LFR19 – Game 6 – DNA – Kraken 4, Maple Leafs 3 (OT)

You know, play the intro and sit down. Oh jeez. Game six, huh? Okay, let’s go. It starts with an A and ends with an exciting off the shelter with you wherever you are. Welcome to Lf. [Applause] Leafs lose 43 in overtime to the Seattle Kraken. And this is a one-taker. It’s a one taker nice and early in the season. And the reason we’re doing this is in the past I’ve been told it’s too early, Steve. The issues with this team is too early. And I talked about how they’re soft or how they’re blowing leads or how they’re not playing tough enough and how they’re not playing the style that they need to win. And then they write the ship in the regular season and people go, “See, what were you complaining about?” This happened a few years ago with the Anaheim Ducks. The Leafs had a 3-1 lead. They blew it. They lost to the Ducks and I lost my mind. It’s one of the most watched videos I’ve done on this channel. Guess what? We’re doing that again and we’re doing it even earlier. Game six. This has nothing to do with the Seattle Kraken as a team. They’re impressive. They’re off to a really impressive start this season. Holy cow. And I mean, you’re going to lose games. This one went to overtime. The Leafs were down. They tied it a couple times. You can look at that as a scrappy point in the standings. Not me and not us. We should all be on board with freaking out about this thing because I was looking at this and we’re looking at the potential storylines before this game started. Are they going to start to talk about the power play and then the Kraken score a power play goal and the Leafs can’t get a power play goal and the Leafs are down in the game. But guess what? They end up getting a power play goal and it’s John Tvaris with his second of the game. Matthews has an assist. Knander has an assist. Riley has a goal. You I’m going somewhere with this. Trust me. Okay. All the guys who the Leafs have been relying on forever for offense are the ones who are there and generating offense. The Kraken, to their credit, they’re getting it from all around the lineup. They’re getting some saves out of Joey Decord. He was incredible at the end of regulation there. Here’s what we can’t have. Cannot have can’t have Seattle. Whatever goal it was, third, doesn’t matter. Brandon Carlo knocks one of the Kraken into Stallars. Now, it’s bad enough that we have no idea. Flip a coin. Oh, it’s whatever the hell. We don’t know how a goalie interference call is ever going to go. If you’re Anthony Stallers in that situation, you’re furious. Pick your reason for why you’re furious, but you’re furious. You’re either furious that the team didn’t have enough faith in you or your expertise or the way you saw it that they didn’t challenge it, or more likely, you’re furious at Brandon Carlo for shoving a person into you and knocking you over. He shoved him into your skates. He shoved him into your body. He knocked you the biggest goalie in the league probably or close to it onto your bum. And the Kraken got a goal as a result. I’m sure you’re not happy about that. What happens after Mr. accidentally on purpose Mason Marchman who falls over at the drop of a hat runs through you like a boulder and what happens? No one does anything, including the guy who just knocked someone into you for a goal. Anthony Stallers was the first person to react. Anthony Stalars, who won you last game singlehanded. Anthony Stallars, who got run into during the playoffs and knocked out with a concussion and nothing happened. They talked during this off season about a DNA change. This is like the conversation with Morgan Riley. Morgan Riley was hard on himself before the season began. Trolling talked about it. Bub talked about it. Riley talked about it. And Riley was the best Leaf on the ice in the first game of the season. Now, he had some bad moments after that. He scored a goal tonight. All right, it’s going to be up and down. But at the end of the day, we’re paying more attention to it because he’s the one who said he wasn’t good enough. So, when he’s not good enough, oh, what do you mean? What’s that performance? You were You’re on yourself. You’re trying to better yourself, right? We’re holding him accountable to the standard that he has set for himself. The Toronto Map Police talked about a DNA change, needing needing to change the DNA of their team, right? You just lost Mitch Barner, the the guy who scored uh he was the fifth leading scorer in the National Hockey League last season. Yeah, no kidding. You got to change your DNA a little bit, losing a player like that and getting Nick Wah in return. the guy who was in the box for the first goal by the Kraken. By the way, everyone’s got to pull their weight. Okay, I don’t know if this was a banner night for anyone. If there was anyone you could look at and be like, well, you know, they pulled up their they they held up their end of the bargain. It’s the same guys who have been scoring forever. It’s the same guys who have been driving the offense forever. And what do they do when the going gets tough? Stallars gets run into and he flips out. He shoves over the net. He says enough. Brandon Carlo, if you’re not going to do anything in that situation, did we save the receipt for Fraser Mitten in a first and can we have it back? 6’5 for what? Jake McCabe looked like why I ought to but he couldn’t figure out how to get into the net. William Knander with his stick hunched over on his legs gliding by like he’s watching ducks in a pond. Disgraceful. Y’all, you know, William Neander’s designed for a market like this cuz nothing bothers him. Maybe something should bother him. Something should bother you guys. Get some blood in your veins. Get a pulse. Is it too much to ask? Oh, we pushed Florida to seven. They pushed Florida to seven. What might have helped you beat them? The starting goal you didn’t stick up for? Who won the last game for you? The starting goalie you didn’t stick up for. Who’s the starting goalie if Anthony Sters gets hurt? Not the goalie that you wouldn’t stick up for. DNA changed my Are you joking? You cannot be serious. This is the same team with different names. And oh, they shouldn’t have got rid of Ryan Reeves, dude. They barely used him. And when he was in the lineup, he didn’t fight. They did this stuff with Ryan Reeves and with Wayne Simmons and with Matt Martin and with Kyle Clifford at some point. Maybe you can’t teach an old dog new tricks. I don’t know what it is. I don’t know how to tell you to care about your NHL career. I don’t know how to tell you to care about your teammates. I don’t know how to tell you about the other great teams, the greatest teams in this league who do the exact opposite of what you do. Why do you think Stallars was the one responding? Because he was the one who got hit. No, he was on the Panthers when they won their first cup and that is exactly the kind of thing that the Panthers would have done while he was there for him. Brandon Carlo, you cut your teeth in the NHL on the Boston Bruins could have fooled me. Oh, I guess you only save that for when you’re playing against the lease, right? You only say that like what are those days gone? Are your best days passed you? What happened? Willie Knander is a big strong guy. He’s a big strong guy. Do something. any of you. It doesn’t matter who it is. It’s not just a 4-3 loss in overtime. It’s not just a 4-3 loss in overtime. If anyone tells you, “Why are you overreacting? It’s just a 4-3 loss in overtime in October.” ignore them forever. on advice from everything, the food they like, the their their beliefs in anything, ignore them. If they tell you how to spell their name, don’t trust it because they’re probably wrong. This isn’t just a 4-3 loss in overtime in October. It is the same thing over and over again. What do you think? Just cuz you got rid of the kid whose dad has more burners than series wins that it was going to change your DNA. What do you think? DNA change happens by default. DNA change happens by giving a this fan base is so sick and tired. I am so sick and tired of caring about this team more than the players on it. Show some courage. Earlier today, Rasmus Dene in the Sabres Panthers game, cross checks Brad Marian. What does Brad Marian do? He abandons the game. Throws off his glove, hits Dene with a barefisted punch, ragdolls him to the ice, and then takes his helmet to the penalty box and destroys it. Because that’s what you do. It’s the NHL. There are no rules. Nothing matters. stand up for yourself for the love of God. And I think it’s all wasted energy because I’ve been doing it for years and we’ve all been doing it for years. And what am I so upset about? They’ve already showed us who they are over and over and over again. This is what the Leafs are until further notice. This is what the Leafs are until they prove that they give a It’s the beginning of the season. This is when you set precedents. This is when you establish an identity. And their identity so far is they’re the same old Leafs. I didn’t even mention the ALCS. Oh, now I’m mad all over again. Now I’m mad for different reasons. The next time someone crashes your goalie, make an example of them. Let the next team who comes into your barn know what happens. This isn’t medieval times, right? Th this isn’t Game of Thrones. You can’t put a head on a spike, but they all watch the highlights. Make them sorry they ever entered the league. That’s what the best teams do and it’s what your team does it.
