HUGE CANUCKS, DEVILS & SABRES TRADE UPDATE: ALEX TUCH TO VANCOUVER, TAGE THOMPSON TO NEW JERSEY?
[Music] Oh boy. This is absolutely not the Buffalo Sabers video that y’all thought you’d be getting at this point. But I wanted to go out there and give some props because earlier today, guess what? The Buffalo Sabres, Raasmus, Dalene, Brad Marshian, they went out there and had themselves a pretty big slobber knocker of a hockey game where in the Buffalo Sabres shut out the reigning twotime defending Stanley Cup champions, Florida. What a game for the Buffalo Sabres getting goals from Josh Don and Owen Power. Yeah, that’s it. Josh Don scored twice, so pretty nice to see there. Brad Marshian also had some pretty heated moments with Raasmus Dalene. But we’re not going to get into the game itself. This isn’t a game review. Instead, we’re going to use this happy day where the Buffalo Sabres won a stellar game against Florida to talk about whom it is the Sabres could trade away. Oh boy, this is where things get interesting, people. So, the Vancouver Conucks, we’re going to be talking about them. We’re also going to be talking about the New Jersey Devils. And the Devils, by the way, they are in their own hockey game at the moment. They’re playing off against the Edmonton Oilers. And at the time of recording this audio, they’re winning two to one in the third. So, who knows what’s going to happen there. You know, knock on wood, nothing distracting happens with New Jersey coughing up a win or coughing up a lead. Yeah, we’ll see what happens. But today, we’re diving into the latest with the Buffalo Sabres and what some NHL insiders are saying their trade market could be looking like. Let’s head over to NHL Rumor Reports Twitter account and read some of the latest updates from earlier this morning. This is what the Fourth Period’s David Penota went out there and spoke about on Jeff Merrick’s The Sheet podcast earlier yesterday in regards to Alex Tuck. Tuck and the Sabres have put talks on hold, mainly because of what’s going on with the start of their season. Reading the tea leaves, it’s going to cost a pretty penny to stay in Buffalo. Now, what exactly does David Pota refer to? Well, he’s talking about the start of the season going so horribly wrong for the Buffalo Sabres. How this team just cannot seem to put things together and get the right results. And I know it’s funny to say that when they ended up winning a really nice game today against Florida. So again, big shout out over the Sabres for today’s hockey festivities, but it does seem like based off of the way the year has started out, it’s put contract negotiations with one Alex Tuck on pause. It’s not going to be easy to keep the guy around for a reasonable cap hit. And David Penota expands on that later on in the Sheets episode, saying this. I’ve talked to a few teams that think it’s not just a $10 million AAV that it costs for him to stay. You’re probably looking at north of 11, maybe closer to 12. And that does not sound real when you think about just the numbers and how much other guys have costed. Kyle Connor is a consistent 90point guy in Winnipeg. He scored 40 goals, a bunch, and that guy got 12. Alex Tuck. I know we’ve been raving and talking all this talk about how good he is, but he’s only eclipsed 70 points once in his career. Now granted, that was an near 80 point season. He would have had 80 points had he played the full season, but Alex Tuck is not in the same territory that Kyle Connor is in. Is the difference in contract value just a few hundred,000? like is the difference in skill between Tuck and Connor so small that you can give Tuck like 115 and that’s reasonable. I don’t know. I wouldn’t agree with that, but I don’t know. You can let me know your thoughts in the comment section below. This is where we dive into the latest with Tuck and what Bob Stoer went out there and spoke about. He said there’s a Vancouver connection in regards to Alex Tuck. And this was also replied to by a bunch of folks. Alex Tuck’s wife is from Vancouver, which we did talk about already in a prior video, but that was more just kind of spitting off the dome here. But now I guess folks that are analyzing the NHL and get paid to do so are talking about it on podcast. So nice, right? Vancouver could potentially get themselves involved here if the Buffalo Sabres don’t feel like they can actually resign this guy. Now, there have been talks about the Sabers going through yet another fire sale like they always happen to do every few years. So, is that a possibility that they start to think about trading away a hometown golden boy who has expressed endlessly his joy to be a Buffalo Saber to head over to his hometown team and be a leader, be a leadership figure in that locker room? It’s going to cost a lot of course and who knows if the Vancouver Conucks even go out there and keep the guy beyond the contract that he’s on right now. But hey, he’s going to get himself a pretty sizable raise when you think about how much the cap is going up and how much Tuck can improve on that 4.75 million AEV that he has. Yeah, he was a 79 point player getting 4.75 million bucks a year. That’s quite ridiculous. If there’s any time for the 29year-old to get himself a pretty big raise for his services, it’s now. So, is Vancouver willing to shell out those assets to get him in the first place and then commit the money to him? Who really knows? But shifting gears in regards to Buffalo, let’s talk about the New Jersey Devils, who at the time of recording this audio are still up 2 to1 against the Edmonton Oilers, and dive into an article posted by Zack Burman yesterday on New Jersey Hockey. Now, targeting Tage Thompson, why the Buffalo Saber superstar could be the Devil’s Big Fish. Ah, I get it. New Jersey beat writers have taken a break from talking about Quinn Hughes over to the Devils and started talking about Thompson, too. The article goes out there and talks about how Elliot Freriedman on 32 thoughts earlier this week said that we basically know that two of their franchise players, Darlene and Thompson, have indicated that it has to get better this year. The Sabres don’t have a long runway for this. With Buffalo having their bad start, the question is proposed here by the articles writer, Zach Burman. It says that Ta Thompson could be the piece that pushes the Devils over the top. Should it become available, Tom Fitzgerald should go all in to bring him to New Jersey. To be clear, if Buffalo has any control over the situation, trading their best forward, especially one locked in at a friendly 714 million cap hit through 2030 would make little sense. But with the Sabres mired in a playoff drought stretching back to 2011 and showing little signs of progress, a nightmare scenario could unfold in Western New York. Thompson asking out as soon as this season. I don’t think the Devils or the Devils front office would need much, if any, convincing that Ta Thompson would be a dream fit in New Jersey. He brings a rare combination of size, strength, and skill that a few centers in the NHL possess. And let’s be honest, center depth is something the Devils could use. Thompson’s coming off a season where he had scored 44 goals in 76 games. And for a Devils team that already looks strong just four games into the year, but might still be missing that one final piece. Taage could be exactly that. And that’s before even mentioning how team friendly his contract is. If Thompson were to demand a trade, I don’t think there’s a player within the Devil’s organization outside of those with the last names Hughes, Hishier, Broad, or Meyer who should be considered untouchable in a potential deal. He’s that kind of player. The one that you move mountains to acquire. So yeah, is that possible? H I’m not sure. Ta Thompson with the Devils would be such a nice contrast to Jack Hughes and his size and skill because Thompson brings a different element of goal scoring that Jack Hughes doesn’t possess. And he brings like another half foot more and a whole bunch of pounds. I’m not even going to try to think about the idea of New Jersey acquiring Taage Thompson, that behemoth of a man, onto their hockey team already and becoming a force in the Eastern Conference, potentially finally getting over that hump and making the third round, let alone the second round. But if you’re a New Jersey Devils fan tuning into this conversation, do you think Tae Thompson is an appropriate target for you? If you are a Buffalo Sabres fan, please try not to get too ticked off at me and at this video. I know it was a really nice day for y’all winning against Florida in a shutout capacity. I mean, props to y’all. Absolutely. But do you think if your nightmare season continues beyond the win that you had today, is there a chance that Tuck or Tage Thompson become available on the trade market? And what do you think the price is for a team like Vancouver or New Jersey to acquire any of these guys? Devils fans, Canucks fans, what’s the most you’d be willing to pay up in a trade for any of these two assets? And do you think it’s actually reasonable for your squads to go out there and chase them? Tuch is just Jannick Hansen reborn. He’s a 5 million a year player at best, he’s fast with bricks for hands.
I don’t understand these videos… we all complain about fake news. However all it takes is an “insider” saying “oh I think a team might want this player” … then a YouTuber saying let me try this trade idea on you. Suddenly fans watch these videos and talk about how certain players need to be moved. Then they don’t go to the games… the players (who in a lot of cases are KIDS) see the empty stands or posts online or videos talking about how they would do better somewhere else…. And then the guy gets traded cause they’ve spoken to their agents and the agents are just in it for their cut. Then… a video gets made about how stupid the team was for trading him. I’ve got an idea… why don’t we just enjoy sports (like when we were kids. Watch the games, collect the cards, buy the jerseys) and let the players and teams do their own jobs without influencing them or their agents. Nah… I’m just kidding … we’ll never get back to that era ever again.
Shouldn't the canucks go after Tage, i thought we need a centre?
Canucks should try to trade Petey for Bedard
feels like it should be the complete opposite between the two teams lol
I WOULD VANCOUVER COULD BE VERY STRONG WITH ON THE TEAM DEPENDS WHAT THEIR WILLING TO OFFER
Only on a rental trade n release to UFA immediately after
Rumor is the Canucks are scouting players globally looking for guys named Pettersson
Tuch is over paid ands not very good
I could see all 3 teams making a trade. Thompson and a 4th to Vancouver, Pettersson and Mancini to Buffalo. Tuch to NJ, Mercer and a 2nd to Buffalo.
Edit: NJ really needs to find a way out of Palat’s contract.
I am afraid that Tuch’s best years have already been played and he is now on the slippery downslope to his career.
I like the Tage Thompson idea…you could then put Petey on the wing and put his one timer to the best use.
nucks shud go for barz
Canucks should strictly look to rebuild. They can't compete with teams like vegas , edmonton and Dallas when it comes to the playoffs. They got lucky beating Dallas ( Dallas also played the night before).
If they want to compete with the likes of san Jose , Chicago and Anaheim in 5 or 6 years They need to rebuild now. Trade hughes hronek petterson sherwood and any one else and start a full on rebuild. Who cares anymore. This team will be a borderline playoff forever and get middle first rounder picks (if this management group doesn't trade them). Hughes is the only exciting player to watch. Petey is never going to post more then 70 points ever again.
Imagine Tage being the devils 3rd line center. I would sell my children for that, but Fitz ain't that guy. Tage and Tuch are constantly talked about in Devils chat rooms, almost as much as Fitz's broken trigger finger.
2nd you tube guy who posted in 24 hrs on the topic of the Sabres the poor start and these players on the move
…. yes it's "a thing"
This channel is a waste of time
LOL Tuch at 12mil? That's a significant Buffalo tax. Probably applies to Vancouver as well. But they'll have to trade Pettersson to do it. Just means the Canucks won't have to buy out Petey.
If this trade has not happened, please do us fans a favour, and shut down your channel
We don't need Tuch
