Game Highlights: 4-Run 7th Inning Drives Tigers to Wild Card Series Win | 10/2/25
There is nothing in sports more intense pressure packed and exciting than an elimination game. And that’s what both the Detroit Tigers and Cleveland Guardians are facing today. It’s the deciding game of this best of three American League wild card series. The winner goes to Seattle for the A L DS. The loser goes home. Zac heads to the mound to make the start for the Cleveland Guardians starting in the postseason for the very first time. He is ready to go. Both managers will have the bullpen ready to go quickly facing elimination that Stephen P in left chase Delauder his second major league game again in center carry. Carpenter. The DH has moved up one spot in the batting order today. The 12 pitch, he tried to check his swing. They’re wondering it’s a foul ball and the whole David Raley saying it is the fouls gone to a full count with each of the first two hitters this afternoon and Carpenter takes ball four. So a one out walk if you look at the last three weeks, including the playoffs, Detroit in those eight games against Cleveland had an average of 12 strikeouts per game. A strike on the outside for the first strikeout of the afternoon for Sacconi that will bring up Spencer. Toleen had an RB I singled yesterday one for six in the series pitch. Clarkson barking at home plate umpire David Raley Saccone gets through the first. Now the Guardians get ready to face the 29 year old from Burbank California. He’s got a lot of postseason experience. It’s Jack Fleer back for his second stint with the Detroit Tigers 15 losses. He went eight and 15 and the loss total led the American League. He did start game one and had a very good game one start of the World Series in left center and it’s caught by Riley Green. Here’s George Valera socked that home run yesterday again, you’ve got Cleveland featuring three rookies in the lineup, soft ground ball off the end of the bat two Mckinstry at third. He’ll charge, get a rounded throw on the grass to Toleen two up and two down. 30 homers, 85 runs batted in 44 stolen bases, 32 swing and a miss got him with a slider under the bat in a 123 1st for Jack Flaherty and the Tigers no score after an innings. Slade Sacconi got out of the first inning unscathed swing and a miss and another fastball. He struck out three of the first six Tiger hitters that brings up Zack Mckinstry homered against Sls that accounted for one of the two runs. The Tiger scored off of him in July in a 21 Tigers win ground ball fair past the first base bag CJ Kafa makes the play and a 123 inning with just eight pitches. Kyle Manzano leads off no score. Jack Flaherty’s pitch throw a fastball by Manzo, a strong start for Flaherty who’s retired all four Guardians hits two of them with the strikeout. There’s chase Dela in his second major league game, the pitch swung on, smashed into right face. First major league hit for Chase Delauter. The only people nervous in this ballpark are the Delauter family members because Chase may be the most confident and most threat young man that you have ever met. First major league hit comes into his fourth major league plate appearance all in the playoffs. Gabriel A is the hitter swing and a miss. He goes down on the ball, the 32 again swinging in a pop up playable behind first labor to is looking into the sun. The foul territory makes the catch about 20 ft beyond the infield dirt. Naylor pops out in an eight pitch battle. The number nine hitter Parker Meadows who had been their leadoff hitter but the one for eight in this series, he’s been dropped down to the number nine spot. Torres is their leadoff man. He has a base hit hard ground ball single through the right side. Parker Meadows is on with a one out sharp ground ball single and the move pays off so far for Hinch can they put hits together with men on base? That’s been the problem in this series, ground ball right side of the base hit. The second baseman was shifted up the middle. Valera bobbled the ball for a moment that doesn’t impact the play. So Torres has a hit and the Tigers have runners at 1st and 3rd with one out and that might be it right here for Saccone with the left handed batting carpenter coming up, the lefty heron will be from the bullpen. The game of chess begins and ending number three Tigers believe sooner or later, somebody’s going to get them a big hit with a runner in scoring position. They were one for 15, yesterday left 15 men on base the most ever in Tigers history in a playoff game. It was in their 129 playoff game down the line and down the right field line. Meadows has scored torres to third and in the second base goes Carey Carpenter, a misplay by CJ Kafa. At first, the Tigers have a one nothing lead and two in scoring position here in the third. And now the Tigers have a chance for a big inning and only one down in the infield in for wins. Perez pop up right by the mound and it’s caught by Kafa almost collided with jose Ramirez. Here’s Spencer Toolson and now another situation with two guys on in scoring position, got him swinging on the Detroit gets the lead but in the back of the Tigers minds, is it Deja Vu? We can’t get a big hit to break a game open early again. Guardians looking for a spark trailing 10. Only baserunner Dela single in the second. That’s it. George Valera to lead things off against Jack Flaherty, swung on and drilled right field down the line, fair ball up against the wall that goes Valera taking off for second and he’s on the way sliding in safe ahead of the, as we know with Flaherty the second time through the lineup, it’s tough for him and there’s a breaking pitch. He stayed through bringing this excitement back to the Guardians and the faithful and now it’s jose Ramirez who steps in with first base open. Yes, there’s nobody out. Ramirez struck out his first time up and home. Well, that was start on the RB I single from Jose Ramirez. Ramirez coming through with his first run driven into the series for an RB I single. Now you got to pay attention to him on first base too. He’ll take off Flaherty good at inducing ground ball, double plays. He had a staff high 11. Ramirez takes off running. What a strike by Dengler and Ramirez caught stealing. He had 44 swipes in the regular season was thrown out only seven times and with one away, the Guardians are at it again here with a runner at first and chase Delauder coming to the plate. He chops it to second good play by Baez Field of the ball stepped on the bag third to first and the double play ends the inning Carpenter on for the third time walks with one out in the fifth inning. He’ll bring up wins. Perez chopped over the mound near second base, double play with a fine play at second, making the stop stepping on the bag and Then a solid throw two outs bases empty bottom of the fifth AJ Hinch trotting to the mound. That is it for Jack Flaherty. Good job by Flaherty. Kyle Finnigan comes out of the Tigers bullpen and now he’s on the pitch here in the fifth inning with a runner at first. Brian Roch will be the batter. So they keep Roch hitting from the left side. Toson plays behind Kaas and the pitch is hit down to Spencer that ends the inning. Riley Green, the hitter he’s hit it hard a couple of times. Lazy fly. Look out Dela makes the catch. He and Valera almost collided and they hug it out. Dylan Dingler. You talk about a star athlete, the 11 high fly ball left center field deep, juan back looking up Dylan Dingler, Tigers take a 21 lead in the sixth. Dylan Dengler who grew up just down the road and Masselin Ohio as an Indians and Guardian fan, he has given the team for Michigan a 2 to 1 lead his first hit of the series in an zero for 92 to 1. Tigers seventh inning Baez zero for two drives one to deep left field this ball off the top of the 19 ft wall quan with the care quan with the throw pets on a double for Baez. What a series for Baez, he’s hit now in all three games, he has five hits, one for two for Meadows. So you’re trying to bunt this obviously toward Ramirez, you mentioned they only five times in the regular season. They did it twice in a win in game one. Serowski hustled and Parker Meadows runs well and he got there ahead of the throw from Sabres. So it’s runners at the corners and nobody out for Detroit. Hunter Gattis takes over on the mound. He pitches every game in the postseason against the Tigers. The Tigers have faced the Guardians eight games the last two years in the postseason. Hunter Gattis is pitching seven of them at the bottom. Back to the mound. Gattis look the runner back to third. Nice play. He throws Baez so now it’s 2nd and 3rd and 1 out. Not a hard comebacker off the bat of Glaber Torres. They intentionally walk Carey Carpenter and he will pitch to the switch hitter Wentzell Perez hitting number three in the batting order for just the 19th time this season with the bases loaded. The infield still in hit to right. That’s gonna drop for a hit. Baez is scored. Meadows comes to the plate. It’s a two run single for wins. Perez in a four to one tiger lead wins. Perez gets his first hit in the series torque one for nine in the series with the walk. He also reached twice hit by a pitch. He hits it hard down the left field line. Carpenter scores the throw up to third over the head of ramirez. It’s a base hit for Torkelson. His second RB I of this series Detroit is up 5 to 1. They have been waiting for this all. September. Now in October, they’re getting the big hits when it counts. Still only one out. Riley Green has had two good swings today. First pitch base hit into right Perez in the score. Telson will stop at second base. 61 Tigers. Second hit of the day for Riley Green. That’s our booming in the seventh against showing the effects of pitching three straight days. And a team that couldn’t get a base hit with a runner in scoring position for two days is stringing them together. Now, four runs in Tigers up 6 to 1 to pitch and hit him. Came in tight Cleveland’s challenging, saying this ball hit the bat and not Dylan Dingler over Dingler back in there awaiting the 32 pitch from matt and there’s ball four outside instead of the hit by pitch. It’s a walk to Dengler bases are loaded. Now, the Tigers have batted around Zack Mckinstry the ninth at the bat just caught the outside corner straight three Mckinstry out looking second out in the inning and the man that started it off with a double off the top of the 19 ft wall and left Baez swung on, popped him up. Second baseman Brian Rochel back pedals into shallow right to retire Baez. Brian Rochel for two. He ignited a five run rally, hard ground ball to base hit if this is the end of the year for Roch finished with a flourish if they have a shot at mounting a comeback here in this game three. It’s got to be now with the top of the order coming up. That’s a, it’s a double for Kwan stopping at third is Rochel and Cleveland’s not done yet. Second hit in the series for Stephen Kwan. Both have been doubles. George Valera to greet Will Vest the right hander who pitched in game one here. Yeah, er, a of just over three and 64 regular season games and he saved 23 strike three called Valera punches out two down. Here’s jose ramirez another MVP type season. Everybody on their feet, the Guardian’s going to come back in this game. Everybody pinning their hopes on this guy swung and grounded to first back in by Toral and fires it trapped by best rolls toward the dugout. Two runs score. Ramirez slides into second head first beats the tag. Jaime Torkelson threw a Bebe over him to V on the run covering at first he couldn’t catch it. Rick has shade off his glove and they challenged this play at second and it would be a huge call, ramirez. He’s out called safe. That’s going to be overturned on a challenge. She, Trevor K, we’ve seen it all here, sean. That’s a huge development. All overturned. So best atoning in part, at least for the error. It’s not over yet. They still believe in Cleveland. This team, it looked like they were dead and buried in early July 15.5 games out. Even with the worst team batting average in franchise history, they managed to come from 15.5 back to make the postseason chopped up the middle for the out. What a nifty play. Oh, my, going across the diamond and here’s Delauter in his second major league game, got his first big league hit in the second, a single to right chopped off the plate fires to first for the out. That was definitely an A put on a by a pitcher and Cleveland’s season is down to a final out last year was the Guardians who took a winner, take all game five in the A L DS. Now it’s Detroit trying to win this deciding game three of the wild card series. Schneeman rolls it down to first to play himself and the Detroit Tigers, the celebration begin and the Tigers who had the most historical collapse of the regular season with Cleveland having the most epic and historical surge in major league history, but it’s Detroit getting some revenge and they win the best of three and the Tigers have moved on to the American League division series defeating Cleveland today 6 to 3.
Jack Flaherty lead the way with a solid start, Dillon Dingler homered and the Tigers surged in the 7th inning to secure the series win and advance to the ALDS.

Hottest team in baseball meets the coldest. Playoffs. you just never know.
The Vest out after the bobbled catch is nice
I can’t believe how one-sided ESPN’s coverage of this game was. I listen to the Detroit feed so I could get some decent play by play coverage, but I still see images of Cleveland this & Cleveland that on the TV. Detroit makes an outrageous stab at a ball to keep from scoring runs and what do they do, show the home run from the day before by Cleveland. Tigers actually rose above that as well as bad umpire, strike, and ball calls and put it away for good.
Javier with two really nice tags today . First on rhe steal attempt. Killed their momentum and then on the error Little things like that win games
It doesn´t get better than THIS : Tigers Hitting Is Super .
I love ❤
That’s Grit Man
Thats the Detroit TIGERS . Looks like the lions of last year , Guardians with B-Team . 1 and out
I think the outing Flaherty had is going unnoticed. It’s the consistency we’ve been wanting all year
All that work for nothing . Cleveland , don´t forget the comeback . I WILL . hahahahahahahaha ADIOS . WOT = Waste Of Time .
Way To Go Tigers!!!! 🐯👏👏👏👏👏👏👏🎆👍
No one can put the tag on better than Javy Baez.
The announcers were clearly biased towards Cleveland and it was so impossible to watch
Yahooo 😅😅😅😅😅😅
What is a Guardian?
Wenceel "RISP' Perez. Let's go boys!
After theTigers game I ate and watched The Red Wings win as well. This is great time of year for a Championship games in Detroit this year. Go Tigers and Red Wings!
Not scoring with a man on 3rd and less than 2 outs is going to kill them going forward
Thx u Detroit! Don't stop now. Restore the roar. Eye of the 🐅 baby. 😊😊😊😊
Detroit is lucky they won. Truth
Go Tigers!
"Cleveland vs the world".. 😂🤣😂 Man, come up with your own shit. It's Detroit vs EVERYBODY.
My God anyone notice the Bias to the Cleveland Indians on the sports cast? You would think Chase DeLauter is the second coming of Bryce Harper.. I was waiting for a Patrick Mahomes reference. Anyways way to go Tigers! Javi Baez MVP of this series!
The announcers sounded so sad every time Cleveland got out, I thought they were gonna cry at the end. DvE. Love that view of Kahnle jumping out of the dugout at the end 😀
It’s gonna be crazy Tuesday and Wednesday in Detroit
Can we bench Kahnle? He has been terrible.
i miss Cleveland Indian
Go Tigers 🐯
Best Comeback Ever! Go Tigers! ⚾️🐅⚾️
I still can't believe we beat Cleveland. I just hope they can keep the fire going and do this again in Seattle. They clobbered us last time but then so did Cleveland and look how that turned out. Go Tigers!
That second base umpire calling Ramirez safe is astonishing he was out by 2 ft tired of these hometown umps
Though, I'm not a Tigers, nor Guardians fan, I just like to watch all the MLB teams highlights, but, I will admit…the Guardians have a Good team, but the Tigers surpassed them this year.
A set back always sets the stage for a great comeback… make history Tigers!!
Ahhhh, gotta love sending Cleveland back to ohio……
Tommy waving goodbye to the fans lmfao
I was in the navy the last time the tigers won the world series in 84'. Stationed in san diego!! I think the Padres only won 1 game if I can remember. What a great time that was.😊
