Edmonton Oilers Are Back on Home Ice + Maxim Lapierre | Oilersnation Everyday with Tyler & Liam
Heat. Heat. Burning it. Bring it on. Switch right now. Welcome to Oilers Nation everyday with your hosts Tyler and Liam. Ranking things I care about right now in order. Three, Oilers Habs tonight. Two, Blue Jays in the World Series. One, Leonard Patrell jersey retirement. Let’s get into it with the lead. I can’t believe it. I can’t believe our boy is going to see his number go to the Raptors. Once an Oiler or an Oilers. If you would have told an Oilers fan back in ‘ 09 or whatever, hey, one day Leonard Patrell is getting his jersey retired, but you didn’t specify where that said Oilers fan probably would have gotten pretty excited. I remember when he cracked the squad for the sole reason of Gregor’s like, “There’s a guy no one knows about who’s going to make the team this year.” And I’m like trying to throw names and he’s like, “Nope, nope, nope, nope, nope.” Like, “Gregor, who is it?” He’s like, “Leonard Patrell. He’s having such a good camp. He’s going to make the squad guaranteed.” And then he did. And then he left. Very rare player in the sense that he played more NHL games than American League games. Like, as soon as they started to send him back down, he was like, “Nah, I’m good. I’m going home. I’m going home. I’m going back to Helsinki.” Uh, but anyways, welcome into Oilers Nation every day. We are back live or I’m back live from the Sports Closet studio. Got a gift card to give away later in the show. Shout out to our friends at the Sports Closet. Three locations in the Edmonton area. Downtown or sorry, Kingsway, St. Albert Mall, Sherwood Park Mall. Show is also a presentation. Kingsway is downtown adjacent. Yeah, it counts. It’s basically I’ll give you credit. You’ve been away. Yeah, I’m a little rusty on my ad reads. Uh, bet 365. Whatever the moment, it’s never ordinary at Bet365. Game day betting challenge coming up later on in the first hour. And then we’ll kick off our second hour of the program with Maxim Lapierre. Hello, Max. Former Hab, former kuck, former duck. Mhm. Was he? Yeah, he was he was a duck real briefly. Got traded dead. All the Canucks just went to Anaheim. Yeah. Yeah. Especially Baxa Kesler. Yeah. Lapierre. Um, oh, Brad Richards went the other way. Richardson, sorry, not Brad Richards. My mistake. Brad Richardson. Yeah, exactly. Uh, game day today for the MD Oilers. So, obviously that’s why Jay’s here back on home ice coming off a Let’s do this. One word to describe the road trip, boys. Terrible. Yeah, it’s uh Yeah, it was no bueno. Especially after the start. You know, Stu Skinner pitches a shut out against the New York Rangers and you’re thinking like, “All right, you start the trip against one of the better teams you were supposed to face on the trip and you get a steal from Steuart Skinner.” And it was like, “All right, like here we go.” At that point, it was points and three straight to start the season. Here we go. And listen, things still aren’t all that bad. No, three three and one is not horrendous by any means. Especially when you’ve had five road games, four road games, and this is a good road trip to get out of the way early in the season. Yeah, it still just sucks. It’s like they they should have beat some of those teams and they just laid an egg. Yeah, they should. I think Yes. And then they showed similar symptoms against Ottawa. Yes. We’re good. Then started laying eggs and then were able to just kind of hold on and get it done in overtime. Thank you, Jake Walman. What a shot. That celebration is great. Almost took’s head off with it. It almost and again being a goalie in the NHL a very difficult thing to do 100%. Um it kind of looked like Mark got scared by it. It’s dreaded like was like oh damn what that black thing. Yeah. Shoot. Um let’s take another look here. Yeah. Let’s get another watch at this one. Shout out Sports Net for the highlights. Uh Matt Seavoy in the faceoff circle. Nice little play by Echome. And yeah, it looks like just had no idea how that thing was coming off the stick. So, is this a Tik Tok dance or something? I don’t know. That’s the trend. That’s what Peyton was saying. Someone Someone put it in our one of the YouTube comments today. Um, relic rhymes. My lord hairdone apparently what it is. Oh, let me get that. What is this? I don’t know. Door knock it. What is this? Well, what did Jay bring? What? This I actually have no idea what you’re doing. It’s not what I brought. Spooky. This is the This is the O and E audience. They want to congratulate us on our trial run or your trial run for a thousand episodes. This is our 1,000th episode of the show. They miscounted. No, it is. It is. So, this is a trial run. There’s a lovely cake that they provided. It weighs a ton. Who made it? So, you know it’s quality. It says happy thousandth o. So, this is a practice warm-up. When is our actual This is the cake before the cake. So, congrats, guys. This This is why practice cuz we got to make it count cuz we got to level up when it actually happens. I can’t believe we made it to 1,000 episodes. We’re We’re close. We’re trending. We’re pacing. We’re projected to hit 1,000 episodes in only four seasons. So, this cake showed up today. They realized there was a mistake. Oh, yeah. Uh in terms of timing. bad math, but we got to be close. Who is in charge of this? So, I anonymous. I don’t know. I I just I got pulled in uh to quote unquote Jay, I need you for a secret mission. Okay. And so, I was going to come in late and be the deliverer, but you asked me to be on time. And I’m like, ah. So, then this is what we concocted. So, I’ll explain what happened. Okay. I want I want one more followup. This cake is so heavy. Me asking you if you’re ready to start the show on time has never prevented you in the past from showing up late. That is true. And then when I So I went into Maddy’s office and I was like, Ty wants me to be on time today. So this is what happened. I got to give this cake to put this. Yeah. Go give it to Aaron maybe. Grab it. So this is a lesson in organization, I think, is is the takeaway from this. So, our YouTube playlist yesterday said it was our 999th episode heading into it. But what had happened was we only started putting them into the correct we had never gone back and reorganized. So, there was multiple things that was just like videos from this show which made up to a thousand. So, really we’re probably at like seven something I would think. Well, we usually do about 220 a year. Is that somewhere around there? And this is season 4. Yeah, next season. Yeah, next season we’ll get it. Christmas. Um, but we appreciate the cake. I’m a big Black Forest cake guy. I love Black Forest. That’s what I get for my birthday every year kind of thing. So, well, happy birthday. Belated birthday. Yeah. Um, thank you to everyone who So, just remember our training from this one when it actually happened. The winning off like I thought you were going to be like, “Oh, it’s like 997. Like, it’s a few days away. It’s not even close.” No, I don’t know. You tell me. I thought you If a cake like this shows up, I’ll practice every day. Yeah. Wow. All right. Well, thank you to the listeners who organiz Mr. Burns counted. This is a 645th episode. Oh my god. So, we’re actually probably two years away from the cake. Two years away. It’s going to be so funny in two years. We’ll keep the cake. We’ll freeze it. Yeah. Time capsule. That’s a good idea. Oh, we got to eat it. I’m so hungry. And we’ll bury it. That’s so You knew this was going on? No, I had no idea. And yesterday it was the lead. Oh, really? I I told everyone this is not the 10,000th episode. So, there was a bit of a movement. Um, apparently, if I’m reading the chat right, Lance just said, “That’s hockey, baby.” Which doesn’t make a ton of sense, but it’s still funny. Someone else said this was in the Discord that it started to get a movement. So, thanks counting. Yeah. And hey, we I am so It’s not the 10,000th one, so I don’t need to do a big speech, but I’m so blessed that enough people care about this show that pretending to have our 10,000th episode can do this. When we actually hit a thousand, this is going to hit real good. Yeah. Damn. How heavy is the cake? How heavy is the cake going to be when we actually do it? Damn. Going to need a wheelbarrow. Mhm. Um Jesus, what a what a fun start to our show. Unexpected. I was honestly I was quite spooked when someone was on Happy Jersey Retirement, Leonard Petro. We got you a cake. We got you a cake, everyone. It is a milestone event. Uh YouTube chat as always brought to you by Odd Company Brewing in the Nation beer. Everyday logger, a crisp, clean logger crafted not just for game day, but for everyday two locations in Edmonton, downtown or the Richie location, which has tremendous pizza. Um, cake talk aside, I had a fun question asked of me in the daily faceoff live YouTube. As you know, I’m still very, very excited about my beloved Toronto Blue Jays making it to the World Series being in the building. Awesome. I know I talked about that on Tuesday, but someone asked me, “What’s the Oilers goal that you’ve seen that’s closest to that Springer moment where like, you know, one that maybe you were in the building for that you got to experience?” Um, where like you went from despair to elation in moments. Despair. There’s two I thought of very very quickly. Okay. I wasn’t in the building, but I was at home. Um, there’s two actually. I mean, Evan Bousard’s goal against Vancouver in the playoffs a couple years ago where the Canucks came back from two nothing down and Buchard’s scored with like 30 seconds left. We were in the building for that one. Dakota Joshua, I looked it up today. Dakota Joshua tied it up with a minute a minute 41 left in the game and we were bummed. It was like dead quiet in there. And then the Oilers with 30 seconds off Bousard’s wrist or wins the game. I and and granted it led to us losing, but Corey Perry scoring the tying goal in game two of the Stanley Cup finals when we were down and clawed back. Yeah, I I I know it led to a loss, but in that moment that was insanity. Yeah, that’s a great one. The other one I was thinking of was McDavid’s overtime winner against Calgary. And I know they were going to be up they were only going to be down 3-2 and it’s kind of diff they would have been up 32 but Calgary put in a good effort. It was obviously the disallow goal. It just kind of felt like they were pushing and then so the other one for me and I think it was to it was in the elimination game but we weren’t like it wasn’t dis we weren’t in despair but it just was such a powerful signal when McDavid walked Hasten in. Oh yeah. and scored. And that was the elimination game. That was game six. That was just like, “Holy [ __ ] we’re doing this.” Yeah. Um the other one that again, if I was trying to just think of like the jump from being so bummed to so hyped this last year against LA, the Evander Kane goal review where like there’s 10 minutes left in that hockey game and I was in the crowd. The place was dead. It was you’re staring down the barrel of at that point being down three nothing to the LA Kings in that series and it was like they were down I believe two goals with 10 minutes to go, right? Yep. And it was like this is it. Like we’re watching them. The Kings are finally getting us. And then Kane scores goal goalie review challenge power play. Like you legitimately went in a matter of like 3 minutes from being like we’re down three nothing and the Kings like you’re not coming back on them to like we’re right back. This series is ours. That one was such a big jump. And it’s the cool part about baseball where like you don’t get it as much in hockey, but like in baseball, one swing of the bat, three runs, like you go from being like we’re hooped here to like oh my god, we’re six outs away. And that Oilers goal against the Kings was the only one that I think really truly captures that wild of a swing cuz those other ones like even McDavid and OT, you’re nervous as hell going into OT, but it’s like, all right, next goal wins. Like we got a shot here. The true swing of that game against LA was something. Yeah, I’m lucky right now. That game actually ended 74 in favor of the Oilers. Okay. So, I don’t remember it being the highest scoring. When was it still a two-goal lead for the Kings since you have the box score in front of you? So, the Kings would never had a two goal lead. Oh, it was only a onegoal lead. So, yes, the Oilers were up two nothing in that game. Then they ended up going down three to two with 5 minutes left in the third period. Connor Brown tied it before the end of the second, but then Trevor Moore regained the lead 9 seconds later. So it was 4-3 going into the third period. Uh 1318 Evander King got his goal which was obviously uh reviewed 632 or 642 left in the game and then 10 seconds later Evan Bush’s scored on the power play. Yeah. So you went from being down late to up one in a matter of a couple minutes. Um Zan Xanax said a really good one in there. Um the Pani OT short-handed 06. That one too. Like you see your guy go to the box in a Stanley Cup final elimination game and then all of a sudden a minute later you’re celebrating a win in the series coming back to Edmonton. That one is pretty significant too. I just realized if Liam work with me on this. Okay. That looks like a Dodgers hoodie, doesn’t it? Uh yes, it kind of does actually. I wonder what those look like. Probably exactly the same. They must have made Yeah, they must They’re like sweet. We get to do one color. We got it dialed. The most efficient World Series ever. Um, this is going to be a topic on real life. Download the Real Life podcast, wherever you get your podcast from, later on this afternoon. Um, but I was talking to someone outside the stadium who was giving me some of the numbers on how much the Jop has been making. And apparently the day of game seven, the Jop made $900,000. Damn. And he said the previous best game he’d ever seen was like 550 or something like that. Crazy. Like, you know what the Masters like the Merch 10 does? Like a million dollars an hour. Oh, and I mean that not to not to flex and dunk on that stat because that’s a great stat. Fine. There you go. Yeah. Goes to show how much eat all your cake, too. Have your cake and eat it, too. Um, all right. Let’s get into a little bit of current day Edmonton Oilers stuff. Um, it is a game day. Edmonton taking on Montreal. Um, we won’t do the betting segment yet, but I’ll be honest, looking at this line, this is an Oilers team that is sputtering along right now. This is a Habs team that is firing on us. I know it’s you almost got to bet the Habs because that’s where the the the plus 190 is insane. Well, we can look at it a different way. Samuel Montenbo hasn’t won a game yet this season and he’s a dying goalie for the Habs and has an 850 something save percentage. Okay, why don’t you go on a rant about Montbo like you did about um Hey, I’ve calmed down. Big save Dave. Let’s do that. Let’s manifest another big giant L. Well, Big Save Dave did well. First time he’s done it in like five years against the others. He was due. Well, you were pretty harsh. Deservedly so. That guy typically sucks. You want to be on big save Dave side in this? I mean, you don’t go so egregiously after him. Hockey gods are a thing. Those were stats, not real stats and facts. But it’s it’s stats, but it was with the tone. It’s like how he talks about Matias Yanmark. Can’t do it without being aggressively backhanded. Didn’t I didn’t score a goal with a stick last season if I remember correctly. I also argue big save Dave started it by throwing that stick. You didn’t start it. I just finished it. I just spread the stats. Nothing I could do with attitude. With disrespect. You’re damn right. He’s an NHL goalie. Izzy. And you disrespected him so much that we lost to him somehow. I think we lost to ourselves to be fair. Yeah. And Bo Horvat. He was really good. Yeah. Barcel. Oh, and uh we we had a defenseman that had a really good game, too, that had some nice assists. Oh, yeah. You can’t say anything without a condescending tone. Backhand tone. Talk about talk about disrespect. I’m very consistent with my stance. And that was Dave. And it’s a very ironic. I don’t attack his character. I just call out his mistakes. I didn’t attack his character. That is a crazy line. Crazy. Um I didn’t even mention his name because I don’t even like it’s like Yeah, because you don’t have to. They go multiple books without saying Voldemort in Harry Potter, but we all know what they’re talking about. Really? Oh, yeah. Because you can’t say his name because then the Death Eaters come. Yeah. Try saying Candyman three times and see what happens. Cake shows up. Um, anyways, I’m just surprised to see that line where it was considering this is a Havs team. And I saw Yanny’s comment being like PDIO north of 102, their luck runs out tonight. I I don’t know how much of this is like they’re not going to win six of every eight games all year. They’re not going to have a 750 points percentage, but they’re buzzing. But they are buzzing. Like I mean a 750 points percentage last year would have been far and away the best team in the NHL. That’s like 130 point pace, I think. Like it’s crazy. They’re not going to be that good all season. But they are deep. They have some good young talent. All of a sudden, their defense are amazing. Well, yeah. Like I And we’ll talk studs. We’ll talk about the the rebuild a bit more with with Maxim at 1:00 from Le Pash Blur. Um, is that how I’m supposed to say it or do I just blur? Yeah. Leash or LPB, whatever you want to do. You look at this blue line and it’s like even last year when they just scooped up Alexander Kerier from Nashville and bought low on him. Like you look at him now slotted in Nashville, he was over his head. in Montreal now he’s slotted as a good defensive three RD and like Dobson comes in there now all of a sudden Hudson doesn’t have to play a ton of five on five minutes they’re putting him in positions to succeed Mat Dobson is like a really really good high-end top pairing they’re good man and Montbo struggling I I get that another interesting angle is Montbo played himself off the Olympic team 100% he shouldn’t he didn’t even play himself onto the team last year he just there wasn’t they just took him I don’t really because he played at world championships once like if they don’t take Logan Thompson, which that I don’t think they will cuz they’re scared of the Aiden Hill Logan Thompson thing. Oh, yeah. An angle I didn’t think of, but like you have to take Logan Thompson. You can’t take Monttobo again. Steuart Skinner’s got a 909. Take that guy. I mean, he’s probably more in the conversation than he’s ever been before. Like based off his actual player, not based off like, well, look what this guy did last year in the cup playing in the playoffs and stuff like that. I don’t know what Canada’s going to do. Yeah. Well, Bennington should go because he did so well at the for nations. But I mean, but I there’s a world where Bennington you’re not a good start to the season either. It’s uh stakes aren’t high enough. I mean, honestly, maybe. Guy’s proven. He’s got an 894. Yeah. I mean, goalending is one of those things. I see his G. I haven’t seen him play yet. Yeah. So, you can’t give him a Liam quality start grade. No, I’d have to go through Yeah. and watch. Um, of the goalies in the NHL this season who have played five or more games, there’s 21 of them. Uh, Stuart Skinner ranks in the top 10 out of those 21 in save percentage. He is that’s where we need him. Yeah. 909 a tick, call it above average. I’m happy with 909. Um, but you go look at the goalies who are below him. And this is kind of my point. Montbo is not in here because he hasn’t played enough hockey games. Um, but is the worst. Sroken, Dustin Wolf, Aiden Hill, Joey Dort, Anthony Stolars, Jordan Bennington, Jakeer, Philip Gustoson, Jeremy Swayman, Lucas Doto, Jussi Sorrowos. Those are all the goalies ranking below them. And seven of those guys, of the 12 that I just rattled off, seven of them are below a 900. A few of them by a pretty big gap. So, it’s been a weird start to the year for a lot of goalies around the league. The Islanders fired their goalie coach six games into the season. You can do that. Oilers fans respect that. Yeah, they did it because H Hots was telling me about this today on DFO Live. I guess the goalie coach they have in the AHL was Sroken’s goalie coach in Russia that they brought over and Sroen struggling. He’s struggling along right now. So, it’s just like an easy little like, yep, you’re gone. Sroken’s guy’s in here now. Um, but anyways, point is goalending aside, this Montreal team has been one of the best stories in the NHL in the early going. They’re generating at high rates. They’re scoring at high rates. And even in the games where maybe they don’t get a bunch of goals like last night against Calgary and they are playing on the second half of a backtoback. Um the nights where they’re not generating a lot like Jakob Dobish gave them an excellent start last night in the dark. Did you guys see that? Nothing surprised me anymore about the sad dome. The dome is a dome. But also they just I was like I don’t know if you saw the videos like they were just playing with half the lights on. Yeah. Respect. I don’t really understand how they were allowed if it was a safety issue. the park doesn’t glow in the dark last time because they want to get out of there as quick as possible. They were like, “We don’t know what else could be breaking here. Like, we got to get this game played.” Um, but you’ll have that sometimes at like a beer league rank somewhere where you’ll be like halfway through the game and then they’ll turn on more lights and you’re like, “Oh [ __ ] I didn’t even know those lights were off and everything seems way more bright.” So focused, can’t even tell. Yeah, just dialed in. Dialed right in. Um, some interesting notes here and maybe this is a good time to get into our lineup report uh for the Edmonton Oilers. Um, Matt Seavoy is going to get a look up the lineup tonight, gentlemen. Um, you may have manifested it with your bet, which we’ll talk about later on, but uh, what do we make of Matt Seavoy up on the top line with Conor McDavid and Leon Dry Settle? I say welld deserved. I mean, he was very, very noticeable against Ottawa. Um, and it seems like he’s getting better with every game or more comfortable uh, with every game under his belt. And my lord, is he getting some great chances. Uh, and it’s a matter of when, not if, with that guy. Yeah, I agree. I think every game has been shown a different level of trust with him, too, to get bumped up to the first unit power play against what was that Detroit, I think it was. Uh, obviously, he’s been on a penalty kill all season and even last game to get the the the back end of that overtime power play shift to win the faceoff. He’s clearly building up some back. Yeah, he’s doing he’s done a really good job and obviously only one point in the season which was the the overtime assist, but I think if you’ve actually watched him play and you’re not just looking at the box score, he’s been recognizable every night. How are we feeling about Jackie Boy? John? Do you know his name is John? You just I call him Jack. That’s fine. He calls himself Jack, but his name real name is John. John Rosvic. I know. I didn’t like it. You told me that and I said, “Dude, you’re you’re a Jack.” I have a That’s how it came to be. I have a buddy that we went to school with growing up and we used to play hockey with him where his real name is John, but he likes to go by Alex, but as he’s gotten like into his late 20s, he he introduces himself to new people as John. So, it’s created this very awkward thing where like, “Oh, yeah, you know, Alex.” And people like, “What?” Or like his girlfriend calls him John, but we all call him Alex. Uh, no. Pick a You had to make that call in like grade four. Yeah. And you live with your choices is what I in grade four. I had a decision to make. I was My parents named me J Ryan, so they call me JR. All my family calls me JR. A lot of your close friends still call you J.R. Yes, cuz they’re connected to the family. I never knew that. In grade four, I made a decision. Am I going to be JR or J? And I went with Jay in grade four. So changed my name. You know, you put your name on the front of your desk. Yeah. I don’t know if you still do that. I probably have a digital board there. I used to draw it on there. Chat GPT or something. Draw it on there. And I I went from grade three Jr., grade four J, and never looked back. Family called close friends, then all that. That’s still fine. I still respond to it, but at least it’s a similar name. Yeah. Um, do you regret it? Uh, you know, there’s there’s a lot of nostalgia. Like there’s I love going back to Saskatchewan and everyone’s calling me J.R. like something just feels makes it feel like home. Feels cool about it. But yeah. Um, so to the John Jack Rosik and the question at hand, JJ, can we call him JJ? Sure. JJ Ros. Yeah, that actually flows. How do we feel about him? He’s been inconsistent. Mhm. He has done very little to deter me from the initial take I was given, not the take I had that he is just Jeff Skinner. I’m not ready to put anything too heavily on him. He didn’t do anything. Well, I mean, he drew a penalty in both games over the weekend. He’s a penalty. He got the assist in the overtime winner. I think he’s up to two assists now on the season. He moves much better. The only talk ill will about Johnny boy over here. He didn’t get an assist on the OT winner. Was he another one? Was that Nooch that won the draw? He got kicked out of the draw. Did he? Yeah, he got kic Didn’t he go to Ros? I know. I went to EK. My apologies. He was on the ice plus one. Um, do you know the No, it was on the power play. He doesn’t get a plus for it. [ __ ] The only forwards that have a more time on ice than him at five and five are McDavid and Dry Settle. I think he’s been fine. I just don’t have any expectations for him like right now. We talked to Rob Shrimp about it yesterday and he said he’s like when you come into a team like he did he what is it Aaron? He said he’s like his old coach told him he’s like you need probably about 10 games to get really comfortable. Every level, every league, every new team he’s on, he said 10 games is the what’s always been in my career. So let’s give him 10. And I’m not willing to write them off. No, no, no, no. Just I just wanted to check in. I I’m not writing them off at all, obviously. I am just also a little bit of the mindset. I thought there would be maybe a few more steps forward here. Again, he’s not been brutally right. He’s drawing penalties. He’s doing some things, but like five games in, he’s got himself one point. I thought there’d be a bit more there from Ros. How many goals have they scored since they brought him in in those five games? So, when he started in the Rangers game? Yeah. Two, four, seven, nine, 12 goals in five games. I think there’s more players to be concerned about on this team than Jack Rouse right now. Frederick we have not seen since he scored the goal. But he scored a goal. He has scored a goal. He has as many points as Rosik. Yeah. Um Jack Rosik has eight shots in five games. And if you are leading the team in five or third on the team in 5v5, I would like a little bit more but one of those games he didn’t have any shots either. I suppose too. So I would a game. I think he’s been fine. Like I I again like I just not willing to put too much stock into him at the moment. feel like he’s got an order at Sports Closet for Ross jersey. I say you I’m surprised you are actually you seem to be defending him a little bit which is fine. Like it’s good. Finally found I just I don’t know. I’m just not ready to Yeah, my guy his soft spot there just I just think these other players have bigger worries. 5v5 shots per 60. He is eighth on the Edmonton Oilers. He is behind McDavid dry settle Tomasic Nuts and Captain Phil. Oh, what? Oh, what did I do? something that triggered you a little bit there. Talk about David Tamasic sparkling analytics, Liam. Oh my goodness. Is he an analytics darling? Oh, buddy. Second coming to Pary, you better be ready for it. Oh man, I just I want to and I’m not going to name names. I’m not going to call this person out. He’s a He’s a team member. He’s teammate. But the fact that you are willing to publicly say that Pulley Harvey makes people on his line better, hell yeah, is the craziest thing that could ever have been said. I’m with you in the sport of hockey. 100%. And I love the Bison King. I was a big fan. You had a Bison King jersey. I still have a Bison King jersey. First game you wore it to. And that’s a moment of time. Yeah. First game you wore it to, I remember we went together, he had like two goals against Columbus. It was electric. I mean, it was meant to be. and and and that jersey was only going to have one night in it and we got it. But we got it. We we just you just can’t go all in on analytics and say this type of [ __ ] cuz it’s just crazy. It’s just it’s both. You can just watch the game and be like, “Oh, this guy’s actually not doing that much tonight.” Oh, but his analytics said he was on the ice seven shots, three games. Like, what do you do? Have a line change and a shot at the same time? Like like [ __ ] Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So, walk me through Thomas. He He looks He looks more natural out there than Pulley Harvey. Yes, we agree. I agree. Okay. Okay. We can build from that. He’s got he’s much much more cleaner mechanics. Yes. Not so gangly. Here’s I actually I think it was on Monday’s show, right, Aaron? I I changed my stance on Thomas. Oh, here’s my here’s my stance. And I’ll say it again for those of you who didn’t hear. My expectations were just way too high. I thought this guy was going to come in, have a good start to the season. We spoke about him being a wild card. Thought he could hit 20 goals. I’ve now just decided he’s a fourthline player that might chip him like five to seven. And that’s fine. 10 games. Well, that’s Yeah. And again, I’m It’s early in the season. Well, that’s why like I’m not I’m really trying to have the mindset of like I’m not freaking out about anything this year. Like I might not I might have a I might not have a really strong stance on someone negatively until Christmas. I might just be willing to chill. I’m willing to let things fly a little bit, too. Here’s what I’ll say. Just one more on Rosik, though. You said the 10 game mark. His 10th game is going to come next Thursday against the Rangers. Mhm. Chris Knobblock said today, eyeing up November one for Zack Heyman. Yeah, he would not be the guy I would take out of the lineup. No, I don’t think he would be my guy either. I I just don’t understand that narrative that people are pushing already. I It’s just a huge coincidence, I think. Like, it’s Sorry, I should miss rephrase that. It’s obviously in there for a reason and this isn’t nothing. And 10 games and Heyman are both two interesting benchmarks to consider that they’re both going to happen, right? This is no trade clause changes, but moving on from him would just be silly. Like we’re going to come to the trade deadline if we move him on be like, “Damn, we need a top six forward.” How can we get one under two million? Where are we going to find that? It’s like, well, you actually had it, but you traded away and it didn’t work for 10 games. I Well, yeah, we don’t know if he’s a top six forward yet, though. Middle six forward. Like a guy who could chip in minutes. You know what I mean? like something goes wrong. Like for example, last season different players again I’m not comparing the actual two players but like Hyman goes down but you know you have Rosik maybe chips in with a few more goals you don’t have to pop show up like Kappan for example and another thing is that we spent so much oxygen over the last 10 days we’ll call it oh what are they going to do here what are they going to do here then Kapan’s out for seven weeks and then let me give you the update knobblock had this is from our pal Zach Lang um when knobblock scrum quote not coming back anytime soon on Yanmar. Yanmark Matias Yanmark. Yeah, this was after the Ottawa game. That is these injury things through the Oilers. They This is the Arbitson thing all over again. Love to lie. Love the way you lie. Thank you. Um yeah, I just I don’t know, man. I There’s a chance that Yeah, you need to keep guys like Yammer cuz I shouldn’t say there’s a chance. There’s never a guarantee that everyone’s healthy at the same time. No, I completely How many teams in the NHL are ever 100% healthy at the same time? And you could argue the Oilers up until really the bitter end of last season had a great run of luck for a couple years. Couple years no one was getting hurt and I think we maybe just got a little bit too used to that. Guys are always going to get banged up. So yeah, I’m with you. E even if Rosik isn’t taking solid steps forward by next Thursday, by game 10, I think another thing to cut him a break on is he joined the Oilers, they immediately went on the road, which you can maybe say like ah played at home, but like he’s not comfortable here yet. He hasn’t played home games. They haven’t put him in good matchups. Like there’s so many reasons to think that like he’s got better hockey at him. So I’m not all that worried. Let’s give a home game, but just one then go on the road again. Yeah. On the road for two. How fired up will we for Vancouver this weekend? I’m excited. I’m very excited. I love Vancouver. It’s a beautiful city. Yeah. fans. Yeah, I can live without. Yeah, but that’s fine. I’m with my pack. Um, Saturday, that is an 800 p.m. Edmonton puck drop. 7 p.m. Vancouver. 7 p.m. Vancouver. Doing our watch party. Are we telling people where it is? Uh, no. Cuz it’s a private event. Oh, private event. So, only for our uh Asian vacation. Yeah, because it’s it’s a small play small venue and they’re opening it up just for the vacation. What’s their TV situation like? six o’clock first pitch which will be five o’clock first pitch. They have multiple TVs. I assume they’ll do they’ll have like a big giant screen projector which game would be on and then probably the other TVs they can Okay. I just wanted to really cuz like I’ll be there for for I might be putting in a shift at this function. It’s going to be a long night. Well, I’ll do pregame. Deal. No takes these backies. Yeah, because then you can watch the game. Yeah. And then when he’s done. Yeah, I appreciate that. Oh, and then yeah, I’ll do pumpkin. Yeah. Oh, you know I had someone else can do. I don’t know. I’ll be I’m sure I’ll be in great shape. Exactly. Um, okay. Let’s finish up our line of report from tonight with Seavoy going up to play with Connor and Leon. N is going to send her a second line that has Mania and Rosik. I I get a little bit of the sense with Mania and I know we bring this up a lot. I think we’re going to say the same thing, but go ahead. like the Enis line that he told us from years ago where like it is hard to adjust playing with Connor and Leon. Many looks like he gets the puck when he’s out there with Connor and Leon and the only thing in his brain is how can I get this puck back to Connor? Same with Bud Coulson. Yeah, but Coulson is forcing so many you got to keep him away from him that he always looking for dry or whatever. I’m like dude what are you doing? And I think like Freddy maybe had it a little bit too cuz they move him off and bang he goes and like shows off some speed and scores. I think it’s very difficult to find a guy as dumb as this might sound who smart enough to play. Like honestly, that’s not that’s not bad. It’s a different style. Like Zach should be teaching how to play with them. Uh bringing up some tips. Yeah. Yeah. Just like this is this is just what you do. This is what they’re looking for from you. So you focus on that. And if you got a clear lane, they want you to carry the puck. Yeah. Because then they’re going to go somewhere open. Give them a chance. Or just go stand by the goddamn post and they’ll find you. Yes. And then go and chase pucks out of the corners. Like it’s it I I get it. I’d probably I’ I’d probably have an aneurysm on the ice trying to like compute what the hell I’m seeing and being like, “Shit, I got a I’ve got a minor example. I was I played I played in an alumni game and Smitty was on my line.” Oh. And well, all you want is to assist. All I want to do is pass to Smitty. And Smitty’s a gamer. He’s playing hard and I’m I’m pod coolesing him passes cuz I’m like I got to give to Smitty that’s my guy. I felt like such a [ __ ] idiot and he’s probably like why is this guy throwing grenades at me? Oh anyways um the the other thing with Seavoi he was always the guy like he knows how to be the guy so he probably knows how to play with the guy. To play with the guy you got to be the guy. Yeah. Many Pani was and like what was he a six round pick? He was ever the guy, but he’s he’s a sniper, so he need once and he once again, but he he played with elite skill, but obviously not as ever as elite as these two, but in Calgary when he had 35 goals, he played with Backland and Coleman. Just be a trigger man. So, here’s a fun fact. Aaron told me this fun fact. When he was playing with McDavid and Dryidol, he did not have a shot. That’s what I mean. Like he Right, Aaron. That was some And I even think what you brought up of like a guy who’s just going to go to the net and and I think Frederick almost got too obsessed with only doing that. He was like, I need to go to the net and park myself in front and then every other part of his game suffered cuz he was just too onetrack mind. Go to the net. You’re a power forward now. And like you need someone who’s going to be comfortable enough in their own game. Zachman. Zack Heyman is the like it’s cuz he wasn’t afraid to hold on to the puck on the cycle and like do all these other kind of things, right? Yeah. Right. I think it’s Bamearoon. Yeah. Um, so I’m excited for Seavoy. Is he going to be a long-term answer? Yes. I really hope they give him an honest shot at it. I hope we don’t get to period number two and it’s manipony back up there or I hope we win. If we win, that’ll buy him time, right? Yeah. So, you got you got to give him a chance. Yeah. Can’t let Ryan Mloud be traded in vain, you know. Yeah. I’m in that big contract now. Also, I can’t stop thinking about your Cogiano comparison. This boy? Yeah. I’m just I’m just out on it. Oh, you don’t like it? No, I think he’s just so much more offensively gifted. And that’s Jordan Everly. He could be faster. Yeah. I just think of like look at Zack Benson right now in Buffalo. He’s having a great start to the season. Yep. You know who was better than him and Junior and they were on the same team? Matt Seavoy. you know, who made the NHL as an 18-year-old and had I agree. 30 points. He’s I mean, he’s Yeah. Yeah. But I just think like if he’s doing it and he’s way smaller than Seavoy. Seavo is a way better skater. I think is Seavo how Seavo is small. Yeah. He’s like 5’9. But Zack Benson’s like 5’7. He’s 5’10. Yeah. Is he round up? But he’s like like Benson’s a bit more of like a pit bull and like I guess Seavo is not Well, I wouldn’t say Seavo is a pitbull. I think he’s working his way towards it. He’s got a motor. I think he I mean, look at the way he was the other day, just flying into the net on that chance against Ottawa. I think he’s got it in goal hungry. But that’s who he is. Yeah, I think he’s got it. I think he’s I think some time will come and they’ll be like, “Oh [ __ ] the got that guy for Amloud.” I’m I’m down for giving him a chance cuz for the whole Well, at least like maybe just weld him there until Heyman gets back. Yeah. Yeah, totally. Or maybe when Simon comes back, you can just play them all on the same line cuz Sahiman plays off his offwing too. And yeah, fair. Yeah, I feel like and we don’t need to go like fully into this conversation again because we’ve done it a lot, but like my Koganiano thing is not a slight This is a guy who had a 20 goal season. I agree. I just think Seavoya is like a 30 goal season potentially. I think I I think there’s higher skill level and this is not even a slight Koganiano amazing NHL. you’d want him on your team any day of the week as like a third line checker. Um there’s there’s there’s the this the there’s a higher ceiling on the skill set I think of Seavoy and and this is an interesting opportunity for him to to grab hold of a spot like that and like this might be an overreaction and I know I said I wasn’t going to overreact until maybe Christmas. this next week. This next week might determine if Matt Seavoy is going to have a 50point season or if he’s going to have a 30-point season, right? Because if he sticks and has a good run with Connor and Leon, that might really change the way this coaching staff views him. If the next three games don’t go well, yeah, then we might not see him get another opportunity like this. This might be a pretty important time. Maybe. I don’t know. I think he’ll be fine either way. Savo has 30 goal potential. And again, I do not want to make this sound like I’m slighting Matt Seavoy. At this stage in on at this stage in Andrew Kagalaniano’s career, were we not talking about him having 30 goal potential? I was 14 years old. So Jay, I will lean on you. There was there was there was the excitement of the Ge Nielsson Kiano line. Yeah. for a brief moment in time when Kaggaliano goes backtoback 18 goal seasons to start his NHL career people were probably having the like yeah and it’s not like I again if you gave me any amount of odds right now I bet on Matt Avoy playing a thousand games in his NHL career I think he is that smart of a hockey player scoring at the NHL level as we talked about 30 goal guys are very very hard to find that is like the 1% of the 1% or something close to it Mhm. Especially when you don’t get power play time, which is something that But he’s already been bumped to the power play. Like they went out of their way to scratch a guy and thought this is our guy to put on there. They tr they and a week from now is he going to get any power play time with Zachman back? I don’t know. But maybe maybe an injury happens again. We just spoke about how often they’re happening and they’re like going on the power play again. Well, to your point, he’s got a very important week in front of him. Yeah, he really does. Of course, the issue. Seven players last year scored 30 uh even strength goals. You know who’s a player comparable? I mean, I’m not saying it’s happening this year. He doesn’t have the size of a Hegel though. That would be the thing that separates him there. But like Hegel was a guy and my my concern is always like it’s very rare that you see a guy who comes in and you know so 10 games into his NHL career. So it’s not time for this conversation. But very rare where you see a guy come in and wait. Oh, all a sudden they pop and they’re scoring 30 goals when they never really did that much as Adrien Kempe. Yeah, Kee is another good example. You’re right. You can find him for sure. Oh, if he turned I mean Matoy this is dumb but if he turns into Adrien Kempe Lord Matthew N did it. Oh [ __ ] 29 goals. I would love immediately came in and was scoring. Yeah 15 goals as a rookie. Yeah. So he might hit if he gets 13. There’s not much of a difference at two goals. That’s fair. That’s fair. We’ll see. Um so we talked about the forward or Philip’s going to center Coulson and Frederick. Henrik’s going to center Ike Howard and David Tamasic. Shout out to Ike for his first NHL goal. Um, that was also very funny because like he’s out there with Connor and Leon after a penalty and he scores and it’s like maybe maybe you should put him in there. Yeah, maybe you should play your young guys with skill and they might score when they get opportunities. He might be of the right mindset to play those guys cuz he just might not. Yeah, he might I’ll rip pucks. Yeah, exactly right. It’s you almost might rip him too much. And we can go back to that play that began the road trip that got him scratched was him trying to do too much. Yeah, I don’t think he’s there yet. But he can just be the ripper. But I think ripping just be the if Conor just be the ripper. Yeah, if Connor and Leon were Conor and Leon. Sure. Last on team. That’s I think they deserve the puck a bit too. 97 shooter one day. Uh D pairings really quick. Echol Nurse Wman Koulak Emerson. Darnell Nurse needs to figure it out. Yeah, that’s about all I want to talk about with the blue line. That pairing had 10 blocks combined last game. Nurse and one. That’s encouraging. Encouraging. That is good. I think. Did you think about that in your betting? I almost did. I’m not going to lie. I had a I had a screenshot clipped. I’m ready to email to Aaron. I changed my mind. I was working on a shot prop. I’m like, “Oh my god, this plays plus400.” And then I bet it and then I was like, “Oh shoot, this is points.” Oh. So, do you have like Wman getting three points tonight? I had Leon four points, Connor two, and Bouch two. It was plus like,400. I’m like, sweet. So, last game Wman had four, Nurse had six. If you bet Wman and Nurse to each go four plus tonight, plus 2600. Oh, let’s do that as a squad ride. Yeah. Yeah. You’re reading the bankroll. Oh, I was going to say we usually don’t dabble in those areas. Boursy’s bankroll is known to get into a good block shot. Yeah. Um, well, you know what? On that note, boys, let’s get into it then. For our friends at Bet365, download the app today. Use the promo code nation. Whatever the moment, it’s never ordinary at bet 365. Game day betting challenge time. Liam made a spreadsheet. Did you hit your bet last game? I sure did, J. I moved into first place. And that was plus 400. No, it was only plus like two 250. You love spreadsheets. Who doesn’t love a good spreadsheet? Hey, man. I’m in. You got your codes in there and it’s beautiful. All right, so uh look at that. Yeah, who can but who can see that? I can zoom it in for you. Yeah, that like by a factor of 90. So this is just going to keep our stats for us and I’ll go monthto month. I’m currently up 1.6 units. Okay, we got all of Tyler’s minus one and then uh G uh minus minus four units. Yeah, it’s okay. Four. So there you go. There’s a quick look at our stats for the for the season. Have you seen him grab photos? I was way better than last year’s. It was What did you use the other day when you put out the show post that Dubnick and Shrimp were our guest? You used like Dubnick’s head shot from Junior from his time with the Arizona Coyotes and Shrimp. I think you did the Islanders. That was all that Google had. Uh, all right. Stewart Skinner quality start meter. He’s got Bohawk from like the Southside Athletic Club. No, that was his rookie year draft picture. Wow. Um, okay. Let’s get to our picks for today, boys. Uh, this mech three shots, McDavid, three shots. Hand up. You can call me a bad Oilers fan if you want to. I’m nervous about them getting the win tonight. I have zero interest in laying them at minus 220 to win tonight. That’s the only reason. So, I’m just going shots, shots, shots, shots, shots, shots, shots, shots, shots, shots, shots, shots. Everybody and not everybody. Just booing McDavid. Three plus each plus 155 on the payout. Is it me? Uh, a noo night over one and a half shots, noos point plus 125. I am not worried about them winning this game tonight. I think So why didn’t you put the money line in? Uh, I just felt like it was going to do nothing to my You cannot say you’re not worried about them beating a team that’s six and two. Only as Yes, I can. They’re using a goalie that hasn’t won a game yet and the others have been dominant on. Why didn’t you do it? It would have taken you closer on home ice. Yeah, they had a one bad period and they lost to Calgary on home ice. They’ve played five of six periods. very well. I guess six of seven periods technically with the overtime. I’m not worried about them. I think they’re a good team. I think Montreal also gives up a ton of high danger chances. In fact, the fourth most in the NHL. All right. Okay. In overnight, but I just wanted to go with a noo night. Night plus 125 for LMJ. So, this makes this Thank you. This makes so much sense. I text this to the group chat. He he replies with bold Yeah, a guy now given his take on him, I now understand why he says it. You would say it’s the opposite of bold. You’d say it’s fantastic, which I don’t think is the opposite of uh lines already moved to plus 325. Got that in. Locked that in at like 6 a.m. folks. Sharp play by Yeah. So plus 425. Matthew Seavoy. He’s had so many good chances. It’s only a matter of when, not if. And now he’s on the top line. Like what? I think he’s at the post twice, too. Surprised he’s not minus 110 right now. Yeah, I agree. He would deserve that. Minus 110. I mean, it’s it’s it is that it’s almost that certain. You must be worried about getting a spray tan because of that bet. Uh, no, because even if you hit that today, I still think you’re behind me. Um, well, it would it’d be dependent on mine, but it would be I need you to lose. Yeah, it’s a big swing. How big was yours? Sorry. Two something. No. Plus 155. Wait, I’m positive units on the year, right? No. Oh, you’re one and three. Ah, Liam. Oh, you’re up one. I’m minus one. Yeah, you’re right. Oh, yeah, buddy. Jay could pass. You’re going to the spray tan lane. Stop the count. Um, plus 132 to get a point tonight, by the way. I I just wants to dabble that. I could go heavier on that, too. Um, okay. I don’t mind that. Um, anything else on the betting front that we need to discuss today? The block shot parlay. We’re doing four and four. Yeah. Do I have my phone? I have my phone. We’re going to squad right there. We’re going Wallman nurse. Three each. Four each. Four each. Four each. I mean that’s that’s what they do. He’s a wall man. It’s true. Nurse has gotten his last four games. And are we brave enough to sprinkle in with the money line? Nah. N. Why are you so worried about the money line? I don’t like the price. Okay, that’s all I’m a sharp. So you’re you’re not saying the other is going to lose. I’m just worried about the number. You think it should be closer? I’m also worried they’re going to lose. Why? Cuz Montreal’s good. Be brave. I bet parlay with Montreal. Plus 190. Come on, bro. That’s good odds. Oilers are too. All right, so we’re going four blocks each. Yeah. Plus 2600. Yeah. Wow. That is life-changing money. Lifechanging money. Um, okay. Continuing our game day conversations here. Uh, let’s do some game notes for our friends at Greta, our go-to party spot in downtown Edmonton. Arcade, bar, street food, TV setup, electric this weekend. Lots of sports on. If you’re in Edmonton, you won’t want to miss it. We’re also going to be out in their Vancouver location doing a little pre and postgame action on Sunday. Special guest potentially swinging by the the bar as well. What? It’s a secret though. I can’t tell you. Game notes. Um, Liam Habs, fourth most expected goals against in the NHL. You think this team is leakier than the surface stats are showing? I think Stop it. I just What? Whose side are you on? Why can’t I read the facts? I’ll read them with respect just given the last time that you didn’t. It didn’t work out. Okay, I’ll read them with some respect. With put some respect on the name. Yep. The Montreal Canadiens have the fourth most expected goals against in the NHL. 16.4. They have allowed 14. So, and then you wrote here they actually suck. Yeah, I did say that especially Montbo. Um, high danger chances against is 68, which is six in the NHL. The Oilers are also doing bad. They have allowed 57. I might bet Montbo shut out. You should not. I just might. Can you pull up my Monsombo graphics, please? Oh jeez. He just piles on. He came prepared. He piles on. We have to review the preview. Preview preview. We have to preview the game. Game. It’s a game preview show. A shot. You want his holes? What do you like on Goender is under your purview? Yes. Should have worded that better, but we see his holes. Look at that. Oh. So clearly right in the chest. Not a good spot for Montambo. He is 100% quick chest. Yeah. Yeah. in the chest this season. Uh high what’s that? High blocker and high glove seem to be the spots. Oh uh well N is a low blocker guy but low blocker in 93% on the low blocker. So maybe not N’s point tonight. But yeah, if they shoot high he’s vulnerable. And then can you pull up the other one too of where the shots have the goals have come from please? Is that his face? That is his face. Yeah. Uh got to get to the middle of the ice tonight. This is his. And then can you flip? Those are those are Habs goals against Matavoy has got that and he’s like that’s where I’m going to be. Caron figure it out. These are Habs goals against and then this is Oilers goals. Oilers goals four. Oh, four. This is Oilers goals four. So they are getting the red line. That’s Della’s back hand. Oh, of course, which is funny that it’s in there. But they are getting to the middle of the ice and that’s where Montreal seems to be getting exposed a little bit with Montbo in the crease. So, we do a vin diagram of the heat map and we should just score a crap ton of Yeah. So, what I’ll say to this is this is um this is this is Montreal just shots in general. So, that’s just some numbers them taking shots uh against sorry shots against um shots that actually went on goal to me tonight. I’m looking at guys like Frederick go to the net. Pod Coulson go to the net. Seavoi, whoever it may be. It’s been a problem the Oilers have had a little bit this season on the power play, but I think it got a little bit better last game in particular. Um, Boo just seems to be able to get shots close to the more on that I should say because guys are getting to the front of it. I I’m surprised how much they’ve missed Zachman. I think obviously Himman’s a great player, but I it’s interesting to see the areas that they’re struggling in are the areas that he thrives in. So there you go. There’s a little bit of shin pad goal tonight. That’s what that tells me going off a shin. Get to the net. This this Montreal blue line is good, but defensively how good are they? I think that’s the ultimate question. Like Lane Hudson, we all know how good he is. Scing up the ice. His defensive game has been questioned. They don’t have Kaden Guly. Uh Jacai and Tyler Strubble. Yeah, Stubble. Jane Stril. Young guys, younger guys, I guess you could say. Jakai’s been away a couple years now, but I think those are areas they can exploit with a bit of speed and direct attack. All South Hockey isn’t too bad some nights. All right, there you go. That’s my goalie review. Those are your game notes and our goalie review from Liam. You’re quickly becoming our goalie expert. Watch out, Doobie. How do you hold the stick? That’s a glove save, folks. Right hand catch. Do you catch that way? I don’t know. Like if I gave you a baseball glove, what hand would you want it on? Left. Okay. So you would play goalie like this. Gotcha. Never played before. Never played hockey. And Tyler, just so you know, this is the updated Steuart Skinner quality star meter. Quality star meter. Got three thumbs up. I still think that I think the Calgary game and the Detroit game could almost be flipped. I don’t I feel like they should be graded the same, but that’s fine. I just I mean I don’t think you’re wrong. Well, actually, I do clearly. Again, I think we talked about it anyway. It’s just that goal against Calgary lost them the game. The goal against Detroit didn’t technically lose them the game, but it didn’t help them win either. Um, I also had one other thing on Matthew Seavoy I wanted people to show because I wasn’t sure what you were going to say when you put in there uh talk about handling how does Seavoy. Did you want to go off that quickly? Um, yes. But just quickly, Aaron, I emailed you the facts for the Sports Closet giveaway. I realized I didn’t put them in here yet. Um, so while you get that ready, Liam, we’ll talk a little bit more and then we’ll give away the gift card. Yeah. Okay. So obviously there’s always the conversation of like how much rookies should play and I’m on the side of like let these guys give them a couple of games to let them ease into it. So I went back and I looked at this season and this time last season. So from the start of the season to October 23rd and just went from let me explain this one minute of SEO ice time up. So I think it was like 1316. So, we went to 1416 to 1 minute below to see the players who were in there and see what teams they were on and see how many games they were playing where and the players from last season where they ended up going. Bit of a complicated one, but once you see it, I’ll be able to explain it, Aaron, whenever you want to throw it up. But the point is a lot of the guy there isn’t many teams on there that are like legit cup contenders that are playing kids that are playing kids. The only one really this season that’s like particularly close is Toronto with Eastern Cowan, but he’s only played like four games, three or four games what it what it ended up being. But a lot of the guys who were playing um this time last year ended up going down. So the point and then other guys who were playing these minutes ended up elevating quite a bit. But Demadov is only playing a minute more of time on ice than Seavoy this year. Five on five or all strengths? All strengths. That’s really interesting to me. And I want to now while you keep talking, I want to pull up his five on five numbers. He has like six points in seven. He’s doing really really well. He’s a very very talented player. Yeah, he he was the number one guy. Like for example, this time last year, the one player that was notable to me and he he’s not on the list cuz he’s his time was like a minute 15 higher than Seavoy, but Marco Casper, he had only played two games at this point last season and he ended up people were talking about him like he might get some colder votes. Yeah. And he’s now he’s a second line center on the Detroit Red for Calder. Yeah. Yeah. Well, the point is like give these guys a chance to breathe. Yeah. And play in the NHL a little bit. And I coward bury them, push them. And like people are talking about like whip them. So Howard needs to be so high up the line. I was like, well, if you listen to Noblock the other day, he’s like they’ve been very happy with his progression. They want to give him a bit more power play time, but he’s obviously on the second unit, but they want to use him more, but they want to ease it into it a little bit, too. And now that these guys all keep getting injured, he’s probably staying in the NHL for quite a while. So, I think everyone should pump the brakes a little bit on Seavo and Howard. Order jersey today. I know I just said he’s gonna be a 30 goal guy. Didn’t mean this season. One day in his life. Maybe this season. I hope so. That would really help my narrative. Um, can I just quickly give you Matt Seavoy five on five time on ice per game 11:01. Ivan Demadov five on five time on ice per game. 11:07. There you go. It’s interesting. And I agree with you. I think there is something to Knobblock’s method of like let’s not go crazy early on in the season and play these guys like the grind to play an 82 in the NHL and I do think that is their goal for Matt Seavoi he’s not going to see Bakersfield this year if the goal is all 82 in the playoffs watch that pitch count a little bit to use a baseball term all right the one thing to you’re right there was only three players last season that played within a minute of either side of Seavoi that finished the season in the NHL uh Kagiki Macki Seamus who didn’t touch a playoff game uh Sorry, four. I don’t know how to say this guy’s name though. Russian guy got traded to Boston from Minnesota. Look it up in your own time. Uh, Kusnado Bingo and Will Smith. Okay. Who wants to win 25 bucks to our friends at the Sports Closet? Both of you ineligible. All of you in the YouTube chat, absolutely eligible, unless you’ve already won once this year. Uh, here’s how the game works. It is a player who played for both Edmonton and Montreal. I’m going to give you three clues. The first three people to guess it right in the YouTube chat get put into the prize wheel. Whoever wins the prize wheel gets $25 to sports closet to spend on some sporting goods, apparel I should say. Here we go. Aaron, clue number one. Remember, played for both Edmonton and Montreal. I am a defenseman who last played in the league in 2013. That is your first clue. So, you know it’s a Dman. You know they were playing in the league in 2013. Played for both both Edmonton and Montreal. Can I guess? Sure. Really? Oh, sure. Yes, you can give away the answer. I know. I’ll put it in the sheet. Yeah, sure. Put in the sheet. Clue number two. I also played for the Calgary Flames in between playing with the Oilers and the Habs. A defenseman. Played for Edmonton. Played for Montreal. Not Shawn Bell. No. Stopped playing in 2013. Was also with uh the Flames in the middle there. Oh boy. Last one I got for you. I was a first round pick in the 1992 NHL draft. Oh, I got it. I got it. Can I say it? Uh, well, no one’s gotten it. Oh, one person’s got it in the chat. Yeah, it was the It was the draft pick that did it. Yeah. OJ Gays, Andrew, and Oh, you got to get Matt. Roman Hamlick. Roman Hammerlick is your answer. Drafted in the first round in 1992 by the Tampa Bay Lightning. Found his way. Yeah. found his way to Edmonton in the Paul Comry trade which is part of the Mark Messier trade tree. No, it is. Um, so he was traded from the Lightning to Edmonton with Paul Comry. Oilers sent out Jason Bonsenor, Brian Marchmitt, and Steve Kelly. Couple of notable Oilers draft busts in there. Then the Oilers traded him to the Islanders for Brewer, Winchester, and Josh Green. Josh Green. That was the last time he was ever traded in his career. Only ever signed as a free agent or was claimed on waiverss after that. So there you go. Roman Hammer. Uh, Aaron, you got the wheel? Yes, I do. All right, 25 bucks to Sports Closet on the line. Our three finalists are locked in. Spin that wheel. Could be anyone. Could be OJ Gays. Well done, OJ. Email me OJ tylernation.com and I will get you in touch with our good friends at the sports closet. You got yourself $25 to buy some new swag. There you go. Get that Seavoy jersey. We’ll get you some jersey. Uh, all right. Good game day. Tell Max I say hello. We will tell Max you say hello. Tell him I’m going to come visit him soon. I Okay. All right. Who wouldn’t love a free a fun trip to Montreal? Okay downstairs. Oh, okay. Sure. It’s one thing more eliminated from ours. Yeah, I’ll put my globe a little bit higher. I suppose they’re they’re milking us dry up here in the in the upstairs studio. You should see the downstairs studio. Oh, I did. I don’t know where this budget came from. No, our mic stands are held together with literal tape. With literal duct tape. Anyways, is our guest here? All right, let’s go. Star mechanical guest line. Edmonton’s number one plumbing and heating company. You can find out more by visiting them online at star mechanical.ca. They’ve been in the Edmonton area for more than 20 years, and they are one of Edmonton’s largest, locally owned and operated plumbing and heating companies. Star Mechanical residential, commercial, 24/7 emergency service. They do it all. They do it well. as we welcome in a man who is a colleague of ours here at the Nation Network, Maxim Lapierre, also a former NHL. So, very qualified to be speaking with us today. Max, how you doing? I’m doing great. Great yourself, guys? We’re great. We are great. The Oilers are back on home ice after a long Eastern road trip to start the year, but these trips must suck for you in the Eastern time zone. These are late starts for you out there. Yeah, it’s always tough. Hey guys, before we start, good timing. Someone wants to say hi to you right here. We got our friend George Lorac. Oilers. Oilers. Let’s go Orers. Good job, George. Hey, George. Quick one. Are the orers going to win the cup this year? Uh, we need we need a goalie. You need a goalie cuz your your friends here in Edmonton were just chirping Montabu in Montreal. I would take Montu right now. Statement. He would think mabo. He just wanted to say hi, George. That’s awesome. Thank you so much. Let’s go order. I’m coming in this weekend. See you guys this weekend. Okay. I’ll be there this weekend. Thanks, buddy. Bye. That is awesome. That was That is very unexpected, Max. Thank you. George is just awesome, guys. He’s just the the biggest hockey fan they will be. I think you guys were lucky to have him in Edmonton. And again, he’s passionate and I think he’s a he’s a fan favorite. So I said, “Why not a little facetime with him?” You know, a player is beloved in a market when like 20 years after he played his last game here, you will still see like not one, every once in a while, every game you go to, you still see George Lorac jerseys. Of course. Of course. Such a good teammate, too. Uh let’s talk a little bit about this Montreal Canadians team. I think one of the better stories in the NHL, a 6-2 start to the year. And a lot of it is the usual suspects. Cole Cfield, nasty, clutch goals. Lane Hudson’s been good. But have there been some underlying positive surprises that have been fueling this team? There’s a there there’s no surprises, but I think we’re we’re playing a little better than we thought we would play cuz we we always forget that we’re the youngest state in the NH youngest team in the NHL right now. And I feel like some some sequence during the games we’re playing like a veteran team, but uh we see signs that we we need to be a little more mature because the last few games we play so well in the first period, we don’t play as well in the second. Then we play a good half of the third period and you can see that we’re a young team, but I think that the other teams are surprised with our speed right now with our transition game. I think we have a lot of skills. We have a lot of guys that are I don’t know want I don’t want to say unknown, but are playing really well, really structured hockey. I’m thinking in particular of Kenan. He’s a he’s a young centerman, but he’s uh I think people are are going to discover him tonight during the game. He’s very uh very strong defensively and pretty creative as well with the puck. So I think it’s a perfect match right now for Demidov because as you guys know we don’t really have the the second center we’re we were looking for this summer but for for now I think Kanan is doing a great job. I wanted to ask you about Montbo obviously you heard us talking about him before. Um not the greatest start to the season statistically but just to let you know I hate the save percentage start. I just don’t think it builds like a good narrative around goalies because sometimes the team just plays terrible in front of them and they can only face the shots that they face. But how has he actually been so far this season in these four games? He’s been okay. I mean, slow start for him. I think there’s a few goals he might want to have back. But uh uh at the same time, I I cannot stop thinking that last year without him there’s no playoffs in Montreal. I think he was really solid. He was unreal in the playoffs before he got hurt against Washington. I think the the main thing right now is Dobesh is so good that people forget that Mabu was really helpful last season and you know how it is in Montreal and in any Canadian market. There’s a new player playing great. The other guy is just old old and not good enough anymore. So I I think he’s going to find his game. I think it’s it’s one of the first year he might face adversity early on in this season. He’s been the number one goalender since last year, guys. So it’s still about experience for him. And I think every season doesn’t start the same way. there’s there might be extra pressure this year as well with the Olympics. So, I think if you put all that together, he’s going to take a little bit of time, but he’s gonna find his his game back. And the the good news is he has time because Dobish is doing great right now, and he he might be net as the number one for for the next few days. Expectations last year when Ivan Debidov came over were skyhigh. I mean, that frenzy at the airport when he was arriving was like insane. And like it can be hard for a guy to, you know, when the fan base and media is all just saying like future superstar, future superstar, like that’s a lot to live up to, but he’s been looking good early on this season. He got the cup of coffee last year. What’s the ceiling here? Like are you one of those people who thinks this is a guy who can one day get a 100 points in a season? 100%. I think he’s so good. And right now I I was listening to you guys. U his his ice time is a little limited. I think uh we we need to give him the first power play at one point. I think he needs to be surrounded with veteran players at one point during the season. But guys, he’s he’s spectacular. And I I played in a in a threeon-ree tournament LA this summer with all NHL players, which Chris Latan, David Peron, all all the the Quebec guys, and they all had the same speech. They see him as a future cooer. They they say he’s he’s that skilled. They say he’s that smart on the ice. They say he’s that strong on his skates. I mean, you know, it is if we have a coocher in Montreal, it’s going to be pretty intense for him and it’s going to be spectacular with the the core players we have right now because let’s not forget the the old core is young and they’re all signed long long term. So, I think we’re going somewhere pretty uh pretty pretty soon, guys. Let me just jump in quickly and this is going to be a bit of a long-winded question, but it ties in nicely to what you were just saying. And like it’s easy to forget that it was only like four or five years ago this team, this franchise went to a cup final with the Carrie Prices and the Shay Webbers and that core. And now all of a sudden you blink and it’s like they are already the next team up. That next young upand cominging group who a lot of people think are going to mature into a perennial Stanley Cup contender, not like a oneanddone. They’ve lapped other teams who have been rebuilding in the NHL. San Jose, Anaheim, those other those other front offices. What has this group with Hughes and Gordon, what have they done so well? What’s something that other organizations are going to look back on in a year or two and be like, man, we need to copy what Montreal did in this area? Like, what’s what’s allowed this rebuild to just go super hyperdrive and pass everyone else? I think it’s the contracts, guys. Like, you you look at the the the salaries for our first center, for Cfield, for Slavoski, for Hudson. And I think everyone left a little bit of money on the table. And it’s not everyone that’s ready to to make that sacrifice. You guys have won the your captain in Edmonton obviously, but uh it’s it’s special to see maybe six, seven, eight guys doing it. And I I think if we go back in time when Colorado won the Stanley Cup, they had the chance to surround Mckinnon and Macar because McKinnon’s salary was at seven or something like that was pretty low for a superstar player. So I I think it you you need to accept to leave some money on the table if you want to have good teammates and this this is what they’re doing well right now. I think this is why they’re going to be good for a long time. And the the other thing as well is they kept some veterans that were important to the team and had the good good habits on the ice. You know, you think of Brandon Gallagher last year, David Savar, like we you had type of players that are good. They’re good examples and they play the right way. I think uh you don’t you you don’t want to go get a guy that is 40 years old but had a good career and now he’s not skating anymore. You want people that are still active and they still play well but they take care of the kids and that’s what they’ve done. And again this year you got Madison, they went and got Kier last season to replace Savar. So I feel like they’re proactive. I think they’re doing a good job but they also have a vision. And when Gordon and you arrived in Montreal the first thing they said we want to be a transition team. We want to have speed. This is exactly what it is right now. Big splash this summer too from from that staff bringing in Noah Dobson. How how is he settled into life in Montreal? He’s doing great, guys. Honestly, I was expecting a guy that was a little more uh uh on the offensive side of the game, but he’s so good defensively. He’s so tall. He skates well. He’s got a good stick. And it’s a perfect pair for with Madison right now. The guys, they we we’re talking about the transition game, but it’s also about on the other side of the ice. They they’re so quick to to repair a mistake or to to to close the gap or to to to put some pressure in the defensive zone. They’re they accept their roles as well. It’s not easy for for a guy like Madison or Dobson not to be on the first power play. You know, like it’s you arrive on a team, you just sign a long-term deal, you’re the most paid defenseman, and they tell you, uh, you’re not on the first power play. That’s uh you got to be a good teammate to accept it. And I I think this is what was going to work right now. It’s the people accept their roles. they it was well explained to them and seems like we have a perfect team chemistry. Let’s maybe try to take this in a different angle then because I mean everything is so overwhelmingly positive but you know they’re they’re not going to win six of every eight games all season. If things were to if you had to pick a flaw for this Habs team, what’s the flaw? What’s the one area where they’re deficient? I I think I don’t like the center line. I think uh you you know like me if Suzuki gets hurt or something happened and he’s missing some games we’re kind of in trouble. We we need some depth at center. Guys are playing well though like I mentioned Kenan Evans is always playing sound hockey. Veno when he’s in the lineup plays well. We’re still waiting for Kirby Doc guys. Like I mean at one point I know he had some some injuries and all that but he’s going to have to make the decision to be an NHL player and have an impact at one point cuz you can use um uh injuries as an excuse for so so long. You know I think that’s it’s goal time for him but we need we need a sentiment that’s for sure. I think we’re fine in that. I know I know you guys were talking about mult but I’m pretty confident he’s going to he’s going to be good like he was last year. If not, we we have Doesh who is phenomenal right now. I like our decor right now. Like I feel like we have one of the best decor in the in the NHL at the moment. We we’re fast. We’re skating well. We have skills. And I think there’s a few players that are underrated like Stuall and Carrier Kier are are sound defensively. They they they hit. They’re physical. They clean the front of the net and they do their their their little jobs the the right way. And I I strongly believe this defense core can can win a Stelling Cup at one point. It is hilarious to hear us talk about Montbo’s struggles because the Oilers have been looking for a number one goalie for a long time and like Montbo Dobish and then you have Fowler coming up who’s regarded as one of the best goalies not playing in the NHL right now. Like there’s going to get to a point in Montreal probably in the next 12 to 18 months where that front office is going to have to cut one of those three guys loose. 100%. And and it’s a good point you’re mentioning right now because that’s that’s a net, but we also have the same thing in on defense. We have Reinbacker and the Miners, uh, Anstrom. We We have good defenseman coming up as well. And I feel like at one point we’re just going to use those assets to make a big trade and go get the the the missing pieces to win the the cup or to at least go further in the playoffs. And this is you were talking about the plan in Montreal and they did everything right. And I I mentioned the salaries and all that, but they also they also kept their young young group in the AHL and they also kept their their draft picks. It’s it’s basically a a magic trick because you get good players, you draft well, you sign who you need to sign, and you at the same time you keep your picks and your your young people. So, I feel like they’ve been patient and and now it’s paying off. They have all of their draft picks this year and next year and the year after that. $27 million in cap space next summer. 4 million right now if they want to use it. Like, I I don’t want people in the chat to be like, “Oh, you just brought on, you know, someone who covers the Habs and then you you glazed them and hyped them up.” But like it’s so hard to not be overwhelmingly positive about them right now. And I’m sure the fan base is feeling the same way. Exactly. And we’re just waiting in 2 years. We’re going to sign Conor McDavid and everything’s going to be perfect after. If you if you weren’t cool and brought on George Lorac, I’d be more angry than you. Hey, I got my bodyguard now. So you guys cannot uh No, but this is I think this is what they’re doing. Actually, they’re setting up to sign that big superstar on free agent market at one point. I don’t know who it’s going to be, but they will have definitely the the room to to make it happen. Yeah. Um, two years from now, Nikita Couturov is a pending UFA. Well, him and Demidov, wouldn’t you imagine him and Demidov like holy that would be unreal. And the kid, you know, you know what I like about Demidov is he’s such a good a good kid. Always smiling. He spent the whole summer here doing activities with the minor hockey. He was going to events all the time. he was taking care of of the fans, you know, and it it’s rare you see a young guy that mature and that appreciative of what the fans are giving back to him. And I I I just love it. I think he’s the perfect star from Montreal. Uh, all right. I want to quiz you on your career for our friends at hockeyfights.com. Another one of the great pe great people we have as a part of our network. Um, you have your second most popular fight on hockeyfights.com is a fight against an Oiler. Do you remember who it was? Uh Theo Pekkham. It was Theo Peekom. What do you remember about that game and the and the scrap with Theo Peekom of all people? I just it just there was a big hit and there was a scrum after and obviously this is not the guy you wanted to end up with and he’s so big and so strong and so tough and then I put my head up and he’s he’s already with no gloves and we I just tried to to to to be as strong as he was but he’s he was a good fighter. was strong, guys. And I I just I was just happy that my face was okay after that fight. There there weren’t a lot of things that those Oilers teams were good at, but they did have their fair share of bruisers like Pekkham and McIntyre and those guys. Wick was on the team, too. Yeah. Like they might lose by six goals, but they’d get their pound of flesh, I guess. Yeah. Yeah, for sure. And they always had that uh that identity of a team that is tough to play against, you know, like w without being the the best team every year. There was always you guys had Rafi. I played with Rafi Torres like that, you know, you always had that type of players and they I think it’s it’s important in a Canadian market. Yeah. And you can again bring this conversation full circle. The fan bases always love him. And George Lorac, again, 20 years later, George will still get a standing ovation every single time he’s in town. Uh Maxim Lapierre from La Pash Blur, we love having you guys in our network. Great teammates. Appreciate you popping on. Thanks for doing this. Thanks for having me, guys. Have a good show. There you go. Thank you. That was awesome. That was great. Throw out George Lorac. I was just lucky. Called you out for your Mont hate. So just facts. Sorry, Maxi. I know you’re still there. Uh that was that was great though. And I mean again, you can see why the optimism is so high in Montreal. I uh I was just looking at the play and it’s a bit confusing of the the big hit he was talking about. Who laid it? I think he laid it. Oh, the clip doesn’t start early enough. No, it it definitely does. Oh, it does. Oh, yeah. Um, but it’s clearly Nan Hopkins that gets hit. Oh, yeah, he does. But as the play Oh, I guess he’s already pushed out of it. Okay. I thought he was in the middle of it. And this would have been NG’s rookie season if I’m not mistaken. Is this not the game where NG fought Keith Ballard or was that later? NEG eventually fought Keith Ballard for his like one one of his few fights in the league. Oh, I don’t know. I don’t remember. Uh, well, this was October 1st, so not too far. This must have been one of the first games of the season. This couldn’t have been Oh, this was a preseason game. This is a preseason game. Uh, peck and receive double miner for Ruffin and uh I don’t even know say that guy’s name got a charging call. So, it wasn’t Lapia that laid the hit. It was that guy who Victor Orisco. Yeah, that guy. Um, also too, I don’t know about Mont. We’ll see what he does tonight. He’s had a bad start to the season. Hasn’t been his Yeah. What? not as good as he was last year. Yeah. Um, hey, time for our yearly. I feel like we This is an exciting time. This how you know hockey the hockey season is in full swing. Okay. Well, we got Mark Stone’s on LTIR. Welcome back everybody. Welcome back Mark. They should There should be like an LTI Twitter account that like does a big thing. Welcome back Mark Stone. He’s playing hockey for too long. You got to get that guy on LTIR. Just waiting for um Jack Hughes to get injured for the rest of the season. Don’t say that cuz I my Jack Hughes 40 plus goals bet is looking unbelievable right now. Yep, it always does until January. It’s end of November, man. Look at whoever the Devils are playing on like the 27th. Jackie is blown out his shoulder in that game. Erin, since we got a little bit of time here, right? Oh, yeah. Could you pull up our futures graphic? I’m curious to see where we’re kind of at. We’re a few weeks into the season now. I don’t mind that. I don’t mind that at all. Um, one of mine was Dylan Gunthan to get 40 goals. He’s been slow in the goal scoring department though, hasn’t he? Um, yes is. He has four this season in seven games, so it’s not too bad. So, no, he’s actually good. He’s actually been doing okay. I have my notifications turned on for him. Uh, cuz I also have him in points, but I have Matt Coronado to get 30. He’s been okay, but that team’s struggling almost too much to not score goals right now. Yeah, I feel like eventually he’s going to they’re going to get going a little bit. Calgary team isn’t bad enough to be the last team in the NHL. Okay, so Aaron, we’ll go through Aaron’s first. McDavid 40 plus goals. He just needs to go on a heater. I’m not willing. I’m saying that’s like trending neutral right now cuz he’ll get going. Slightly thumb leaned down slightly on that one. Brady Kachchuck, you’re in trouble. Yeah, that’s a tough one. Sorry. That one’s probably not happening for you. And I liked the bet, too. That was maybe the one of yours I liked the most. You googled that one, right? That was one that was like it was on like all the futures bets. Um Tage Thompson only has one goal on the year. I like milk, boys. I like milk. And Matthew N has two goals in seven games, but again that ch he scores a hattrick at some point in the next week and his pace is fine. So McDavid and N are middles and Kachchuck and Thompson are downs right now. Um for Eli, we’ve got the 40 goals for Cfield. Cfield is five in eight games. Dylan Holloway over 22 and a half goals. He has one. Not good. Eli uh dry set the most power play points. He’s probably up there right now. Yeah, I’ll I’ll take that one. Lane Hudson over 65 and a half points. He currently has six and eight games for on pace for that one. Uh Ty, I’ll look at yours right here for you. Jack Eel over Didle is 36th. Wow. Eichel has six goals. Has six goals. That’s pretty good. I have Eel points, which is 100 points. He’s has 16 in seven games right now. He’s He might get 120. He’s cooking. Uh, and I’m finished fourth in a Pacific. The only reason I might not like this one as much anymore is because the LA Kings are not very good. And I don’t know what the Conucks are going to be like right away here, but Oh, well, it’s already happening. Remember we were talking over the summer being like they are one injury away from Teddy Bluga being their second line center. Who’s their second line center? Max Sassin. Who? I don’t even know how to say that guy’s name. Son, the third line center. You ask Ratu Ratu. So, he was the second line center. Yeah. To quickly go to mine. Eel over 30 and a half goals trending. Big thumbs up. Hughes big thumbs up. Anaheim on pace for 90. Demov also on pace for that. Hell yeah. Good for you, man. Good for you. Hey man, go [ __ ] yourself. Toronto currently out of a playoff spot, but also Detroit is currently in a playoff spot. And we all know that’s not going to But but and the thing for you too, Liam, like if considering Kachchuck is in all likelihood not going to get there if Gunther scores 40 goals, Aaron cannot beat you. Minor so middle of the pack plus 100 big one. Yeah. Like if Kachchuck doesn’t get there, the best case scenario for Aaron is he finishes up 2.3 units. I’m not trying to win this. I’m now just trying not to lose field. So right now if we to power rank him, I think he goes I’m one, Liam’s two, Eli’s three, Aaron’s four. I’ve got a Dylan voodoo doll at home. I’m just stamming the [ __ ] out of it every night. Well, that’s the thing, too. Like I mean I could be very hooped as well if Jack use blows out his shoulder in a week. So, three of I would say right now three of my four are currently on pace to hit because Anaheim is currently in the fourth in the division. So, I’m gonna take Where did my voice go? That’s good. I like the features draft. That was a good idea. Thank you. Okay. Um before we wrap up the show, let’s do a little what’s trending for our friends at Od Noodle. Take advantage of the value menu deal today which allows you to add two green onion cakes, five spring rolls or six wanttons to your order for just $2 any location in the Edmonton area. Takeout only ood.ca to get your order in. Uh Lance, are we having a watch party for the Jays Saturday? Lance, are you coming to Vancouver? We are. Yeah, we are. But it’s only for people who come on our trip with us. It’s a little exclusive. Lance, um is there a Jay’s watch party tomorrow? um at my house, but you can’t come. We got an early flight, so Oh, we do. Oh, yeah, we do. Brutal [ __ ] Um that’s not that’s not going to stop either of us. Yeah. No, I’ll still have a couple beers and watch the Jays, but um anyways, what’s trending? Bo Bashette, while we’re on the topic of baseball, says he’s going to play. Yeah. And today he was seen at the Blue Jays stadium taking ground balls at second base, a position he has never played before. Oh, interesting. Why would he go there? What’s less movement? So the idea is that I mean he’s a natural shortstop. Jimenez has been giving them elite defense at short. You probably don’t want to put a guy who hasn’t played in a while at shortstop, a very important position. And Bose’s defense is average usually. Okay. So if you want to keep Jimenez there, the natural fit for a player coming off an injury is DH George. But the Jays have George Springer who has been dhing for a few months now and is comfortable there and also has a knee injury he’s nursing and doesn’t give you plus defense in the outfield. Whereas Nathan Lucas will give you plus defense in the outfield, right? Okay. And Addison Barger will give you good enough defense in the outfield. He’s got a big arm and that allows you to keep Clement at third. Like they basically have two options. They can force Bashette to play second base, a position he’s never played. Or they can force Springer to go to the outfield, which he has not played in a long time. That’s their bum. He also has a bum. So that’s the debate. And IKF would be the odd man out, right? He’s currently the other guy, Lainario, Lito. Lido is going to come off the roster. That’s what I mean. But IKF will come out of the lineup every day. Gotcha. So do they what are any other roster changes we should expect? No, I don’t think so. They’re going to keep using Bassid out of the bullpen. The rotation’s going to go Yavage, then I believe Gosman, then Bieber, then Or it might even go Yavage, then Sherzer, and then Gosman, then Bieber. Isn’t you Savage got named the game one starter? Game one starter. Yeah. So, game two is either going to be Gosman or Sherzer. They might flip-flop him cuz Gosman came out of the bullpin on two days rest. That’s crazy. Yeah, he did do that. And was Dalen and he got out he got them three big outs, which is you take Gman first game on the road. Yeah, that makes a lot of sense actually. I think so. Um, and Shurzer will be so fired up in that game too, like on home field. So, Ty, are you in favor of bringing him back in? Because that’s like I mean, you don’t want to mess with a good thing and I think the Jay’s been having a good thing. Brings you Yeah. Do you want to put him in that spot? Do you want Yeah, he’s the MLB leader in hits. Like, so no matter what, you’re putting him in. Yeah. I don’t think this is like I mean it kind of is but like similar to Echol with the Oilers where like he’s ready so you have to play him cuz he’s one of your best players if not your best contact hitter. So like you need him. Um and honestly like you put Bow at two, you keep Ernie at three and then you DH George. Or if you don’t DH George, you go Lucas in right, George in left or George and right, Lucas and left, whatever you want to do. And then you just move Clement to second and play Barger at three. Like you can make it work. You you got to play him if you can. I’m excited. Me, too. World Series. First time in my life. First time since 93. Um, the other thing that’s trending is a bunch of NBA connected players, coaches, people are being arrested in a illegal poker operation tied to the mafia. Whatever happens, you’re just having a good time. Oh, you can’t rig poker games to steal millions of dollars from people. I’m sorry. I thought this was America. Um, the land of the free. Some of the differ. So, some of the reporting that’s going along with this, here’s a good good one. Um Terry Roier said he was leaving a Hornets game early with a fake injury. 200k bets replaced. Roier played just nine minutes. They later counted money at Rosier’s home. That So Rosier’s in like a different investigation. Phillips is playing poker with the mob. Yeah. So basically what they were doing was like the mob or mafia, whatever term you use, is was telling people like, “Hey, I’ I’m organizing this poker game with Chanty Bilips, the NBA Hall of Famer. You should come play.” And they would bring people in to come play and rig the poker games. They would have contact lenses. Oh golly. That would have like a film on them where they could tell the markings of the cards. Oh. So they were just basically robbing people through poker. Wow. Did Chanty said, “Did you need that? You’re a Hall of Fame. You’ve won an NBA championship.” Was currently making $4 million a year to be the head coach of the Portland Trailblazers. Yeah. Pretty crazy. Gambling in the NBA. Kind of nuts. We had that one guy a few years ago, Porter. Oh, he’s named in this. He is. He’s part of all of us. He’s part of the mafia. Yeah. Whoa. Apparently, uh, there was apparently he was being offered that like he could partake in these games. Allegedly, he was being offered he could partake in these games to pay back his debt. Oh my god. Classic Jante. Classic. Also, you always need to shout out that Friday. Liam already did. We talked about it this morning where they’re like, “Hey, you got any action on the game?” Like, “Yeah, I got Magic Money last.” Oh, I have Jonte. I have a million dollars on Jonte Porter’s unders. The guy they just called up from the G-League. Don’t ask me about it. Oh, he’s leaving the game. He’s leaving. Don’t tell anyone what you saw here, dude. You just won like $2 million. Shut up. Shut up. Uh, yep. Good stuff. Yeah. Um, there you go, man. Max Lapierre, that went unbelievably. What a guy. Com just made fun of us right off the bat. That’s great. Acting like that goalending has been good. He came out swinging. It’s not. But I am I will say about the lineup, should we get surprised that Skinner is not playing tonight? I am. with back to backs like do you not want him to face because now Picker’s got to play two of the next Vancouver so much did he play them a couple times in the preseason like Pickard played the game earlier in the season I don’t know counter point Pickard actually plays really well in that building does he I think maybe they’re just protecting Skinner from that maybe I don’t know it is interesting I’m very curious because what’s their schedule next week do we have the full schedule if you don’t mind throwing the loop people are saying I’m asking you to a lot today. This is just Aaron’s job and he is prepared. I was about to say I do this for a living and here. Give me a sec. So, he had to schedule up before, but they come home after the road trip to play. I think it’s like Utah and someone else. Maybe they just see those. They play Utah Rangers at home. There you go. Utah Rangers at home. I don’t know. I thought it was an interesting decision. Surprised Pickard v Montbo Oilers vabs downtown Edmonton. They’re back on home ice. Should be a lot of fun. Although that building is going to be 50% Canadians fans, especially happening early in the year, I don’t think a lot of Oilers season ticket holders would hesitate to be like, “Oh, I can get like way above face value from my tickets tonight on a Thursday in October when the team’s not playing well. See you.” And I don’t blame them. Get your bag. Get your bread up. I love that we do this, too. Just the big W’s and L’s on top of everything. Big orange W’s, baby. Um, like Skin is obviously playing Seattle and then must be play Utah Ranges, I guess. Yeah. I I think that’s a good rotation, though. Again, they’re working in a bit of a tandem here at this point. Picks over 20 and a half saves. Oo, I could get behind that. And then the others defend much harder in front of Pickard, so I don’t think there’ll be as many shots. New episode of Real Life dropping today. And then Aaron, what time you live at? Uh 6 PM me and Sean Pang and Eban. His first pregame of the year. Let’s go Sean Pang. I love Pang so much. So it’s going to be a good one. Me, Brett, Pangs back on home ice. Everything’s known as Rush cuz they’re not on the Eastern road trip. So, it’s kind of chill today. Got a limited time. You going to get your food from Dog Patch? Oh, you know I am. What did you get last game? I ate like a king. I got the Brickyard Burger with cheese with bacon with gravy on the side. Dipping my fries in there. People, if you’ve never gotten the food at Dog Patch before, you are legitimately missing out. It is nuts. Come hang over there. And we’re going to have the big screen TV out for this one, I think. Yeah, I believe so. Yeah, let’s go. Big screen TV up at Do Patch if you want to join him for the game. Uh, we’re going to build up some good vibes down there. There’s the schedule. Yep. That’s a face you can trust. Yep. And you can watch Aaron do pre and post games, sit next to the booth, listen to it. Mhm. Come on. You buy me beers. Live studio entertainment or a live studio audience. Okay, that is a wrap on today’s edition of the show. Uh, everybody in the YouTube, great. Felt good to be back in my chair for at least a day or two and then we’re back out on the road. Um, but excited for the nation vacation in Vancouver this weekend as well. Game day, pre- post game. Giddy up. That’s a wrap. Have a good Thursday everybody and we’ll chat tomorrow. Oil up. It’s game day, and Tyler is back from his trip to Toronto! On today’s episode of Oilersnation Everyday, Tyler, Liam, and Jay get you set for tonight’s matchup between the Edmonton Oilers and Montreal Canadiens at Rogers Place.
We’ll start off with a full lineup report, game preview, and everything you need to know before puck drop. The Canadiens are coming off an emotional OT win over the Flames last night, and the Oilers will look to take advantage of Montreal’s tired legs and make a statement back on home ice.
Later in the show, we’ll be joined by former NHLer Max Lapierre to break down Montreal’s start to the season, what’s gone right for the Habs, and whether this group is finally ready to push for a playoff push.
We’ll also go through some game notes, including encouraging numbers for the Oilers against Habs goaltender Sam Montembeault, before wrapping up the show with our Bet365 Game Day Betting Challenge.

Can someone explain why when posting a live stream we have to skip through to beginning of stream? Can you not edit out the first 90 seconds?
