paint. And that was something he spent a lot of time this summer working on. You saw Brunamir talking about Ryan. He’s really helped out Kick. He was saying something that made Matt Ryan laugh there. Shoot that Garrison Matthews. [Music] [Applause] Has a very sneaky subtle sense of humor. Very dry. Ball taken away from Ston. Bridges can’t get it. Kipple advance. Ston is down the other end. Oh, swatted by Bridges. Great hustle just to make the play. It’s still going to be Charlotte ball. Sprinting down the court. It’s one, right? He’s got a lot of it. [Applause] Kipple up top to Ston. Here’s McBride guarding him. McBride took a hard fall early. Good to see he’s still out there. Clearly he’s okay. And Son misses the with the rebound. [Music] [Applause] Calling they give him plenty of room but comes up short and it’s going to be Charlotte ball. Jes sets hard screens man here can develop it into the Knicks like the potential a lot of work. McBride takes it away on the double team finds Bridges and the left-handed flush. Bruce McBride’s defense leads to an easy bucket and that leads and it is a work in progress. [Applause] Plumbley late and there will be there’s going to be some growing pains especially cuz all the starters didn’t get to play together as much as they had hoped and uh nine of the five of course and the easy thing to do is say you just wanted to get off to a 20 and one start like uh like Cleveland did last year again new coach in Cleveland and they got off to a hot start so it can be done. Cohesiveness and chemistry is important. Bridges lines it up. Can’t get it. Duce McBride almost the highlight tip in comes the other way. But Mike Brown will tell you and and Jaylen Brunson has said this too. It’s how you finish. That’s what they’re focused on. [Applause] Nipple nails the three-pointer. He was 0 for six from downtown prior to that. Now has 12 points. Nick lead is one. Colet keeps his dribble alive. Diwara and leans in and draws the contact. Little fake got Salon up in the air. So, two free throws. Love to see him just catch it and just explode right to the rim there. So Mike Brown clearly he wanted this to be a dress rehearsal for the starters and play nearly the amount of minutes they are expected to play in the regular season. So he’s going back to Yabiselli Shamat and Jaylen Brunson. [Applause] He’d been playing in in some form of professional level in France since he was 16. Always think about that at that young age there’s an advantage it’s not easy often playing against people a lot older than you I wasn’t playing in the top leagues back then oh what a block met him at the rim Brunson drives gets inside and gets the roll couple of highlight plays at each end for the Knicks. Back up by five. Ston and Jon call for the foul. He’s kind of jumping off the page, isn’t he, Mike? Yeah, he’s on the two-way deal as McNeely ball out of bounds. Last touch by Jameson. Jameson, he’s played for five different teams and this is his fourth year, but he’s only played in 63 career games. He is also going to be you’ll be able to play him in the G-League as well. McNeely with six on the shot clock. Kicked out of bounds. So they’ll reset the shot clock. I actually kind of like that cuz often it’s not a kick ball. It’s just the pass is so bad that it’s it’s hit off somebody’s foot. [Applause] Shot clock winding down. Brunson on Simpson. Simpson gets inside, throws it up the rim, and a 24-second violation. They didn’t call that. Maybe they thought it grazed the rim. [Music] Brunson finds McBride. McBride finds the bottom of the net. Catch and shoot threes. There’ll be a lot of them. And he’s very good at it. 40% over the last two seasons. Knicks have taken 43-pointers. hit 37%. [Applause] As we approach the midway point here in the fourth, Simpson leans in and gets it a go. KJ Simpson with his second field goal. Simpson a second round pick now in his second year. Didn’t play a lot last year, but did start a bunch of games for Charlotte. Another example where Brunson doesn’t have to bring the ball up the floor when he’s being pressured. Jameson gets the offensive board and it’ll reset the shot clock to 14. [Music] [Applause] McBride’s got to get it off in time. It’s a little bump and gets the whistle. Reeves went for the fake and McBride goes to the line. Bruce McBride, who had a very eventful summer, became a dad, his longtime girlfriend who uh was a swimmer at West Virginia. They had a baby girl and they named the baby Ace. Perfect. And beautiful. I asked him, “How’s his daughter doing before the game?” You talk about somebody lighting up, man. He also wrote a children’s book. Yep. Wrote a children’s book as a player. Sometimes it’s an older vet who rarely plays, but they’ll teach you how to be a pro. They’ll teach you skills, techniques. I mean, perfect example of the latter is like a Taj Gibson. Oh, later in his career, you couldn’t ask for a better guy. Guy like Garrett Temple, who’s been in the league forever, doesn’t play a heck of a lot, but they make such an impact on young teammates. There’s Shamat making an impact. Good dish from Brunson. and Shamat 11 points in 19 minutes in what again could be an extremely important game for him. Offensive foul call on Salon. Circle moment from last year to now again the with Malcolm Brogman retiring. There’s one spot remaining as McBride high arcing three-pointer. One spot remaining. Shamat. It might be hard for the Knicks to keep Shamat and Garrison Matthews. Matthews has not played tonight, but they are very impressed with him. Shamat clearly has. He’s played 20 minutes and has played well. [Applause] Simpson misses. It’s just it again shows you it’s not it’s not so easy sometimes on the NBA circuit. He’s also fit and need right again. And Shamut, what you see is a little bit more length, the grit on defense. Super smart player. Matthews, you you can’t make a wrong decision, right? Both of these players can certainly help you, but the only other thing you can do is how do we open up another roster spot? Yeah, Matthews was fourth in the league in three-point percentage just a couple of years ago. Brunson gets the rebound. Under four to play. Brunson has now played 30 minutes. There’s no question Mike Brown wanted to play all the starters close to their normal minutes. Theelli, not that time. And a loose ball foul is going to go against the Knicks. Believe it’s Jameson. [Music] It’s his pursuit of the basketball though, which I I’ll take a foul like that. Mix now with a 14-point lead on the drive. Offensive foul. Boy, Abiselli took a shot. Points, three rebounds in 19 minutes. [Applause] This is his now fourth year. Last year with Charlotte, he played 71 games. Got a lot of time, started eight games. [Applause] McBride, his night is done. 15 points, four assists for Duce McBride, who they’ve got a good look at both, and both deserve it. It’s all about need, depth, something the Knicks have this year. [Music] Simpson fouls Brunson. I’ll tell you, you know, we just showed Leon Rose there. You talk about somebody that is obsessed with winning a championship. I got to spend a little bit of time with him in the summer and and it’s impossible not to notice it. It’s all he wants to do right now. He knows they’re close. He has done just an extraordinary job of turning this franchise around. in five years. Four on the 24. Clarkson against Salon gets inside. Flo won’t go and Hornets come the other way. You know, and the coaching change was a surprise for many. Top Divido did a magnificent job. Best season in 25 years. And it’s always a risk when you make a change. Mike Brown has had great accomplishments as well in the NBA and they love what they’re getting from him so far. Boy, this is hustle. Sloppy hustle, but hustle. Salon inside. Counted and a foul. Clarkson tried to deny him and Salon with a chance for a three-point play. scored by. [Applause] But I think Mike, when you when you make a dramatic change like that after a successful season, it tell it shows you that this is about taking it to the next level, advancing the cause no matter what. And you can’t let personal feelings get in the way. You see something and you say to yourself, “No, it’s we can do better.” And that was a tough choice, tough decision that was made and they made it. Now Mike Brown takes on the challenge of doing it and walks right into it boldly. He has coached Kobe Bryant. He’s coached LeBron James. He’s coached in LA. He has coached with expectations before. He’s been in Golden State. Speaking of expectations, being around that team as a lead assistant, he knows what it takes. He is. He’s credited Curr with a lot of how he’s changing. We talk about players improving every year. coaches can really improve from year to year. Learn from what they do, right? Learn from their mistakes. Learn from other coaches. [Applause] And also letting your assistants do more. He’s letting his assistants run the timeouts. He said he got that from Kerr as well. Roxson slips inside. What a beautiful shot. Boy, Jaylen Brunson has been brilliant tonight. Granted, just a preseason game, but he looks like all NBA second team Jaylen Brunson. Simpson. Huck changed that shot. Salon picks it up. McNeely kicks it out in the corner. Simpson hesitated. Reeves step back. Good looking shot there. Reeves. Antonio Reeves, [Applause] a Chicago kid who played five years of college, including his final year at Kentucky. You know, a couple of games ago, Mike Brown said they didn’t run a single play in the game, right? The Minnesota preseason game, didn’t run a single play. I’m seeing them calling out plays right now down the stretch. All part of, okay, when we’re in crunch time, we want to run certain plays. We want to have some structure. [Music] But for three quarters, he really does want to let them just have the the concepts of what to do, but not necessarily be locked into plays. No, one of the things he wants to do is increase the pace. Last year, the Knicks were 26th in the NBA in pace. We’ve seen it at times, but it’s not there consistently yet. Clarkson forced that one up. Ball knocked out of bounds. He thought he got hit. Clarkson with solid game, 13 points, three assists. He got the start tonight with three of the starters out. [Applause] McNeely gets to the rim. Nearly in double figures. Ball turned over. some pressure here. Full court. [Applause] Well, the good thing is there’s 31 seconds left in preseason. The real stuff starts on Wednesday. Can’t wait. Well, actually, Tuesday is the first night for the Knicks Wednesday. Reeves misses. We’ll have Knicks and Cavs here on MSG as the floaters up and in from Reeves. [Applause]
