Detroit Red Wings vs Edmonton Oilers POST GAME SHOW | Woodward Wings
Is that an octopus in your pants or are you just happy to see me? See what I did there? Go Red Wings from Octtopi Experts Woodward Sports. First place. First place. First place. We’re soiled. Come on. The boys are absolutely dialed. Welcome. Welcome to Woodward Wings, people. Postgame show. We just took down the reigning Stanley Cup runner-ups. We already got the Stanley Cup champs. We already got Tampa. We already got Toronto. We’re just putting the souls in the bag. Come on, man. Red Wigs hockey, we are so back. Oh my god. Absolutely back. All four goals coming from that first line, which is looking like Justin, I know we’re five games in or six games in. Looking like the best line in hockey, not in Vegas. like the these guys are just absolutely playing out of their mind. Larkin with two goals. EMTT Finny gets his first goal of his career and then gets the empty netter at the end. So, four goals combined from that first line, man. Lucas Raymond back in this one. Patrick Kane, who I just found out, my brother’s girlfriend went to high school with Patrick Kane. That’s really cool. What? That’s Yeah, I know. He texted us like, “Yeah, I I went to high school with a guy named Patrick who plays for the Red Wings.” I was like, like Patrick Kane, like the the greatest American hockey player of all time. She’s like, “Yeah.” I was like, “Wow, that’s sweet.” But Red Wings take care of business. That first line looks insane. EMTT Finny, he does so much dirty work. You saw on Larkin’s second goal, him just mucking it up in front of the net. His first goal, he’s up there. He pounces on the rebound right away and buries it in the back of the net. Dude, the Red Wings Young Bloodoods are looking amazing. Dude, they they really are. And that first line like they like and Raymond, you could tell he was playing hurt today. Like he was off. He was trying not to get into board battles. He was really trying like he was a lot of times going into puck battles only with one hand on his stick. And like I’ve played through a separated shoulder before. That’s the type of stuff you do when you are dealing with a shoulder injury. So he’s definitely not at 100%. But for still him to make an impact on this game, that speaks volumes. This line isn’t even at 100% yet. Edit Finny is just starting to get comfortable in the NHL and then you have a Lucas Raymond who’s going to come back when he is healthy and start putting up big numbers. Like that is what we’re looking at Spencer and I’m with you. I don’t want to overreact this early in into the season but they look so good. They’re doing everything the right way and so is the rest of the team as well. Not just the that first line. Everyone is doing doing it right. with that first line to actually have a third pairing. We now have a third a third guy on that first line. We have a guy. His name’s Emma Finny. And my new thing is Finn’s up for Penny. Come on. Finn’s up, dude. I mean, it’s awesome. Like you said, now with Lucas Raymond hopefully coming back, hopefully being healthy very soon, you’re going to see the full strength of that first line out there. EMTT Finny is here and he’s ready and he’s now got what, like six points, seven points on the season already. So, shout out to him. Uh, man, it’s just beautiful to see Dylan Larkin playing at this level. He is, he is truly playing like a one seed. He is truly playing like the captain that’s going to lead this team, like a playoff captain. And obviously, this is a very long season. He’s got to keep it up for the entirety of the season. But we’re talking about what we’re seeing right now. And what we’re seeing right now is Dylan Larkin playing like a true 1C on a team that is in first place in the Eastern Conference. No. Yeah, he is. And in this game, I mean, two goals, two assists, four points, hit the post. Could have had a Hattie as well. Also, shout out that guy with the premature bus throwing the hat. Uh, his saying was it was already the literally the puck gets the post the hat is already on the ice. My guy was ready for it. Hey, I love it. I love it. Red Wings fans, like this is the best the first line for the Red Wings has looked in 10 years. No doubt. And you’re seeing it because of a guy like EMTT Finny who is coming in there being a reliable third option for them. being a guy who’s gonna get nasty and ugly in front of the net and use his body, use his positioning, jump to rebounds, allow Dylan Larkin and Lucas Raymond to truly playmake and it’s Dude, it’s awesome. It’s so awesome. They look so good. They They do look so good. And without Patrick Kane today and without hurt Lucas Raymond, this team still finds a way to honestly for most parts of the game, they controlled all three zones. Like this is becoming a habit for this this Red Wings team, the ability to be able to control the zones. They keep guys out of the middle to block shots. Like I you I can’t speak enough to this team’s ability to block shots and helping out John Gibson in front of them. And then also the for check, the forche is beautiful. Oh my lord. Giving them no time to think. They absolutely squeeze the life out of them. And like they are doing what good teams do and they’re doing like their forche right now is honestly in mid-season form in comparison to every single team that we’ve played. They look so much better in the infrastructure of the game. And that’s why I I’m starting to truly believe in this team at like an astronomical level. And that’s because of the kids. That is strictly because of the kids. And obviously JVR and Appleton have done a great job adding some some like solidarity to the bottom of that lineup. But when you have the kids out there forchecking the way they are, EMTT Finny, MBN, Marco Casper, like they are putting so much pressure on opposing offenses and even opposing defenses to set up those plays behind the net. You got guys screaming at you. Like you saw really in the third period when the Oilers were making their push after the dryidal goal, the offense they started humming a little bit and the Oilers started and what happened? What happened? Our guy Jeff or Jeff Blash. Jesus Todd Mlen put out that second line with Casper, Kane, and MBN. The three rattiest players on your team or Casper Debrink and MBN, excuse me, the three rattiest players on your team. and they were out there forchecking their ass off and the Oilers couldn’t get the puck out of their own zone for like 30 seconds. We didn’t really get many offensive looks or even opportunities out of it, but they just had the Oilers struggling to get the puck out of their zone and then you put Finny right back on the ice and he’s doing the same thing and the rest is history. So, shout out to those guys playing well, playing aggressive, winning puck battles, and just making sure that the opposing offense or defense or whoever is setting up the offense for the other team can’t just sit there and do whatever they want. They have to make decisions and they have to make them fast because you’ve got kids flying up and down the ice looking for the puck and and they’re not leading just speedwise. It’s the physicality like like all the young guys are your physical presences and that is what’s so great. The NBA was throwing bodies like no other today. He got got too. He got like he got got big time. He got put on his ass. But that’s gonna happen. Get back up and go do it to go hit him. Go hit him back. Exactly. And dude, this team has so much grit. Everything that we’ve been pining for over this last year of doing this pod and and talking about what this team needs. Every step that we have talked about, they are making right now. And and we we we did this before the season. We were like, “All right, what is the the optimistic side of us that that is going to predict that this team is going to make the playoffs?” Like, “What’s the path?” Like, like, “Let’s talk about a realistic path.” And and what we talked about was everyone has to take steps and the go Gibson has to return to form. Talbet has to be a great spot starter. And all of that is happening. Every single thing. The third pairing is great. Fantastic game. Yes. Another fantastic game by Gibson. Another fantastic game by Johansson and JBD. They look so good back there. They are so comfortable. They perfectly complement each other as a pairing. It is It is so beautiful to see. And then Edson and Cider are are literally ridiculous. They are so good. And they’ll probably never get the true hype that they deserve because of the fact that they’re defensive defenseman in a in a league now that that favors offensive defense. Dinosaurs. Relics of a forgotten past. Yes, they are. But most Cider and Simon Edmonson literally lock it down. Anytime a puck’s in front of the net, it gets cleared. Every time a skater tries to cut to the middle, they’re bodied or or or puck um stick by Edmonson or Cider. It is like they are are so good. And and let me hit the super chat real quick. Yeah, I was going to say before we start gushing, we got to get 999 super chat. Dylan Lin backing his trade deadline comments with his absurdly high level of play and this team is feeding off of it. Absolutely. When your captain is buzzing, your whole team is buzzing. That’s just the nature of the game. And this Red Wings team is going at all cylinders behind their captain’s leadership. Four-point night for him. And he is absurd right now. I believe he has 10 points on the season so far. That’s what you do when you call out your GM. And and we’re going to look back at it and it’s going to be the turning point of this team. We’re going to look back at that if this team makes the playoffs and we’re going to look back at that moment last year where Lone Lin made those comments hoping for that boost and then we get the boost this year at the deadline because I we’re getting to a point where this team got a buyer is going to buy. This team is actually gonna buy buying from subtraction like you say it could be moving around a Copper and a Burgin and then you open it up for guys like Danielson. But you I I think you need to buy and solidify that top four defense. If you do that, if you do that, if you if you buy and solidify that top four defense, we’re talking about winning playoff series. We’re not just talking about making Absolutely. And this team, you talked about uh Bernard Docker and I want to get into Edmonson and Mosider as well in a second, but JBD after what we saw out of Hommonic in that first game, you knew that couldn’t continue. And JBD has come on there and he has settled that third pairing and he’s got Eljo playing well again. And we saw on EMTT Finn’s goal, it was a shot from the point from Bernard Docker that hits the blocker. Boom. Big rebound. Finny bangs it in like he is a veteran. He knows what he’s doing. He’s not going to make stupid mistakes. He’s not going to be out of position. You got a good veteran. Now, this isn’t a Jeff Petri Justin Hall veteran. Like, no, this is a guy that is actually going to make the right plays and be in the right position. So, shout out to uh to Bernard Docker for really solidifying that third D pairing. And I saw that. Shout out to DHL in the chat. He says, “Oilers fan here. Good game yet. I’m so effing embarrassed on this road run. Yeah. Uh you guys don’t got too much to worry about though. You got two of the top five players in the league. You’ll be fine. Uh hopefully. Uh and you guys are you guys had a complete infrastructure change in your roster. All your you got a lot of new like like you Maz new goalie though cuz Yeah. Hey, DHL. We’re glad to have you here and I’m sorry that you’re being used as this targeted um However, John Gibson, you wish you had him. You should have traded for him because now he’s ours and we’re taking him to the playoffs, baby. Yeah. If if John Gibson stays healthy, that will be one of the biggest factors of us getting into the playoffs. Another thing that I wanted to talk about is you look not this next this glass comment. Yeah, they know our feelings about that. They know on the bottom six. I mean, it’s probably not going to happen this year, but if he does resign for next year and then you can have like a guy like MBN or Maser possibly in that top six free Kane on that third line, but forget about it. Butch Mania and B. Well, I’ll believe it when I see it. But I know you will. I saw a couple plays like I know I could come out here and gush about Simon Evansson after every single game the Red Wings play because that’s how good he has been performing so far in this season. There was one play I believe it was in the third period. I forget who. I think it was Ras Muen tried to pass one back door and it just got intercepted and it was a breakaway and wide open down the ice. I don’t know who had the puck on their stick. Uh but I was like, “Oh, they’re going to get a shot on.” No. Edmonson’s reach and his giant stick comes around, boom, knocks it right off, pushes the puck to the corner. He didn’t even get a shot off on a oneon-o breakaway because of the length and size of Simon Edmonson. And like that stuff you can’t teach how long and how physical Simon Evansson and Moider are when you’re talking about breakaways or open ice puck management. They get the sticks in. They get their big bodies into you. Like they are so good at knocking people off their spot or making up for a lapse from someone else. Like you have a Rasmusen turnover or you have a different like the brinket had a bad turnover in this one. Those guys make up for that. They clean up for that. Having that much solid defense on the back end, you can play aggressive and you can look for those threaded needle passes because if you result in a turnover, you know, you got the back end locked down with one of those two big goons out there. Yeah. And you what you can’t teach as well is how good of a skaters that they are. And that’s not talked about enough because at their size to be as good of a skater as as Edmonson and Cider both are, they’re so smooth. They don’t allow faster guys to get around them because they’re great at taking angles. Like there’s literally so many things to like about their games and they continue to elevate them. They are truly both, not just one, both taking the steps that we were hoping that they would to be solidify themselves as two of the best defensive defenseman in the NHL. Now we got to flip to Edmonson’s partner because I I’m I’m I’m done. I’m done cooing the hype train. I’m the the the it is it is all the way gone off the tracks. Like if we’re talking Amtrak, we’re halfway across the country. We’re in Colorado by now from Detroit because I’m done holding back on how good I think ASB is. Because I can’t lie, Spencer’s always told me, Justin, he’s a prospect. Do not get too far. I know you think that he is generational, but he’s not a prospect anymore. He’s not a prospect anymore. He’s come here. And even me, and I’ll say, I’ll even admit it, he has surprised me with how good defensively he is. This is not something that was a norm for him when he was playing in the SHL or when he played in World Juniors. He was a solid defender, but he is been so good defensively, the angles he takes, the poke, and he is stronger than anyone could have expected. He really worked on himself this off season to become ready to take this jump into being an NHL player and now he is showing you every single game he gets more and more comfortable with the puck. Today he rung iron. He almost absolutely sniped snip Skinner. That is what he is building into. He is going to be like Cole Hudson adjacent but better defensively. Yes. Like I I am so excited to see him continue to grow, especially if Edmonson is going to be his partner forever. They will be so electric because ASP will be able to fully grow into the offensive demon that he is with Edmonson. Also, he has a lot of offensive ability. That one-time combo, giving ASP those one TE’s, oh my god, from point to point, it is going to be masterful. And I cannot hold it back any longer. ASP will be generational. I I I am so ready for it. I am so happy that he is here and I know now that we do have we have solidified jersey pretty soon. I was going to wait until he scored his first goal, but he already did. So, come on. Let’s go. I’m so excited for for my for the ASP jersey. But ASP could I don’t think he could have been playing better hockey as a rookie right now. No, no, you you can’t ask for anything more because we see the signs of the offense there. Like, he isn’t as awesome offensively as we hope yet, but that’s a given. You know, the signs are going to be there. He’s going to grow into that. He’s going to get more comfortable. He has to learn really the ins and outs of the North American ice completely before he starts taking his spots where you’re really going to see his skating take over and you see the the effectiveness of him skating with the puck. Once he really locked down the dimensions of the North American North American ice, then you’re really going to see him start taking over these games with his puck handling and his skating. But where he is defensively right now is so much further than what we expected him to be at. Like, yeah, Simon Evansson does have to clean up some mistakes from him here and then, but he has looked good. He has looked physical. Like, I I see everybody in the chats. He is not being uh he’s not being chopped down. He’s not being shaken. He’s not being scared by any of these big physical forwards that are throwing at him. And uh Casey in the chat says, “Is ASP ceiling higher than Cider?” Absolutely it is. like it’s it it’s probably higher than Edmonson’s too because just his natural his natural offensive ability is something that you can’t teach and like he’s been a a pubic hair away from multiple snipe shows already this year. Like it’s it’s pretty crazy. And once he truly truly gets comfortable out there, he is going to be absolutely just like Red Wings fans have never seen a defenseman like this. No. And and so it’s like hard for like a casual hockey fan that only watches the Red Wings and hasn’t seen these new age uh DMC calls them water bug defenseman that are out there flying around getting up on the break getting into the passing lacking the net and being that secondary help. Like Red Wings fans haven’t seen that out of out of a defenseman in a long long long time. So it’s going to be something that’s going to be like whoa. Okay. It’s like having another forward out there. It really is. And like you said, a lot having Simon Evansson so solid in the back end, allowing him to truly mold his offensive game, knowing he’s got Ed to clean up for him is just beautiful. It is. And it’s the perfect combination right now in that back end. I’m cur I’m curious at what point in the season does Eiserman look to extend JBD? If JBD continues to play like this, he’s on a one-year deal right now. I I’m very curious if if he puts together a string of 25 games, if he doesn’t get another like a two-year bridge deal, some similar to this the contract extension that Johansson got this past off. What’s Sherro’s deal? Sherro is done after this year. Oh, okay. Yeah, do it then. I would defin I would definitely like to see I was going to say if if you got Sherat for another year, maybe you wait so then maybe Johansson 2 will be ready after that. But no. Yeah, if if if Sherrot’s gone, I would love to see Yeah. Give JBD another year or two, just a you know, nothing crazy. Two years, three million, something like that. Yeah. And it Yeah, this is the last year of Sherro Steel. That I am correct on that. So, yeah, I I think that you gota you you got to explore that if he’s continuing to put together these types of games as well as he’s playing some pretty big minutes for you as well. He’s playing 15 minutes for you a night. Like, that’s something that you can easily turn up to. I don’t believe that it would get worse if you played him 18 minutes a night. So, I think that you solidify your third pair with Johansson and JBD for the next couple years. I think that will be absolutely amazing. Style in the Woodward Sports Ches Finny. He’s the next Henrik Zederberg. I mean, seventh round pick. Hank was a seventh round pick, too. Or was he six? It was six or seven. He was six. He was six. Yeah, it’s No, he was a seven play style. I think I think EMTT Finny shades to more of a goalcorer than Hank did, but their physicality and their forche is very similar. Like that was the thing that I loved about Zedberg. I I want to see Lucas Raymond build into more of a Zederberg role than Finny, per se. I think Finn is going to be the guy that’s going to be cashing in. But Henry Zedterberg was he was never the biggest guy. Okay, he was never the strongest guy, but he always used his body, used his positioning so well to protect the puck and to dig out pucks in battles on the boards, on the forche, different things like that. So, I yeah, it’s that mold is definitely there of that allaround physical two-way forward that you really like to see out there. I know that I I was way too drunk at [ __ ] to go after having that first OT unit that you put out there of Lin and ASP. That’s nails, dude. That’s [ __ ] nails. Like all of those guys are so fast. They’re so good at winning puck battles. They move around the ice so well. If you miss a shot against that unit, it’s a twoon-one breakaway and nobody on the ice can catch any of those guys. So it it was that was beautiful. I love to see the rooks skating so well. Like you said, they are putting so much pressure on opposing teams to get the puck out of their zone fast. They have to make decisions fast. And that’s where you’re seeing turnovers. That’s where you’re seeing guys like Larkin and Casper and Debrink keep the puck in the zone because you’ve got a Finny or an MBN attacking them behind the net, forcing them to make errant passes that other guys can come in and intercept. And shout out Tom Mlen because they’re playing [ __ ] hockey and they’re playing hockey in a physical playoff brand of hockey. And yes, they are awesome to watch. And like they are physically imposing like to keep going off that playoff style of hockey. They are physically imposing on you. They lean on you. Especially with that poor check today. They did not have as many block shots as usual, but also they didn’t get they outshot them by enough where the margin makes it still 11 block shots and some of them were extremely big. However, this is a stat that I think is very relevant. A team like the Oilers who’s very good at keeping the puck on their stick, they had 21 giveaways compared to the Wings 17. So being able to have the puck on your stick and have that possession time is so massive when you are playing a McDavid and a dry settle for when they do have the puck on their stick, they are dangerous every single time. And you limited those opportunities time after time today. And that’s why the brand of hockey is just so beautiful right now. It really is. It really is. And when, like I said, I I hate to be a broken record, but when you’re putting so much pressure on the defense of the other team to get that puck to their forwards fast and to make those plays to get them into the neutral zone fast, it’s going to result in a lot of turnovers because they’re going to have to blindly throw it off the boards a couple times because you have Finny crashing the net so hard and getting in on the forche. And it’s Oh, man. It It’s just so good to watch this brand of hockey. Before I answer this, before we I talk about this super chat. Oh yeah, we can talk about that. I just want to say the idea of space on the ice that this team has. Like they are committed to putting the puck into the correct spaces. And because they know where the spaces are that people are going to put the pucks, they constantly win those puck battles in the neutral zone. And I that’s another huge key that we were not winning last year. But we’ll hit this. Stephen Peters Copper is so bad. Please get him off the team. He’s cheeks. He is so bad. Like there is like Cop has his moments. Like today he did not play well, but like he has games at least. He gives you some grit at least. He does. Confer is soft. He is bad on the PK. He turns the puck over. He’s not in the right positioning. He’s just a net negative. And I do think that he is the next one to go. Like seriously, I think once Danielson is ready to go, JT Confer and Michael Rasmusen are going to be seeing their final days and we’ll see Danielson and Mer come up here and take care of business. So, um, especially with how the kids are playing, like why would you not just keep like if it’s working, just keep leaning. Mer scored again. He’s got two goals. Mer Mer has been on a tear in the A. He feels the disrespect that he should be on this roster and with the way Yeah. with the way that Comper is playing and Burger today the classic gets three great opportunities to score and does it like we know what he is. That is the exact performance I’ve seen out of Johnny Burgers a million times over. Like Joe Joe Danielson’s hurt. He’s going to get a chance. Danielson’s going to be on this roster very soon. He’s still rehabbing with Grand Rapids, but he’ll be on this team very soon. And like I said, the the two guys that you see exiting this lineup are Michael Rashm and JT Confer. And to get Coner off of here, we talked about, you know, a team might like having him as a $5 million third seat. So, you’ll probably have to move him and you’re going to have to add a piece to it. Maybe Burger will be sweet enough and it’s, you know, here give cash considerations, future, whatever it is. Uh Chris Huff in the Woodward Sports chat says, “The most underrated thing I’ve noticed outside of increased physicality is the general stick work, pokeaways, passes connecting, knocking pucks out of the air, controlling them, etc.” I can’t agree more wi with that, Chris, because you see the poke checks from the from the defense. We talked about Edmonson and Mosider using their length and their physicality to both get the poke or get the puck off of people’s stick and to put their sticks in the passing lanes. But I agree. How many times already this season have we seen even a forward or someone batting a puck down in the neutral zone, getting the puck down, you know, they try to chip it over, they try to chip it in your zone. No, they’re jumping up, batting it down, getting it on the ice and making plays. I see that multiple times in every game so far. And that is so important. Not allowing them to just dump it into your zone and then you’re then you’re backtracking, then you’re on your heels, then they’re coming at you. You stop it there and you set some things up. So that has been extremely impressive and the the tape totape passing has been so so clean in this one. They are moving the puck around. It’s ping ponging between sticks and we’re really seeing like it all started with that that debrink pass on the Patrick Kangle. Like that was insane insane feed from Alex. But the tape tape passing has been elite and that has been much better than I’ve noticed in the past couple years as well. It has absolutely like they are getting clean breakouts so often and they’re able to set up their offense better than I mean Edmonton was unable to get the puck in clean on the Red Wings today. They they were dumping almost every single puck in deep because they couldn’t penetrate the defensive shell that we were running as they were trying to get into our zone. However, Oilers, this is the Edmonton Oilers. Yes. Like this isn’t we’re not doing this against the Sabres or or or the Wild with McDavo and Dry like they were they were literally showing out and it it speaks to because they were they were getting rush chances. They were getting twoon- ones. They were consistently creating opportunities for themselves to take advantage in the neutral zone and and that is where like this team is taking steps. They were not doing this at all next last year. Last year when we watched the I remember so clearly the last time we played Edmonton, McDavid and Dry Stone did literally everything they wanted. There was no one. There might have been there might as well been no one out there. Like they literally just you know McDavid did his classic three crossovers left, three right, see you later and blow by our entire team like and that was not the case. He couldn’t even get going. He was afraid to shoot the puck. He was because there were so like our guy said, I can’t remember his name, but there were so many sticks out there. He was seeing so many bodies, the sticks in the zone, the sticks at his stick in the passing lanes. He he he couldn’t get clean looks. And I I saw it in here from uh where was it? I just saw it. Um Casey says uh it was nice to see the Red Wings control the play today and they abs they dominated the Edmonton Oilers this entire game. The only time that you really saw the Oilers like, “Okay, we’re the Edmonton Oilers. We’ve been in the cup the past two years. We’re going to do this was that last like or like the like eight minute mark in the third period when they really started to pick it up a little bit and they really started but like I said, then you threw that second line out there and MBN and Debrink and and Casper started ratting it up and it pissed them off even more. and threw them off of their stride and then you sick Finny on him and he is just everywhere up and down the ice pissing people off like and and Paul Woods said it on the car like the fourth line that the Red Wings are putting out there that’s going to wear teams down. Those are big physical players. A and like after having to chase after all these young guys all over the place and worry about all these kids skating around all the plays, then you put in the big goons on the fourth line, the big physical guys to beat you down. It it’s we are s that is one thing that we’ve said Steve Eisman absolutely knocked it out of the park with solidifying the forwards on the bottom lines in this team. The bottom six of this team is just night and day compared to what it was last year. And that’s because of JVR and Appleton and those guys actually being legitimate free agents. Not a Terraino, not a Justin Hall, not all these bums. Like I liked Sunny, but even Sunny wasn’t all that good. You got two guys that you can put on your bottom six that are actually going to be difference makers. Absolutely. and and apples huge contribution, fifth best penalty kill in the National Hockey League right now. Systematically they look better as a unit. They look better. Everything about the penalty kill looks a thousand times better. It is so good to see like and and here real quick. Uh Devin Silox says Spenny looks like the rich one. Yeah, this is uh this is my doctor brother’s office. I’m at his house in Ann Arbor now. Uh just hanging out with my nephew and and my dad and stuff. So, this is this is his office. This is not mine. He is he’s very rich. And I’m actually at my girlfriend’s house as well. I am I am also not at my prime location, but um Jane go in the chat. Shout out shout out the the ladies who like hockey. Oh, dude, the camera’s like following you. That’s crazy. What’s going on? Whoa. Oh, that’s sick. Charizard. Hell yeah. Is this play actually sustainable through a season or is it just a good start slashrun? Spenny’s camera is like creeping me out. It’s like all over the place. It’s Oh, damn. Kid it out. Big dubs. But with how they’re playing, no. Like they are playing a legitimate like style of hockey. like the the the PK looks legit. Like it’s not and it’s against good teams. We’re not playing against the Sisters of the Poor. We’re not playing against the Penguins or the Yeah. or the Sers. Like we’re doing it against Stanley Cup teams. Yes. We are We literally just played four of the front runners to win the Stanley Cup and we beat them all. And we And the PK looks great. The kids look great. They don’t look out physical. They don’t look outmatched. and and maybe they look better because they had the preeason to ramp up, but that’s still that that’s still not like the the only reason. It’s a brand of hockey that Mlen has instilled into these guys and that they consistently are just elevating their play every single time they go out there. The PK looks better, the forche looks better, the effort looks better, the physicality looks better, the goalending is better, the defense is better, everything is better. Everything that we would been bitching out about for the past two years has is better. So, from from my eyes and from what I see, this team is better. I agree. And we got a super chat in here from Phil Kolic Jr. He says, “This is the core team. We haven’t even seen other rookies yet. The NHL is not prepared for what’s coming.” Ex the highest drafted guy still isn’t even out there. Like, you’re the guy you drafted to be your 1C of the future still isn’t even a part of this team. And Mer is such a big part. And you’ve got El Joe’s cousin, Albert Joe. What are we calling? Anton. Anton Joe. Yeah. Anjo coming to join us video. Just a a big another big [ __ ] defenseman to put out there. Like we I’m very excited about him. And our goalie of the future is just a dog. He’s a Spartan dog. And I just dude like I I’m happy that we no longer have to like and yeah, BCH. if it boosts hype about like I said I I do not trust Russia. So like I mean hopefully he’s here next year. I want to see him here next year. He should be here next year but they could just be like no he’s not coming and there’s and Max Palante he’s playing great right now in college as well and Carter Bear like I you’ve got a lot it just continues to go and I’m glad now that Carter might fight a good fight. We’ve been fighting the Eiserman 1919 plan. Wait for the kids. The kids are coming. Like Neil Neil was getting so pissed at me last year and this offseason being like, Neil, I know that I’ve been saying this for a while, but wait for the kids. Like they’re all really good. He’s like, “Oh yeah, they’re all going to come in here and be the best players on the team.” Yeah. Yeah, they are. They are. And we’re seeing it. It’s happening. The eyes are planted. It’s actually happening in front of us. Oh, feels good. Absolutely electric. And all right, one second. And on the prospects, then we’ll get back to the actual game. Carter Bear could legitimately be such a steal. He was a top five talent before he got hurt and he fell all the way down to us. And he’s just a goalcoring wing who is absolutely grit as nails. Okay. Like we like this team’s prospect core is still so ripe. And that’s where during this trade deadline period, if they want to actually go get someone, there will be a huge selection of prospects that they can trade that have value because you’re also also other teams are looking at this Red Wings team and also that’s why there’s nine other teams at the Red Wings um affiliate Grand Rapids, Griffins, looking at Gustoson, looking at all these prospects because there will be trades available and they’re Looking at this track record that Eisman has right now on on the kids and how well the kids are playing right out of the gate. He now has the Casper track record, the Raymond track record, the Cider track record, the ASP track record, the MBN track record, and it’s just it’s getting longer and longer. And now GMs are going to come running with their tails between their legs like, “Oh my god, Stevie, give me your prospects. I want them. I want future stars.” and we’re going to steal the stars that they have now and we’re going to be ready to run through this Eastern Conference who is bleeding. They’re bleeding. You know what’s one thing that makes the the the Red Wings being in first place of the Eastern Conference even better? Say that again. The Red Wings being in first place in the Eastern Conference. You know what’s one thing that makes it even better? Those hick [ __ ] in Ottawa suck. [ __ ] the senators, dude. You guys suck. [ __ ] the senators, man. Oh, it just it makes it so much better. Train us to Chuck, though. Give me Brady. Give me Brady. I’m kidding. I know. Come on. Are you kidding me? Oh, that’d be such a fever dream. Uh, yes. Woodward Wings. Finny is in the right spot all the time. He reminds me of the inner team comp. Casper I’m not saying as a center of course however as a winger in the right place. Yes. And that they are all these kids are so smart. Their hockey IQ is all off the charts. Their ability to find open space that is the definition of hockey IQ. Finny great at it. MBN great at it. ASP great at it. And like that is why they’re already here and they weren’t waiting. Go give me Mc Jesus, Stevie. Come home to Detroit, McDaddy. Oh my. All right. All right. I mean, [ __ ] it. Yeah, keep it coming. Give me the fever dreams. We’re in first place. Why not? We didn’t think we’re going to be here. Look at us. Huh? Look at us. Do you remember even Justin? You remember what happened when I when we when we hatched this idea? When I was like, “Hey, we should do like postgame shows for Rebels games this year.” Everybody in the group chat, oh yeah, you know, you guys are gonna be sad all year. Oh, you’re just gonna be crash. That means you’re in first place. Centennial season curses back. We’re so I’ll take that one on the chest cuz if they keep playing like this, Hockey Town, you better [ __ ] believe Hockey Town’s back. Hockey Town is so bad. Like screaming from the rooftops if they keep playing like this. Remember how good the Tigers looked? Yes. But this is a different sport. Like these are two like that is a baseball like centric collapse. Like they they’re like barring I I don’t expect the Red Wings to be the first place team in the Eastern like I I know that that’s going like that’s a little too far, but there’s barring like multiple devastating injuries. This is a dude. This is a playoff team for sure. And the goal like the the the the the tip of the cap is the goalending. Cam Talbot if he plays under I believe he played I don’t know like 50 games last year. If you have him somewhere around 40 that’s he will give you 91 numbers. Like we’ve seen it. He like when he is rested he is a very good goalie. However, you needed to fill in the other 42 games and now you have it. John Gibson after the shaky start has given you two be if if this is the John Gibson that we get like this is we’re making the playoffs plays like this and plays healthy stays healthy. Like I said, it’s not going to be like will the Red Wings make the playoffs. It’s can the Red Wings get to an Eastern Conference Finals? Yes. If John Gibson continues to play at the level he is these past two games and you’re getting a a a Talbit spot started every now and then, look out. Trippy Gypsy with the $20 super chat in there says, “You guys are killing the Wings content. Keep it up.” Listen, again, we appreciate you guys so much because we love talking about hockey. We can’t really talk that much hockey on the network and so we’re doing it and you guys are supporting. You guys are are help with like the numbers have been amazing. You guys have been so awesome and and the Red Wings are giving us something to cheer for. So, we appreciate you so much. Yeah, absolutely. Like you this is done by you. So, thank you for real. And and Trippy Gypsy’s on fire right now. Gibson Augustine next year. Oh, dude. As Senny just busted all over the place. Oh my god. Oh, dude. Oh my god, man. I I’m buying a Trey Augustine jersey the minute he decides his number. Like when he decides his number, I’m buying his jersey. Um I want to buy MSU jersey out this. Uh burn with the super chat. He says, “Hey, hey, hockey town that third period was crack.” Absolutely. Because we saw because that that is something that we didn’t talk about either. That is something that flew under the radar. You took the best punch that a multipletime Stanley Cup team had to give. You took that body blow from the Edmonton [ __ ] Oilers. Like you said, this isn’t the Pittsburgh Penguins. It’s not this shitty poopy Ottawa Senators. This is the Edmonton Oilers. And they were fighting for their lives in that third period. They gave you their best punch and you parried that [ __ ] and you got them back and you sent out the rats and they ratted it up and I love it, dude. Th like this team is being built and and that’s what we’ve always said like Eman said it himself too. I am building this team to compete for a Stanley Cup. And you could see it the style of hockey that they they play night in and night out. And the guys that they’ve drafted, like every single one, like the most physical players on the team are all Steve Eisermanman drafts. And they’re all 20 years old. I mean, half of them are 20 years old. Half of them are 20 years old. Yeah. But like this is all like the the groundwork that Steve Eerman has laid for this team. And I think that the the final push of of Lin talking in the media really like got him to lock in and was like, “You know what? This like the way that I’ve been running the team for the last couple years bring like bringing in all these older guys on these pretty expensive deals for long term isn’t working.” and he admitted that himself and he he went and completely changed up his mantra like because everyone told me all offseason ASP won’t make the team. That’s not what Eisman does. MBN won’t make the team. That’s not what Eisman does. But Eisman completely flipped his philosophy in order to make this team be what they are right now. And they are the goal like like we can’t stress enough that everything is better across the board. There’s not one thing. You cannot name literally one thing. No. five on you got the five on five scoring in this game against Edmonton. The penalty kill has been amazing. You were like you talk about obviously Florida’s power play unit isn’t what it normally is with Bararkov and with Kachchuck, but like Tampa, Florida, and Edmonton. Those are three of the best power play units in the National Hockey League. And your penalty kill went out there and took care of business. So yeah, shout out to 90% right now. They are over 90%. That is literally insane. We don’t need you Detroit Lions on Sunday. We have the Detroit Red Wings. Come on. For the WS on Hockey Boys, Justin and Spencer, appreciate you, Justin Fan. Appreciate you, man. It’s It’s just good to have good hockey back because I love hockey and I love the Red Wings and having them actually look like what I watched my entire life. what I well I mean I guess it was my early life now because my past 10 years they’ve been sometimes maybe good sometimes maybe she but they they have been playing really really good hockey and just got to keep it going and we’re going to keep it going for you all season long with these postgame shows. Um I think that’ll do it for us today Justin you got anything else? Yeah just beat the beat the is out of the Sabres. They’re they’re struggling right now. you’re you’re hot. Tuesday, a great chance for you to honestly I’m sure that’s why Patty didn’t play today because they want to make sure that he can play in Buffalo because he’s running out of times where he’s going to have homecomings and that’s where he grew up playing. So, um you always got to take Patty Kane a square goal when they play the Savers because he always does. However, a close personal friend of my brother’s girlfriend Patrick Kane went to high school. Dude, we have such now like now like looking and one more thing before we end the stream like looking ahead at the these next couple games in October, we really could be sitting pretty in this Eastern Conference. 910 and one like Yeah, like we got the Sabres and the Islanders is the next two. Then we got a home and home with the Blues. The Blues are playoff team, so that’s going to be a tough series. And then we go out to California to play the Kings and the Ducks and the Sharks and the Golden Knights. So like you if you you split that you you you take care of that front end where where you have those winnable games against the Savers and the Blues. We are we’re getting dialed. So we’re talking about the teens. We’re talking about wins in the teens before we see another No, we’ll we’re not going to get ahead of ourselves, but we will be back. We appreciate you all for for being here. Hey, shout out to Taylor. She plays with my former teammate Hugo um who was on our team last year. He’s one of our captains who graduated last year. Yeah. No, have him hit me up. I’m I mean, I’m down. I got a really busy schedule, but if I can make it work, I’ll I’ll I’ll come down for sure. Shout out. And Casey, listen, I don’t think 10 and one’s out of the cards at all. But you got to take it one game at a time. Sabres up next. Can’t allow this to be a game where you let your foot off the gas because you’re going to play Buffalo. Gotta go in there play with because they they do have players. They got Taves Thompson. They got to empower. They got they’ve got good players. So, you got to make sure you take care of business. Mlen is the MCDC for the Wings. Bank it. Brad McGuire. Just play [ __ ] hockey. We appreciate you all. Smash that like button, subscribe. We’ll be back after the Sabres game. We’ll see you then. This is Wings postgames. Peace.
The Detroit Red Wings battle with the Edmonton Oilers on a Sunday afternoon in Detroit, Emmitt Finnie gets his first goal of the season and Dylan Larkin continues to play at an extremely high level.

YERRRR THE BOYS ARE BUZZIN LGRW 🐙 🏒 🤘
Exciting game 💯❤️
THE BOYS DOING NUMBERS!!!! #FINSUP
Keep it up so Spenny can squeeze a bit more redwing content into Big D
The kids are alright! LGRW
We've seen good starts and then watched the bottom fall out, so I'm cautiously excited, but this does feel different from previous years. Might be legit finally!
44:54 gentlemen, I feel like when my kid is a teenager and we’re talking about the golden years of him being a wings fan, he’ll be talking about this being the start of them. Excellent show.
I hope that Stevie can get this team back to the playoffs this season
20:45 no. stop it.
