MAJOR Vikings Injury News + Chargers Preview, Injury Report, Analysis & Prediction | NFL Week 8
[Music] What’s going on everybody? You are watching Vikings now by chat sports. My name is Patrick Seman and coming up on today’s show we have our official week eight preview as the Minnesota Vikings are traveling to Los Angeles to take on Jim Harbaugh, Justin Herbert, and the Los Angeles Chargers. So, coming up, we’re going to discuss who the hell is starting at quarterback for the Minnesota Vikings. We still have no official word at the time of filming this preview. So, we’ll dive into my thoughts. Should it be JJ? Should it be Wen? Should it be even Max Brosmer? I’ll give you guys my full in-depth thoughts there. And then also deep diving into the Chargers. A very polarizing team. Came out this season very hot. Playing some really good football, but have struggled as of late. And then with the Vikings, had a pretty disappointing performance against the Philadelphia Eagles. I do want to dive into some of their biggest issues. And then we do have the injury news um from both teams. And at the end, I’ll give you guys my score prediction at the very end of today’s show. But hey, Vikes are three and three. You got a chance to move to 4 and three here. So, if you guys want the Vikings to beat the Chargers this Thursday night, go down there, hit that thumbs up icon. I put today’s goal as 750 likes. So, if you guys could help us out, it also gets this video out to more NFL Vikings and Chargers fans. So, go down there, hit that thumbs up icon. Also, if you want my voice to get back to 100%, hit that thumbs up icon as well. All right. So, who is starting at quarterback for the Minnesota Vikings this Thursday? Well, Adam Shfter uh on Monday gave some insight on what he believes is going to happen for this Thursday night game is what Sheffy had to say, saying my understanding is with Carson Wentz and JJ. The Vikings play a short week this week. They have the Chargers this week. I would expect we get Carson Wentz on Thursday night. I was told there’s a chance that JJ McCarthy would be ready for the week after at Detroit. Again, I think if Carson Wentz comes back and plays well and they win the game Thursday night, maybe that buys JJ another week. If not, then I think JJ could be back as soon as the week in Detroit. Now, I think for the Vikings side of things, especially at the quarterback position, there is absolutely no reason to play Carson Wentz against the Los Angeles Chargers. I have seen enough. I can’t deal with another week of Carson Wentz playing football for this offense. He was that bad against the Philadelphia Eagles. I mean, going back and watching the all 22 version of the quarterback play, he was just missing wideopen touchdowns. He was incredibly inaccurate on some big-time throws where I honestly was looking at his uh at his plan. I was saying to myself, I feel like there are 45 quarterbacks in the world right now who have could or who could have won that game for the Minnesota Vikings. And you will never win a big game with Wentz. And that’s what this Thursday night is. This is a big time spot. You’re on the road short week. You’re three and three. Your backs are against the wall. you will never win a big-time game with Carson Wentz. So, might as well go to JJ McCarthy. And if JJ McCarthy, let’s just say that ankle injury is as serious as they’re leading on, then go to Max Brosmer. What do you have to lose? You don’t have a true franchise quarterback yet, might as well try to find the answer to that question because we all know what Carson Wentz is. We know his downsides. We know his negative play. It can really derail an offense. So, even if JJ McCarthy can’t play this Thursday, I am going to Max Bromer because Max uh Bromer to give him credit, he looked pretty good during the preseason. He at least looked like he could um per or he looked like he could perform with this Vikings offense at a somewhat high enough level where I think it would be better than what we have seen from Wentz over the last couple weeks. And again, I can’t do another week with Wentz. It was so frustrating going back and watching that Eagles game because even though Jaylen Herz was absolutely fantastic. I mean, he had a perfect passer rating. 158.3. He was absolutely amazing in that game, but the Vikings should have won that game. They had every reason to win that game. I actually thought Kevin Oonnell, even though he got away from the run game a little too much in that spot, I actually thought he called a beautiful game. I mean, some of his play designs are just literally handing their uh his quarterback just walk-in touchdowns and W just couldn’t get it done. So, even if JJ McCarthy, if he can’t go, I’m willing to go to the UDFA out of Minnesota, Max Bromer in this spot. But you guys want to know your thoughts. Pick a QB for me. Are you rolling out with JJ McCarthy, which I also will say if JJ is 75, 80%, I’m still rolling with number nine. You have to play this kid. But I’m no matter what not playing Carson Wentz. So you guys let me know. Pick a QB for me. Give me a nine for JJ, an 11 for Wentz. Or if you’re rolling with the UDFA out of Minnesota, give me a 12 for Max Brosman. All right, let’s talk about the Los Angeles Chargers here because like I was saying at the top of the show, they’ve been a very streaky team. Now, they started off this season with a complete statement win against the Kansas City Chiefs. That was that Brazil game on Friday. They ended up winning that matchup 27 to 21. Fouled that up on the road against the Las Vegas Raiders, winning that one 20 to9. Had a huge win against the Denver Broncos in week three, 23 to 20. Justin Herbert was absolutely fantastic in that game. He had a couple of big time big time throws in that one. So, he, you know, he’s just been amazing this season, even though he did not look too good against the Colts, but then they ended up losing uh week four against the New York Giants, ended up losing to the Commanders, barely squeaked out a win against the Dolphins, and this past week against the Colts, their defense got absolutely gashed. So, you know, the last four weeks, they’ve not been a good football team. Makes a record on the season uh four and three, but offensively with Justin Herbert, they still have a very good offense. Like, they will be able to generate yards. They will be able to generate points. They’re second in the league in yards per game, third in the league in pass yards per game. Hasn’t been the same rushing team as they were, you know, last year under Jim Harbaugh, but a big reason for that was uh, you know, Marian Hampton getting hurt. Also, Naji Harris. Uh, now they have Videl playing at the running back spot. So, they haven’t been able to run the ball as consistently, but they’re still a good offense. I mean, third down percentage, that is a Justin Herbert stat right there, fourth in the league. And Herbert’s been amazing this season. Now, he did have a down game against the Indianapolis Colts. He’s had some streaky play. Um, but when this guy is hot, when this guy’s quick, he is truly one of the most talented quarterbacks, you know, we have ever seen. Um, in seven games this season, 13 touchdowns, six interceptions, already throwing for almost 2,000 yards in seven games, which is absolutely ridiculous. Has that dual threat ability. He can break sacks. He can just be a playmaker. And, you know, Justin Herbert is truly one of those guys where he has the ability to single-handedly win the Chargers any game verse anyone. If Justin Herbert plays his A+ game, I’m just going to be honest with you guys, there’s probably not a good chance the Vikings can go out there and beat the Chargers on Thursday night because even if it is, you know, McCarthy playing at quarterback, even if it’s Max Broman at quarter uh quarterback and especially if it’s Carson Wentz at quarterback, they can’t go toe- fortoe with Justin Herbert if he is playing his A+ game. So, it’s going to be a huge test for Brian Flores and this defense where they need where they need to bounce back from getting absolutely gashed by Jaylen Herz. So, watch out for Justin Herbert. He is an absolute animal. Now, if we get a bad Justin Herbert game, hopefully end up winning that one. But when he is clicking on all cylinders, playing his A+ game, this guy’s tough to spot uh tough to stop, but Chargers defensively about middle of the pack this season. Now, they are probably going to get Cle Mack uh Cleo Mack back in this game, which will obviously help them defensively, but you know, they haven’t been playing, you know, up to that Jim Harbaugh standard, I would say, so far this season. 13th in yards per game, eighth in pass yards per game, 19th against a run. So, hey, another opportunity to run the football on the road, which you’re going to need to do, and then they’re 18th scoring uh in the NFL this season. But I do think this is incredibly tough spot for the Vikings because, you know, the Eagles, very physical football team. Now, you’re playing another physical football team, the Chargers. Then the week after you’re in Detroit playing another physical football team. This is a tough spot. Short week, you have still a question mark around the quarterback position. And then you have to travel to go play the Los Angeles Chargers, Jim Harbaugh, Justin Herbert. This is a tough spot for the Minnesota Vikings. Not really feeling too good about this game, but again, anything can happen in the NFL and there is such a difference of getting a win and a loss in this game. You move to three and four, I mean, you can pretty much kiss your playoff chances goodbye. But if you move to four and three, can somehow scrap together maybe nine 10 wins on the season, maybe sneak into the playoffs, but it starts this week against the Chargers. Big- time spot, but it is a tough spot for this Vikings team. But you guys get your score predictions down below in the comments section for me. I’ll give you guys mine here in a second. So, after going back and watching the All 22 version of the Vikings Eagles game, I just want to dive into, you know, five big issues I have with this team. And there’s no doubt the biggest issue the Vikings had against the Eagles, it was the quarterback play. After going back and watching it, there was maybe about 45 quarterbacks on the planet right now that could have won this game for the Minnesota Vikings. Carson Wentz, yes, he threw for 300 yards. Yes, he had some big-time plays, you know, late in that game. I I do appreciate Wentz’s toughness, but he just wasn’t good enough. He was flat out terrible in big time spots. Also, in the red zone, this guy was bad. I mean, he missed a wideopen touchdown to CJ Ham, missed a wideopen touchdown to Jordan Addison. He on a couple of throws to Justin Jefferson, especially late in that game. He’s not even giving 18 a chance to go make a play on the football. Like I just don’t understand why Kevin Okano why he’s not just saying, “Hey, clearly we can’t win with Wentz. Let’s just go the Brosmer. Let’s go to JJ McCarthy.” So the consistent quarterback play that’s definitely been one of the Vikings biggest issues in and even stems back to like the Steelers and Browns game. Like that Browns game, he was terrible until that last drive, the Steelers game. He was terrible for majority of the game. So he’s got to be more consistent. Maybe you get that with a guy like Bax Bromer who, you know, KOC, he has raved about him being a great, you know, preparation quarterback. He’s a great processor. He can get the ball out quick and on time. Maybe you go to a guy like that over Wentz because, you know, he just can continue to shoot this team in the foot. And, you know, another big issue, obviously, the run game. Um, and this is probably the only gripe I have with Kevin Okconor from the Eagles game. You know, we talk about Carson Wentz being an absolute disaster. Well, how about you don’t have him throw the ball 42 times? Because yes, you were down in that game early, but it’s not like you were down 21-3, 24-3 where you’re down three possessions. You were mostly down two possessions in that game and he just completely got away from the run where you had four of your five starting offensive linemen out there. You got Christian Darasol, one of the best left tackles, Brian O’Neal, a guy at Donovan Jackson who you spent a first round pick on, a guy in Will Fry who you gave $88 million, and a guy in Jordan Mason who I still think is one of the most underappreciated, undervalued running backs in the league. and you don’t stay with the run game. I’m tired of seeing Xavier Scott. I don’t think he should get too much more run. He just doesn’t really have too much juice, especially after watching the film. He was just missing wide openen running lanes. But stay more committed to the run, especially on the road. Whoever isn’t at quarterback, that’s how you help kind of slow the game down, get them in more advantageous spots, especially on third down. So, the run game definitely an issue. And then the self-inflicted wounds. I mean, listen, I I think the Vikings end up getting, you know, chipped on a couple of big time calls in that Eagles game. I mean, the holding call on Brandell, it it was one of the worst holding calls I’ve ever seen. I mean, he swipes down on his hands. That is never called a a hold in the National Football League. I can’t believe they called that. Um, but the Vikings pre- snap penalties still an issue. Like, obviously the self-inflicted wounds, that also goes back to the quarterback play. When your head coach and your offensive coordinator is dialing up wide open touchdowns, you got to be able to hit them. And when you don’t, you’re going to lose a lot of football games. And it also ties into the red zone and third down efficiency. The Vikings this season is one of the like they’re one of the worst third down offenses. And also in the red zone, you go there six times against the Eagles. You score one touchdown, you are not going to win a lot of games like that, especially when you lose the turnover battles. So that needs to be for sure cleared up this weekend or this week, but you’re no doubt going to lose to the Chargers. And also defensively, got to limit the big plays. And I think that was the biggest reason why you um you know gave up as many yards and as many points as you did against the Eagles. But that even goes back to like the Steelers like DK Mechaf having that one big time play um even earlier on this season like the Falcons like Bejian ripping off some big time runs like this defense is still very very good. They just need to be better limiting the big plays and having Andrew Van Genko back maybe this week should help that. But he also popped up as limited again on the injury report. Still dealing with that neck injury. Now something that’s interesting for the quarterback position here. Wentz was limited last week. He was full participant the entire time. So JJ still limited but concerning Brian O’Neal DMP. Now I think that’s just mainly um just trying to play it safe with him. I mean sprained MCL for a veteran. He doesn’t need the practice leading up to the game. But CJ Ham also with a head injury. Donovan Jackson in full, T in full. So that’s good there. But big injury news for Andrew Van Ginkle. If he can go this weekend, that’ll be huge for the team. But on the Chargers front, you know, Joe Wall, one of the best tackles in the league. He’s limited. I’m fully expecting him to be out there and ready to go. Um should get Khil Mack. Um he’ll also probably be out there this week, but you know, Chargers are getting healthy. I think they’re a good football team still, even though they have been playing like that over the last couple weeks. And I’m going to predict the Vikings lose this one. I think they’re going to drop this game 24 to 20 to the Los Angeles Chargers. And I I just think it’s a tough spot. And especially like no matter who’s in at quarterback, even if it’s Brosmer, even if it’s a McCarthy, like can they go toe-to-toe with Justin Herbert? That’s going to be tough. like because Herbert had this Chargers offense. Even though I still think the Vikings defense is very high level, still one of the better ones in the league. It’s just going to be tough to limit this Chargers um offense to less than 24 points. So, I think they’ll get to 24. I think the Vikings, it’ll be kind of more the same as it was last week. I think they’re not going to be too successful in the red zone. So, maybe I’m trying to just to jinx the Vikings here, predict a loss, they end up winning, but I got the Chargers winning 24 to 20 in this game. And if you guys made it to the end, we appreciate you. Hit me with a score down below in the comments section. Um, it’s going to be a fun game. Adam Schefter on the Vikings QB situation:
“My understanding is with Carson Wentz and J.J., the Vikings play a short week this week. They have the Chargers this week. I would expect that we get Carson Wentz on Thursday night. I was told there’s a chance that J.J. McCarthy would be ready for the week after, at Detroit. Again, I think if Carson Wentz comes back and plays well and they win the game Thursday night, maybe that buys J.J. another week. If not, then I think J.J. could be back as soon as that week in Detroit.”

I say roll with Brosmer.
It’s Wentz. 😂
Wentz was just announced the starter
As a die hard Vikings fan this is gonna happen we're gonna have ups and downs but I trust this team and organization. This so far from over and I have a feeling will be back and better then ever skol Vikings a for life baby💜😈
NFL is a FRAUD 🖕
We can't draft worth a FUCK

Watching Wentz last week was like walking into a dealership and saying yup…I want to make payments for 7 years on that Kia Soul over there.
9 For sure!
SKOL
SKOL for life!
Well they announced Wentz starting. That is just plain stupid. Wentz should be benched and never allowed off the bench unless there is absolutely no other choice. Play Brosmer if
JJ is not ready.
You’re getting Wentz again! Vikings aren’t confident in max. It’s official. 3-4
9 or 12
12 all day.! He can get the ball out. JJ is not ready. Wentz holds onto the ball too long.
They are not going to play Brosmer though. They are going to play Wentz.
Wentz is playing because McCarthy sucks and is NOT ready to be a starting QB in this league! I want to see McCarthy play about as much as Mike Zimmer wants to see Kellen Mond play!!!!
12
I’d rather have KOC play QB than Wentz!! Brosmer should play at least then we know what he can do! Then play JJ when he’s at full strength just not Carson please!!! 😂
12 Max Brosner
Stop blaming Wentz, they lost because the defense gave up too many 3rd and longs. They literally gave up 304 yards and 4 TDs to 2 players! That's why they lost! McCarthy sucks he will NEVER be a starting QB in this league that's why Wentz is still starting!!
I'll be back here when the Vikings dominate Thursday
Chargers 40 Vikings 3
