Davion Mitchell, Norman Powell, Erik Spoelstra | Postgame Interviews | October 22, 2025
Yeah, I mean I I feel like throughout the whole game we played with great pace. Um, honestly, I think that’s what kept us um in the game. I mean, they’re they’re a lot bigger than us, but we play with a lot of pace, so um we tired them out. What would you What was the key in the down the stretch? You know, you guys rebounded well the whole game it seemed like, but then a couple of those late chances. What was going on in those moments where you just needed that board? Seemed like you couldn’t get it. Yeah, I mean, I think it I mean, I blame myself started with me with that box out with me and Wendell. Um, I got to kind of win that 101. He end up getting a rebound. They end up getting momentum. Um, they came down and they got some key rebounds to to kind of get some free throws and uh, take away the game. Finished with 12 assists. You spoke about your underrated playmaker. How much of that is kind of your role in this offense with the guys around you? Yeah, I mean, I got really I got a lot of scores around me. Um, they make the game a lot easier for me. Um, I mean, you got guys who can who make plays or you can kind of just get them advantages. is honestly just one dribble pass. I mean, get off the ball and they going to make a play. So, I got some really good players around me. What did you learn from some of the good moments of this game? There were a lot that you could take away from this as you move forward to open the opener, obviously, but what did you like in particular about our play? Yeah, I mean, obviously I like our pace. Um, offensively, we we moved the ball a lot. Um, we got we got good shots. We didn’t take a lot of bad shots. Um, I think one thing we just got to work on defensively. Um, if we’re going to play that fast, we still got to kind of be uh defensive- minded team. Um, we can’t get away from that just because we’re playing fast. We can’t let easy buckets go by. Um, it’s it’s definitely hard to do to to play fast and be one of the best defensive, but that’s that’s we’ve been working training camp, all training camp for us, so we got to be better at that. Coach said no moral victories, but he sees a blueprint for success based on tonight’s game. Would you agree with that? Yeah, for sure. Um, I mean, because we can be one of the fastest playing teams. We got the personnel. Um, we got guys who can make plays. We can we get off the ball. um guys we can tour the ball at will. So I mean I think that’s our kind of identity is play faster, but I think like I said before defensively we just got to be better. Thanks. Appreciate it. I just like the way we were moving the ball. Uh had a heavy emphasis on limiting to one shot that we did a good job um in those first uh opening minutes. Um getting uh the rebound, securing our defense possession and getting out um and pushing the pace in transition. Everybody was touching, everybody was sharing it. Um body moving ball moving. Uh it was good offense. So, the flip side to that, when you’re playing that kind of pace, how difficult is it to get to the defense you want to play in? Did you think for the most part throughout the game you got to that defense? I think for the most part we uh we got there. Um I thought we were we were wearing on them. Um I think uh what um got us in a little bit of trouble is um the few bad shots that we took in one pass uh possessions to a shot. Um not barely being able to get into our offense. And then um the turnovers, you know, um uh some of the careless turnovers, we got to limit those where um you know, we’re not being aggressive. We’re just fumbling the ball, losing the ball, making trying to make a pass. Um you know, we got to show up that that area. But I think if we um you know, uh fix those turnovers and um able to get our offense going, we’ll be able to get in our defense. Um but our our turnovers and bad shots uh fueled them in transition and it’s always tough live ball turnovers to get back in transition, get our defense set. coach said there’s no moral victories and he doesn’t want to accept moral victories but there is a blueprint from success. Can you take positives out of here into Memphis? Um yeah, definitely. I mean I don’t do moral victories either. Um you know it’s either we win or lose. Um but um every game whether you win or lose is going to have um things that you did well, things that you can build on um and things you got to get better. You know um just because if you would have walked out here with a W, you know, it doesn’t mean that there’s not areas that we need to improve on. Um but there’s definitely an identity that you saw that um we was trying to search for and find in the preseason um that we were building it. We probably got 10 15 minutes in in every game. Um but I thought we did a great job sustaining it. Um just a few few possessions, you know, when it comes down to a game that that close. Just a few possessions um we need to clean up on and I think uh we’ll we’ll be in good shape. You guys were able to to rebound pretty effectively for the first three quarters, but then you’re going to be smaller than a lot of teams that you face this year. How do you overcome that particularly late in games when Tyler comes back? You might go three guards a lot. Um mentality, you know, u being a more physical team, having a intent um to go box out and go secure the rebound. I thought we did a great job um the majority of the game. Um couple bad bounces um couple lapses and probably thinking who’s going to get the ball, but um I like the intent for the majority of the game. um you know the a lot of teams might have sizes on us but if we box out and uh take away uh their ability to jump uh contact negates uh height so um we just got to be the more physical dominant u mentally focused team to go secure those uh long rebounds and defensive rebounds. you saw we saw it in the preseason so it shouldn’t be surprising but how the the comfort level for you to just kind of ease your way into obviously easier said than done but tonight with 28 what was it like as far as just being the flow of the offense being yourself and having the kind of night you did um I think uh just uh the experience and playing in different roles I mean we’re with a group of guys um who whose mentality and focus is about winning you know and playing off one another um I think we’ve been done a great job with that and then just the style of the offense um uh fits my game you know I’m a plug-and-play guy I can play on the ball, off the ball, um, whatever is needed. Um, and you know, and, uh, coach Spo did a great job, I think, uh, uh, first play of the game, me coming off a pin down. Um, I’m really tough to guard coming out those corners with pin downs and quicks and things like that. So, taking advantage of, of those plays, um, uh, is key for my catch and shoot ability and being able to get downhill. Um, but just, uh, playing that open flow just fits my game perfectly. Then you got guys that can also get into the paint and create and you’re moving out the ball, finding the open daylight, um, and just lacing it up. Appreciate it. Thank you. I mean, it’s a little bit of both. I mean, first of all, it was one hell of a basketball game. Uh, you know, going back and forth uh, you know, stylistically, it’s a slightly different than previous Heat Magic games, but the competitive uh, nature of it uh, was definitely there uh, from both teams. And it really just comes down to a couple different plays. Uh, you know, possession basketball and uh you can point to the offensive rebound for sure, but um you know the turnover on the side out of bounds that was that was a big one as well. But uh I I’m encouraged by more things than not uh from from this game. And I’m not looking for moral victories. I’m not talking about that uh at all. But uh um there’s definitely uh things that um you know we can we can build on and and have a a game that uh that can win on the road. Offensively, what did you like what you guys did the first three quarters and what do Yeah, it naturally slows down a little bit uh in the fourth, but um I think that’s going to continue to get better. I do. Guys are getting more comfortable. Um, you know, we haven’t had a game where we’ve been able to consistently do it yet, but that that’s on its way, you know, through three quarters. Um, you know, we put up a a good amount of points. Um, and we’re doing it uh in a little bit easier way than we we have. Um, guys are gaining confident confidence. Um, you know, the ball is moving great. You know, even there at the end though, we had some great looks. you know, this whole thing could look different if two or three of those threes went down. Those those were good looks or if Norm’s call goes a different way. Um, you know, the charge. Uh, so it’s not just that offensive rebound at the end that could have been, you know, a few other things like like it always can be, you know, at the end of a close game. Thoughts on Norman Pal’s heat debut? Very good. He’s he’s explosive. uh you know, you just really like the way he’s on the move. Uh he’s a moving target. It’s tough uh to uh you know, to get a body on him. Um he can drive. He he obviously can shoot from three. He just does it in a lot of different ways. Um yeah, I would have liked to have seen that call go a different way. I need to look at that several more times. I thought he eluded that that one. And my definition of a charge and their definition is is slightly different, but I uh Norm’s probably been the most comfortable, you know, from after training camp. Uh but other guys now are starting to get in a rhythm and and you know, hopefully that’s going to be a snowball rolling down a hill. Speaking of that, Dave untie Tim Hardway’s opening night record of 12 assists. Your thoughts on his performance? Yeah, I think this probably you would have seen this earlier if he wasn’t out for that uh week. Um he’s just, you know, building off of what he did last year. Uh you know, he’s really an underrated playmaker. Um you know, getting into the paint. Um he can make threes. He loves to set up guys. Uh yeah, it’s good to see him back in that kind of form. Yeah. Well, yeah, he he’s been doing that, right? He’s he’s uh he’s earning these minutes. Um you know, because he brings that downhill force of nature, uh aspect that we need. Uh but defensively, um he’s settling in right now. He’s played some consistent possessions, you know, throughout preseason and tonight. Um you know, playing to his strengths more uh and and he earned those minutes tonight. You went either or with Bam and Kell. Um, was there any thought at the end with their size? It could have been, but the I had Kell out for too long and um, you know, we trusted the group that we had out there and and the decision- making and all these little nuances, but Klette will get there. He’ll get there. We’re going to, you know, continue to fast track him. Uh and then um you know we’ll all it’ll be all hands on deck. That’s that’s that’s going to be us um at our best when there’s there’s multiple guys contributing. Coach, uh game one of 82, a lot of heat basketball left. Just talk a little bit about the season ahead and continuing to work. I mean, that’s kind of like broad, but uh um yeah, we’ll just, you know, we’ll we’ll gather ourselves, get to to Memphis, and uh you know, we don’t want to take too much of a moral victory on this. I just see a blueprint for us, and I think there’s some things that are going to get better and better, you know, as as we spend more time with each other. But the bottom line is, you know, we got to find a way to get a win. And that’s uh that’s what we’ll focus on going into Memphis. All right. Appreciate you.

Thank God for Davion and Norm.
We got absolutely steal on Norman Powell and that man Simone is really nice too! good DRob replacement
Spo doing such a great job. Wiggins -21 & Bam -2, but the hypocrite Spo punishes Jovic & Ware instead ….🙄
Bam and Wiggins for Giannis and Bobby Portis. Submit it now
We were a -8.5 underdog tonight! This team will compete all year!
Ain't 10 Asians playing NBA Basketball. But this guy is the coach of the Heat. I see why Spo ain't with his wife no more
Jovic at point until Herro returns. Ware and Bam in the frontcourt. Whats wrong with that dude? Getting paid millions to fail
One helluva a three point shootout. Put ya bigs on the block in crunch time silly. Minimize turnovers. Take high percentage shots genius.
He talking bout threes in crunch time. Stupid! You got a whole freak of nature. How this man make millions?
To all of you who clearly don't understand basketball please read this.
Orlando is likely to be a top 4 team in the East, arguably could have 2 all NBA level guys in Banchero and Wagner. The minutes Ware played he was not up against the starting unit, Yes he would be great rebounding, but what got us the lead and kept this competitive was our offensive pace… Which we are just starting to get used to, our offence actually looked planned and clean for the first time in idk how long.
Bam has the ability to switch onto Banchero and Wagner at the perimeter, which Ware does not he would get driven on and likely give up a foul or easy bucket. Bam multiple times made a stop on Banchero in and outside of the paint.
If we played both yes defensively we'd be better off, but then you casuals would just complain about our offence being shit in the closing minutes again. As our fast paced offence that Jaquez, Mitchell, Powell, Wiggs and Fontecchio all looked great in.
If we had Herro i'd bet money we win this game, I thought we looked like the better team tbh even this game.
Instead of just blaming Spo, respect the fact that Orlando is gigantic and is one of the best offensive rebounding teams in the league, thats why they are so favourably looked at.
Small ball will not work Coach Spo!!!
We definitely should’ve won this game. We let it slip away. 😡.
All you 'fans' blaming spo need to gtfo, you dont know shit about ball
Bam gotta be better in those 4th qtrs but I’m very impressed with Norman & Davion
Get your shit together, these 4th quarter issues are all too familiar from last season
Collapse
LETS GO HEAT. Orlando is one of the best team in the East and playing home. Our guys are just starting.
Powell 28, the TEAM have shooters. DEFENSE got our guys ahead and almost the W. LETS GO TEAM!
Where the post game of Bam?
I wanna hear him talk about how soft he was and how he let our bench players Jamie and Fontecchio both drill more shots than him.
Our max contract captain made zero shots in the 4th quarter. Shame
Ngl wasn’t impressed by magic feel like some of those free throws they got were really undeserved it was like we couldn’t even breathe on them. Plus I saw magic travel multiples and not het called. That charging call in 4th not being overturned was diabolical too
Almost beat magic without our best player and we played really well, 100% we have the blueprint for success just got to keep grinding!
We could have had ALL NBA Kevin Durant for very little. fire Pat Riley
spo sucks. He keeps on loosing games by refusing to play Ware along side bam. If you have the lead with 2 less than 2 min. spo you big dummy you need to play defense and rebound.
Stop saying that teams will have size on you guys you guys are choosing to play small ball. If you play ware bam and jovic together you bigger or just as big as any team in the nba
If Ware was 💯 percent Miami dominate Orlando Magic
I missed the game but these highlight show promise for me.
This road doesn’t get easier and you guys needs Kel el ware Badly no disrespect to Bam or Jokic But Kel el Ware is a different beast he guards every position gets all the rebounds gets shot blocks when needed hits the 3 point shot . Wiggins has to play better
I personally would start Kasperious over Tyler hero at the point position hopefully this dude gets healthy soon Davion doing great but who is going to back up this dude Dru smith is not ready for point guard position has to to Kasp
We got to play ware more than jovic…its that simple
stop loosing the same way you big dummy. ever since last year you cant secure a rebound at crunch time because you have ware on the bench
Imagine Tyler back, Davion mannning our 2nd unit. Damn! This team is a contender! 💪🏿💪🏿💪🏿 spo the best coach in the nba rn.
