FOX Sports’ Mark Schlereth on Patriots OC Josh McDaniels’ Impact on Drake Maye | The Rich Eisen Show

And you’re calling the the home day game for the number two overall team in the AFC right now, the New England Patriots. I’ve got a diehard Patriot fan and Chris Brockman in the studio. Chris, do you want to let Schlareth know when the duckboat parade is prior to this weekend’s game against Mark? Here’s the deal. All the workers are gathering up around Boston. They’re changing out the spark plugs. They’re replacing the oil, making sure everything’s well looed because the duck boats are back in about October like four months. But it’s this weekend, isn’t it? This weekend. Well, we got we got to play the season first. I mean, it’s only customary. Interesting. Interesting. Mark, I mean I mean it it’s it’s all working. They just went three straight on the road. They won all three of them. Every last one of them. I don’t like your tone. Yeah, they probably they probably ought to be undefeated. You You look at their first three weeks of the season. I mean, they should have beat Pittsburgh and self-inflicted wounds. I mean, that’s a 2114 game. They had ample opportunity, red zone turnovers. They they they had five different turnovers. They were minus four in turnover differential. The first three weeks of the the season, they were um like 30th in penalties. So, they had they had taken a bunch of penalties, made a bunch of mistakes. Uh easily could have won those those two games. And I’m telling you, they have played exceptional football under Mike Vrabel. And Mike Rabbel is just one of those dudes, man, that you watch him after they get a win. You He’s out there in the tunnel, you know, dapping up all his guys, hugging and loving on all his guys. He’s a demanding dude, right? He demands greatness in practice. He’s a grinder that way. But man, they are playing hard for him. They’ve got his respect. And that guy right there, Drake May, he’s awesome. Um, I don’t know that there’s anybody playing any better than that dude right now, he has been lights out. And it’s really it’s a really fun team to watch which you know I think over the last two years they went 4 and 13 4 and 13 and now they’re sitting at what 5 and2 and uh in first place in their division and having a win over the Buffalo Bills. It’s amazing what they’ve been able to do in New England. Well, we’ll see what he does uh May in terms of a playoff run um and making the playoffs which I believe the Patriots are are in line to do right now. And uh depending on how far he goes, you could put him up there. If he goes as deep as Jaden Daniels did last year, the way that Jaden Daniels is having an injury Marge second season, that that May is is having the best uh first two years of that draft class in terms of Caleb, in terms of, you know, Penn, in terms of Bo Nicks, who’s been terrific, but as you pointed out at the beginning of this conversation, up and down with a lot of down and JJ McCarthy we’re still waiting on. I mean, May has been spectacular. spectacul. He certainly has. You know, it’s it’s really interesting, too, because there are those guys that over the course of their careers um have just proven to be unbelievable coordinators or, you know, or or coaches in that regard and then get to have that opportunity to be a head coach and for whatever reason, uh it doesn’t go well. And Josh McDaniels is in that kind of in that realm. And it was really interesting. Last time I sat down with Josh McDaniels was at Carolina game and they I mean they waxed the floor with the Carolina Panthers and just talking to him about his year off Rich and like all right well what did you do after the Raiders fired you your year off and he’s like man I got a notebook with 78 pages of notes I went to the Kansas City Chiefs training camp I went to the Houston Texans training camp I went to there’s another one in there that he went to and then he said I went to Ohio State and I’m just seeing how people run their offense how people run their team meetings, how people run their off seasonason, and just learned as much as I could possibly learn in my year off. And you go back to his year as a coordinator with M. Jones and how well M. Jones played and then all of a sudden M. Jones was lost in the desert and now he’s back with Kyle Shanahan playing really good football. It it just matters who coaches you. It matters, you know, who’s giving you the message and who’s tutoring you in the game and and allowing you to grow as a player and allowing you to understand the game at a more global level. And you can say what you want about his head coaching career, but man, that guy’s one hell of an offensive coordinator. Hey, you made it all the way to the end. Thanks for that. 1. My existential dread as a Patriots fan is that some dumbfuck owner (Jimmy Haslam, come on down!) hasn’t learned from the Denver and Vegas debacles and hires Josh McDaniels as head coach.

  2. McDaniels had two lousy breaks as HC. The Raiders were horrible, and the Broncos never had a QB, How lousy have the Raiders been since Josh left Vegas? How many offensive players had their best year when he was there?

  3. Drake Maye, Mike Vrabel and Josh McDaniels, the three-headed beast that will lead the New England Patriots to the top of the NFL once again. It may(e) not be this year, but within Drake's first contract the Pats will be in the final game of the year. Bank it.

  4. See what a great quarter back can do for a franchise it’s happening real quick for the patriots remember when Andy reed went all out for Patrick mhomes he was not the number one pick but that was his guy now the patriots was gonna pick maye if they had the first overall pick so they got their guy at number three Washington and Chicago thought they had their guy too no they probably saying damn the patriots won that draft and many more drafts to come

  5. McDaniels is the perfect OC because not only is he good at his job, but unless a team is criminally stupid they won’t hire him away and hinder Mayes development like what happened to Mac jones.
