Matthew Stafford & Davante Adams Talk About Sunday’s 35-7 Win Over The Jaguars

Um, I thought we had a great week in Baltimore. Did a nice job. Um, you know, we flew over here Friday night. Um, what equates to like a red eye and then had a little walk through Saturday, went to sleep, pieced it together and and went out and played good Sunday. So, I mean, listen, first second quarter of the game, we weren’t sitting there going, man, you know, that was glad we, you know, did what we did. We’re just going out there to try to execute and win a game and uh, we were able to do it, which was awesome. But really just going back to the week of work, I thought our guys did a great job. Our coaches and and players um did a great job of just having, you know, a bunch of uh, you know, enjoyment and and execution out there in practice and it showed up on Sunday. You had that early on today. How early on those loops, those passes, how much you going to build up a Yeah, it was great. Um, you know, we moved the pocket early. Um, was able to get out on the edge and find some guys. I thought all of our tight ends played really well today. Um receivers, um backs, everybody kind of had a had their hand in it, which was nice. But yeah, we spread the ball around a bunch today. A bunch of guys that caught it, um and made some plays. So, um just excited for where our offense is going. Obviously, there’s you know, a little bit of lull there in the third quarter, some plays that we’d like to clean up. Um you know, just maybe a couple uh you know, plays on third down keep us on the field. Um and but our defense did a hell of a job. Got us the ball back and um you know, we’re able to capitalize. Do I get a sword or something? Did you know that you broken that record and just how good did it feel for the offense to get away? Uh I I didn’t um you know I was in the game so uh it’s a cool thing. Um uh we’ll see how long it lasts but uh I’m I’m uh I guess it’s it’s a cool thing to have happen. Obviously this is my third time playing over here. It’s a blast. Um, you know, sometimes travel’s is tough, but uh once you get out here, the fans are great, people are great, love the game, and and was glad that we just came away with the win. Makes the the flight home a hell of a lot better. be able to foc Yeah, I mean it’s part of the game, you know. Um in the NFL we deal with injuries week in and week out. Um obviously not having Puke out there was a big one. Two two was kind of limited uh you know after the first drive of the game or second drive of the game felt like. Um so you know we had some guys step up and make some plays. Obviously Devonte’s as good a receiver has been in this league for a long time. So um really happy for his day. He did a nice job um you know obviously getting open making some great plays in the red zone. Um you know putting the ball in the end zone for us. So, we’re lucky to have him and and uh you know, just just happy that we got it done. Yeah, I mean they’re an aggressive team. Um, you know, I think their defensive coordinator does a nice job uh you know, bringing different blitz packages. It was kind of one of those games, you know, like a little bit of tough tough game to kind of throw and catch with the ball and and just the way the field was going. So, they were playing sticky in coverage a lot and and bringing some pressure. So, um, you know, hats off to them. They’re they’re, you know, aggressive style defense. Um, they got a really good front. Bunch of first round picks all over that all over that front. I thought for the most part, our guys did a really nice job of just battling. I mean, that’s what that’s what NFL football’s all about. It’s not going to be perfect every single time. Need plays you want back, you know, things we can clean up, but man, they battled and and uh, you know, when when we needed it most, we’re able to come up with some touchdowns. How do you guys, especially compared to the last? Yeah, I mean, obviously, we’re in a better spot record-wise. Um, you know, I think there’s, um, you know, still a lot to be cleaned up and a lot of things that we can be better at. Um, but we’ve done a nice job through the first, uh, you know, seven of finding ways to win games most of the time. You know, there’s there’s definitely some you want back, but um, today was a nice complete game. I thought our defense played outstanding. Um, you know, offense we were able to, you know, punch it in. We got in the red zone. I that’s a huge, you know, point differential from some other games you look at, you know, during the season where it’s, you know, we’re scoring 21 or 23 and then it’s 35 today because we, you know, we punched it in and it just that league can really open up and and um, you know, we played off each other, you know, well today, I felt like, was there anything different you did in practice this week to kind of work on your chemistry with Devonte? Just a second question, are you feeling any kind of jet lag or how you feeling physically? Ask me tomorrow. Um it’ll be a wild one. Um flying back right now. But um uh as far as Dvonte goes, no, I mean we didn’t do anything different. Just went out there and practice. Obviously, we were practicing in a baseball stadium, which was kind of cool, but um there wasn’t, you know, anything different. Um just going about our business, continue and tried to talk to each other, work with each other, and and just develop as best we possibly can. Um and I thought today was a great example of that. He made some great plays. Um, again, you know, a couple plays that were penalty yards that man, you know, if if if they don’t PI him or whatever it is, we make that catch, it’s a it’s a huge day statistically for him, but he knows he’s doing his part for our team, which is amazing. He’s such a great teammate. So, um, fired up for him. And as far as jet lag goes, yeah, I mean, it was an interesting 24 48 hours. It’s going to be uh, you know, another bit interesting when we fly all the way back to LA tonight. But, um, just excited to get a win and, uh, have a little break. Matthew, this is your first time playing at Stadium in 10 years. Yeah. And the first time you threw for five touchdowns, what does it say about the momentum you’re building with the LA rounds at the moment? Oh, it was good. It was a step in the right direction for us. Um, anytime you can get a win in the NFL, it’s hard to win NFL football games. Um, don’t care how you get it done. Glad that we got it done in the fashion that we did today. Felt like, uh, as a team we played well. Um, but uh, yeah, it’s nice uh, nice being back at Wimbley and getting a dub. Couple more. Couple more. How’s how’s this team compared to your two bowling teams? Um, I don’t know. You know, it’s different. Every team is different. Um, you come into the NFL every single year. I feel like there’s like 30% turnover on your team. So, you got new new uh new players on your team, different style that you got to kind of figure out, hey, what’s going to be us this year? Um, and we’re doing that and developing that and getting wins along the way, which is awesome. Um, you know, and and uh I still feel like there’s a lot more, you know, success out there for us. Do you know these celebrations that your team’s going to do today? I’m unfamiliar. You’re not going to see you do one at some point? I don’t know. Uh see. No, that’s okay. You know, you know, that’s all right. Uh no, but I think they’re great at them. All right, guys. Good. Cool. All right. Yeah. How do you evalate? Well, I’m I’m proud of the team just how they, you know, handled the trip in general. Obviously, being smart first and foremost. The, you know, traveling and um not having curfew for maybe a couple nights and and just being smart about that. So, um being on the road is not easy. Obviously, that that long is a lot different than the way, you know, we normally do it. you know, baseball and some of those other sports, they get kind of used to doing that. So, just the way we handled the the trip in general was good. Um, and you know, even last night, I went to sleep at like 10:30, 10:45 and woke up at 4. Actually got to say good night to my kids, which was weird. And, uh, and laid in bed for another 5 hours and couldn’t go back to sleep. So, um, so for us to I think it was a couple other guys that kind of had a similar situation. So, for us to be low on energy, you know, as far as sleep and and kind of being weird, our time clocks, I was proud of the way we came out, you know, and, you know, credit to the the fans out here in London for um bringing the energy, too, and and uh you know, participating in some of the celebrations, too, which is a lot of fun. And uh yeah, it’s never easy when you’re doing it a little bit different than the way you normally do it, but proud of the way we uh we handle it. You talked this week about trying to get that connection with Stafford. seemed like really on display, especially on Yeah. Can you kind of take us through what happened there? Yeah. No, we we had I mean, just like just like anything, it starts with practice and the way that we we go about it. Not that we haven’t been, you know, practicing hard and and well, but just the intentionality, you know, I went into this week, I told you guys early in the week, you know, I wasn’t satisfied with the the efficiency, you know, specifically him targeting me. uh you know, whatever it it’s been, you know, some of them has been been me, some of them been the throw, but just figuring it out and getting on the right page and uh you know, I take a lot of pride in in what I do and the product I’m able to help put out on the on the field. So, um you know, I was there was some texting going on, you know, us talking through certain things and um even before the Baltimore game, just working on a few things. So starting out obviously the first two not getting them we were like okay you know just keep keep being ourselves not try to press cuz I think that’s what you can kind of fall into that hole sometimes where it’s not working and you know tried to do something that’s you know outside of your body or whatever and similar to what Aaron used to tell me we don’t need any herculean efforts it’s just you know go out and be yourself and and uh you know that that’s what we did today you have a quarterback that’s on fire there do you feel that all you need to do was bit of footwork either Who’s the defender that split second? He’s going to find you. He was going for kill straight off. Absolutely. No, that’s that’s the type of I mean, he’s a he’s a killer. That’s what that’s what killers do. They go out and kill. So, um it’s it’s never easy when you’re operating in elements like that, but you know, we started off a little slow, he and I, and then um you know, but the rest of the offense was rolling, so we were able to kind of keep the ball moving and then found our opportunities in there and and took advantage. efficiency so far. What do you feel like today? We should just run all the same plays. Yeah, just run it run them all back and today stop it. I mean um I mean honestly just what we were presented with on defense today. We we saw a few um opportune moments to to go and you know take advantage of some one-on- ones. Marrying up up the the the run game with the pass game and um the the second touchdown in the back of the end zone there. That was a play off of the play we ran literally right before that. So, just kind of keeping in mind is figuring out a way to, you know, to punch it in. And, you know, I pride myself of being a a solid red zone target. So, um, it was I’m glad we were able to show that today. Stford three for five touchs today, which is a London game record, international series record. Yeah. You got three, which is also a record. How does that feel? Feels great. I mean, it’s going to make this this this uh this buy a hell of a lot sweeter, that’s for sure. anytime you, you know, got a a long break from a Thursday game to your next game or um, you know, whatever the case may be, it’s a little harder when you’re coming off of a L. So, um, just being able to to rally and figure it out and and come out with a lot of energy and have a good convincing win like this, it was great. Yeah. No, yeah, I feel like I’m I’m connected with the the country, the the the people now. So, it’s uh I mean I I’d love to come out and do it every week, honestly. But, it’s it’s it’s a tough game. So, anytime you can, you know, put up three in a game is uh it’s a it’s a pretty big deal. So, I’m I’m fortunate to have quarterback like I do and and just the squad that I’m on as well to help me out, you know, is I try to help them out. So, it’s it’s good to kind of have that be uh reciprocated. I mean, just like true pros, man. Both of them are like, if you if you didn’t know, I mean, Ferg looks a little young in the face and so does so does Kate. But I mean, the way they go about their business is like true pros, man. It’s been real easy to have somebody I call, y’all should pick on him if you talk to him, but but I call Kate, my son, just cuz he just remind me so much of myself as far as, you know, kind of a a young Tay. And honestly, I think he’s ahead of where I was, you know, my rookie year as far as just being comfortable in the league and um you I mean, he’s crazy coachable and and just got all the ability in the world. So, um, you know, whenever whenever I’m done in there, he he’ll he’ll go and step up and he’ll be catching a lot more touchdowns than what he did today. You talk about how you pride yourself so much on your play the red zone. I guess just in general, what was different about today that that made it all together? I mean, just just the execution. I mean, you hear me talk about that all the time. We can talk about, you know, the the plays or the defense or whatever a bunch of times, but I mean, not every play we went out there and executed on was a premier look and and we just found a way. I think it’s that’s what you got to do sometimes. And really there was some more out there if you if you look at some of the penalties that you know we drew. Um you know third down PI or Holden or whatever it was and you know the the the other third down where you’re trying to throw it down the field and keeping that drive going. So there’s some more hidden yardage in there too whereas you know if they didn’t commit those penalties it could have been a a much better product than what it was. So it’s a it’s a good feeling to know that you know we’re we’re doing everything we can to maximize this. All right guys. Thank you. Cool. Appreciate it.

  1. Great job today! Keep spreading the wealth! Stay healthy, get Tutu and Puca back, Williams and Corrum are hard for defenses to prepare for. Defense was awesome today! Lots of weapons!

  2. Man Tae BELONGED here with the Rams! He is so cool, classy, productive and professional! That is EXACTLY the type of organization McVay and Snead have fostered since they arrived! To be a Ram, you HAVE to be different! Ramsey was a perfect example! He came in with a reputation supposedly! Ramsey was a CLASS act and a DAWG on the field as well! He LOVES McVay and vise versa! I have been a Rams fan for 43 years and counting and I have NEVER been more proud of this organization!

  3. Love what mcvay did with the scheme. Knowing cohen is familiar with the rams offense he completely took him by surprise with the 3 tightend personnel

  4. IMO this was their first solid game on both sides of the ball. Mistakes were minimal…of course there are goin to be some, And it was without puca! Hopefully Mcvay remembers there are a lot of great players on this team that are ALL capable of great football! IMO I think without puca the defense doesn’t know or have a strong feeling where the ball is going, making all out players weapons in different ways keeps the defense guessing. One thing I hope Mcvay realizes that Williams is not a power house running back. I hate seeing when we need short yardage and the call is for Williams to try to punch it in…he is stopped by the first body he hits ( sometimes it being the back of one of our lineman ) no disrespect to him…honestly but it is what it is, which is fine but stop trying to use him for it!! I’ve been a fan of the rams for 30 years..I LOVE THIS F_*#IN TEAM!!!
