ESPN: Falcons QB Kirk Cousins’ Best Trade Fit… The Minnesota Vikings???

So, the Minnesota Vikings could and should be active at the NFL trade deadline as Quy has historically been aggressive making moves at the deadline and the Vikings sitting at three and three. Everyone getting healthy should be good to go, right? Uh, but of course ESPN, the worldwide bleeder of readers, viewers, and subscribers, just came in and suggested the most god-awful trade, but because why why not? Uh, and of course, the Vikings right now rocking with JJ McCarthy, waiting for him to get back from his high ankle sprain. Ideally, should be week nine at Detroit. Uh, as well as the veteran Carson Wentz has gone two and two over his four game stretch. Hopefully go to three and two uh Thursday night against the Chargers. Uh but of course ESPN suggesting the Kurt Cousins trade. Now we had talked during the offseason that a remote chance uh you know depending on how the money was going to be distributed of bringing Kurt back as JJ McCarthy’s backup could could make sense, right? Uh but you know two offseasons ago, Kurt Cousins moving on. That’s right. Going to Hotlanta because did you know that Julie’s from Georgia? uh going from the Tim Pot Pizza Ranch dictator to the Tim Pot Waffle House dictator, maybe he’d actually learn how to fight. It’d be good. But then right after the Falcons signed him to $110 million, fully guaranteed deal. Uh they drafted Michael Penn. All right. And Penn took over last season. Pennix has not looked great this year. Uh but of course Kurt and Kevin Okcon do have that connection. Kevin being the quarterback whisperer. Uh Kurt playing some of his best ball here with the Vikings. But nah, I don’t see it. So, ESPN, long story longer, Matt Bowen, Jeremy Fowler, 2025, NFL trade deadline ranking 20 top 25 players who could move. Kurt checked in at 21 and best team fits Vikings. Nah. Uh, but we we’ll talk about why this is dumb here in a sec. The the buzz like with Wilson. Um, even though I love that Wilson just completely destroyed Shawn Peyton. Stupid ass Shawn Peyton. Uh Kurt Cousins would need injuries at the quarterback position to spark a market. He’s 37. He struggled with interceptions last season, 16, but Cousins could help a team in a bind. Wilson has a more team friendly contract than that of Cousins, whose 10 million guarantee in 2026 is a hurdle. Carson W’s week seven struggles with the Vikings make Cousins a reunion in Minneapolis a convenient talking point for fans and media. Even Jay McCarthy soon returning from an ankle injury. uh the tape at this stage of his career. Cousins is viewed as a number two who who best fits in assistant with play action elements. So that’s what was weird last year. So the Falcons and Zack Robinson, their OC, which don’t ask a Falcons fan about their thoughts on Zack Robinson. Aya, but he was in shotgun and the pistol through mo most of his snaps last year because it was very clear that that Achilles was not healthy, right? And he couldn’t move. So maybe that changes, but also he is old. Yeah. Uh, this allows Cousins to throw with rhythm on defined concepts. Cousins says a career play action QBR of 73.6. I wonder why. I I I wonder why Kurt Cousins is so good off play action. I wonder why. Yeah. Uh, predicted chance of getting traded 20% best team fits Minnesota Vikings. Now, I I don’t see it, right? Because you do have JJ McCarthy ideally coming back week nine. All right. And Wentz has been eyeed. you know, week seven uh was was not good, but also with McCarthy so close to returning, I I I just don’t think it makes any sense. Now, if Wetsz had just come out and and stunk up the place week three uh versus being solid, I I feel like then you could have had a case where you would have had about a month still of McCarthy being out and then maybe the Vikings would would have made a move for Kurt. I mean, yeah. Uh, it’s not like the Randy Moss Kevin Garnett coming home situation, right? But could he have gotten you through a couple games? Sure. Does he knows does he know the broadstrokes of the offense? Yes. Is he familiar with the personnel in general? Yes. All right. But now I think we’re past that point. Plus, moneywise, I I don’t think it was ever going to sink up. You know, that 10 million guaranteed in 2026. Uh, definitely is the hurdle like they talked about. Now, I think it’s more likely uh that the Vikings should be interested in baby baby because the Giants are kind of contending. So, they’re probably not moving sexy Dexi Lawrence, but the Jets are completely tanking, bottoming out. And I I know they’ve said they’ve talked tough. Quinnon Williams not on the block. We’ll see. Uh Cali Jets trade values of Jets according to Connor Hughes sources. Quinn Williams second round pick baby just for you, my friend. We will do a second and a third and we’ll pay that cash. We will pay that money, right? Uh but the win all sopranos. Uh but you know the the contracts of players that could be traded. So remember Cousins has a no trade clause and I I hate that we have to explain every single time a no trade clause does not mean a player cannot be traded. Just means that he has a veto power over potential deals. That’s it. That’s it. Uh but the Vikings, any team trading for Kurt Cousins would be absorbing 16.8 8 million. And also, this might be a moot point since PennX is banged up. So, the Falcons actually might need cousins. So, I don’t know, man. But some of these other deals, you look at Simmons. See, is Quinn on here? I don’t think Quinn’s on here. Yeah. Uh, but some some of these other deals definitely seem more palatable. So, I again, it just goes back to ESPN doing things for clicks, things that make sense like maybe two months ago, but not now. Now, you go roll with Jim McCarthy. It’s healthy. You’re going to roll banged up Carson Wentz for one more game and you’re go go from there. And I I know that Kurt Cousins has fond memories of the Vikings. It was real. It was fun.   4. They could have spent money to keep Darnold or Jones if they didn't trust the young guys. Instead, they made the decision to go with McCarthy and Brosmer, naming them QB1 and QB2. Great, we were all in on it. Then, McCarthy gets injured and his injury mysteriously goes on and on, and it appears he is now being babied on the sideline. For some odd reason, we've been stuck with Wentz. Again.., nobody was sitting around this past summer wishing we had Carson Wentz instead of McCarthy and Brosmer. It's long past time to take the knife out of Brosmer's back and ride with him. Wentz is neither the now, nor the future. There is no SB in our future this year. Realistically, the season is toast, but we do have the opportunity to find out what we have in these two young QBs and whether or not we need to draft another one next year. Wentz and KOC's timidness are standing in the way of the future. IMHO…

Those who have followed Andy's channel for a number of years will know that I felt that the Vikes O-line held back the offence a heck of a lot more than Cousins held back the offence I also believed (and still do) that IF the Vikes had possessed an Eagles-quality O-line while Cousins was with the team, the Vikes would have played in at least one Super Bowl. Unfortunately, now that Cousins has moved on, the old b.s. narratives re Cousins have re-appeared (e.g. he's more greedy than other QBs, he's too sensitive, he melts under pressure, all his stats were padded in 'garbage time', etc., etc.,..) and fans have conveniently forgotten just how hard-working, smart, competitive, talented of a passer & clutch in tight games Cousins was after KOC took over as HC.
    Having said that, thanks to his Achilles tendon blowing up in 2023 & the inevitable effects of aging, Cousins is even less mobile than he was in previous years (..and he was never super mobile to start with! lol..), so – given the disappointing performance of the Vikes O-line in 5 of 6 games – Cousins would have stood even less of a chance in the pocket than Wentz. Yes, Cousins has never been prone to bonehead decisions to the same degree as Wentz, but you can't make smart decisions when you're on the turf with a 300+ pound lineman on you! lol So, having had Cousins filling in for McCarthy this year would not have given the Vikes any more wins so far…or perhaps maaaybe a win in the Eagles game.
    However…if there's one thing that Cousins would upgrade, that would be mentoring McCarthy re pre & post-snap reads & understanding the KOC/Phillips offence. He would have been & still would be a better 'intellectual' fit with McCarthy than Wentz, who is quite smart, but is more of an instinctive "I don't know why I did it, but just knew I had to do it' kind of QB.
    What about going forward? Well, first, I sense that KOC is impressed with Brosmer's potential, but really does not want to play him unless it was absolutely necessary. So, IF Wentz had to go on IR for a month or more…AND the Vikes finally get the O-line play fans have been expecting since free agency/the draft…then Cousins could be a good choice to back up McCarthy. Otherwise, I see no reason whatsoever for Cousins to be back in the purple & gold.

  13. We had a much younger version of Kurt and he wasn't the answer. The Vikings need to play McCarthy, or if he doesn't heal Brosmer, to determine if they need to draft another QB.

Vikings is time to find out if we have our quarterback of the future if not we can look find another good quarterback in the draft..I been a Viking fan for 48 years and iam tired of the Vikings bringing old wash up quarterbacks on their last legs thinking is just the last piece that will win us a Super Bowl..

  19. Noooooo. McCarthy has to play we need to evaluate. Season quickly feeling like its circling the drain. I hope not but we look average at best. Could easily be 5-1 or 1-5 oddly 😂 .

    In my eyes from what I seen both in person (been at a game) and on TV….the ranking should be…

    Brosmer>JJ>Wentz>whoever.

    Now, that is taking into account the level of injury currently our players are currently in.

    SF took a chance on Purdy…mr. irrelevant. We could do the same, but our staff doesn't like to take chances.

    He stole $185 million from the Vikings from 2018 – 2023.

    Still can't believe he is #4 all time in nfl earning only behind stafford, Brady, rodgers.

Vikings are 3 and 3 be happy with that stop with the stupid trades and targets to get ….keep the picks and get younger omg it's not like we going to win super bowl this year …the lions and packers beat us bad this year trust me …..Vikings should finish 7 and 10 but get better in off-season and drafts picks we got ….
