Miami Heat and Jimmy Butler Square Away Fines Tumultuous Season | Would Return Be Different w/ Time?

Hey, what’s up guys? Tobin here with you and thanks for checking out the channel Yurascals. Uh if you guys could subscribe, that’d be great. Uh Heat season is back. We uh did ourselves a recap uh after the Miami Heat lost their opener. Great game overall. You know, sometimes I do these games, uh you know, do these recaps right after. I’m emotional. I’m not very mature and uh you know, my I I don’t take anything back. I just, you know, you do settle down after, you know, some thought and reflection. Then I go back, I listen to what people say after the game. It is what it is, man. They’re back at it against the Grizzlies, uh, who tonight beat the New Orleans Pelicans in the old battle between first and second pick from the 2019 draft. John Morant, who of course with some question marks whether he was going to be ready for the opener. He was big game for him tonight. Uh 35 points. Uh efficient night. Jiren Jackson also played some injury questions around him. So he won’t have uh Edy in the uh in this matchup, but uh they will get as full a look at these Memphis Grizzlies. Jaylen Wells, of course, rookie sensation for them. Kind of was part of the reason that Desmond Bane was made available to the Orlando Magic. So, that is the Heat’s next matchup coming on up. Uh Cedric Coward, their rookie, he had a perfect day from the field. 14 points, five of five. Jeez Louise. Uh what did Zion do in this game? 27 for Zion, nine rebounds, five assists, five steals. All right, that one is uh so the Heat will uh get the Grizzlies on the road on Friday. And of course, we’ll have our full recap of that. Um but there was a piece of Heat news. I didn’t want to do this before the game today on the recap. Just felt like, well, let’s see how the game goes. You know, I don’t know if it’ll change my mood or opinion or any of that type of stuff. And in some ways, yeah, in some ways, no. because I don’t really think this I don’t think this really has to do with this year’s team very much, but Ira Winderman reported uh before the game today that the Miami Heat and Jimmy Butler have finally come to a resolution on all the fines from Jimmy Butler’s final season with the Miami Heat. Uh he writes that the Heat and Jimmy Butler’s representation have come to an agreement on the roughly $6 million fines withheld and withheld salary assessed last season with a compromise reached at half that amount. So all in all, it sounds like Jimmy Butler cost him about $3 million for all of the nonsense that he did last year in his final season with the Miami Heat. Um, Ira writes, “According to multiple parties familiar with the process that began with an appeal as soon as the penalties were enacted last season, the agreement has been finalized with the NBA, the Suns Sentinel confirms. Source familiar with the negotiations said that the agreement satisfied both parties within the heat found within their rights to assess the penalties, but with Butler also reasonable in questioning to the degree of the sanctions.” Um, along the way, one of Butler’s suspensions was rescended this summer. Okay, there you go. So, um, neither Heat nor Butler’s agent, Bernie Lee, chose to comment on the settlement. Both sides previously have stressed the goal of putting it behind them and the components of acquire Butler. Okay, so those are the details on that. Ira, great reporting from him to I I I honestly had forgotten about it. I was like, “Oh, yeah, what does happen with those fines? I knew that they were going to get appealed and just kind of go somewhere with all of the conduct detrimental to the team and missing all the games that he had. And uh ultimately Jimmy Butler came out this week, right? Uh or I don’t know when the interview was, but the interview came out this week and it was said, “Hey, the chaos was all worth it. It got me here.” Uh got him the last year of his deal. But it did get me to thinking because um I don’t know if you guys saw this, but uh for those who are only Heat fans who watch my Heat stuff on this channel, you guys know I have a radio show. Uh weekdays 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. We are the Florida Panthers flagship. Love my cats. And yesterday was a very well I don’t know when you’ll watch this. on Tuesday. Very emotional day as I’m watching WebMyama. Oh my god, what a move he just put. Was that on Anthony Davis? Good god. Weama. Yikes. Crazy spell. It’ be nice if uh he would play the only guy who could guard him in the league. Um I’m lashing out still. I’m lashing out. I need to get over it. Good god. What a spin move. Sheesh. It’s Victor Wmanyama tall. Um, what was I talking about? Oh, so anyway, on Tuesday, Brad Marshand, uh, Florida Panthers, uh, winger scoring sensation and was, of course, the former captain of the Boston Bruins. And he got traded to the Panthers last year, of course, was essential in them winning the championship. He had a monster Stanley Cup final, was an argument for the consm. He was that good in the final when he really turned it up. Um, amazing game five, amazing everything. He was just really good. Um, but this guy was like A1 enemy of the Panthers and him going to the Panther. Uh, him going to the Panthers was super weird. And now he’s like beloved because everybody loves the his the way he carries himself, the Dairy Queen. Cool dude. And the reason I bring it up is because he had his return to Boston and he didn’t really leave on like super cont. It’s not like he quit on his team. He didn’t leave on super contentious terms, but um I guess in the parallel to Butler, it was like, hey, Boston had kind of had its run. Uh he was aging. They didn’t want to extend him. And they were really went in the toilet last year. they fired their coach and and then Boston was like, you know, I think you guys saw like Jimmy Butler at one point was wearing like a Matthew Kachchuck jersey. Like that’s when Boston and Florida were really going at it and the Panthers kind of took everything from Boston. Boston went from the one seed to rough and tumble. You know, this was all happening parallel with the Heats runs, right? And you know, we get to the end of it. Long story short, the Heat basically uh the Panthers basically do what happened to the Heat. Like the Heats dynasty or the Heats dynasty, the Heat’s contending team got toppled over by injuries and not doing enough and Boston got beat by the Panthers and they just never been the same and Brad Marian ends up a Panther. He has his return. Very long-winded way of saying he had his return. So anyway, I want to get to his return. His return was super emotional. It was gooseies galore. Boston did it really right with uh with the tribute. He saw his kids in the video and it was really really awesome. And it got me thinking about Jimmy’s return and just how unenjoyable it was other than the point of the Heat getting a team petty win because that’s probably one of the best games we’ve seen them play. I know Steph Curry in that game but Jimmy Butler stunk up the joint. Ban was awesome. The team was awesome. collo circus shot and it was very frosty, you know, being there for the warm-ups where Jimmy walks out to warm up while Bam is warming up. Uh, first of all, Jimmy never I found it odd because Jimmy never warms up on the Heat court when he played for the Heat. He never did. He warmed up upstairs. So, when when he walked out there, that was odd in its own right. But, uh, him and Bam not talking to each other. The only guys he really talked to were Kevin Love and Terry Roier. and all that. So, why am I bringing this up with all this resolution happening? It made me think about uh how everybody’s feeling because I watched Jimmy Butler’s debut. He was awesome for the Golden State Warriors. And I do think that, you know, Jimmy Butler, who will probably get dinged up at some point this year, but you know, ultimately, if he can stay healthy and Steph Curry’s healthy, I think that’s going to be a pretty damn good team. I don’t know if they can win the West, but I think that that team’s going to be pretty damn good. I I don’t think either one of those guys are so washed that together I think they can do something. If one of them gets hurt, they’re cooked. Um because I don’t think the coach really trusts Kaminga, even though Kaminga you would hope take some kind of a leap for them. But it got me thinking um with all of this that you know the Miami Heat really got to a point where they didn’t want to pay Jimmy that last year. And you guys, if you follow my work know that I was very pro paying Jimmy Butler. I thought that he had done enough that he had earned a one one more year on the guarantee he already had. So essentially, he had an option and then he has another year and so he’s now in that option year which got turned into a two-year deal that goes through next year. And I really am curious about this because we just got to the point of Tyler Hero and his extension passing that he didn’t pay him. the Heat are invested in Bam Adabio and then they’re not really invested in anybody else outside of one Davon Mitchell year which by the way after his debut he looks like a steal. Um and then Nicola Yovic who after his debut you’re like I’m just kidding you know I love Yoic but really the Heat it’s been punted a couple of times like oh well they’re gonna they wanted to keep it open for 26 and there’s like well there’s no free agents in 26. although they wanted to keep it open for 27. And it’s like I look at those lists and the thing that’s interesting about this is like, okay, who exactly is unless they really want to live in Miami because wherever they live sucks, who is the person that Miami’s got circled? Because if they don’t have anybody, what was the point of not paying Jimmy Butler, right? Like, and I get it. There’s a couple of things that was always in the Heat’s ether with Jimmy. They thought he was a pain in the ass. He wasn’t like, you know, didn’t love doing media. He was always like a It was always like a thing. I know people have made a lot about like, oh, the locker room and the music. All right. But like, push comes to shove. the guy was your best player and you know gave you some really really good years and you didn’t want to pay him because you were scared about him aging out of the contract which maybe he will I don’t I do acknowledge look when he didn’t have Steph he stunk up the joint in the end at the in the playoffs last year you know I know that he was dealing with his back which has been an issue lower back injuries and ankle foot injuries are pretty frequent with Jimmy and I think those for things that are worrisome. You know, he comes out last night like a absolute bandit getting a ton of free throws, but how long can he keep it up? I think those are real worries. There were some metrics and physics that you had to wonder about, but if they would have paid him, um would you know, you don’t throw away a season like you did last year, right? It’s not as chaotic. Would it have been untradable even if parties wanted to move on? I don’t know. And and I keep just coming back to like what what are they going to do with that money, right? Like that was the thing. That’s the thing that I am kind of curious on because the Heat keep they’re in this like weird place of like they’re going to try some things out this year. They’re going to try and play different. Norman Pal looks awesome. So, like off the tentacles of the Jimmy Butler trade, Norman Palon Mitchell look really, really good. Andrew Wiggins, Andrew Wiggins look good. Um, but they don’t seem sure if they’re going to invest in Tyler Herro and they need Bam Adabio to start living up to the max contract and especially the money that he is going to make in the coming years of it, right? And it just it just got me wondering with the whole thing with this being resolved. And and the other part of it that I wonder with the with the Marshian thing was man that return last year. It sucks that the intro video was like the Heat did it out of obligation because they they basically did it so nobody can say they didn’t do it. Um but it was like it was so gooseless on on the goosey scale. It was like a two out of 10 and that may be generous. Like it was just so antilimactic and you know people were pissed. They didn’t want to they didn’t want to celebrate this. They there was there was so much fury. And the thing with the Marshian trade that happened last year that was beneficial is he gets traded. The Panthers play Boston. He can’t play because he’s hurt. So they got to kind of let this men for a year. And it got me wondering like if if Jimmy and the Heat It was like five weeks I think of time that separated and it was super awkward. Like he got his ass kicked. He left you know as there wasn’t a lot of closure from it. And I do wonder what that whole era is going to end up being remembered like with the franchise. I don’t think fondly right now. I think I’m sure the quotes that happened this week irked him. Although they say they all want to move on, you know, that’s obviously not true because even when LeBron comes out about stuff from the big three era, they’re they’re like rushing to leak stuff. Is that’s not what happened. But so I just it just were a couple things that I wondered when I saw this was settled. I was like, “Oh, that’s okay. Good. That’s I guess it is officially behind.” But two, watching Marianne get the the the return that he did, it’s a bummer that Jimmy’s not going to get that. A part of a part, if not a lot of that is on him for the way he left. So, I’m not letting him skate on that. Okay, just so I’m clear on that. Like, it’s it’s it’s also his fault that he got such a return. Like the reason he’s not getting all the popping circumstances because of his actions, why he has to have $3 million in fines, which is not nothing. And it just sucks that an era that was cool, disappointing because they never got to the end, but there were also some circumstances that caused that, injuries that caused that. um whatifs that will leave you wondering. And would time have healed that like if we would have just gone through last year and his first return would have been I think his first game is what November middle of November would that have been better maybe with all this behind and everybody wanting a fresh start be we’ll be playing you know body language detective once he rolls through town this next time around but you got to think that the drama has subsided and then also for the heat Um, yeah, they got to hope that they don’t win the championship, right? Like you got to hope that they’re decent, but uh that he never gets to a place that you were too scared to pay him to get. And based on how luck goes for the Warriors, you know, I wouldn’t be surprised if they end up there because that just seems how it goes with them. But also, all right, you had this fear you didn’t want to pay him, and what are you going to do with that? Right? because the he did this with Dwayne Wade and they’re that ended up with them paying Dion Waiters, James Johnson and Hassan Whiteside and like what did you what were you hesitant about paying him for? You know, ended up all good at the end, but like what was the payoff there? I guess at the end you got to do a sign and trade with Jimmy Butler, but like you know, you had to like attach assets and it was pretty crazy to get there. I don’t think you were really that wasn’t the route. You know, you ended up at your destination, but you kind of took the uh the extra scenic route to get there. And I guess you also got Dwayne White to influence Jimmy Butler to get there. So, there was some positives. This one I don’t know like I don’t what is he going to do? Route Pensky to the Heat? Like I I don’t I don’t know what the the payoff is ultimately going to be. And I do think that like, you know, you see something from like Jimmy’s party that are on social media and you can tell like they there’s a little reminiscing of they miss Jimmy Butler. Like I know Jimmy’s doing this whole thing of like he likes being rotten and he loves playing Steph. And of course it’s Steph Curry, right? Who wasn’t? Who wouldn’t want to play? I love Steph Curry. If you don’t like Steph Curry, like I I don’t know. You’re probably like one of those weird LeBron only freaks, but like everybody loves Steph Curry, so who wouldn’t want to play with Steph Curry? And of course, you’re going to be Robin when you are Steph Curry. Like the only people who wouldn’t be would be like Nicole Joic at this point. Like it’s he’s he’s and Wendy like that. And even WBY would be to Steph like he’s Steph Curry. But you know Jimmy has gone to this accepting role of he’s the two he’s the Robin now. it’s not his franchise and now it’s just about him getting to the the final destination. But I’m sure like even there you can see the reminiscing that they have about like oh man missing when he’s the man because he was the man. And it’s unfortunate that now that era is just kind of like stored away in a closet and just put on every three weeks from somebody who’s like remember the 56-point game. It’s like yes we all remember it. We all remember it. It was amazing. But unfortunately, you know, the tactics after the contract negotiations didn’t go right were quite extreme. And so now it’s like that has to be forgotten and put away rather than celebrated and remembered like Marshand was because he didn’t take a blowtorrch to his legacy. So I don’t know. These are like late night thoughts that I had just with the whole thing getting settled because it sucks that the return it sucks the air ended the way that it did. It sucks that there wasn’t that celebration of that time. Will there ever be with a jersey retirement? I hope so, but I feel like I feel like that’s a long ways away. And I wouldn’t be surprised if it doesn’t. If I have old Toes in charge, of course, but I’m not, you know, I’m just a carnival barker on the uh on a microphone. I’m a carnival bucker. And then also with that hesit hesitancy to pay him, I do want to see like, hey, what is the Heats playing here, right? Like this year is going to be intriguing, but where’s it going? Like what? Because you were so hesitant to pay the guy who helped lead you to heights, not the ultimate height, but heights. And what are you going to do with the years that you were so hesitant to pay him? Because it’s this year and next year and told like, “Oh, we got this plan. All right. I’m kind of curious to see what it is.” And you know, that’s that that’s what that these are these are just things that that wander through my head in the midst of all this. Good to see it’s all settled though. BL the finds are behind everybody.

Tobin reacts to a report from Ira Winderman in the Sun-Sentinel that the Miami Heat and Jimmy Butler squared away $6 million worth of fines down to half that amount. Tobin wonders after Brad Marchand’s emotional return to Boston, with a season apart from his shocking trade to the Panthers, would a Jimmy Butler return game to Miami have been better with a summer gap? Plus with the Miami Heat in flux and Butler looking really strong in his first Warriors game this season, were the Miami Heat right to have been scared to pay him and what do they plan on doing with that money since they didn’t extend Tyler Herro?

  1. The Heat picking mid Bam over amazing Jimmy makes anything Jimmy did not his fault. He did everything & the Heat turned around & paid the guy he carried. They’re lucky he didn’t burn the whole thing down

  2. Heat front office BLEW it on many fronts during the Jimmy era. Always overvalued Tyler Herro when the market was telling you he wasn't that. Instead of getting solid role players for Herro when your title window was open, you're not even extending Herro anyway, possibly trading him before paying him. All for what? Trying to get a superstar on YOUR terms for a bag of chips and a paperclip? Now you got Bam on a max contract on a team going NOWHERE. Please trade that man to a contender he's useless in this life cycle of the Miami Heat. Please get a haul for Bam because you didn't with Jimmy. Especially, when you already made up your mind not paying Jimmy and thought it was gonna go swimmingly because you like to smell your own Heat Culture farts. Not paying Jimmy an extra year and we get milktoast basketball. Spo still trying to win games with small ball instead of playing your young bigs lol.

  3. Bro, you're selling yourself. Short ice cubes are a sign o' maturity. We come here for the emotional reaction bro. Come on now. I appreciate both videos

  4. Jimmy was the best player in Miami for 5 years and the heat said “ bam, YOURE the captain, here’s 50 million a year !!” Both Pat Riley and spo are washed. Trying to play small ball in 2025 when u got an athletic 7 footer on the bench is diabolical. And he’s also WAYY more talented and tougher than your max contract player. Paid Niko but won’t even trust him to close a game. He plays Jaime for 30+ min at the 4 when he absolutely shit the bed for a whole year but ware still has to “earn it”. What a fkn joke man 🤦🏽‍♂️

  5. I think I'll scale back my viewership Tobes. Front office not perfect. Squad not perfect but I'm going to support whoever is on the floor. I ride or die with the squad (more die these days lol) but sometimes you fans in the comments section are too toxic. Can't appreciate the ups if you don't have downs. There are 81 more games left to go. I think for my sanity I'll only visit on wins. Tobes… easy on the liquor… your kids need you.

  6. Emo-Jimmy Butler became a toxic force on this team as he sabotaged our season last year. I was happy the moment we sent him packing to Golden State. Some of you ingrate Heat "fans" forget that Pat Riley came here and created a culture, winning teams and championships. Anyone who has their dander up over Jimmy Butler not being here can go follow his emo-ass and be a fan of that aging team in San Francisco . 😤

  7. If they would of paid jimmy, it still would not have been enough to get over the hump. They were probably hoping he would take less and they would have more flexibility to sign better role players. Its a better plan then just paying jimmy and accepting we are not going to contend.

  8. NBA pay scale is a joke ..
NBA draft is a joke ..
After Pat Riley pulled the coup de gras….
Nobody will ever get one on the NBA again…
    Look at the landscape..
    Look at the contracts..
    Look at the cap..
And look what's going on right now with Terry rozier..
The games are fixed especially now with this legalized gambling…
    The NFL's a joke NBA's a joke & Baseball..
    It's all about money..
    It's all about the owners..
    It's all about gambling…
I've lost all hope for sports..
I am not surprised that Terry rozier got hemmed up
I'm not surprised that Chauncey billups got hemmed up.

But yet they want to sit there and talk about Jordan & Brady being the goats..lol .
    The fix is in..
This is why I don't watch sports anymore.
    It's an absolute joke.

It'd be nice if y'all just go out there and play…JUST PLAY
But no they have the Leagues,, Vegas , Mob….etc …
    I can't watch sports anymore…
The fixes in it's always been in but now it's so evident and obvious…
