Latest Tari & KD extension rumors

  1. He’s surely not a max guy but if we lose tari because we don’t want to give him 5 years 120 I will be distraught.

Trust in Stone though, if anyone can make a player happy with a team friendly deal it’s him.

Not sure if Tari is the kind of guy who will go for it but maybe a cheaper contract that ramps up significantly with incentives.

  2. Expecting KD to take a $42 million paycut is wild. Unreal billionaire trying to get welfare from millionaires.

His max is $122 million over 2 years. And they want to pay him $80 million over 2 years. An absolute joke they are low balling an absolute legend that averaged 27 PPG on 64% TS. Only Jokic matched that scoring production last year.

For context Fred made $42 million last year. And they want KD to take less than that. Embarrassing

  3. Look. Tari may very well wind up coming out as the better player over Bari. But, relatively speaking, he’s barely seen the floor. You can’t expect equal or greater payout when you’ve missed an entire season’s worth of games over 3 seasons vs 25 missed games over the same time span. Add to that, Bari’s injuries were things that we know for a fact will heal and likely not be a lingering issue, whereas Tari’s are *still* a giant mystery to the general public, what exactly went wrong that had him out as long as he did (and still lingering as the rumors of him having to sit out back to backs this year).

You just can’t expect an organization to bet big with that uncertainty.

Maybe Stone structures a throw-a-bone contract that pays well and has us revisiting at a season or two later to provide better time to assess his “worth”, then he gets the bag.

But pretty much everyone has settled on a deal below their potential for the sake of the team and winning. Even those who didn’t (FVV) wound up ultimately taking a generous pay cut.

I really hope this doesn’t become a point of contention that hurts the team’s synergy

  4. Taris impact is undeniable but the questions around

    1. Longevity as he apparently still can’t play b2b

    2. Can you extrapolate that same impact when longer minutes or playoff situations arise

For these reasons I’m not giving him anything close to Jabari

  5. Kudos to the FO, Tari has a lot to prove before getting the contract he wants. Also KD isn’t taking 40 million a year either so the FO has to be tactical on who they can give money to. Also I still hate the Capela deal

  6. I unironically think Tari might be the most valuable player we have. He isn’t the best in terms of if be could be the best player on a championship team like Sengun possibly could

But in terms of which player has the skillset that is most likely to contribute to a championship team I think it’s probably Tari. Like every single team in the league is looking for a player like Tari and would instantly get minutes in their rotation. He is like this generations Andre Iguadala

People don’t give him credit but he is just as good of a defender as Amen is (and can shoot better) he might not have the potential ceiling of Amen but right now they are very similar in terms of impact.

  7. If we have to let anyone in the core rotation go I’d choose tari any day that said I’d definitely rather keep him

  8. We simply aren’t going to be able to fit him and KD into the approx 70 mill we have left under the second apron for next season. Sign them anyway, exceed it. We’ll just have to dump a contract next offseason.

  9. Keeping KD for the next 2 seasons would be crucial. A 7 foot walking bucket is hard to replace.

  10. This makes my outlook of getting them both signed about 5% better than it was.

we all knew KD deal is just waiting on Tari. the fact that he’s “hoping for $20m” is a good thing, especially when NBA got stinky players like Kuminga wanting $30m. If we get him at $14-17m aav and give KD the rest of the cap then we’re in a really good spot moving forward.
