  1. It’s a popular belief that the chant origin has to do with the Jags when it’s that’s not true. It’s a pride thing. Jacksonville naturally the underdog in itself, and when we chant it it’s basically saying “I’m from proud to be from Jacksonville, even though we don’t get a lot of credit”
But it’s no surprise that a lot of people including locals think the jags started it since they’re the ones who popularized it.
    But this is cool history.

  2. Ok so I am clueless who is the guy interviewing him dressed up as a Jag? He sounds British but I have never seen him before.

  3. Yeah if you listened to 92.7 back in the 90s you knew this. We were yelling Duuuuval in the clubs all over Florida back then.

Damn I wish he would have trade marked this chant to make sure he got the proper credit

  4. I grew up in Pcola and my first exposure to the chant was at an MC Chris concert in ‘09 lol.

Whole Wheat Bread opened for him and started their show with the chant. It was wild to move to Jax years later and see that the Jags use the chant that I thought Whole Wheat Bread made up.

  5. It pains me that there are so many amazing jags fans that have been die hard for so long, yet this random British dude gets chosen to be “Captian Duval” when he has nothing to do with the Jags. Reeks of industry plant.

  6. I remember going to the Grad Night at Disney World, and that would have been around April of 2000, and being a school from Jacksonville, we were definitely loudly chanting “Duuuuuuvaaaaalll” anytime we were in a line for a ride with a school from another city. So, as far as where we got it, not 100% sure, but it definitely was a popular chant amongst high schoolers way before it was ever used in an NFL game by the fans.

  7. I’ve told this story before in here, but in case some missed it, Duval chant originated in what was a very popular local night club called Cool Runnings. The DJ was a guy named Bigga Rankin & radio dj Eazy E was a regular guest, & would get the crowd hype along w/ Bigga on stage & on the mic.

The club was a very popular night spot not just in Jax, but it would bring in people from all over FL & South Ga. Amongst the droves of people who’d frequent the club, was a faction of individuals representing Miami, or how they like to say, Dade County. Bigga Rankin would play a song & shout out the Dade county people, & then he’d play the song that would shout out the Jax people, & the whole crowd would just erupt & chanting in unison…. DUVAL!

Eazy E would then also use this in his nightly radio show to liven up his airtime & broadcasts.

For anyone interested in what the song regularly was that he played for Duval, it was “Hit ‘Em Up” by Tupac.
