8. I’ve accepted that Utah is more a come from behind or edge out a win in a tie game team than a get a big lead and keep it team. They kept it cool at the end and got the win.

21. Woah such a gutsy win. It’s been overstated but that’s the type of game we let get to OT last season. The improvement for this team has been incredible and I don’t want to get too excited but we look like we could be really good. Safe to say my tusk has been up for the last few hours

    WOW that first period was FANTASTIC! The speed was truly unmatched! I said in the the GDT, it felt like Utah was playing 1.25 speed and Blues were going .75 speed. Just unrelenting in the offensive zone and dangerous chance after dangerous chance! Love to see an awkward goal from Cole to start us off and then this game became the Cooley show seeing 3 goals in a row! Including a power play goal which was great to see. Our offense was unquestionably great and gives me hope that we will continue to score at a great rate this season!

    Then came the lumber.

    Man do those blues play dirty. I was genuinely worried seeing some of those hits they were laying on the guys in the final few minutes of the first. This was an intro to playoff hockey, if you can’t beat them destroy them.

    Going into the second we knew they were going to come back firing, and the blues picked it up right where they left off. After scoring one goal, our guys got caught retaliating. If you don’t know anything about hockey, you HAVE to know they’ll always call you for retaliation. So we went onto an unjust (by our standards, but fair by hockey standards) penalty kill with Sergy in the box along with Carcs and I believe Crouse. Blues score and if you weren’t sure the momentum swung before that, you KNEW it was different now. The rest of the 2nd was all blues, they got sustained pressure were ruthless on the forecheck and just plain dirty. They roughed us up pretty good, but I knew if we could walk out of the second scoring at least one we would be okay. Keller heard my prayer in the final minute and after getting a beautiful pass from Peterka Keller takes care of business on a breakaway and BURIES it in the net.

    Going into the third I was pretty optimistic that we would be done with the blues shenanigans and end the game. My heart rate indicated otherwise. The blues had zero quit, scoring early in the 3rd to make it a two score game. After a good penalty kill we were getting ready to play 5 on 5 when the blues came in with a nasty wrap around goal to bring within one and still 14 minutes left in the game. I was sweating at this point. Momentum was not in our favor and truthfully, last years squad would probably lose this game. But we aren’t watching last years team, man oh man we are not watching last years team.

    This team kept fighting and eventually got a penalty and a chance to win this game. As clunky of a power play as we have had, and as ugly of a goal as it was. Nick Schmaltz continues his hot streak with another goal! Props to Sergy for throwing this on net and catching schmaltz on the way there!

    We had the goal we needed and now it was time to stand tall and stone wall the blues. Those last 6 minutes was ran like a penalty kill and honestly, was pristine hockey from our mammoth! They played lights out and gave very little hope to this blues team. Thanks to an empty net from the TOIGH Captain Keller. We walked out with a win adding to our pile of wins!!

    This game was mostly rough to watch, but I think is a VITAL culture win. Those blues played dirty, and if we have any hopes for playoffs and success in said playoffs, we have to get used to dirty hockey. Because if the panthers have proven anything, it’s the rats that prevail. We gave in to that style of play and gave them exactly what they wanted, but when we stuck to our game and let the score board do the tussling, we came out on top.

    Huge win! Congrats to Cooley for the hatty, grateful the rest of the guys stepped up and didn’t let it go to waste!
