Episode 578: Tua Talks, Trade Chatter, Is Big Three Heading for Failure Territory?
And we’re off again. Just like Don Schula in the old days, we’re doing two a days here at the old All Dolphins podcast. One late for Wednesday, October 15th. Earlier today, posted the behind enemy lines with Daniel Oyusi of ESPN former Miami Dolph Miami Herald Dolphins beat reporter. And if you haven’t checked out that episode yet, all I have to say is what the hell is wrong with you? Oh, sorry. Uh, but encourage you to check it out. In this particular episode, I’m joined by Chris Perkins from the South Florida Sunel. Like, I really need to intro introduce him. The dude is all over the place in the airwaves. If you follow the Dolphins, you know who Perk is. Um, before we get going, please like, subscribe, comment, share, all that good stuff. Check out the written content. Miami Dolphins onsi.com. Check out Perks written content at sunsel.com where he just finished posting a scathing harsh column. We’ll we’ll get into it a little bit later on. First, let me be a good host and be polite and say hi Perk. Hey, poop. How are you, man? A lot going on in Dolphin’s Land, huh? As always. Yeah, there is. We’re gonna talk about the Tua press conference because we must. Uh, we’re gonna talk about Perks column. I wrote a column um couple of columns actually today. One of one of which was on Jonas Savaya. Um I also wrote about the rookie the rookie basically what to do with Jon Savaya and also another one bigger look picture at Kenneth Gran’s Joanaya and their struggles. Perk wrote about as the headline suggests that Mike McDaniel the uh trio of Mike McDaniel, Chris Greer and Tuatango Vioa are rapidly approaching failure status. Yeah, they’re Yeah. Going from mediocrity to failure. Yeah. Okay, we’re going to dive into all that. I guess we should start with the tour press conference. Um, and again, as I put on social media, props for him for owning for owning uh owning up to the his regrettable comments after the game against the Chargers on Sunday. The one part I didn’t like is it actually somebody pointed out and it’s a good point and I wasn’t I should have I I was remiss in not mentioning that in uh my column that I wrote about it that he I probably would I wish he hadn’t gone with the old if my comments were misconstrued dude there was not a whole lot of misconstring to to go there but other than that and the biggest prop I gave him it wasn’t just guys before we get started I want to make this statement And then the second there’s a follow-up question. I said what I said. Let’s just talk about Cleveland. He actually answered other questions. So props to him for that. The the old misconred part could have done without it. But overall, I’d say he did well today in the public setting. I think he did very well. And you know, I wasn’t in there. I went to the locker room for you guys probably know by now that when Tua speaks at 3:15 on Wednesday, the locker room opens at the exact same time. Same as postgame when Tuer takes the podium, the locker room is open. I rarely will attend a Tua press conference. He usually doesn’t say anything. I like to talk to other players in the locker room. I did that today. But I’ve seen video of Tua. I have read about what he said. I talked to other reporters. Props to Tua. As Poop said, he owned up to it. He took the manly approach. I agree. I could have done without the misconrue, but whatever. Whatever. Um he he did the right thing. He he had a lapse in judgment after the game. He was frustrated. He took private matters into the public. That’s a big no no in pro sports. In college sports and high school sports that’s a big no no. He owned up to it and you know it’ll there’ll probably be a couple of um smoldering embers uh you know tomorrow and and Friday, but I think he pretty much extinguished the fire. He did the right thing. He took a good approach. I will say this and and I put this in my column today. It wasn’t a big deal, but you know, Tua didn’t apologize to the whole team, which is fine, but he Tua was quick to point out during training camp, Tyreek has got fences to men. You can’t just say what he said and come back and it’s okay. Yep. I you know I think the same principle should apply here and and so um you know we’ll we’ll see what happens with that. But um you know I know that some players were upset but as Jack Jones said and poop you know Jack Jones is very colorful. I talked to him there were some swords some fwords not directed at Tua. That’s just how Jack talks. That’s just how he expresses himself. Right. I understand. Yes. Yeah. So, but he said, you know, look, um, f an apology. That’s not going to do anything. It’s already out there. But he did say Tua is our leader and we need him to be our our leader. So, Jack Jones and and the sense that I got from players, they’re all willing to put this behind them. Tua did the right thing publicly and privately. So, uh, we should be able to move on, as I say, except for a couple of smoldering embers, maybe. Yeah. And if the biggest repercussion of this is that some guys all of a sudden don’t like tour could do without him, more than likely not going to affect not going to affect anything that happens on the field um on Sunday against the Cleveland Browns. And what I realized today or as somebody pointed out, I was like, “Oh, that’s right. going to be their first home game first of all for Dylan Gabriel, their new quarterback. It’s their first home game period, sorry, at Huntington Bank Stadium since September 21st because they had a couple of road games and then they had the game in London against the Minnesota Vikings. So, it’s been a while since they’ve been at home and the last time they played at home, they beat the Green Bay Packers. So, something to keep in mind. Um, and no, again, it didn’t again, I don’t I don’t think there’s going to be any like lasting effects from this. Um it just one of those that wasn’t needed and it’s it was a bad look for a team right now that’s getting a whole lot of bad looks for how they’re doing on the field. Mike McDaniel before practice talking about, you know, saying that Tua had made amends with most of the players, even if it wasn’t a not apology. Got bigger fish to fry. Damn. Certainly got bigger fish to fry or does he have bigger mammals to fry? I don’t know. Sorry. Had to be done, right? So, yeah. Thank you. So, anyway, we couldn’t put that to rest. Another quick to a note. Uh he is on the injury report again today with the left thumb but he was a full participant. He had an interesting answer to Feronus asking him if there were any um any effects in the in being able to grip the ball Sunday against the Chargers and he said there were a couple of plays that that were off but got to keep going. So, um I didn’t notice any throws where the ball kind of came out funny uh on Sunday against the Chargers and um certainly not in the fourth quarter when he directed two drives that had the Dolphins in position to win before the defense again failed to do so. Um speaking of the injury report, let’s attack that fairly quickly, as quickly as we can. Two players in practice on Wednesday. Elijah Campbell, Alec Engle is a new name with neckl which is always an interesting one when they throw in rest in there. Does that mean he could have practiced? I don’t know. Limited. Aaron Brewer pectoral Jordan Brooks is a new name as well. Neck injury. Dante Trader Jr. new name on the injury report. Shoulder injury. Darren Waller with the obligatory hip rest. But that’s an improvement. It was limited last week. At this time it was a DNP. And then four guys full but on the injury report. Tyrell Dodson with a concussion no longer has a red jersey which I think would means he was on the he’s on the verge if not already. He’s clear concussion protocol. Should play Sunday. Storm duck ankle full participant. I would expect him to be back and then this is going to lead us to what happens in the secondary as far as the starting lineup and we can discuss that quickly. Two was on the injury report as I mentioned and Cedric Wilson with the knee. He was not on the injury report on Friday, so therefore was a healthy scratch, which is extraordinarily interesting. One week after you signed him off the New England New Orleans Saints practice squad, despite having undergone a knee surgery procedure, minor one, albeit, but then he’s a healthy scratch when he’s no longer on the injury report. So, is he even going to be active on Sunday against the Brown? Uh, let’s go back to the secondary Storm Duck. based on this more than likely plays your prediction is going to be Storm Duck and Russul Douglas, right? I No, I think uh Storm and Jack Jones I I think that I think that Jack Jones has the better big play percentage as we saw against the Jets. Um he’s had a couple of touchdown passes against him where he had pretty good coverage. Um now you do have the the you know the three penalty game that Jack Jones had. So, I I I think he’s he’s a lot of feast and or famine in him. Yeah. But the feast, like I told Jack uh today, that play against the Jets is still holding up as the play of the year because it pretty much pretty much delivered uh your only victory of the season. He got a kick out of that. He he laughed uh hardily about that. So, um I I would I would go with Jack along with Storm Duck. Okay. See, I I I would go Russell Douglas based on two factors. Number one, he’s had a really good game against the Chargers. And then number two, if you look at the play time in that game, Douglas played every snap, but one, I’m going to guess it was a goal line play. And then Jack Jones played about I think it was like 65 70% of the snaps where they they also got some looks to Ethan Bonner and then Juju Brent, although Juju Brent I think may have been the nickel, but Ethan Bonner got like about 15 snaps and it was Jack Jones who came out. Um, so I think I think it’s going to be Duck and Douglas, but what do I know? And Douglas putting himself in the conversation as somebody who could be of interest to other teams if the Dolphins decide to be sellers. And now there there several names on on the list and we’re going to dive into that next. And then after that, we’re definitely going to get to your column. You’re not you’re not escaping this without putting out there enough enough to provide some info. Not too much that we that folks shouldn’t still go check it out at sensel.com. Um the obligatory names are out there. Jaylen, Phyllis, Bradley, Chub, Jaylen Wright, and then and I still don’t understand exactly how anybody trades for Jaylen Wright, even though I know there were teams that were high on him in the 2024 draft, but you’re looking at a guy who had, you know, knee injury in training camp and hasn’t played it down so far this year. And then Rasul Douglas is one that that we threw out on Miami Dolphinsai.com and then one that I saw this afternoon by somebody who covers the New York Giants as potential targets that doesn’t mean the Dolphins would be willing to entertain discussions. But what do you think of the idea if an offer is made of moving on from Jaylen Wadd? Well, I I I think this that um you know, you you need to have a big picture plan in place before you just start discarding pieces. And so, what do you want the next coach and GM to have? Do you want them to have a bunch of draft picks, or do you want them to have some talent and some draft picks, or do you want them to have a lot of the existing talent and it’s up to them how they want to proceed? So, you know, um it I wouldn’t, you know, I if I’m a new coach and GM, it would be nice if you, you know, could choose among some players such as Tua or Jaylen Phillips or Bradley Chub or Jaylen Wadd. You want to have some talent, right? Kater Koku, Storm Duck, Minka Fitzpatrick. Like, you don’t want to walk in and there’s nothing and you know your draft picks are kind of middling draft picks. So, or or do you have like a 2019 situation and you better get a coach if you’re going to tank in 2026, better have a coach who’s on board with that. Correct. Correct. That’s right. That’s correct. Although that hasn’t been proven. Yes. Yes. Um but yeah, so I I think if you have a M and and then who’s in charge of this master plan? Chris Greer. So there’s a whole big deal, but yeah, you know, I wouldn’t I I wouldn’t have Wadd on there. Uh but um pretty much anybody else I probably have on there. Yeah. No, you make a good point in that because Devon Achan is also somebody who could become a discussion partly because he’s heading into finishing his third year in the NFL, which means he’s going to be eligible for contract extension. And you know, this agent’s going to be picking up the phone to whoever’s in charge after the season. Like, show us the love. Um, and then the other part of it is again, we know the life cycle of a running back isn’t that long and is Devon Chen’s value ever going to be greater than it is right now. So there’s arguments to be made for moving on from him even though right now he’s clearly your best player. So for those who would say I’m crazy for suggesting that I am crazy, but that suggestion itself may not be that crazy. And you bring up a great point is it’s interesting to approach a trade deadline trade deadline period when there is so much uncertainty as to what the power structure is going to be like three months down the road and that makes it weird. I am of the opinion I’ve said this before that my I suspect that Chris Core is going to be with the organization in one capacity or another. So, I think he’s going to be your point person as he would be whether he remains a GM or not as he would be at a GM uh at this time. Am I crazy for saying that? Um, no. I wouldn’t say no. I wouldn’t say crazy. I don’t know what happens to Chris Grim. Marvin Allen will still be there, the assistant GM, or perhaps he’ll steer perhaps he’s somebody that could run things. Uh, another scenario is if Mike McDaniel gets fired midseason and say Anthony Weaver takes over on an interim basis. I know can’t do that with the defense looking the way it does, right? I know. I know. I know. but he would be somebody who could be a potential head coach full-time candidate and and so maybe he could have some insight onto who goes and who stays if there’s a chance that he’s around next year. So there are some some scenarios. Yeah, but I agree with you. We’ve weave has pretty much taken himself out of the running because the defense has been a bigger disappointment than the offense. Yeah. And it’s not entirely his fault. And I don’t know what percentage you would put on it, but the personnel on defense is just not good enough. Uh, and the other part of it too is I don’t know. I’d have to look it up to confirm, but if you if he goes from Yeah. if if they make him interim head coach and then he leaves for for a head coaching job for with another team again with the way the Dolphin defense is is producing I think is his status as a head coach candidate around anyone in the NFL has taken a big hit uh but if you remember the rule where they’re going to get the Dolphins are going to get compensatory picks if he leaves from an assistant position to a head coach I think that goes I’m pretty sure that goes out the window if he becomes the interim head coach with the Dolphins which would be another reason wants not to promote him. That’s a good point. That’s a good point. Yeah, I don’t know the rule on that. That’s a very good point. I’ll say this about Weave. I think he would be a popular pick among players um to Yeah. to be an interim head coach. They really like him. They trust him. They believe in him. But, um the performance of his guys, I it’s uh it it would be hard to give him a promotion for what his units have shown. Well, his unit I run defense, pass defense, front seven, you know, that’s what I mean when I say his units. Yeah. And again, the the personnel isn’t up to par. And then making things worse is a lot of your bigname players have not performed. And hate to say it, but Zack Cer, I mean, what has happened to him? And this is where, and this was brought up at Mike McDaniel’s pre-practice press conference, is how much are the Dolphins missing KAS Campbell? And I I I kind of was on on the on the idea that Zach was doing a lot of this regardless of who was playing next to him, whether it was Christian Wilkins for three or four years and then Campbell last year. this year. He’s got rookies and unproven players or I should say mid players next to him and the production is like completely non-existent and can’t help but think how much of it is not having a stud next to him. That’s probably a big part of it. That probably is. So, um I I you know, he’s he’s got Bonito Jones next to him as a vet, and that’s pretty much I guess Matthew Butler also, but yeah, neither of those guys are anywhere near Christian Wilkins or or Kas Campbell. Yeah. And for those who bring up I think this brought up on social media like the Dolphins messed up by not resigning Kas Campbell. Um Chris Greer I because I asked Chris Greer if the Dolphins made an offer to Kles Campbell after he signed with Arizona how much of an effort they made to resign him and he said made offers plural and Campbell wound up going to Arizona. Campbell has not said anything other than it’s it felt right to go back to Arizona. He didn’t say anything about they made me a better offer. Chances are he’ll never say it. Maybe until when he’s done playing. I get the feeling that he was gone regardless that this was one wasn’t one of those deals where the Dolphins went too cheap on him and weren’t able to retain him. If I’m Kus Campbell, I might not be pissed at the Dolphins. I might not be resentful of the Dolphins, but I won’t forget that this team had me in handcuffs before the opener and they took away my chance to go somewhere at the trade deadline. Oh, you think he’s pissed about that? I I would remember it. I I mean I would remember it. I you know when when else has that happened in his Hall of Fame career might happen this year might happen this year the way Arizona’s going right now. He’s going to be in the same boat. But I don’t know that Arizona would say no no stay. We think we could make a run and be special. Right. And he hasn’t been in handcuffs out in Phoenix. Do we think though if Campbell because this is how and I think even Campbell himself said that. Um but then again Campbell is too classy. I don’t know if Campbell if he would have told McDaniel and Greer, can you get me out of here? And and the Dolphins had overruled him and went against his wishes and said, “No, we think we can make a run. We’re going to keep you.” I don’t know that Campbell, again, is a very very classy dude. I don’t know that he would reveal that to the media and say, “No, that they they fed me over.” I agree. He’s He’s too classy. Here’s a guy who knows how to keep things in house. I’m sorry. What? What? What? What? Sorry. What? That bad cough you got there, Perk. I hope it is. Yeah. I like that. Okay. It’s funny, too, because I’m as I’m looking on my screen over here because I get notifications for your stuff, my man. uh put the Sunso stuff all over here and the little line says and reveal as much or as little as you want because we want people to check it out at sunso.com. It says this era is descending into failure and it goes Chris Perkins the dolphins trio of GM Chris Ger coach Mike McDaniel and QB toango is close to s dot dot dot because that’s how much fits on my screen. So again reveal as much or as little as you want about your column and your premise. Well, you know, the the the the Mike McDaniel, Chris Greer, Tua Tonga Valoa era was full of promise, full of hope, full of expectation. And previously, what I had said about this era was that they have underachieved and disappointed. However, there’s a real chance that Mike McDaniel finishes as a 500 coach this season. His career record finishes at at 500. He is at um 29 and 28 right now. um if they finish 6 and 11 this season, which means going five and six the rest of the way, he finishes 34 and 34 as as a in four years as in regular season as a coach. Um here’s that that 500. Um Brian Flores had a 490 winning percentage. Adam Gase had a Can I interrupt one quick second? Yes. Yes. Yes. Okay. I’m going to point out that’s not fair because Brian Flores in his first year was handcuffed by a roster that was designed to lose and get that topic. So, no, you’re right. You’re right. But, uh, so Flores is 490. Um, Adam Gase 479, Tony Spirano 475, Joe Filman 462. For Adam, for for Mike McDaniel to be anywhere near those guys is a disappointment. If if if these guys if if he if these guys finish um say four and 13 this season which is an absolute disaster. Yeah. Mike McDaniel is 32 and 36 a 471 winning percentage and again uh Joe Filin at at 462. I mean that he you you can’t be in that era and that in in that company only over Joe Filman behind Flo behind Gase behind Spirano. That’s a failure. That is an absolute failure considering the talent and the expectations. They’re bordering on that. Um and I asked Mike McDaniel today in his press conference. I said, you know, you’ve got a 29 and 28 record. how would you kind of summarize the McDaniel era to this point? And he said, I’m not really into summarizing eras basically. Um, I’m focused on Cleveland and that’s fine. I I just wanted him to know what’s coming and, you know, don’t don’t be surprised if somebody tells you, hey, somebody wrote that your era is is close to a failure. So, you know, th this this era just so much promise and just turning into an an absolute disaster. So, I fleshed that out. That’s what’s in the column. Uh but I I at best it seems like he’s going to end as a mediocre Dolphins coach. And my segue to that is because you mentioned like it’s it’s turning into is that it’s kind of dramatic how much things have fallen off because at this time two years ago they were five- one. Yep. Coming off a 42-21 win against the Carolina Panthers during which they scored 35 straight points and they were like tied for the best record in the NFL. Yep. And now they’re the dre among the drags of the NFL. Um, and I wrote I wrote a a an analysis piece on Miami Dolphins onsi.com kind of basically documenting all the reasons why it went south so much. Uh, because it it is really drastic. And the the the depressing part about it is is if he does wind up in the 470ish, it’s like, man, we’re talking about like five straight coaches. It’s like, right, the variance between their winning percentage is like nothing. It’s like it’s everybody the same like a little bit below 500. It’s crazy. And then Mike McDaniel again is trying to accomplish something no Dolphin head coach has done since Dave Wanstead and that’s complete at least four full seasons as head coach. Nobody’s done that. And it’s like Philin was fired in in year four. Spirano was fired in year four. And it’s gonna same gonna happen to Mike McDaniel. And I pointed out before the season this parallel and I’m going to keep repeating it and hopefully in four years we’re now revisiting the same thing. If you have to make some sort of declaration at the end of the year why you’re keeping your head coach despite a lot of calls for his position probably you should make the move. Yep. Yep. Mike McDaniel since being nine and three in 2023 starting with that Tennessee loss they’re 11 and 18. a a clear line of delineation right there. Yep. No, it’s and it it that game’s amazing. It’s like because if you’re if you recall that game, there’s a game Tariq went out with a high ankle sprain early on. It’s 1313. The offense is doing nothing. Tennessee gives them two fumbles inside the 10 yard line. Boom. Boom. Two quick shot, two quick touchdowns. They were up 2713. Like four and a half minutes left. And you’re like like they’re going to get out of here without playing like crap. Tennessee is going to give him the game and then all of a sudden it just blows up. I mean it it’s it’s and the defense which had played fairly well up to that point all of a sudden has a complete collapse where they can’t cover anybody. I mean it was weird. Just weird. Yeah. Was Was Will Levice a rookie that season? I I was trying to draw you know they can’t lose to Dylan Gabriel another rookie on Sunday. That Will Levice loss. Was that his rookie year? Believe that was his rookie year. Yeah. Boy, you can’t lose to these rookie quarterbacks. So, yeah, they got to beat Dylan Gabriel on Sunday. The the two left-handed Hawaiian quarterbacks squaring off on Sunday, right? Yep. And both quarterbacks were asked about that, too. I was asked about that as well today. U said, and then Gabriel had said the same thing. They actually faced each other in high school or their schools faced each other. Uh both from Hawaii. Um two obviously I think may have been a senior at the time. Gabriel was a freshman and they’re two smaller quarterbacks, both lefty, both depend on their accuracy and all that. Um, there were was very nice in his comments about Gabriel who hasn’t necessarily looked great and an interesting subplot to this game. I I don’t I don’t know the the sentiment with Shadura Sanders. I don’t think I asked Daniel that specific question, but if the the Browns offense, which has been woof like this, uh if it’s struggling in the first half, first quarter, first two or three drives, is there going to be some sort of call from the fans to get Shador Sanders in there. And what a nice what an interesting storyline that would be, right? Oh boy, that would be that would be something. That would be something, man. Man, that would uh yeah, that you talking about something that would overshadow the game just much like Tua’s comments postgame Shadore it would be who cares who won Shadore played it. It would kind of turn into that nationally. No, no, without question. Um the the other part of it that Mike McDaniel touched upon and and props to Barry Jackson for pounding into the question and I also like I also like how we preface it that listen sorry Mike to do this to you but during the regular season we don’t get to talk to the GM so we have to ask you the personnel questions which is true Chris Greer will talk at the end of the season he’ll talk before the draft he’ll talk right after the draft and after the cut of 53 but during the season you don’t get him Um, and the question was, why didn’t you guys get reinforcements along the defensive line like early in the season as you could see that the run defense was going to be a problem? And it comes back to the obligatory. We want to see our young guys develop. We want to look, we’re looking for improvement. I may add as a caveat, I’m not sure that McDaniel would would say that, but is there anybody really out there who would represent a clear upgrade coming in? Probably not. We don’t know Christian Wilkins health with the foot uh or if Christian Wilkins would even come back here. You would think his buddy Zack Cer might be a reason to come back and the the fact that he played for this organization, but there could be hard feelings there. Who knows? Um you know, but yeah, I agree with you that that you know, I don’t think that there’s a a Pro Bowl defensive tackle out there who had knee surgery a year ago and and now he’s ready. So, yeah. And this this may be bad on my part, but generally speaking, it’s worked out to be a pretty good indicator. Look how you get the players and their kind of their pedigree to give you sort of an idea. And Benito Jones, the Dolphins got him last year. They resigned him as a free agent this year. They got him last year as a free agent after the Detroit Lions failed to simply extend the qualifying tender as an as an RFA. That tells you what obviously they didn’t think very much of him. Uh and then Matthew Butler, the Dolphins claimed him off waiverss from the Las Vegas Raiders this off season. Again, I say this as politely as possible. What can what do we what are we expecting? And then the other part of it, then you have three rookies to go along with that who you need to play because they need to get better. You certainly can’t throw in the towel on those guys. It’s not like you’re going to sit Kenneth Grant, you know, just the same as Jonas of AIA. It’s not like you’re going to sit him and go just watch because right now you’re not playing up up up to snuff. Obviously, you can get some surprises and there are certain organizations are better at than others at like getting squeezing a lot of juice out of players who don’t have that pedigree. But generally speaking, that’s a pretty good rule of thumb that your your better players either have established success somewhere else in the league or have come in generally speaking as as early draft picks. You were looking something up, Pera, as I was talking. Looks like Yeah. Yeah. I was I was trying to find something else on in one of my stories here, but uh it’s it’s not uh applicable. I was I was I was trying to see if I had written about this. I thought that I had mentioned something about um some some Dlinemen uh who they passed on in the off season, but uh I did not. I thought I had included it in a column. I’m trying to remember and I I I don’t recall. Just like like on the offensive line, there were some some decent names offensive guards, for example. I know I know Dalton Risers is somebody the Dolphins Dolphin fans really wanted for a while. Um was Brandon played for Butch Barry in Denver. Yeah. Right. Brandon Sheriff was another one who’s a big name. I think he wound up retiring so that took care of that. Um but I don’t think I don’t think there were any defensive players. I didn’t I thought that I had written about that but I didn’t. Um I didn’t. So Yeah, I think they’re they were just stuck with who they have. And for those who want to pin all of the run defense issues on the defensive line, and I think it’s probably fair to put a lot of it on there. Mike McDaniel made the point uh of of mentioning all the long runs that have come against the Dolphins. And when you get long runs, it’s not just the defensive line that’s not doing its job. It’s the backers and it’s the defensive backs as well. And yet, for those again who who like who subscribe to the the PF PFF grades or are big believers in PFF grades, Jordan Brooks and Tyrell Datson actually have decent grades except the run defense ain’t just a defensive line and tells me like that those linebackers are getting big tackle numbers. I don’t know that they’re making a whole lot of plays around the line of scrimmage as opposed to five yards downfield. So, um, not great. And I don’t and I don’t know that they have one great run defender in the secondary even though Russul Douglas had a really nice play against the Chargers on that third down run on Sunday. Yeah, tackling has been bad all throughout the defense at at all three levels. Dline, linebacker, secondary, all three levels. Bad tackling. Bad tackling. Bad tackling. Bad tackling. That’s right. Uh can’t think of anything else we need to touch on on this Wednesday. Um, we will be back at it on Thursday, which is coordinator day. We’ll also be getting two assistant coaches as well. Not sure which ones. Um, and then we’ll be back here to recap all of it. He is Chris Perkins from the South Floor Sunsel. Check out the column he wrote. It was very interesting. Uh, it’s at sunsel.com. Check out the written content at miam dophlphinssonsi.com. We have about six stories up today and they’re all really, really good. and free. And they’re free. Even better. Love that. How about me chiming in with that? Love that. As for the podcast, please like, subscribe, comment, share, all that good stuff. And if you didn’t catch again the Behind Enemy Lines with Daniel Oafusi, former Miami Herald, big reporter now with ESPN in Cleveland. Please check it out. Um, had some very interesting comments. And it was interesting, too, because I asked him, “You think what do you figure is more depressing than cover the Dolphins right now or the Browns?” And I made the point, I put him on the spot a little bit, that he this last season covering the Dolphins was 2023 and he left and it all went south. So blame him. He’s the one to blame. It’s his fault. There you go. Shador, baby. Shador. There you go. So on that note, that’s going to do it. Thanks everyone for watching. We’ll catch you guys later.

Tackling is fundamental and that's a reflection on coaching. š¬šš«”
Yeah going 500 with no playoff wins is a loser
Tua is weaker the ever for apologizing
McDaniel was exposed when the NFL cracked down on the cheat motion. His rosters were always thin, even back in 2023, so it was always going to be tough for him to rise above. But heās also his own worst enemy with his game management and leadership. Thatās because being an an HC is a long learning curve and he was OC for just one year when he was hired. It was never going to end well with how Grier handles personnel.
With all these .470 HCs, the Dolphins need to make a drastic move.. where are you Hue Jackson? (1-31-1 record with the Browns.)
Why isn't anybody trying to trade for tua?
Alain you and Omar no longer appear as guests on the Big O show. Is it due to contractional reasons. Or is the door open in the future for both of you to appear. Enjoy the podcast good job.
Nobody ever said nothing about tua saying waller was nice cause his a bigger reciver.. you thing we trade for bigger receivers we move the ball around
I've been a phins fan for 31 years..if Grier is still with us next year I'm done
Great podcast Perk and Perk
Waddle, chop Paul, Brewer and draft picks stay.. Achane and Mikah stay unless you get a number 1
There was no āpromiseā in this era. They never could hang with the good teams at any point and they were NEVER going to and never will win anything of significance with Tua as the franchise qb
This nonsense with Tuas comments is ridiculous. The play is the bad look. Tua can say whatever.
No he didnāt do well, we are giving him grace, he basically through it on the media, instead just completely owning it, but of course we will accept it but we all know what it really is, Tua canāt even do an apology correctly, this is a prime example of not enough proper wisdom in the locker room, we dnt have people that can groom men and as you all know that spot light requires a lot and it takes wise and experienced people to be at the head of that type life
That Tennessee game was the last time you had a DECENT o line and D line, we will always be below. 500 no matter the coach until a GM comes in and adequately addresses the trenches
Hey Perk! Letās not forget Tyreek Hill caused the whole issue with the handcuffs. To suggest C.C. Lest Miami because he was put in handcuffs is a stretch. Iām not absolving the police by no means. Letās keep your personal political views out of it. Love your column and show!
Poup! Use banners to summarize your talking points and display call to action
I doubt Tua has the locker room.. the team isn't going to pull a Tua and be honest about him. Tua blames the media now
It was the second half against Houston⦠dominating first half, second half we had to run Tua off the field. Since then we have not looked the same.
These two guys are boring
For Tua to be successful, everything must be successfulā¦the blocking, receiver timing etc. If one thing breaks down, he doesnāt have the legs or the arm to get out of it. Tua must be gone next year.
Pissed off Perk needs to lead the next players only meeting! š
Poup thanks for openly admitting that Flores was given a trash team his first year and McDaniel has had better talent to work with over his tenure.
Poup trading away Achane is actually a crazy idea. Any case being made to do so is also crazy and rooted in a bad philosophy. But itās your show so go right ahead. But itās a philosophy to remain mediocre forever. You can never fix the holes in your organization by creating a new hole to fix an old one. You guys are in the same think tank and a little too close to the same mindset of the organization. This is why the Dolphins canāt get out of purgatory. The Dolphins should start paying their best draft picks there second contract, even if it seems your overpaying. Stop getting desperate and overpaying diva free agent mercenaries. Flawed philosophyā¦.BAD BAD BAD!
Alain will you address the fact that the special teams have cost us 3 games this year?
I'm waiting for the stadium to look as empty as Chris Perkin's background picture shows every Sunday! Thanks to Grier and that infamous owner we have. The culprit of this entire debacle!
Don't see Storm Duck replacing either Jones or Douglas we're not talking about an all pro here
Jack Jones is garbage
Who cares what Tua says. The team sucks.
I say everyone is available for the right price we are going no where fast.
HE'S A FRAUD šš¾šš¾šš¾
I am still disappointed that you press guys canāt get Ross to answer why he keeps Chris Grier as GM. What has HE accomplished? What has Ross accomplished for the Dolphins fans?
Elaine Poophard. Heās the shit man
FIRE GREIR and the rest will followā¦. BTW Whoās facilitating trades? Our incompetent GM? Wonderful š¤¦āāļø Wake up Ross.
Tua's comments are nothing compared with the actual disaster the team is facing. Ross silence is much worst, and McD nonsensical press conferences are unpalatable.
If McD can't control the locker room somebody has to make it public if there's no change. Moreover Tua's poor performance is also much worst than his own comments. They only feed the press and journalists. The deep Dolphins issues remain with or without Tua's statements.
The shit man cometh

I really donāt like how weaver isnāt getting the same grace as McDaniel
His defense is totally different from last year which is evident but wen you look at his personnel you can see itās different
