All right, boys and girls, what are we talking about today? We’re going to be looking at tonight’s game, Spurs Pelicans. Can the Spurs go 2 and 0 to start the season? They’re on the road. So, we’ll look at the Pelicans first, then get into the Spurs. Maybe some adjust. I mean, how do you seriously how do you adjust for a beatd down they gave Dallas? But, we’ll try. We’ll try. I think our guests have a few things that they can do in game two of the season and then continue just gushing over Wimy’s performance in game one versus Dallas. I have some numbers for y’all. I’m going to flash them on the screen in a while. It’s they’re mindboggling. They’re mindboggling. We’re going to react to that and more. for us. Go and bring in our guest or should I say the new member of the locked on Spurs family joining the mothership locked on Spurs for the first time. Let’s bring him on. He is Mr. Devin Brown. Uh UTSA Hall of Famer, former well former Spurs player and Spurs champion. And Devin, just for your intro, your first show here, I wore a UTSA cap for you, buddy. How’s that? Hey, I love it. I noticed that as soon as we got on and uh I love to see it and uh love the Road Runners and everything that they’re doing with their program. Awesome. Awesome. Again, make sure to follow him on X at Devin Brown 933. You see it on your screen. Again, he is the newest member of the Lockdown Spurs family. For those of you who don’t know, you better know, you should know, but if you don’t, I’ll give you a break because it’s brand new. Uh Lockdown has now a locked on pretty much a Spurs postgame show. All right. It’s Devin. It’s Casey Vieira. Y’all know Casey. He’s been on lockdown for many, many years now. Every time there’s a game, they react to it immediately afterwards. Check it out. Their first episode is already on the Lockown Spurs YouTube page. They’ll likely have one tonight after the Pelicans game, so stand by for that later on tonight. Uh they did a bangup job. I watched it. But I said I was sitting here like, man, he’s got to come on the mother mothership. He’s got to come on the mothership to introduce himself to the rest of the lockdown for his listeners. So, welcome. Welcome once again. All right. Yes. No. Hey, thank you for having me. You had a great show uh last night. Casey and I had a great time and we’re looking forward to future games and hopefully, you know, Jeff, the the Spurs played like they did last night. Um that’ll make our job easier. But yeah, no, I hear you. You know what y’all should do? If the Spurs give another team a beatdown, just replay uh game one recap and you’re good. That’s all you have to do. Just say, “Watch game one recap.” And you pretty much know what happened. Kidding aside, again, Locked on Spurs now has a lock on Spurs postgame show hosted by Casey Vieiraa and he is joined by former Spurer Devin Brown. All right, Devin, let’s uh not waste your time because a little verdict told me you’re going to play some golf. So, I got to get you out of here ASAP. Let’s uh Sorry, Jeff. We’re out here. We’re out here uh supporting Harlandale and McCullum. Uh the superintendent out there, uh Jerry Sto, he coached me in high school. So, for the last five or six years, I’ve been coming out here playing in his his uh golf tournament. We’re out here at the great uh golf club of Texas. And um we were actually we’re actually about eight or whole nine uh whole eight or whole nine holes in and um you know, I was swinging it. Okay. So, I got to be on here with you for the next hour or so. Here we go. Yeah. Yeah. I’m gonna look at the final tally and it’s gonna be Devin like minus 20 on the court. Right. Right. No sir. Hey, the I’m gonna keep I’m gonna give you an insight on Scrambles and Devin Brown. I left myself away from the scorecard years ago. I don’t get involved in any of that. But do I collect the prizes? Yes, but I’m not involved in anything. I bet you do. I bet you do. All right, Devin. Uh, those Greens are calling you, so let’s dive into it. Spurs Pelicans tonight. Spurs are 1 and0 to start the season. Pelicans are 0 and1 to start the season. And uh you know let’s let’s take a look at the enemy. Let’s look at the other side of the court right now. Let’s start off with the Pels. And it it starts and ends with Zion Williamson. It starts with the big man 30. He had 33 minutes played last night or a couple nights ago versus uh the Grizzlies. 27 points, nine rebounds, five assists. I I mean 48% shooting. The Spurs, you know, definitely have their hands full trying to contain him. He came into camp a little slender, a little more slimmed down. has always been a knock on him. Goes like he’s paying a little bit more attention to the physicalness of himself and just being in more game shape. Devin, you know, how do you scheme for a big man like that? If you’re San Antonio, you’re you’re not going to put Wimby on him because might bully him and well then again, Wimby does have a little muscle to him, right? But I’m looking at guys like Cornet. I’m looking at guy like those guys uh to really take the load off Wimby and let let them handle uh Zion. What do you think? All right. So, let’s start with this. So, he’s an athletic forward. Uh can get around anywhere near the rim, the top of the goals, things like that. So, yes. Do do you look at a Harrison Barnes um for a few minutes? Do you look at a uh Kevin Johnson for a few minutes? Um Wimby? No. fourth quarter. If it comes down to it, maybe Wimby take that matchup kind of, you know, wanting to do that then, but early in the game, you just want to kind of contain Zion, right? Um because he is healthy right now. He’s going to have, you know, a ton of energy. Um so with that said, you’re going to see multiple guys on him. Uh now, Cornett, I love the physical play that he did with, you know, Anthony Davis. right, in the prior game. So maybe you’ll see him on there because that’s a different feel, too. So you’re going to see a different looks. All right. Not going to be one guy and we we’ll see how they handle that. But obviously in game they’ll they’ll definitely Mitch and his guys will definitely make adjustments. Yeah, exactly. And then what makes Zion a lot more of a headache than he already is is get this. In game one versus the Pelicans, although a loss, Devin, he had five steals. Yeah, five steals. He’s a menace on offense. He’s a menace on defense. You know, it’s like the Spurs have Wimby, he’s a menace on both sides of the court. They got Zion. He’s a menace on both sides of the court. So, this should be an interesting match up to see how the Spurs handle Zion Wood. But it also means that the sports got to also focus on other players on the Pelican side. Now looking at game one for the Pels, you saw contributions from Herbert Herb Jones, Jordan Pool, the newest member, Trey Murphy the third. By the way, what’s up with Trey Murphy? Every time you see Silver and Black, man, it’s like it’s time to show off like Steph Curry and start. Yeah, he shoots shoots it very well. Yeah, he had 13 points in game one versus uh the Grizzlies for New Orleans. This New Orleans team may not be looking at playoffs. They may not be looking at a playin, but they’re still a dangerous team because they have kind of a light inside out game with shooters and of course Zion. Your thoughts? Okay, so this, you know, I got to take you back a little bit. So, you know, before they were the Pelicans, they were the Hornets. I played there. So, I’ll give you a little insight on what we’re thinking. Yeah, you love playing against the Mavs. you love playing against um the Rockets, but you’re that silver and black. You got to be ready for that silver and black because that’s the standard. Yeah. Okay. When you’re in New Orleans, that’s the standard. Uh that’s how we looked at it. That’s how they’re looking at it. They’re going to have a ton of injury. I mean, a a ton of energy. Um they’re they’re not a old team. They’re a young team kind of mixed in there. So, they’re going to be ready to go. is going to be another, you know, tough road test. You know, coming off a great victory. All the Spurs have to do is get off and have a great first quarter. Get off, you know, to a good start. Give yourself some confidence, right? Give yourself a chance in that fourth quarter and you go from there. Yeah. So, Zion, you know, the shooting from Trey Murphy, Jordan Pool is another threat, but you’re looking at that bench now. Jeremiah Fierce. Yes. in his debut. 17 points, two assists. He had just two fouls committed, so he played a clean game, but 70% shooting. The Spurs perimeter defense might be tested tonight considering all the shooters, the snipers that the Pelicans have. Well, I mean, it’s like they’re looking in the mirror, right? You know, the Spurs have some guys that can knock it down and they’re going to be guarding guys that are starting off well, you know, outside the three. So, it’s going to be a great test, you know, for the Spurs, the guards early, and uh, you know, we’ll we’ll see how they can definitely handle it. Yeah. Yeah. The Spurs, despite the Pelicans 0 and one to start the season, going into the New Orleans will not be easy. This is a young team. It’s a dynamic team. This is the team that can play some defense, that can hit some outside shots, and of course, Zion. But yeah, so the Spurs definitely will be tested. But what about the Spurs? What should they be keying on? What should they be adjusting on? What about Wimi? We’re gonna We know what Let’s Let’s see what the Spurs need to do in game two of the season right here on Lockdown Spurs. Make sure to follow him on X at Devin Brown 933. Again, he is the newest member of Locked on Spurs family. Join us here on the Mothership for his debut. Don’t forget, Lockdown Spurs host are hosting here at We’ll check that out tonight after games. All right, so we looked at the Pelicans. Let’s look at San Antonio now. I mean, my goodness. Um, are you sure the uh Mavericks in return to My Little Ponies afterwards because they just smoked Dallas in game one, ruining Cooper Flags debut, put a beatdown on San Antonio, or should I say the Spur or Wimby put a beatd down on the Mavericks. Uh, 40 points, 15 rebounds. More on him later. But if you’re San Antonio, my first thing, my first key to a win tonight is I know it’s only game one, Devin, but my goodness, don’t get complacent. Don’t get complacent. Don’t think that this team is big and bad after one game. Come out and have that appropriate fear versus New Orleans. Your thoughts? No, no, no, no, no, no. That’s that’s not what the uh the Spurs organization is about. They understand what it was. Took care of business uh game one. Um probably when the wheels land uh on the on the next game uh that’s over with and we got we got more work to do. Uh that was just game one. We did what we had to do. Our star player was our star. You know that was the biggest thing when I was with Sanario. That was Tim Duncan. So I saw a lot a lot of things. Oh I thought it was you Devin. Devin I thought it was you. I could have swore it was you know. Okay. I I met with Pop a couple of times. you know, you know, I love to throw the ball to 21. I like to have the ball a little bit more. Hey, listen, I was almost back at UTSA when I was talking like that. So, you know, I I I threw it to I threw it to 21. But, you know, when you have your stars play well um and and Wimi is the star, right? Um and those other guys play with a ton of confidence. There’s confidence all over the place. You know, I can go up and down with, you know, what I saw, the greatness that I saw in some of the other guys. Um, but I’ll tell you what, all season they’re not going to be able to depend on just Wimi doing that. I mean, he’s a great player. He’s in his third year and we we all understand that. But I’ll tell you what, you have some guys that are waiting in the wings when Wimi may have one of those 20 point nights. You’re going to get two or three other guys in the high 20s and u you’re going to be looking at a very successful, you know, game for that night and game stack on games for the season. So, you know, great job. Uh, you know, Castle Castle had a great game. I thought Facel played well. Uh, I thought Kell Johnson was just the old Kellen. That was great to see last night. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. He Kell definitely was a big contributor to the win last night as well as Devin and Castle. But again, so that’s my first key. My first quote unquote I guess non-adjustment is just don’t get complacent. You hit it on the head. these they likely are not going to do that. They’re going to forget about game one and move on to game two tonight. Now, one other adjustment I would like to see too is I like to see Julian Champany find that stroke that we saw in preeason. Uh he went one for three versus Dallas. He went one for two from the three line. Now, don’t get me wrong, I get it. Wimi was on beast mode. They’re gonna be feeding him all night. He’s feeding the hand. But I need to see a little bit more floor spacing. Uh especially tonight because because you know if you want to have Wimby and do what he did versus Dallas again, he needs floor spacing and I think that should I think that should help. I I like to see Julian Champeni get a little bit more rhythm tonight. Your thoughts? Okay. I I love that. I love that. Um here’s the thing. Wimby hits a couple of shots. is going to space the score and it’s going to give you what it is that you’re looking for. Now, you know, with with so many good guards that the Spurs have, um, if I’m him, I take that one of three. Yeah. All right. If there’s any time that everybody in the system feels like there’s a certain guard that’s forcing the ball a little bit, you know, because you are looking for your three. um you may not get those comfortable threes right you understand now there there’s some ways that you can adjust things like that but I’ll just say this the first four or five possessions get the ball to Wimi um to start the game and then play out of that kind of see what’s going to flow after that yeah exactly yeah so you know I mean obviously it ends and begins with Wimby all season long knocking on wood no injuries, but really it does. It begins and ends with him. But, you know, one other adjustment I like to see, at least player-wise, we’ll get to team in a bit, is I hope this young man you see on your screen, Dylan Harper, shook out the butterflies, shook out the butterflies, you know, got all that little, you know, nervousness out of his system because once he did that versus Dallas, he had himself a a solid solid game. Let me pull up his numbers. I’ll leave his picture on here for for everybody to see. the new member of the Spurs here. Uh he had, let me figure it out here. Here we go. 10 for 14. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. 15 points. He had two assist. He had four rebounds shots. Seven for 14 from the field. My goodness. My goodness. That is Jeff, can I say this? Go ahead. Let me tell you something. When they run that high pick and roll and he’s going with his left hand, now he can go either way. left hand, right hand. But when he gets downhill with that left hand and he gets an angle on you, oh man, he he’s explosive. Yeah, he is. Now, now imagine this. Now, imagine this. Now, I know, you know, I don’t want I’m my first time on the show. I don’t want to ruffle any feathers. Ruffle them, please. Ruffle them. Ruffle them. You can actually you can actually play him and Castle together and not lose a beat. Really interesting. I know it’s early. Listen listen, the pedigree that that Dylan comes from, you can play him at the one and survive at least 15 to 20 games. Yeah. Yeah. And if you play Cassm too now, I understand that he shot 29% from the three last year, but I think I think that he’s he’s done a ton of work on his spot up shooting. Mhm. And obviously with De’Aran going down right now, uh Castle’s, you know, he’s playing the one and things like and he’s very comfortable at the one. Yeah, he is. But imagine the two of them defensively. Stop. Oh, man. Yeah. Stop. I’m going stop. Yeah. Hey, cuz Jeff, I’m a at the end of the day, I’m a coach now. That’s right. You are. Yeah. That’s right. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Obviously, not at the NBA level, but I’m a coach. Yeah. Never. But nevertheless, the point is is that Castle and Harper, there is something there. I don’t think it’ll happen soon. You know, I think they’re going to let the young young buck cut his cut his teeth on the bench. No. Look, you know, if it’s a desperate situation, foul trouble. Castle Fox when he comes back. Sure. But right now, I think they’re let him cook a little bit on that bench. But what we saw earlier a couple days ago in Dallas from Harper, that was really, really good. Not bad for a debut. And he has one up on Cooper Flag. He got his first W. Not Cooper. There you go, Mr. Number one overall pick there. Once again, we’re joined by Devin Brown, the newest member of the Lock Spurs family here. He is part of the Lockdown Spurs host cast. every game right afterwards. He and host Casey Vieira, they break down what happened uh when the Spurs are either home or on the road. When we get back, we’re going to a little bit more about the Pelicans Spurs game tonight and then dive into my goodness when I I swear he he must have collected all the stones and put it on his hands cuz he was on one versus Dallas. Lockdown first postgame shows hosted by Mirror and Deon Brown. do that right now or Devin might have to just posterize you and you don’t want that to happen. Yeah, you don’t want that. The poster. Yeah, you don’t want that. Hey, you know, before we talk about Wimy’s big game one versus Dallas, a little bit more about tonight’s matchup. Um what And look, it was a great game, you know, the other night, you know, versus Dallas. And we’ll get to it in a bit, but my god, what what I’m left with heading into tonight’s game is this. If that’s what the Spurs did versus Dallas, imagine what they are at full power with Sohan back, Fox back. Oh, and by the way, veteran Olen back. They were without three. Them three. This team, you know, this team probably did collect all the stones and put on the gauntlet because they look like they’re Thanos right now. I know it’s one game, but my goodness, put it all together, this is a deadly team. Your thought? Well, yeah. you know, you know, Coach Mitch, uh, you know, he’ll have some, you know, problems on his hands trying to get everybody minutes, trying to keep everybody happy, but, you know, after the last, you know, couple of years that this the San Antonio Spurs have had, uh, you want those problems. You want to have those conversations with your assistant coaches and things like that. So, um, but you know, I’m going to say this. There were some things that I saw defensively, um, that, you know, aren’t the San Antonio Spurs, and I’m sure that they’ll get pointed out, uh, today. Um, well, what what did you see? What did you see defensively? Uh, there were some guys that were late on rotations. Uh, I’m not, you know, I don’t want to say any I’m not going to say any names, uh, but there were some guys that were were late on rotations. Um there was some uh some plays, some 5050 balls that some of the Spurs, you know, our Spurs didn’t get to. Um and those are the things that are obviously will help a head coach keep the ear of his team and those will be the the points that’ll get hit on the day. You know, they’ll watch film, they’ll watch about 15 20 clips and um now if if you’re popped, it would be all bad stuff. you know, you got this great feeling. You go 1 and0, you go 6 and0, you go 5-0 in the preseason, you win your first game. When we got in that hotel, it was nothing but the bad stuff. He wanted to keep you in line because it was just one game. Uh, so you understand, you know, where he’s going with that. So, you know, if I’m Mitch, you know, I I I pat them on their back last night when I shook their hand at the end of the game, but now that’s over. We got to get ready for New Orleans. And I’m pretty sure that’s the uh environment that they’re keeping right now. That’s right. Pelicans and Spurs tonight on the road. They’ll make their home uh debut this Sunday. So hang on tight. Spurs fans in San Antonio. They’ll be here. Now I’m leaving Wimby on screen on purpose. Devin, right? Let’s talk about again his game. First of all, you know, can we just tell Shaq just get over it? Or I don’t know if you saw, but after the game on uh inside the NBA on ESPN, Shaq said that he eats French fries and French toast. So, we know what he’s talking about. He thought he would eat be alive. Yeah, I did not see that. Uh with all due, you know, respect to Shaq. Um you know, I I get it. I I’ve I’ve uh hit uh Shaq’s hips a couple of times and I understand where he’s coming from when he says that. But in the end, let’s get back to what it is that we’re talking about is Wim and the performance that he had. So, right, what I said last night and what moving forward with where I see Wimby’s gain, um, he took the shots that he wanted to take last night, you know, driving that left shoulder in, driving that right shoulder in, getting to his spot, rising above, and I knew the young man had it going when he did the little uh, one step fade away and got fouled at one. I think it I believe it was midsec quarter. That’s when I knew he he was on one that night. And when you’re on when your superstars are on one that night, you get them the bomb. And I’ll tell you what, you do what what Pop used to tell us. You just get out of the way and you let them beat. Yeah, exactly. Now, um I put this graphic on here. Let’s see. I get it up here for us, Devin. Let me take this off and put it on. Here we go. Look at that. That’s what Wimby did. Now everybody knows about the numbers the 40 and 15 and but if you dive deeper Devin 71% shooting and what I like that was mostly near the rim in the paint. I also like that as far as the three shots are concerned only he took two. That’s been a big among sports fans and other people that you take too many threes when well he definitely didn’t. He only took two made one and that was a spectacular one and one on the three shot. um 14 defensive rebounds. You know, the list goes on and on. He was a plus 31. A freaking plus 31. Plus 31. That is just ridiculous. All right. So, let me let me out here, Jeff. Go ahead. All right. So, looking at these numbers. Yeah, I’m leave it up there for you, Devin. Yeah. Yeah. Leave it up there for me because I’m going to tell you where it is that if he you know if he’s sitting down uh you know with coach and we’re going to highlight some of these things. Obviously the plus 31 stands out first, right? Not the 40 points, the plus 31. That means he’s doing everything that he can do to help his team win. Now number two, to highlight on what you’re saying, the one of two from three. Okay. We didn’t settle on that. We were aggressive. I see the 11 free throws. All right. We were good there. All right. one negative, four fouls. Need you in the game, fella. You know, don’t go there. Now, yeah, the 71% that that’s telling you because anytime you go 15 of 21, right? You’re in your zone and you’re taking the shots that you want to take. That speaks to the point that I’m making. Now, obviously, at the end of the day, when you do things like that, you end up like that 40 and 15. Now, of the 14 defensive rebounds, he may, you know, just from a coaching standpoint, he may they may talk to him a little bit about the one, you know, you’re 75 that’s that’s, you know, at least three or four, but we’re not going to nitpick, right? We’re we’re going to we’re going to love this. He did all this in 30 minutes. And at the end of the day, I think what it comes down to and and what they’ll really praise him for is just the fact that he took the shots that were comfortable for him. He worked on for the summer and that’s what you love to see out of him. Yeah. I mean, my goodness. You know, if I had to nitpick, too. Uh I’m looking at that assist number. I’m again, I’ll take it off screen in a bit, everybody. But, uh, one assist that’s he goes, look, you know, I say something. Go ahead. I averaged that in high school and college. He’s good. Well, then you know what? You know, Wimby then don’t worry about it. You know, stop facilitating. No, but but all all jokes aside, no, I would like to see him maybe get involved, his teammates involved over. I look, I get it. It’s a one game, right? We understand that he was feeling it. So, maybe that wasn’t in the bag for that day. Or how about this? How many did he kick out and the guy didn’t make it? That’s true. There’s that as well. Yeah. as I look at Julian Champeni. I’m kidding everybody. I’m kidding. Uh but uh but nevertheless, yeah, I like to see the the the assist come up. So that that’s not just on him, but it is also on his teammates. Got to knock down those shots because look, it would not surprise me if he does continues doing this. You know, maybe not a 40 and 15 no turnover night, but high numbers like this, it’s not an it’s not out of the realm of possibility, but he will need help. But he got it as you mentioned, you know, the the points by Vasel, the points by Castle, Kellen, uh, you know, he had some some great help doing some dirty work from Cornet. All in all, a good game. But hey, Jimmy, before I let you go, let’s go and play a game of buy and sell. I put us back on screen here. Um, all right, let’s have some fun. We usually do this with new guest. Uh, well, you’ll actually be a recurring guest because you’re not part of the Lock Sport family, but since you are technically a new guest, let’s have some fun. We’re going to play a game of buy and sell. Devin, I spare no expense at my graphics here on Lockdown Spurs. Look at that. Look at that. I mean, my goodness, De, don’t be impressed now. Don’t be too impressed. All right, let’s going to have a little game of buy and sell with Devin Brown. And uh here we go. Buy or sell Devon that Wimby will put up another 40 burger uh in the next week. I’ll give you a week of games. A week of games. So, we’re looking at two or two or three. Yeah, we’re looking about the next two three games. Yeah, he’ll put up another 40 burger. So, we got Pelicans tonight. All right. Oh, okay. He doesn’t need to look at the schedule, anybody. He’s just going to say, “I’m buying. I’m buying.” Yeah. I I would not be surprised if he does that again. Buy or sell that when Dear Fox gets back, there’s just I mean, there’s no stopping this team. I think he’s that missing ingredient for making this team almost impossible to defend. Buy or sell. Oo, you know, he does bring a great aspect to the game. He does. Go sell. Woo. He’s going to sell it. I’m gonna sell it just because I I it it’s going to take me about four or five games to see the chemistry. Okay. Because when he comes back, you’re going to push Harper to the bench. Mhm. Yep. That’s That’s tough. Yeah, that is tough. Yeah, I still I sell that. Yeah. Yeah. I’m I’m actually going to buy it. I I think uh with spots added in the mix. Uh maybe not immediately, but shortly thereafter in the next couple of games after he returns and the pick and roll with him and Wimby, pick and roll with him and Cornette. uh you know his his speed, his ability to get downhill, the transition offense would just be humming. So, I’m gonna buy that. I think the I think the rest of the league has a huge headache if you’re an opposing team with the San Antonio Spurs. And the last buy and sell, and this actually goes out to everybody watching right now. All right. Buy or sell that Devin Brown can dunk on Wimby. I’m uh What do you think about that one? No, I’m selling that. I play golf. No, I ain’t happening. No more basketball. No, just coaching, right? Just Yeah, I’ll coach. I don’t even I don’t even shoot shots with my uh my players that I’m coaching. I just let them do it. It’s It’s their world now. I have no I’ll tell you what. Hey, if I’m 65 yards out, watch out. Watch out. Watch out. Yeah. Be careful everybody on the green. Devin’s coming for you. Hey, he is Devin Brown, the newest member of the Lockdown Spurs family, making his debut on the Mothership. Yeah. Yeah, exactly. Yeah, I’ve been I’ve been giving him grief. Yeah. Yeah. Give him continue giving the Or when he comes out locked on Spurs again, I’m about to give him the grief.
