49ers GM Lynch: Christian McCaffrey ‘showed the world he’s still got it’ | PSNFF | NFL on NBC

right now. And John Lynch, you guys have been through a lot this year. What was the best part of this win tonight? Well, it’s being right here. I love it when you guys come to town cuz we keep Coach Dunie says, “Hey, if you win, would you join us?” And sec second time we’ve been here. But, you know, I think I think it was Kyle basically calling the shot. Kyle did an unbelievable job. We had a tough loss last week. Lost a guy who’s a heart and soul of our team in Fred Warner. And Kyle gathered our team on Wednesday and talked about we we still have a really good football team. And he he did it was beautiful. He he showed Fred as a rookie in his very first game wearing number 48 at Minnesota and he said, “Look, he’s got no swag. He’s got no dreads. He doesn’t even have a towel. He’s helping people up. Fred never helps people up now.” And he showed this young kid and but he showed him at the end of that game and the character and the will punching a ball out and he said, “Tatum, it’s your turn now, guys. It’s our team collectively. And then the last thing, Kyle, uh he hasn’t said it all year. Every now and then he’ll say it. I want I want this to be a 40run game. And uh I think at the end of the game, we had 37. So pretty darn good. Well, I hate to say it, but somebody got a tip off on that. I said running back was going to have a big night tonight. And I could just tell from Christian watching him in the warm-ups, he told me he’d watched some tape of two years ago and he wasn’t breaking tackles and making people miss. He said, “I got to break tackles tonight.” And he was ready. I’ll keep handing him that tape from two years ago because that looked beautiful. I think, you know, we know competitors and a lot of people came in this game rightly so talking about Bejian Robinson. Raheem says it. He thinks he’s the best player. I I can’t I can’t uh argue against that. He’s a wonderful player, but I think a prideful guy like Christian said, “You know what? I’m not done yet.” And he showed the world he’s still got it. Amen. I got to give the general manager, the San Francisco 49ers some props, man, because what we saw here, you created a great locker room. Trent Williams, seeing Christian McCaffrey, the young guy out here. Talk about the locker room and type of guys that you want part of this team. Yeah, we we put a lot into it. I think sometimes you have to make mistakes early in our time here and uh you realize it’s really about that. Um we can see the talent pretty good. We have a good idea because we’ve been together, Kyle, and myself and our staffs as to what we want at each position. But where you miss, you miss when you miss on the character of a player. We call it wit, what it takes. And we put grades on it. We go to great lengths. And if you just stick to that, good things happen. I think I learned a lot from this guy. I see your coach. Hey, you see your impact? Tell him. No, we used to talk about that a lot. And he was one of the character guys in that locker room. And so my advice to him, just pick a lot of guys like yourself and you’ll be okay. Other than you have to be proud of what Robert Solid did tonight, losing Fred Warner and having that defense come out and play like this. Well, you never like to see a good friend u you know, he got his head coaching opportunity. Unfortunately, it didn’t go well for him, but we told Robert right away, hey, he was working for Green Bay last year and we started talking and said, hey, man, we would love to have you a part of us. And uh we were able to do that. And um that’s it’s it’s unbelievable the difference he makes. The confidence, the presence. Um he’s a thinker out there. Uh doing really good things with our group. I I think about your guys team this year, John, and I think about no Fred Warner, you just mentioned, no Nick Bosa. KD misses a month plus. The receivers are banged up and Kyle Shanahan just keeps bringing this group back together. Quarterback’s out. The quarterback’s out. And the amazing thing is you seem to forget that with the way M. Jones is playing. How has this group stayed together from your perspective? Uh, they got a lot of grit. They got a lot of character. We still do have a core group of really good football players. It’s hard to lose a Nick Bosa and Fred Warner. There’s only so many needle movers, game changers, but we still have enough in there. We still have a lot of I think future Hall of Fame players. And then we got I think this year what’s helped, we’ve infused it with some youth. And these guys are just hungry. They’re hungry every day to get better. And they’re getting better. And it’s a fun mix to see the Trent Williams of the world and then these young kids that are playing really good football for us and and uh hopefully we can keep it going. Really nice to have George KD back. What does he bring to your offense, to your team? Energy. Energy and then really good play. You know, he’s a complete player. U the whole game when you have 37 runs, I’m I’m up there and I’m saying, “Okay, the play action’s coming cuz they’re going to start coming up and we’re” And George just can run. He can flat out run and he makes plays and uh the great thing about George, he does it in the run game as much as a blocker. He blocking defensive ends. Um he just goes and goes and goes and we love having them. Yeah. Everybody was talking about your run game being a little bit Oh, they’re only averaging 3.1 a carry. But when you take a point of attack blocker like that, yes, out of the lineup, that that’s tough. You have to make some adjustments for him not being in I think that’s huge. George is a he is a game changer on the offensive side of the ball. Um he has so much fun playing the game. He loves burying people. I think the other thing our receivers are finally starting to settle in. Kyle always talks the receivers set the tone in the run game. The way they block and we have a lot of new people uh playing receiver. We ask a lot of them and I think they’re starting to settle in. Know their assignments better. Then we got a pretty good runner. I love the fact that K Yeah. Usually that sound means coming. Dunie kept talking about the need to run downhill against this defense. Yeah. Yeah. And I I think we did it. We saw usually we’re traditionally we’re an outside zone team. I saw a lot of powers. I saw a lot of gap scheme. I saw downhill running. And uh it boded very well for us today. What’s up? Showstopper shows up in George KD. How we doing guys? All right. Your show. That was mine. Thank you, John. And John Lynch. Thank you so much for joining us, man. Congratulations.

  1. CMC is huge for the niners. Look what happened last year when he was hurt. They are winning these games with the practice squad. Amazing. 😊❤🎉Mac is doing well too.

  2. Purdy, Pearsall back next week. Aiyuk in a couple weeks hopefully AND if they keep this run game rolling, Niners gonna be tough to beat even with 2 all world defensive players out for the year.

  3. Bethune was a 7th round pick. Connor Colby 7th round. Juann Jennings 7th round. All guys making plays to win. To go along with blue chip guys like CMC. Chase Lucas made 2 possible season saving plays in place of injured rookie Upton Stout. Malik Mustapha is going to be a superstar. And they still don’t have Aiyuk, Pearsall and Brock Purdy. They’re holding on by threads and another loss of a big player maybe too much to overcome but if they can get somewhat whole by January they can hang with everyone in the NFC.
