Dylan Larkin & Todd McLellan Post Game vs NYI | Oct. 23, 2025
In your eyes tonight, where do you feel or see the game maybe got away from the group? Well, I mean, just from the start, we were just um just lack of execution. Um, you know, I think uh lack of uh showing up here with with uh being on a back to back and and uh you know, we just um made it very easy on them and and uh you know, they capitalized and and uh then we just we just chased it and let it get more and more out of hand. So, um, to a man, it wasn’t wasn’t good enough tonight and and, uh, we didn’t execute and, um, we didn’t execute a back to back. We sticking to our strategy and and making it easy, playing a simple game. Um, yeah, I know no one in here wants to talk excuses, but do you think the fatigue, the travel, obviously the first back to back of the season, did that play any part in maybe the result over the weekend? No. No. Um, you got to be ready to go and and um, everyone in here is used to playing back to backs and and uh, yeah, we just we we did not uh, a lack of experience I would say in a backto-back of just not playing a simple game, not playing a good road game both nights really. So, I left our goalie out to drive. Playing disciplined maybe one of the biggest takeaways you want to pull from this game tonight. I mean, we didn’t have anything going on and we didn’t didn’t do a good enough job of of anything. Um, we lost net battles. We lost battles all over the ice and um our pel kill was good, but uh you know, we we can’t let in that many goals and and and lose that many battles in a hockey game. And a quick one at home this weekend and then another long road trip next week. What do you guys move forward and take mentally going into this weekend? Um, I mean, hopefully rest tomorrow and and then um you get the emotion back, get get the uh get the juice back for for the for the home game against St. Louis and then got to figure it out on the road. So, it’s going to be a tough trip to, you know, um got to find energy. We got to find uh get our spirit going to to uh get everyone involved in and and win hockey games as a team. Thanks, Tony. anything the Islanders did that caught you off guard here or is more your play? No, it’s they they play a hard game and and they got heavy players and um you know they they won faceoffs, they won netfront battles, they won battles all over the ice and and uh we didn’t didn’t make it hard on them. We made it pretty easy on them. Looking back on this one, what components do you see contributing and ultimately leading to the end result? Well, there was a lot to it, but uh our puck management through the neutral zone or in the offensive zone led to multiple uh rushes going the other way, and our our sort out coming into our end was was non-existent really. They they found the fourth man, they found the third man, they scored off rebounds. So, um, areas that we’ve worked on, tried to put time into, corrected or thought we corrected after game one, they showed up again tonight. And the final score being what it was, do you feel like the offensive chances were there? You generated some of those even though Yeah. And garbage time. Yeah. You know what? We didn’t generate enough early and it gets to 7 71 or whatever it was, it’s garbage time. They’re playing a different game. They they’re getting through it and um, you know, maybe some calls even went our way. So, we got some time on the power play, but uh not enough from from a lot of players offensively as well. Adversity will come in games and a lot of times during the game itself. How do you manage that and not let that kind of bear down? And well, I didn’t think we’ve on this road trip, we haven’t done a real good job of handling it. And uh that that’s a huge area of growth for this team. And when it doesn’t go your way, how do you how do you respond? We uh we didn’t start well in Buffalo last night. We respond a little better as the night went on. here. We didn’t start well and and we never got it going. Uh so certainly uh there’s the on ice product that has to be worked on, but there’s the between ears part that has to be managed as well. And a lot of special teams tonight on both sides. Do you think that contributed as well? Obviously last night you talked about fatigue early on and just, you know, not No, that wasn’t the case. Uh you know, if anything, it favored us tonight. I think we won the special teams battle and still lose 72. like it’s uh I don’t think that played into it like it did last week. Your your scouting and first impression, what do you think of Schaer to see the first? Well, as as delivered or he he played as we thought he would play, I guess is is the best way of describing it. Um he’s a tremendous player and a lot of people in the National Hockey League are going to enjoy watching him play for for many years. his skating ability and uh the ability to see the ice and the sense of timing uh makes him an incredible uh prospect and uh when you’re drafted number one, you probably have those tools and he’s got the courage to use them right now. And anything the Islanders did that caught you guys off guard and felt you know they they created turnovers and they were real good off the rush tonight. Thank

I didn’t expect coach to say anything but violent vomiting!!🤮💩🤮💩
“It’s garbage time” is the perfect saying to go along with the priority patch
Brother, you guys looked like absolute ass against Buffalo. And you get ass-blasted against the Islanders. Weak 2-ply team with no fight or physicality. The 5-1 was a fluke, this team is cheeks.
Get Ras outta here, tf. Like, I'm always hyper sensitive not to post shit, because we – as fans – realistically don't know a damn thing. This isn't on Yzerman. You guys are just legit barely NHL caliber.
Pathetic again. The record flatters them and these bad loses should've happened against the Leafs on the road and Tampa at home. They got away with it, last two nights they got what they deserved. Edvinsson has been awful this season. Johansson was garbage again. Soderblom and Rasmussen are two useless pylons. Seider doesn't look himself this season. Nothing to do with losing Kane as this happened with him in the team as well. I like Brandsegg-nygard but he does look like he needs time in the AHL. ASP has looked bad recently as well. This is .500 team. Yzerbots got carried away..
What kills me is like basic rush defense, how can we not defend a 3 on 3 rush. Like yea there is going to be a trailer but in what world is there a gaping lane for them to skate right down with zero pressure and have an uncontested shot. It’s just not that easy to get goals in the NHL unless you’re playing this team. I can’t believe what I watched tonight honestly It was just sad ass chasing our tail hockey.

Pretty embarrassing stuff boys
The owner is mediocre, the GM is a no-show up guy. The roster is mediocre at best, simple recipe for disaster over a season over time.
Is it March already?
They decided that little winning streak was good enough and got back to the no show up, no courage tradition…
At least MBN got his first point on the board hopefully his first goals Wil come soon.
WTH was that bunch of bull crud, you idiots?! First you let the Sabres get back on my hate list, now the Islanders! Smarten up against the Rangers at least. Get with the program and protect your goalie! It’s too early to give up on you.
NOT TO A BOTTOM FEEDER TEAM BOYS
This game was an Yzerman problem. 1) Too many soft, nice, swedish players – They have no edge, no killer instincts, and are timid. Stop drafting them they turn the entire locker room into mush. 2) Nepotism – Being advised by Kris Draper & Dan Cleary who have the combined IQ of a fruit roll up, along with his Brother who can't sign a free agent. 3) Free agents (See his inept brother that is in charge of free agent hiring. 4) Being too slow, late and over valuing his own talent – Yzerman continues to try and showcase trash players for trade value rather than allowing young players to come in. Instead he devalues them even more, and stunts the growth of the young players who actually give a damn. He was too late to fire Blashill, too late to fire Lalonde, and is too late to send players to the AHL. The fans call him out 3-6 months before he ever sees or addresses a problem.
After this game, it is Playoffs or Bust this year, and Yzerman needs to take a new role only overseeing drafting and all the old clowns in the clown car get canned if we miss.
I read a lot of comments here and I just gotta say – I am frustrated too. However, it is too early in the season to give up on the wings. Yes, we have had some hard to watch seasons, and games like tonight, but I have a bit more faith in the team we are seeing this season than I have since Larkin's rookie year. Remember just 2 seasons ago they tied for the last wild card spot. I don't think the team is going backwards this season, i think they are going to evolve. Be patient my friends, good things will happen.
And to think I actually forced myself to stay up at a game that started 1 am to see this?😭
No head …nope. 🐲🧎💩 Coaches are awesome though lol
Send mbn down hes not ready put bergeren and ras on waivers call up mazur and danielson
charot, copp, compher, and ras all gotta go. no effort players or they just lack the skill to keep up
Stevie has to move all the dead weight. NOW!!!!
That game ran longer than I thought.
Importantly, I passed out before my time with Cam was over, sort of in his arms.
While I'd like to know what exactly went down back there, I think I have a rough idea, and I hope my buddy's all right.
look im gonna say it. Seider is not that great. some of the guys that have been here who are stil not producing should be asking themselves why the hell are you even on this team bro? im so sick of the redwings brand and logo being tarnished when it used to mean ELITE hockey. Its been nearly 20 years since a cup and its been 10 since a playoff appearnce. LOVE emmit Finne. but MY GOD man is this team REALLY not anything special. Yzer plan 7th year in and its still the same old wings.
