20 Years Ago today, the Houston Astros became the first MLB team in the state of Texas to clinch their first-ever Pennant, and clinched their first ever World Series appearance in Franchise History.

  1. And Roy Oswalt got himself a tractor!

I remember how good this win felt after the Pujols HR in game 5. Everyone thought we were cooked and then Oswalt tossed a gem in STL.

  2. Yes… and then Selig decided to meddle in it by breaking their spirits forcing the roof open.

They wasn’t as egregious though as in ‘08 forcing Houston to play a “home game” in Milwaukee – 90 miles from the opponent and in the stadium we were fighting for the wild card in AND he owned stock in.

I don’t like Manfred, but the only thing I’ll say about him is he isn’t a hypocrite and let Houston keep their title. Selig likely would’ve stripped us, then followed Manfred and pulled some BS to allow Boston to keep their title.

I was VERY HAPPY Houston won, but it still rankles me the BS Selig did to Houston.

  3. Last game at the old Busch stadium, suck it St Louis. I hated that Cardinals team so much.
