These guys would've got like 130-150m deal couple years ago. In apron era they got 80-90m deal instead.

  1. Yeah that’s what it sounds like. I imagine the two sides are still negotiating where the Spurs are probably offering him a deal relative to what Portland just gave to Sharpe and Kamara and taking his lack of 3 ball into account. Sochan at 4 yrs, 55 will be a good deal for both sides.

  2. I feel like 4/60 is a slap in the face. I personally think the CBA makes giving Max money to 3rd/4th starter non appealing. Giving mid money to one of our best defenders isnt that unreasonable to me.

Sochan has been a menace on the defensive end and putting in so much work to try and improve his offensive game. 15M would be disrespectful, especially since he hasn’t been reach the surface of his prime yet. Not to mention he has taken up very challenge the Spurs have presented him without complaint.

I would at least give him 4/80 and see how much more he improves.

  3. Camara plays 74 games on average, shot 37.5% from 3 last year, and actually made All-Defense. Sochan doesn’t do any of those things and should be paid significantly less than him.

Sharpe’s deal is OK for a player whom I don’t think has star potential.

  4. If the Spurs offer is only 4/60, then I see very little reason Jeremy would accept it.

Makes more sense to just bet on yourself getting better offers in RFA next year. Because, at worst, I can’t see him dropping below MLE levels, so might as well just wait a year and see what you can get on the ‘open’ market

  5. As someone who thought Jeremey was worth 100/5 – I was wrong. However, I also don’t think he’s as low as 60/4.

  6. He shouldn’t get more than the MLE imo. 4/50 is the best option for him. Unless he wants to go RFA, and go through that debacle the 4 2021 class guys went through. Sochan doesn’t want to take the QO, as he won’t even come close to that money in UFA. 12.5MM/yr is a good deal for both sides. Although I’d add a team option in the final year for flexibility purposes but his agents wouldn’t agree to that.

  7. Gonna guess Spurs & Sochan will push extension talks for later, giving Sochan a chance to prove it this szn.

  8. Yep, Sochan’s market is between 4/60M and 4/70M.

His floor is the Toppin (4/58M) and Jovik (4/62M) deals.

His ceiling is strictly less than Camara (4/82M) who is an even better defender and a solid shooter.

  9. That’s why I said the other day that some 4yr/65mil deal was more likely and even then, that’d be pushing it

  10. This is great for the Spurs, because both are great contracts that spurs can use to influence the negotiation.

  11. lol. No fucking way. Dude is only 22 and his upside is basically bigger, stronger, taller Ginobili.

  12. I am a Sochan truther and I still think he takes a 1+1 year show me deal somewhere else. I think the two PDX extensions are exactly where you don’t want to be in this CBA – locking in long term money on players you really like, but who haven’t been important pieces on a winning team. it’s a coin toss between looking like a genius and looking like a moron

  13. No, just no. I want Sochan to succeed but let’s be real, we should not be tying him into a big contract when the Spurs have 3 other more important players to pay when their rookie contract is near expiration. I prefer a 2 year deal.

  14. Camara is a great data point. Camara is healthier, shot 38% from three last year and made All-Defense.

    Data points from other extensions:

    * PJ Washington 4/88 or 22M or 12% of cap
    * Caruso: 4/81 or 20M or about 10-11% of the salary cap.
    * Camara: 4/82 or 20M or about 10-11% of the salary cap.
    * Nikola Jovic 4/62M or 15.6 or 8% of cap
    * Jonathan Issac: 4/60 or 15M or 7-10% of the cap (flat contract)
    * Cory Kispert: 4/54 or 13.5M or 7-9% of the cap (declining)
    * AJ Green: 4/45 or 11.3M or 6% of the cap

These are contracts from this year and next year. Sochan fits somewhere below Camara.

  15. Sochan is easy to get excited about because he’s such a great culture fit, but his 3p shooting makes a pretty lousy skills fit for San Antonio in particular.

  16. We missed the deadline to extend right? What does that mean? Can we still give him an extension during the season?

  17. I remember end of last season people on this sub were talking about him getting 4/80.

  18. I ain’t mad at that. Worst case he can be a McDaniels bench type defense IF he can improve 3 this year which I believe he can. 15-18M per year isn’t that bad
