šØJUST IN: Atlanta Falcons Release Ray-Ray McCloud III | Falcons News
Breaking news, Falcons fans. The Atlanta Falcons have officially released Ray Ray Mloud per the team. It is clear and obvious that in the last week and a half, problems have gotten so bad that the Falcons felt like they could not move forward with the 2025 season with him on the roster. Welcome in Falcons fans to Falcons today by Chat Sports. My name is Moose and remember, every single bit of breaking news I’m covering right here on the channel, including every time a player gets released, seemingly out of nowhere. And when I say out of nowhere, I mean, this was not something that we thought was going to happen even 3 weeks ago after the Carolina Panthers game. And speaking of, let’s go back a little bit in time. Let’s talk a little bit about Ray Ray and kind of the events transpiring to this exact moment. So, there were some whispers, right, that Ray Ray and other team members were also very very upset about the Ike Hilliard firing. Now, I was the one of them that or one of the only Falcons content creators that was like I I can’t blame them for being angry at a move that felt kind of like a scapegoat firing. Now, it is clear that since that firing, you’ve had some more and better offensive production. Granted, it is not perfect. Very far from it. But TJ has done a pretty decent job taking over the wide receivers. Uh Drake London’s had a couple of big games as we get Darnell Mooney back. Uh he’s slipped Bejian Robinson out there to use as another weapon. I really do believe I look at this and I say the one that the one player that had a major major problem with the Ike Hillier firing seemed to be Ray Ray Mloud. Now I do want to start by saying it’s not some great loss, right? The sky is not falling because you released Ray Ray Mloud. His numbers, his production, his output, and basically his overall attitude kind of prove that he only played in four games. He got 14 targets, six receptions for 64 yards. Look, I’d be frustrated too if my production if my numbers looked like that. He’s an NFL veteran that’s looking to get another contract, wants to play for a team where he feels like he can utilize his skill set. But, you know, with the Falcons, he actually posted up one of the best seasons of his entire NFL career. Now, like I said, there were rumors that Ray Ray hated the Iillyard firing, but that’s no neither confirmed nor denied. In fact, the question was asked to Raheem Morris about uh the kicking him out of practice, right? So they said, “Hey, when you kicked Ray Ray Mloud out of practice, was this because of the I Hillyard firing?” And Raheem was emphatic that it was not. He said, “Nope, this is a football problem between me and him, between us and the coaches, and uh we’re going to try and get it figured out.” However, he never denied that Ray Ray didn’t like the move. He just said that kicking him out of practice was not because of Ike Hillard. Does that make sense? So, if the rumors are getting out there that he absolutely hated the move, that started the spark that caused the rift. Now, you can clearly see that everything that’s transpired since that moment has definitely not worked in Ray Ray’s favor. So, what do we know? We know that he’s a non-factor in the passing game as evidenced by the statistics that you just saw. He had a diminished role on special teams as Jamal Agnu and guys like Natron Brooks were taking back punts. In fact, I believe he only had two total punt returns this entire season. He started missing blocking assignments, which, you know, look, you could be a bad blocker, but there’s a huge difference between I’m not good at blocking and I’m not trying to block. And every Falcons fan that I’ve talked to has the exact same consensus that he did not want to block. This was an effort problem. And this, of course, all leads to the fact that he got kicked out of practice. So he goes from a healthy scratch in the Bills game where Darnell Mooney is already out, then gets kicked out of practice the next week, another healthy scratch against the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday Night Football, and boom, here we are on Tuesday. The Falcons have released him. So clearly the rift between Ray Ray and the coaching staff was something that just could not be fixed. And I believe there is a bit of truth in absolutely everything. The first bit of truth here is that I’m sure Ray Ray wanted a bigger role in the offense. Well, the truth is he’s not going to get it with how well Bejan is playing. With the emergence of Casey Washington, who the coaches love, by the way, with Drake London being your number one and Kyle Pittz having a really good game against the San Francisco 49ers, it’s clear that Ray Ray’s share of the targets was not going to change. It was still going to be like you’re a borderline fourth option, maybe fifth option for us. But here’s what I also will say. You don’t need the distraction that Ray Ray provided. You don’t need that negativity. If he was bitching and moaning about the Iillyard firing, if he was bitching and moaning about his role on the offense and he wasn’t trying, and there’s other rumors out here about off-the- field issues that I’m not going to get into cuz I don’t know, and I’m not going to speculate on something that I don’t know. But I do know this. There were clear problems. So much so that your coach kicks you out of practice. These are grown men, by the way, grown adults. If it was just an X’s and O’s thing, he wouldn’t have gotten kicked out of practice. They would have sat down like adults and hammered it out. So clearly, there has been at least some attitude enough to the point where Raheem says, “I’m going to kick another grown man out of another grown man’s practice.” I mean, just like sometimes you got to simplify it. That’s all I know. I also know that his dead cap hit is nothing. Is less than $500,000. So, the Falcons don’t really take on anything significant. So, he’s not a big time cap hit. He wasn’t that big of a factor in the the passing game. He wasn’t doing anything on special teams. He had a bad attitude. Missing blocking assignments. 2 plus two plus two plus two equals what? Eight at that point. Like I’m not a mathematician, but you don’t need to be a rocket scientist either to figure out the writing was on the wall. So again, I’m not super upset about this. In fact, I believe that there is some optimism to this story now that the Falcons can look forward with a clear head and a clear vision surrounding the wide receiver position. But before we get into that, I’m going to ask you, do you support the releasing of Ray Ray Mloud? Yes or no? I’m going to say yes from the perspective of it’s not that I didn’t like him as a player or a guy. It’s so much so that if the Falcons felt like this was the only move they could have made because of the distraction, then I’m fully on board with that. Let me know in the comment section down below. So, like I said, coming up, what does this signify? What’s next for the Dirty Birds? I believe that this could indicate a future move coming for the Atlanta Falcons. Now, before I get into what that move could be, I got to tell you about our friends over at Factor. Fall is back, my friends. And that means busier schedules. Um Morris was asked multiple times over the last week about this situation and he kept kind of giving the same answer. It’s like we’re going to talk to him. I’m going to figure it out with him. It’s really just between me and him. So clearly since Sunday night when he was last asked about it to now today, he has met in some capacity with Ray Ray Mloud. And it’s also clear he wasn’t going to put up with the BS. There was going to be no that he was going to be putting up with. It’s either you accept your role on this team, you find your role, you play football, or you don’t. And clearly, he didn’t didn’t want to put up with it. Both sides. And look, that’s fine. You can mutually part ways. However, now this signifies to me, we need a wide receiver. We want a wide receiver because let me paint you a picture real quick. If I told you that you were rolling with Drake London as your number one, that’s a really good sign. But you were dealing with your number two Darnell Mooney completely banged up trying to get back healthy. Your number three on the depth chart was Ray Ray Mloud. If you’re releasing your wide receiver three with a wide receiver deficit problem, you clearly now are saying, “Hey, we’re open for business. We’re open for business.” Because if it really was that big of a need, if you weren’t willing to part ways, if you were like, “Hey, we’re good with what we got.” You wouldn’t have gotten rid of him. You would have just said, “Hey, we’re going to deal with it. we’ll find him. We’ll do whatever. So, how do you get a wide receiver? You either trade for one before the deadline, which is coming up in two weeks. So, you got two weeks to make a move, or you sign an NFL free agent. Now, I’ve got an entire video coming out for you tomorrow about wide receiver trades uh that you could make. Believe it or not, it was the video that we were scripting before we got the Ray Ray news. And producer Reed’s nodding his head right now. So, that’ll be something we get to tomorrow. But Tyler Lockett seems to be one of those free agents that you could now go out if you wanted a super cheap team-friendly rental option. He was released just yesterday by the Tennessee Titans. Now, Tyler Lockett, I’m not going to front with you, he’s not the same player that he was when he was in Seattle. However, I don’t think he’s as bad as what he has shown this year with the Tennessee Titans. They are mega booty ass cheeks. I mean, it’s really, really bad. But here’s what Yahoo Sports said about Tyler Lockett’s release. Lockett’s 2025 numbers, 10 catches for 70 yards, won’t wow anybody, but his 2024 production with the Seahawks. 600 yards, two touchdowns might intrigue teams needing depth at the position, aka the Atlanta Falcons. Lockett is a Seahawks legend, and we imagine he’d love to join a team where he could chase a Super Bowl. The Falcons are kind of like right in that middle tier. Like, should they be a playoff team? Yes. If they continue to make those bad decisions, then probably not. But they do go on to say that plenty of teams could use somebody with Lockett’s body of work as they enter the second half of the season. So let’s not talk about the 2025 season, right? Because I mean it’s it’s bad. It’s it’s booty as Bri just did. Just a it’s the blow the raspberry. So let’s look at the last time he was on a competent football team. Well, in 2024 in 17 games played with the emergence of Jackson Smith and Jigba, you still had DK Metaf. He still managed to find 600 yards through the air. He is a certified very, very productive slot wide receiver. Now, is this a player that I believe could go out and get you a thousand yards? Probably not. But given the fact that you still have half a season left, could he get you 400 or 500 yards and find the end zone a couple of times? Sure. Could he also be a necessary distraction and decoy for the likes of Darnell Mooney and Drake London to get open? Could you imagine if you just said out loud, we replaced Ray Ray Mloud with Tyler Lockett as that wide receiver three. I think it makes perfect sense. I really do. And it’s a very cheap option. He’s released by the Titans. So now you can go out sign him for whatever you know you see fit. And if Tyler Lockett is the ideal candidate, which let’s be honest, if if you were asking me like from a holistic approach, like would you rather have a guy like Calvin Ridley or would you rather have a guy like Tyler Lockett? Well, the answer is obvious, right? Lockett’s not the greatest talent, but he is a reliable slot receiver that can fill the Ray Ray role. So, if you wanted to go cheap, if you didn’t want to break the bank or get rid of any draft capital, Lockett could be the perfect fit. So, I’m going to ask you before we get on out of here. Would you sign Tyler Lockett? Type S for sign, type P for pass. Look, with the Ray Ray sized hole now, which I’m not going to lie to you, isn’t that big to begin with, Lockett could be a very, very easy and smooth replacement for the remainder of the 2025 season. And then, depending on how he performs, you can give him another one or two-year extension and just see how it goes. If not, see you. Thanks for, you know, helping out and good luck with your next team. That’s going to do it for us on today’s episode. A reminder that every time there’s breaking news, we cover it. So who will be replacing him? Whoās going in for Deoblo? Because itās Bertrand canāt produce š¤¦š¾āāļø
Moose I got my alerts turned on for you šš I caught this literally a minute after you posted
He is a distraction. Team needs to extremely focused right now.
Move Pitts or Mooney to the slot
This team is a mess right now. Raheem needs to start earning his check.
Yes
Donāt hate it
I hate this moveš” Raheem Morris and rest of the coaching staff needs to be fired
Yes. Because it leads to conduct detrimental issues, which could spread throughout the locker room.
BROOO he singed my hat at the viking game š
Team needs to get it together and faster. Rah is a sorry excuse for a coach in my opinion his coaching style is definitely a game manager
S
Ray Ray apparently has had an issue for a long time and used the Ike Hilliard situation to blow the whole thing up.
Question: is Penix really a good QB for the future of the franchise?
S
S
Yes I dio
I saw his skill set last season. He created separation consistently,n was a good player. Just seems like a different player this season. Can't have distractions,so I support it.
Sign Tyler Lockett
Am I the only one frothing at the mouth to get Calvin Ridley back in ATL?! Heās still a dog, he just hasnāt had a team around him to want to try.
I been knew ray ray was gone! When i first hewrdthis situation
Whattt! Whyyyy!
S
YĆS! GOOD ATTITUDE IS PARAMOUNT
So Ray-Ray gone, Ike Hilard gone, but Zac still has a job
He went Antonio Brown on them
Hes about as mid as it gets. Hes a KR at best. This team.isnt serious eith Zac robinson. Ill wait for next season when mike mcdaniel is our OC and brings waddle over with him
TYLER LOCKETT WOULD BE A SOLID MOVE IF HE COULD BE HAD FOR THE RIGHT MONEY!š
Nick Nash time?
Isn't not using him for SOME kind of trade value just a waste though?
If he had an attitude about a firing ā he had his head in the wrong part of the business ā your contract is to perform at the position you signed up for ā control what you can co tell ā I liked him but am not bother with his release. āNoā.
I need the Waddle Celebrations in the Benz on sunday's.
Yes releasing Ray Ray to signing WR Tyler Lockett who got released by Titans
Heres what i know. Ray Ray got separation. None of the 3rd receivers can get separation.
Yes
Yes, Drake London blocks so i dont wanna hear it
Falcon fans deserve to know what happened. If itās not a personal matter, which it sounds like itās not, then transparency is important.
So it must have been bad enough that they could not even tag him to an up coming move / trade for another WR. So he is so toxic ( Hate using that word ) that he was not even good trade bait to add to a deal. Will be waiting to see who picks him up or he could just be done with the NFL because he burnt so many bridges, his what 29? .. kinda getting old to be hard to work with.
Veterans can become a distraction and tear up a clubhouse. The young players play hard and want to win unless some veteran go negative and take them down too.
letās not forget, although last year he had a career yards in regards to receiving yards, catches & TDās, his role as a WR only expanded due to rondale moore being hurt all of last season. i donāt think he was ever going to be used in that way if moore doesnāt get hurt.
Ray ray was a DAWG. Sad to see him go but respect the decision
S
Ray Ray may have not liked blocking, understandable. But we often put out personnel and running outside zone on his side of the field, and expect him to be great at it. Might as well kept Mack Hollins.
Just havent seen competent OC's since Kyle and Matt Ryan Era. Raheem gotta go. Dont forget the holding on of Jimmy Lake too long.
yes
If youāre not professional, gtfo. I donāt care who you are. This is a professional sports league of grown men. Act like one
