Tiago Splitter will serve as Interim Head Coach

  1. I like it, honestly prefer this to Bjorkgren taking over the HC role. And it doesn’t really make sense for us to do a HC search until Dudon takes over

  2. My greatest Tiago splitter memory is LeBron rejecting his dunk in the finals. Never did i dream he would be our head coach 13 years later.

  3. Perhaps due to Bjorkgren’s rocky past as a HC he decided not to step into that position. Wow….Splitter as a HC just like that but he did have success in Europe as a HC. It’s totally different in the States but really curious to see what his vision is for this ball club and whether that vision is in line with how the Blazers have played to this point with this group.

What made Chauncey a decent coach was the personal side more than anything and how he empowered players, was pretty good with reading the feel of games, and that players played hard for him. Can Splitter get that same fight from this group?

Thank heavens Dame and Jrue are here, if this was last season this team would surely crumble.

  4. How is he nine inches taller than me but only 15 pounds heavier? This doesn’t seem fair or polite.

  5. Here we go! Cronin has unleashed a new era. Hopefully, the players continue to buy in and this doesn’t demolish our chemistry. For all I know, we might end up rolling with Splitter through this season. It might make some sense to see if any other good coaches become available too throughout the year.

  6. this is very good news guys, possibly the best outcome possible considering our circumstances. He is going to do well, has some new school /old school mix vibes to him

  7. I watch the Euroleague – he did pretty well with Paris last season, as they reached the playoffs (so top 8 out of 18) in their first season in the Euroleague. He also won the French league too, beating Monaco in the finals.

  8. WE can just take off the interim tag, no? CB cannot come back. ALl of those FIRE CB people must be crying tears of joy right now.

  9. Honestly I like that, he has experience as an NBA player (champion even). assistant coach on the Nets and Rockets, and in his only season as head coach in Europe has led his team to a surprising success. If Chauncey is really done I hope he is succesful and this move becomes permanent

  10. This is honestly a huge win for Pdx, Chauncey was not good, he just wanted to be their bro, and an even worse human being, Blazers are deep, moving on.

  11. Going from assistant to head coach in 1 game has to be the fastest promotion of all time.

  12. That’s incredible Bjorkgren passed on it. No idea if Splitter is good but fingers crossed

  13. Love this, my real hope is that new ownership has watched the past few owner transitions and has half a mind to mess with as little as possible for at least this season. I’m hoping they had a hand in this and let it ride a bit before doing anything drastic.

  14. I was hoping for Tiago given that seemingly everywhere he’s gone, he’s seen success. Former player helps too.

League is becoming more euro too (well at least Euroleague inspired), so not a bad idea to join the club

  15. He’s definitely got the potential to unlock things for this ball club. I don’t think they’ll mess with things too drastically immediately but he will be putting his mark and his vision on this club and feel he could be key to unlocking things offensively for them. I’m excited.

I never thought Chauncey was long term for us. Good to get us to respectability, but not playoff level.

  16. This is a blessing in disguise, I wanted Tiago Splitter to be a Blazers coach BEFORE he was hired. What he’s done as an assistant coach in the league and over in Euroleague is EXACTLY what we need for this team.
