Good.
Keep giving these kids big money over a little lego hype and this is what you get.
I mean it’s a shame but they were 6-1 down with no time left. Sometimes you just have to accept you’ve lost, save your energy, not risk an injury and live to fight another day.
5 fucking years for him though
can we go to the fun side now?
I mean at this point, send him down. No one is going to claim him from waivers… his value is negative and salary is not good; same with Miro. Conroy’s FA signings have been questionable at best – granted, they are not meant to be world beaters, but have some compete, and play hard enough to earn their millions of fan donated dollars.
He nailed it. I’d rather see Lombo or Klapka out there giving a shit. They’re getting as many goals as Sharangovich is anyway.
Hopefully somebody in the organization does the same. It’s not Bieksas job to get these guys going.
Agree with Bieksa that he needs to show more effort. Fuck, the whole team does. What an absolutely terrible game as a team. Lomberg and Klapka are the only ones who look like they give a shit. This is the worst I’ve seen this team play in a while, and something needs to change. They just look hopeless.
I also agree with people here that it’s a 6-1 game with 4 minutes left. People calling for a 30 goal scorer to be waived need to understand that this is a whole team issue. We’re going to come off watching *that game* and single out one player? Come on guys.
The whole team needs to show more effort. I don’t give a shit if they lose; this team isn’t supposed to be truly competitive. I give a shit if they give a shit. We don’t need to start dismantling the team because they’re playing like this, they just need to play better.
I don’t know what’s missing, but some degree of passion is desperately needed to make this team watchable. From the *whole team*.
I love Sharkey as a human. He’s funny, seems like a genuinely great guy that his teammates like, is good with the media, etc.
But he is a bug puppy with no dog in him. I dunno how fair it is to single him out though – last night there were plenty of passengers that showed no desire or heart like we are used to seeing with this group. I think players like Sharangovich respond to the moment based off of what the team’s leaders and best are giving you. They definitely follow the lead and don’t set the tone.
“compete” in the NHL is often synonymous with physicality, which, considering the dirt bag of a player Bieksa was completely aligns here. at the end of the day, if anyone here is going to measure Sharongovich’s input to this team based off hits, then you’re completely delusional.
What Bieksa SHOULD be highlighting is Sharons lack of hustle to tie up Stone earlier in the game. His two way game used to be lauded, but now unfortunately even that is something he’s struggling with. I’m not sure what the fix is, but quit choosing inappropriate ways to evaluate players. We’re hating on him for not hitting a guy at the end of a 6-1 game? Should we also get the pitchforks out for Lomberg for not having a goal?
This what happens when people get contracts for being “good guys” instead of good players.
We did not need to extend Sharky.
We did not need to extend Backlund.
We did not need to extend Ryan Huska.
Where’s the captain? Backlund is a great guy, but he’s not a captain.
Good line, I hate to lose more then I like to win
Fun fact.. his nickname is Sharky because Marc Savard thought that he needed some more bite to his game so they started calling him this.
He’s as soft as puppy poo. This isn’t news. There’s a reason he fell off the depth chart in new jersey
This has always been the knock on him. So much skill and has the tools but he never puts in the effort game in and game out. I expect in 1-3 years he will be in the KHL
This is the “Michael Backlund” effect.
He’s not wrong.
All I can focus on is Geddy Lee’s nose in the background
I wouldn’t stop there tbf.
It sucks because he has such a lethal shot. Would just love to see him use it more and try a little harder to get into position to use it
This is coaching, and this is leadership within the room. Huska was always Sutter-Lite, and has always been a stop-gap option. The guys that played well were the first line. It is on Backlund and the leadership group to get these guys playing hard, ajd it’s on Huska to get that leadership group – and the team – to buy in. But his “play hard, play physical every night” brand has a shelf life.
The best thing for the Flames is to bottom out and have ownership and management actually see what this team is. They are a lottery team that was nearly dragged to the playoffs last year by spectacular goaltending – and nothing else. They have arguably the weakest Top 6 in the NHL, and their lackmof elite talent is noticable every single game.
They need to lose. They need to lose for a few years, and they need the top end talent at the draft to build around. McKenna won’t magically fix the Flames, but you need superstars to build around. And those guys change the culture themselves. Make no mistake if the hockey Gods blessed us with McKenna, he would instantly be our best forward and arguably the best player on the team as a rookie. And that’s the problem with the Flames.
So get used to losing, support the boys, and revel in the rise when it comes. But it starts at the draft. So buckle up for a long 4-5 years.
Well that’s cause losers still get to sleep on a pile of money. The way the contracts work literally promote laziness. Keep them hungry! Like you want this money? Come get it then
