Dan Wilson Responds to Blue Jays STUNNING Mariners in ALCS GM4, Max Scherzer & Castillo Performances

Hey Dan, uh what did you see from Luis that made you want to go pull him quick and and kind of walk us through the thinking behind all the moves there? Yeah. Um I think you know we talked about it beforehand that that we had the ability tonight to to be aggressive with the bullpen and and uh in that situation. um you know, Gabriel was ready to go and and uh it was a good matchup for us and and uh um you know, we felt like that was a time to go and and um you know, I think it’s you know, you make tough decisions and and that was a tough one for sure. Um and uh you know, uh I think Gabe did a a good job. You know, he walked far show but then able to get the next two guys. What were you seeing from Luise though that made you be like, “Okay, this isn’t working.” Well, I mean, again, um you know, we we we knew ahead of time that that we could be um you know, aggressive tonight and and um you know, I think, uh in that situation, they you know, they they struck quickly last night and and uh so, you know, tonight um we had a chance to to send Gabe out there and and uh we did. With Gabe, I think he was at 26 pitches or so when he faced Springer, was there any inclination to going and getting him with brash warming at that point? Um yeah, I mean, you know, again, uh you make decisions and and uh you got to live with them and and uh you know, still thought he was throwing the ball well and and um but you know, Springer able to get him. Second row on your far left, Dan. Dan, did the way the third inning went yesterday for George um impact or inform the decision-m process for Luis today? Um, I mean, uh, you know, we know about this offense and and, um, you know, they can, you know, they struck quickly and and, uh, um, you know, again, it just felt like it was a situation where we knew we could be aggressive and tonight was, you know, an opportunity to do that with Gabe there and and, uh, we we went went with it. First on the end, Adam, and at this stage of the season, you guys know who you are pitching wise, you’re going to attack, you’re going to get after it in the zone. At the same time, they want to be aggressive in the zone, too. at this stage in the series, what kind of adjustments can you make pitching wise in that regard? Um, you know, I think uh our our guys, you know, um have thrown the ball well all season long and and have done that and um you know, this is you know, two good teams going at it. That’s what this, you know, the the championship series is all about. And and uh we will make our adjustments and and um you know, continue to to to do that and and um you know, continue to do the things that we do that make us successful as well. Dan, there were a couple base running errors. There was a wild pitch that scored a run. There was a walk that scored a run. Toronto outplayed you today, but what can you say about just those little things adding up today? Yeah, I mean, you know, little things, you know, that is, you know, that is what happens in this time of year and and um you know, they can make a big difference and we’ve talked about that a lot and um you know, tonight seemed like that there were a couple situations that that uh you know, that hurt us that way. Right up front, Dan. Uh, kind of on that note of the little things adding up, it seemed like Sherzer today, the fast ball was working right away, but the off speed stuff took a while to get there. Was there a feeling like there was an opening early on to get to him that maybe just didn’t happen for you guys today? Yeah, I mean, you know, again, we we talked about Sherzer and and his ability as a as a veteran to kind of step up and um, you know, I think he he made some good pitches tonight when he had to. I thought he mixed up his his arsenal pretty well. He had he had a good fast ball and and then was able to use, you know, change up his curve and his slider as well. Um and uh I thought he had a pretty good mix with it tonight and kept us off stride. Third row on your left, Tyler. Dan, with uh you know, using some of your relievers tonight and when or how can you deploy activate the Brian Woo um component of this because you know he they haven’t seen him yet and you know is he someone you’re eager to get in there tomorrow? Could he be a factor tomorrow? Yeah, I mean I think you know we did use bullpen guys tonight, but they were you know very well rested again. Um and and uh so I think that uh you know we’re still in good shape in terms of our bullpen and and uh also you know we have Brian down there as well and and uh you know we we’ll utilize him when when the time is right. Also um with with Naylor running there in the sixth inning. Take me through that play. What was that the right play to to to go there to go to third or what? Um, I mean, I think, you know, we tend to be aggressive and, uh, you know, sometimes, you know, uh, when we’re aggressive, you know, it can backfire. On the second row, you’re right, Buster. Dan, when you went to the mound, you talked to Castillo before making the move. What did you tell him? Um, you know, just that, you know, we were going to go to Gabe in that situation. It it was tough. Again, it’s a tough decision and and, um, you know, it was not an easy one. uh you know and and not an easy one to to tell him and um but uh you know that’s what we went with and and uh you know just an opportunity to let him know from your right Ryan. Yeah, you had five walks on Sherzer. I mean what did you see in the approaches otherwise though it looked like sometimes you guys got a little overaggressive on him on some pitches out of the zone? Yeah. Uh you know I I think again we we talked about it. Um, you know, I think he he made some pitches when he had to in some key situations. We were able to get some traffic going, but but nothing that we were able to um, you know, drive that guy in and and um, you know, just uh, you know, he again made a couple, you know, got us out, he got himself out of a couple situations and and um, you know, that that was the story for tonight. Third row on your left, Mike. Dan, just, you know, when you zoom out from this game, even offensively, you know, there’s a number of players who are slumping at this point. I was wondering, do you feel like some guys are pressing the situation or how would you kind of explain some of the issues offensively? Um, you know, I think again we we had opportunities. Um, just weren’t able to cash in tonight and and um, you know, I think that uh, uh, you know, this is a team, you know, we’ve talked about, you know, bouncing back. You know, the series tied up now at this point and and, uh, um, this is an opportunity really for us to to bounce back and and uh, get back on it and and uh, tomorrow we come out and do that. Two last ones. Dan standing on your left. Dan, how would you describe the psyche of your team right now? Um, I mean, you know, obviously, uh, you know, we we we wanted to to to get, you know, a couple series, you know, a couple of wins here in the series at home. We haven’t been able to do that, but, you know, again, tomorrow, uh, we have a chance to bounce back and and, uh, you know, that’s where our that’s where our focus is going forward. We’ll finish with Tyler in the third row. Dan, how do you get back to to playing your kind of game? I mean, you’re not used to teams coming in here and doing what they’ve done to your pitching staff. It just doesn’t happen. Yeah. I mean, I think, you know, again, um, you know, doing the things that that we do offensively, you know, grinding out our at bats, getting guys on base and and getting them in and and, uh, you know, driving the ball in the gaps. That’s what we do and and, uh, you know, on the mound, you know, we we attack the zone and we just need continue to get back to that and and uh, that’s that’s what we do well and and uh, we’ll get back to that tomorrow and and and bounce back from the series. Hey, hey, hey.

  1. Why do our players look so flat from a passion standpoint? I see no fire. I see nobody lighting a fire under someones ass. I see a bunch of overwhelmed players that aren't punching back, only punching out. Terrible!

  2. Mariners woke up a sleeping giant that spent 4 off days reading their own clippings of demolishing the Yankees evil empire in ALDS and were napping in games 1 and 2.

  3. in true mariner fashion we win the two games we were supposed to lose and lose the two games we were supposed to win 😂 this thing might go to 7

  4. ‘You know ..we talked about ..” Rinse. Repeat. Dan doesn’t have a plan nor a vision for the offense. Make adjustments to the batting order. Move Randy and Geno toward the back end of the card, they haven’t earned the extra ABs and may benefit from the shake-up. Lead off with JP, let him work a count and the umpire. Play small ball with Robles and Miles. Get runners on base. Move them around with quality outs. Create a threat for multi-run innings.
For crying out loud, don’t give up outs with unnecessarily aggressive base running.

  5. Jays imposing their will in 2 playoff games in a row. One game maybe a fluke, but not 2 playoff games of domination in a row after Mariners were very fortunate to catch them napping in games 1 and 2.

  6. Good lord Wilson is clueless, maybe a great guy but that was awful listening to him have no answers for the team looking lost and completely non-competitive.

  7. Tell the Mariners to quick swinging for Homeruns and simply put the ball in play and string together base hits. Biggest difference between them and the Bluejays these last 2 games.

  8. I recall George Kirby and Luis Castillo not fairing well with the Blue jay lineup generally. Do not worry because this team is battle tested and Manager Wilson has done a spectacular job getting this far. Jesus bless win or lose.

  9. Folks…I'm over here in New Hampshire and am rooting for your Mariners…there are a lot of us up here and throughout the nation! You got this…this is YOUR year! You have a dedicated and skilled team under the best of a passionate and experienced manager! Shoulders back, heads high, hearts full, and go and win this series!

  10. Toronto swings at the first fastball they see. They just make contact. We stare at the first two fastballs we see for strikes then chase a shitty breaking ball in dirt and get punched out. Constantly

  11. SUAREZ in the batting order is a guaranteed out 19/20. Jays are better at 3rd, with no debate. SS even defensively with the surprise power from Giminez gives them the edge. Better D at all positions in the outfield. DH Srpinger….next level. Then there is Vlad and Ernie. Jays are just a better ball club.

  12. Dan Wilson became John Schneider. 😂 Keep in mind that the manager is either a genius or an idiot every single game depending on the outcome. I think the M's will take one more game, then Jays get steamrolled by the freight training Dodgers.
