Leafs make SHOCKING moves… EVERYTHING just changed | Toronto Maple Leafs News

We have some breaking news. The Toronto Map Police have made multiple shocking moves. And for the first time in a very, very long time. Not only has Brew made a move to that top line surrounding Matthew N, but he has put these lines in an absolute blender. You’re going to want to stay tuned for that because there’s a lot of shocking moves, but also some huge updates as it pertains to Chris Tanvan, another player getting called up, as well as a few other things on this episode, including a weird update. Something strange is going on with Morgan Riley. A ton of things to go over today. Before we get into it all, if you’re a part of the percentage or aren’t subscribed to the channel, quick reminder to hit that subscribe button. Your guys support has been absolutely unbelievable. Darius, we knew there was going to be some changes. Kind of this exceeded my expectations, I guess, as it pertains to the amount of moves that are being made here. An absolute boatload of moves. And let’s start with the one that happened earlier this morning. The Maple Leaf have recalled defenseman Dakota Mermis from the Toronto Marlies. Chris Tanv has been placed on the I the injured reserve retroactive to October 21st. So, it’s not the LTI, at least at this point. Craig Ruby came out and said that he, you know, is questionable for tonight. Obviously, he’s not playing now, but he was going to be questionable. This any quick thoughts on this? Again, he’ll be at a minimum of 7 days from October 21st, meaning he will not be available for at least the next three games. Kind of unfortunate, especially with some weird things happening with Morgan Riley. Hopefully, he’s able to play tonight, but starting the day off with some negative news there, unfortunately. Yeah, not good news. Obviously, they need Chris Tanv. And I thought that he was going to at least miss Friday based on the language that they were using. But he’s now on the IR, which again, as you can hear from David Alter means that he’s going to miss at least three games. So, he’ll miss Friday, he’ll miss Saturday, and he’ll miss Tuesday against the Flames next week. And hopefully he’s back after that. I’m sure they’ll re-evaluate and uh we’ll have an update, you know, early next week, but he’s going to miss at least those three games. So, next man up, it’s Dakota Mermis. He’s uh he’s in the mix there and he’s definitely in the mix cuz we have an update on Morgan Riley and the rest of the Lions as well because Craig Breub is changing a lot heading into this game against Buffalo on Friday. Yeah, let’s dive into some of the bigger changes here. Let’s start with the biggest one of the of the year and the biggest one in multiple years I think at this point. Now, of course, it’s not just that Bobby McMahon is in the top six blue. It’s that you could see here a couple different things. Now, obviously Willie and Craig Brew were engaged in long conversation before the practice began. Could see some different lines there. Just kind of give you guys some retroactive storytelling here with this. And then ultimately they put McMahon on the top line and put like you me you actually predicted it last night. Matthew N down to the second line with Tvar and Machelli and William Knander is up to the top line. So it’s McMahon Matthews Knander Ny Tvaris Machelli. We haven’t seen line lineup shake line shakeup sorry this drastic in I mean years at this point. And obviously last year that top line was pretty locked in. This one’s pretty wild. First time in a while N has been moved off of that top pairing. Nas has been off to an okay start. Nothing crazy, but pretty good. Any thoughts on this? This is obviously pretty big. McMahon has shown to play really well with high level talent. He’s playing with the two best players on the Leafs in that top line and then you hope Nas can inject some energy into Tvaras and Machelli. But I’m most interested to see what Nas can do on the second line. But what are your thoughts on these lines here? It all started with the conversation today with Craig Baru and then of course McMahon and top six blue. And we’ll talk about what it means for Max Di here in a minute as well, but just a ludicrous amount of updates here and changes in today’s uh before tonight’s game. Yeah, we have some changes to the defense as well too. We’ll get to that in a second, but obviously these are the biggest changes and we know it’s no surprise that Craig Bubet is really upset with the start to the season and a lot of players, right? He was speaking out about that yesterday and I feel like he walked into his office yesterday morning and realized something was missing. So, he made his way down to Costco and he bought himself a blender because now everything is in that blender and I don’t mind it. I think he’s playing with a lot of things and I’m not going to give myself that much credit. Like you just said, uh I did say N could move down to the second line maybe, but I was imagining still Tvar and Knander together because if you look at the advanced analytics, Tvar and Knander offensively have been the team’s best players. They have been kind of floating the boat so far this season. So they’re mixing it up completely. Like you mentioned, McMahon when he’s playing with top level talent does look good, right? He doesn’t really do much when he’s on the third line. We know what he brings to the table, but he’s more of a compliment piece to some really good players, right? So hopefully that can get them going. Knander is going so far, at least offensively this year. So maybe he can get Austin Matthews going. I don’t necessarily believe personally in having to get a $13 million player going. You should be going all the time. And we’ve seen it in the past. I don’t know what the issue is so far this year. I don’t think he’s hurt. I don’t I don’t know what it is, but they got to get going. Maybe he’s putting too much attention to detail to the defensive side, but even then they haven’t been good as a team. So you can see the rest of the lines here. One thing I think is really interesting, Robertson is now a healthy scratch. It’s Cowan back in the lineup now on the third line. So, he’s getting uh you know an opportunity there. Joshua looked pretty good on Saturday. So, we’ll see what happens with that. Uh and Cowan with two big boys and Wah and you know Joshua could be a good thing. Maybe Cowan gets them going offensively because he’s been zipping around out there. Uh and obviously you got two big boys to to help him out, right? So, nobody really messes with him. So, I like that line combination as well. The fourth line’s the fourth line until Scott Laden comes back. So, some big changes there. We got changes to the defense. I like it. They’re not going they’re not playing well enough, right? And there’s just something wrong right now. They have to get the blender out and send a message to a couple guys that listen like it it’s not working. You guys are not playing well enough. You have to bring it to another level. And I know it’s October and I’m sure Craig Ruby has that in the back of his head as well that I’m sure the group will probably figure it out, but let’s be honest, like there’s a lot of problems that have been problems for a while that are still still peeking their head out. Yeah. A couple other things you mentioned. I think this lineup here, what we see now, and not necessarily the exact lines, maybe it works out with Neander, maybe it doesn’t. I think Cowan’s here to stay at this point. I feel like if they would have bearing some horrible play, but like I think Nick Robertson’s more likely to get traded and then they use Cowan or maybe somebody else in there. Maybe not Cowan here to stay, but I don’t think Nick Robertson’s the long-term solution for this year in particular. We know there was some rumblings of him getting traded. There’s some rumblings about them keeping him. We’ll keep you up to date with that. But let’s dive in a couple other things here. Now, I I showed you guys the screenshot a couple times. Riley is not on the ice for practice, which we haven’t really gotten a new update on him yet. Let us know down below if one comes out by the time this video goes live. Could be an injury, could be something personal. Of course, we’re not going to speculate. Looking at the blue line, completely changed now because of course with Morgan Riley out, you stick McCabe with Carlo. But the interesting thing here is I’m curious to see what your thoughts are. They have Dakota Mermis paired with Oel, which I would assume means that if Morgan Riley is available, they’re going to rock with Dakota Mermis. just called up rather than Philip Meyers who’s been around the team for a while. Do you think that’s wrong or do you think that they are going to rock Mermis in there with Oel instead of of course Philip Meyers in there with the Benwa which is a line that they’ve used in the past. So maybe you could also argue the other way around there a couple different ways but one of those two are getting involved whether it’s Mermis or Meyers potentially both if Morgan Riley remains out tonight. I think it really depends what happens with Morgan Riley and what the situation is there. Is it an injury? Is it a personal thing? Is it just a bruise like load management? All that stuff, right? So, we’ll we’ll find that out, I’m sure, later in the day and and before tomorrow as well. But, I thought it was going to be more of a handedness thing, but I don’t think that’s necessarily true looking at it either because Mermis is left-handed and Oel is left-handed as well. So, we’ll see. I I know that they trust Meyers. He made the team as a seventh defenseman, right? So, I do wonder if he finds his way into the lineup, but they’re missing two guys now. If Riley’s not playing, even if Riley is playing, um I I do think it’s uh Meyers that will make his way into the lineup, he will be in the lineup because he has that right shot. So, uh, you’re missing Tanov with that right shot. So, that’s the way I see it at least. I think Mermis, you know, just taking reps today because Riley is out and Riley and Oel had something going at a time last season, right? They were kind of experimenting with that. So, maybe that’s just the plan. He’s just a placeholder. We’ve seen that in the past, too. So, that’s the way I see it heading into tomorrow. Hopefully, Riley’s okay. But, obviously, we’ll get an update before tomorrow’s game in terms of is Riley actually playing if he was uh if Dakota Mermis was just a placeholder today. But to me, it’s Myers. He’s been the seventh defenseman the whole time. Nothing against Dakota Mermis, but uh he’s just been called up on an emergency basis. Yeah, looking at the power play units, they’ve changed a little bit as well. You have Nelander, Dvarz, Matthews, Oel, of course, because O’s in there instead of Morgan Raleigh and McMahon, Machelli, Doy, Cowan, and McCabe. So, it’s going to be interesting to see what happens there. And obviously wrap up, we’ll give you some more insight cuz the report just dropped recently as well about the uh kind of the I guess Tanv injury and what it means for those unfamiliar. When a player is placed on the IR, they’re unavailable to the team for 7 days. So they’re he’s going to miss the game against I mean tonight he’s going to miss the game tomorrow against Buffalo and then Tuesday against the Flames. Hopefully he can come back after that and I mean also hopefully at least get on a bit of a roll here. Tana of course one point in seven games. Not an offensive defenseman but is absolutely crucial to this team. Eight block shots in the year which actually lower than his usual. I think he’s usually a bit better at that. But and then of course William Knander who has 13 points is having a pretty solid year at least not scoring but facilitating has been moved tons of moves even like tons of moves today. More moves I’m sure are going to be coming here over the next few weeks. Keep you up the day of the Lord.

  1. I like this. Adds speed to the top line. They looked slow and lack lustre against New Jersey. I watched the Calgary Montreal game last night and the speed of the game is what hockey is about now. Buffalo and Detroit same thing. The game is changing and the refs are calling more clutch and grab and stick work so Leafs need to adapt to that instead of building a team to beat Florida. That is in the past. Florida is having a tough time now too keeping up with the speed.

  2. Finally Chief figured it out these two lines are the best arrangement for the time being , only which is the top line and which is the second line time will tell

  3. I will put money that TOR loses every game badly till Tanev is back.
To lose your best right hand defense and replace with a player who has not played in the NHL in what 2 years , hmmm is Berube trying to lose?
Keep turning the blender Berube eventually it will work lol, what a joke , he is worse then Keefe !

  4. These lines sound interesting. Not sure if there is enough grit being shown by some guys but I want to see how these lines work out. Doubt we will miss Rielly on defense. He needs to be way more aggressive or I don't see much use for him on this team.

  5. If you’re putting Willy with Matthew’s you have to move Knies down. Glad that’s the move. Rather see Domi on the second. He’s a rudderless bottom 6 player.

  6. Toronto Maple leafs are a fucking joke just like your bootlicking channel no wonder your subscribers are so low Matthiews is even good enough for the bottom 6 Depressing to watch these high paid losers
Matthiews is a cash cow get rid of him

  7. Matthew's is invisible not playing well doesn't dominate fancy stick handling nothing else can't seem too score 5 on 5 or pwerplay seems like only way he'll score is empty net for a guy making 13.25 is pathetic

  8. The leafs are still in summer vacation they have no interest in playing hockey the heaviest team in the league now the slowest and weakest team in the league 😂

  9. LOL more of the same… wake up leafs management… mathews IS only a 2nd line guy. Period.
Shoulda got tougher after last years embarrassment. Tougher. Grittier. Nastier. Who faaakn cares about penalties… you get like 100 too many men penalties a year.. pure stupidity imho… , how about cleaning up that clownshow… and eliminate those 100… and replace it with a couple of nasty boys who will get 50 over the year but make playing the leafs a much less enjoyable walk in the park.
