Bengals Should Give O-Line MAJOR Boost, HIRE Bill Callahan ‘By Any Means Necessary’

The Bengals have a chance to upgrade their coaching staff in a significant way. Why Zack Taylor and company need to make it happen. And yes, it’s a familiar face. Let’s break it down right now on Cincinnati Bengals Talk [Music] and let’s dive into a big big moment hopefully for the Bengals but certainly for the NFL and what the Titans did on Monday. Moving on from former Bengals offensive coordinator Brian Callahan who spent five years with the Bengals and spent just over a year in Tennessee. He finished with a 4-19 record as head coach of the Titans after five seasons with the Bengals as their offensive coordinator. Well, this video isn’t necessarily about Brian. And yet, would I be open to Brian returning? Absolutely. And some sort of role. Totally open to that. So, I’ll get that out of the way. But what I think the Bengals should be focused on, and what I certainly hope they’re focused on, is Bill Callahan. The Bengals need to bring in Bill Callahan. He was the Titans offensive line coach moving on after his son was fired. And if it’s a tandem deal, it’s a tandem deal. I don’t care. Get Bel Bill Callahan in Cincinnati. By the way, I think Brian’s a really good coach, but this video is certainly about Bill. Look, this Bengals offensive line needs to improve. This Bengals offensive line has has hit a lull. And it’s a law that I think a lot of people thought when Frank Pollock was fired and they brought in Scott Peters that it was going to fix it. And I don’t necessarily think that’s been the case. Do think they played pretty well in the second half of of Sunday’s game against Green Bay. But overall, it’s been underwhelming. The run blocking has been underwhelming. The overall performance has been underwhelming. The performance of veterans underwhelming. The development hasn’t been there. And so, Bill Callahan, who is now available and is going to draw interest from plenty of teams throughout the league, well, he should be high on the Bengals list of additions. Like, we talk a lot about trades and free agent acquisitions and all of those things, all the transactional moves in the NFL. And I’m known for that, right? Coming up with trade ideas and thoughts and being aggressive. Bill Callahan is a must. He’s a must. He is someone that the Bengals should go after. He’s one of, if not the best offensive line coach on the planet. And you see how Cleveland has played uh over the past what five years or so uh under Bill Callahan. And I believe it was five years. And he left last year from Cleveland to Tennessee when uh Brian got hired by the Titans. Bill makes a ton of sense. And he has ties to Zack Taylor. I’ll get to those ties coming up. But overall, like if you’re frustrated with the offensive line play and the development and the drafting and all of those things, there’s no one better than Bill Callahan. And it’s a proven track record. It’s a track record that has been there, done that. And so if you can land him, well, you better land him. It it’s it’s really that simple to me. And I don’t know exactly how Scott Peters is viewed within the organization. He worked with Bill Callahan in Cleveland and so they have a good relationship and so I think it would be pretty easy for that to work. Not saying fire Scott Peters and bring in Bill Callahan, but you bring in Bill Callahan with some sort of title and then both guys maximize what you can do offensive linewise. That’s what I would do. Maybe you make him the the run game coordinator, the assistant offensive assistant O line, whatever for the rest of this season. But if you can get Bill Callahan to Cincinnati, you do it. And it’s very simple. Your offensive line needs to improve. That’s been the case. That will continue to be the case. Don’t you want to get the most out of Amarius Mims and Dylan Fairchild and Jaylen Rivers? Like young guys that you’re hoping are building blocks, Matt Lee potentially. Don’t you? I do. So that’s why I would totally be on board with Bill Callahan to Cincinnati. He has ties to Zack Taylor. We’ll get to that coming up next. This video is also brought to you by WinWin Athletics. Let’s get into these Zack Taylor ties because I think that this is an important nugget here. one, Zack Taylor seriously considered hiring him and the Bengals seriously considered hiring Bill Callahan after the 2019 season. They tried to hire him in 2019 uh when they first were hired, but the the commanders wouldn’t let him out of his contract. His contract ran out and the Bengals, I think, were open to hiring him, but Jim Turner was still under contract, offensive line coach at the time. This is one of those decisions that nearly cost Zack Taylor his head coaching job. It didn’t, but I feel like it almost did and decided to be loyal, stick with Jim Turner. That didn’t work out. Bill Callahan goes to Cleveland and obviously was really, really good for the Browns for years, but now’s your chance to write that wrong. There’s number one. Two, Zack Taylor played for Bill Callahan at Nebraska. And I I think that’s such a an intriguing storyline because they have a relationship, a bond, that you only get in certain certain scenarios. And Zack Taylor, the quarterback, playing for Bill Callahan, the head coach. Well, now if you can bring him in to fix an offensive line, that has been a problem for the entire Joe Brow era. Now, not all of them, not every single lineman. And I I know that’s an overarching type of thought, but it’s true. There’s a reason we talk about offensive line over and over and over and over and over again. And so the the point of this video is twofold. One, the Bengals have a chance to make a significant change to their coaching staff that would upgrade everything about a certain position group. And however you can get him in the building, you get him in the building. If it means making a tough decision, if it means bringing him on with the idea that he’s going to be the the main offensive line coach next year, I I honestly don’t care. Do it. If it means bringing Brian back in a consulting role and Bill back or or Bill here, fine. Fine. Do it. I’m all for it. Like people look at what happened in Tennessee at 419 and say, “Oh, well Brian was an awful offensive coordinator.” Like that’s just not true. It’s not true at all. He was a very good offensive coordinator where a lot of you when he was here were were begging for him to call plays over Zack, right? And it’s real easy like Tyler Boyd leaves, they move Jamar in the slot more because Tyler Boyd was basically a slot only. And then you could say, “Oh, well Jamar is moving around more. Why didn’t Brian do that?” Well, it’s because of the personnel. And I know that for a fact. Brian when he was here certainly would have moved uh Jamar around more. So I I’m I’m on board with whatever. If you got to bring the Callahan squared back, right? Bring them both back. Fine. And I say back. I know Bill hasn’t been here, but to get Bill, if you got to bring Brian in, fine. If Brian wants to come back and help out, fine. This offense hasn’t scored a a first half touchdown since Joe Burrow threw one to Jamar Chase. Like, this offense needs help. And Bill would be my number one target. Bill is someone the Bengals should be discussing right now and have already reached out to him. I don’t know that that’s the case, but that should be the case. They should have already picked up the phone. They should have said, “All right, hey, Bill, now that you’re available, how do we get you here to Cincinnati? I’ve wanted you here for a long time. How do we do it? We don’t want to insult Scott Peters. If if Brian’s Brian’s more than welcome to come back, too. I’ll call Brian. I’ll reach out to Brian.” Like, that’s that should be the conversation. And I hope it is. I hope it is. And we’re going to have you covered every step of the way. It’s It’s a big week. It’s a very very big week. We’re going to cover that uh as we continue here. And uh we have Enter the Jungle Tuesday night. We’re going to hear from Jamar Chase and Joe Flacco on Tuesday afternoon. Obviously, it’s Steelers week. And honestly, this to me is so obvious. It’s so obvious. Bring in Bill Callahan. Any means necessary. That’s right. By any means necessary. For Andrew Fox Miller, I’m James Rene. Thank you so much for watching and listening. We’ll talk to you soon right here on Cincinnati Bengals Talk. [Music]

  1. Sorry but it’s not the coaching it’s the old ass players they keep wasting money on Karras is washed Orlando Brown is washed and Cody Ford is washed which is stopping the growth of the younger players like Mims and Fairchild and Rivers but everyone wants to blame the Coaching the biggest problem is Zac not draft top first round O-Linemen but let’s keep ignoring that fact and getting more O-Line coaches isn’t going to fix players that get ran over time and time again

  2. Bill callahan is ass his son is ass that's a bad speculation James. Stay far away from any callahan period.
Jon gruden, joe Brady, or Lincoln Riley would make the best fit for the talent we have dont ever mention a callahan again

  3. Would love to see someone like Willie Anderson get a shot to at least be an Offensive assistant at the NFL level. The guy knows ball and knows technique

  4. He will never take this job. Everyone sees that Taylor could potentially be on his way out. Bill just lost a job, he's not going to set himself up for it again in the same year.

  5. Rather than base an offense on what a player or players do best. What dose the offensive do best. Or the defensive. We have yet to see it this season. The confidence swagger and physicality seems to have disappeared. They better find a little swagger Thursday night. James would smoke monkey hair if he thought it would help. He's not afraid to campaign for change. Salute! Who Dey

  6. Currently assembling a black-bag crew, to snatch Callahan put a bag over his head and deliver him to Paycor. Seems like Zac is working with watercolors on the sideline. Thursday night. Can't wait. The Geeser, or medicare bowl. Flacco, Rodgers combined, nearly 40yrs of NFL experience. Both Canton bound. Both having fun with the game at this point, I hope. It's got to be passion. They could be enjoying retirement. Passion. Or they're both nuts, or broke. Or both. This entire adventure, courtesy of A' case, of surgically repaired turf toe. Who's mixing the Kool-aid. Who Dey

  7. Well frankly he didn't seem to be a difference maker with either the Browns or the Jags unless competing for high draft picks is the goal. Everyone says he is great and maybe he is but is it possible that he is over rated? I am just asking. I am currently under the impression that talent over takes coaching on a OL. The better the talent the better the coach.

  8. Lol what even makes a good o line coach? They do all the same drills and stuff the only thing that makes them look good is player talent. Titans o line was ass because their o line is ass! No coach matters in that situation.

  9. Sorry to burst the bubble but for any failing coach on the hot seat they try and save their jobs by hiring the best assistants they can con to come on board. IT NEVER WORKS!. Taylor and his playcalling and offensive system i think contribute to the poor O line play but i am not an expert. (THREE failed O line coaches in 6 years). maybe its not the player totally or the coaches (O line coaches) fault. Taylor is the captain of the ship and he's steered the Bengals onto the reef and there is no salvation by hiring another O line coach. Peters though has been a disaster.

  10. Did you smoke some drugs today?? Bill Callahan is not the best Oline coach in the league..he's a good coach..the problem I see. Is Taylor is so defensive of his scheme and play calling. He's not going to change and it will cause friction. If Taylor gets fired and we can only hope. Then yes bring him in. Until then I don't see how it's going to change anything while Taylor is head coach

  11. Maybe Bill Callahan has had success in the past, but his most recent stop with the Titans showed that he is not the miracle worker some have made him out to be. Just saying, be careful what you wish for, you might just get it (and be sorely disappointed). I don't blame anyone for wanting to give him a shot with their line, though.

  12. if I'm being "realistic", I'm sure the bengals won't do this in the upcoming weeks…………………….but if he's available this upcoming season, they should hire bill callahan AS SOON AS POSSIBLE! I don't care if they win the superbowl this season, they should still do it. it will help them sustain excellence. I don't think it's any coincidence that in the early 2020's, the browns o-line looked good and then it has been bad ever since bill left the browns 2 offseasons ago.

  13. The oline is fine. The scheme is crap. I don't care if you hire an O Line god they aren't fixing this without changing the scheme and playcaller. So if bill can do that then ok.
