Jaylen Brown: Tom Thibodeau Showed Us How Knicks BEAT Celtics | Practice Interview
here. But for the guys off the ball, like when you’re off the ball, how important is their role whether it’s cutting or just, you know, keeping the floor space in that style of like maintaining that offense? Yeah, maintaining our space is key. Um, being able to recognize if they’re like below the line of the level of the ball slash if they’re up above the level of ball, we slide. So, being able to um make our reads, get to our spacing, so everybody has room to play. What’s the balance between then sort of matching the pace versus like you know Sam maybe just sticking in the corner keep driving lanes like how do you read that balance of like keeping the pace versus trying to stay in place so you guys put the ball hand it’s just reading the help just seeing how they how the other team is guarding um if they’re overly aggressive they’ll be up in those seams and that means they’re off the body in the corner that means I can maybe go get shot get get Sam or Payton a shot because they’re off the body so I go DHL somebody in the corner maybe that flattens them out the next possession now I’m able to drive after with Maxi and Edgecom’s ability to puncture the gaps. On one hand, how much pressure does that put on the help defenders, but on the other, is that something you guys can leverage against them and force them, you know, funnel them into making the decisions that you want them to? Um, yeah, you want to obviously those guys are good. You’re talking about for us on defense, right? Correct. Obviously those guys are good uh drivers. Maxi Maxi is really good getting into his right hand. I haven’t seen too much of S film, but I’ve been watching the film. Um, so being able to not make it easy for him, make him have to make passes all game long is is a part of our uh our scheme. I guess you feel like you’ll be able to go on Wednesday. We’ll see. We’ll take it one day at a time, but as of now, I feel great. Um, so the game um I wasn’t too concerned, you know. I didn’t think it was nothing, you know. Uh, so I was fine. Just maybe a little tweak, but nothing crazy. You mentioned space in your first answer. I’m curious. Does the space with this team feel in the way that you guys get into it like feel different than what it was the last couple years cuz you’re playing different? Um to some degree, yes. Cuz we’re playing a lot faster. So like you got to think a lot faster. When you’re playing a little bit slower, it’s easier to kind of get to your space. But uh this year we got to be we got to play fast and think fast at the same time. What’s been uh reaction outside guys out? gotten calls people like what’s what’s the what was that experience like and what’s been the reaction uh from my like I guess intermediate circle has been has been good you know just um implemented a lot of my family in it my grandpa he loved it and he enjoyed it shocking so he’s walking around with his nose in his in the air like so uh I enjoyed it I appreciate Netflix for being able to share those moments with my grandpa and my family so Um, it was pretty cool. You were kind of the move you were talking about just kind of taking stuff, showing people you goods and the not so good in terms of Yeah. very different for me, you know, not something I’m always been superly comfortable with. Um, so it’s a it’s a a vulnerable, you know, kind of transition for me to be able to just let people into my life and my world from the outside looking in. Um, but you know, it’s a new era. You know, I’m, you know, feel like, uh, in my personal life, things are changing. So, I’m just gradually accepting it and being able to show you guys kind of like who I am and what I’m about and what I do on a day-to-day basis. Um, I feel like people can benefit from, so I don’t mind. How is the the Twitch streaming kind of fit into that? I know you were breaking down film and all that. Like, how gratifying is it to have just like direct access to your fans to be able to kind of break down the basketball side, too? Yeah, cuz uh a lot of times uh the fans are hearing from you guys and you you guys got y’all have your own windows of where y’all want to share information. I think it’s probably interesting at least to say the least that you get to hear from the player um a little bit more in terms of what I see on the film, on the court, off the court as well. Um you know, just getting the direct opinion. When did you kind of find yourself in that space where you wanted to be more outward and and let the outside world and both with the streaming and with Netflix? Like what made you get to that? I realized like, you know, no offense, but the media is just like it’s kind of clickbaity for the most part. Controversy is what sells. So instead of like actually getting the story or actually doing the work, it’s just about what’s going to make the most noise. And it just puts, you know, one you guys in a tough position, but then it makes me not feel like I’m being my story is being told in in a way that I feel authentic to myself cuz everything is just about controversy and clicks and sales rather than like actual storytelling and journalism. So I just took matters into my own hands. Is there a different process? I feel good. But I think Joe’s done a great job of setting the tone, the pace, the energy, the like the style that we need to survive and the style that we need to play every single night. Um, you know, obviously we’re less talented than we have been before, less experienced than we have been before. So, this is the style of basketball we have to play. We got to double down on it if we want to be successful. I think Joe is like, you know, did a good job of that. He’s like maybe been a little crazy, but a little crazy is needed at times. I’m okay with that, you know. So, um, you got to be a little crazy if you want to if you want to win or you want to, you know, outperform people’s expectations. So, I think Joe’s done a great job. How was it having coach Tibs as a visitor today? And did you get to break down any fun basketball stuff? I think that was awesome, you know, having Tibs. Obviously, they eliminated eliminated us last year. Um, so him being able to kind of give us some of the thoughts that he saw in that series and some of the stuff that they broke down in our personnel or even our team helps us grow and learn from that, you know. Um, we lost last year stung losing to the Knicks. So to have Tibs here at our practice and and explaining some of the things that he saw to help them beat us only helps me get better, only helps us get better. So, um, I value I value that. Shout out to Tips for being here today. How much did that apply to you personally? Um I don’t know what like a percentage just you know how much did you take away from it like I took a lot I took a lot you know um being able to talk to him and and ask questions about what he was seeing you know he was breaking down some film and stuff like that talking to Joe from a team perspective and from like from a top down perspective like what do you wanted to do with me and Jason or what he wanted to do when the ball was in my hands. Um, it it allows you to grow if you’re if you’re humble enough to listen. It’ll it’ll allow you to go grow. Have you been in that position before where an old like a coach is coming in being like, “This is how we beat you guys or is this the first of its kind?” This is the this is the first of its kind to this nature. Like, you know, the teams that have beaten us in the playoffs, you know, haven’t been in that position, a lot of them still have their jobs for the most part. Um, so you know, this was a unique position um where a guy could come in directly after and give us some feedback on on just how we can be better, how I can be better. So, I I valued that, you know, that was great. Joe, you have a lot of guys aren’t really known for playing with an edge. It’s not like there’s a Dylan Brooks on this team, but Joe’s trying to get some of that out of you guys. How do you on the court help Joe? How do you see these guys? How do you pull some of that out of guys who might not normally play that way? It’s a lead by example. Um for sure. Um I got to you got to demonstrate it. So in practice, you got to be you got to win every sprint. You got to you got to be one of the harder hardest playing players for them to be able to everybody around to be able to see and be like this is the level everybody’s at. Can’t be like like everybody got to play like that. With Jaylen, you can you can take the pract today off like you got success comes from the top to the bottom. So, holding myself accountable, Joe holding me accountable to play with that energy, put my body on the line, make sure that we’re all ready to go sets the tone for the whole training camp for everybody. So, um you know, I’ve been I’ve tried to lead everything from from the beginning of training camp to now. Jaylen, last question. What are the emotions, the excitement for opening night for you even though you’ve been through a few times and then what will your message be to this group? I don’t know. Emotions may be, you know, right now you ask me, might be different from the actual day. When I get there, I might feel, you know, I don’t know. But, uh, opening night is great. It’s it’s one of the funner times of NBA seasons. Like the first game, it’s just like the first day of school. Like, you know, got your outfit lined up, you know, shoes shoes lined up, you know, you’re ready to go. So, I’m looking forward to it.

4:55 I don’t know why Boston “media” the people who cover some not all love us when we winning and have no faith it’s like they don’t like our team they just cover it
I was about to say no 20+ lead is safe against the Knicks but now that Tibs broke some things down to the guys and how they lost that series that gives me a bit of optimism. Hopefully Celtics can comeback on them this year instead even though I'd prefer not to be 20, 25 or whatever it may be down.
Future Senator of Massachusetts Jaylen Brown
My guy. 🤞🏿💪🏿☘️💯
The NBA really comes down to a make-or-miss league. If you make your shots, you win — simple as that. In that matchup, the refs let the Knicks play more physical, and the Celtics never adjusted. That threw off their rhythm and led to a lot of missed shots. It also didn’t help that Jaylen Brown because he was injured, looked like he was only playing at about 60–70 percent
I honestly can't think of a time I've heard a HC invite another HC into a meeting to explain how he beat them. That's amazing humility and awareness. The BEST way to learn is to hear it from the ones who beat you.. I don't think many coaches' ego would allow that.
Bring Thibs into the front office.
My favorite Celtic
That's wild, I forgot Thibs was fired. You look relaxed Jaylen, great work!
Ultimate pro!
Thibs: "So I kind of prefer this thing where my best players take up most minutes on the floor…"
Jaylen: "Sounds a bit oversimplified in terms of strategy, but I'm listening."
Thibs: "Well, depth is great, and all but 4 of your top 6 players struggled to have even two games with at least 25 minutes, so next time I recommend playing your best 7 players on 30+ minutes of game time."
Thibs isn't a good enough coach for his advise to be of any value, lets stop being goofy.
LOL THIBS YOU BUTT HURT THEY WONT KNOW NOTHING WHOLE NEW SYSTEM AND COACH 🟠🔵🟠🔵🟠🔵 🗽
The C’s should bring Tom back ✅👍🏻
Celtics shot to much three in those first two games they lost. Yeah I know they shot a lot of 3's in games but that's one thing that hurt them.
Bring Thibs as a consultant like JVG a couple season back.
