Matisse Thybulle on Excitement to Play, Recovery, and the Blazers’ Fast-Paced Offense
So, Matis, just your your thoughts on uh getting out and playing tomorrow for opening night, particularly uh after having a missed a little bit of training camp. I imagine you’re you’re probably enthusiastic to get back out there. Yeah, I mean, I think everyone’s excited like once preseason’s fun and it’s like a good opportunity to like experiment and try things, but these ones count. And so, I think I speak for everyone when I say we’re all excited and we all just want to get out there and win. Where’d you feeling your body at? Like Johny said, you pretty much done everything. How you feeling? Good. Good. Now it’s just trying to catch up with these guys. I We’re playing a really fast pace of basketball this year. So just trying to get used to that and every day I get more reps at it. It gets easier. You sort of a game time decision more or how would you evaluate your status? I don’t evaluate my status. Was there like a bit of a feeling when you were dealing with some of these injuries in preseason about like here we go again or like did it mess with your mindset at all? I mean yeah I’m a human being. It’s it’s miserable. like you don’t like a basketball player that can’t play basketball is not really a happy person. So, it was frustrating, but pivoting to just dealing with the problem at hand and taking care of that is the best use of my time. So, now I’m strong and I’m ready and I’ll be able to play. How do you feel like the you mentioned the kind of new style of play and trying to run faster and be faster. How do you feel like that that works for you and your game and and what you bring to the team? Um, I mean, I’m pretty fast. Yeah. it. Yeah, I think it’s a good thing. I think it just um creates more variability on offense as far as like who’s going to be attacking and and where we’re attacking from. And I think a lot of guys who, myself included, have a tendency of getting stuck um in certain parts of the court in the half court. Being so quick in transition is going to open it up for just like more opportunity to to to make plays. And what does that do for you defensively as well? because I mean if the game is faster, I know that you’re typically a guy who likes to play the passing lanes and kind of play that style. Yeah, I mean there’s been a huge point of emphasis in role change. Just switching from offense, defense, defense, offense. And having everyone on that page, I think just creates a lot more opportunity for when we do get a rebound and a kick out or a deflection and a steal and just being able to capitalize on those opportunities more. Obviously, playing at that speed, you need a lot of depth and that is something you guys have. How would you describe the depth and and how you can use that to your advantage? Um, I mean the NBA’s always kind of been the next man up and I mean I think Chanty’s philosophy this year is going to be like play fast, sub, and just keep bodies moving. And so just creates a lot more opportunity for guys to get out there and contribute to us winning. Guess it kind of keeps everybody locked in more, huh? Not that you’re not normally, but you have to be pretty engaged cuz you never know when you’re going back. Yeah, I mean I think that’s always the case and you you see it all the time like someone gets hurt and you no one plans for that and now you got to be ready to play. I think that’s just part of being professional.

If matisse can play basically a full season and shoot decently he could be very nice for this team
This guy is very underrated. He made the all defensive second team in his second year in the league. If he's healthy, he's gonna be a major factor off the bench for Portland. He creates more length and another defensive stopper.
Weird to see him without the fro!
We've missed you, buddy
You can't spell Matisse without miss ๐ข
Is he finally going to play tomorrow? One take I got from preseason is our bench depth is almost nonexistent
