That is Mario Turbosi in Madison, Wisconsin at the place. No, that’s where I live according to a lot of people. But uh quite quite might as well. Yeah, I’m at my sister’s place uh for the weekend for uh birthday weekend for my niece. So, um actually I was telling you guys I I I thought leaving the house. I was just like, should I grab my work bag? Nah. What could happen? Well, it happened. Lucas Freckle is uh finally uh training. And I don’t mean that in a celebratory way, but it’s it’s been it’s been on the way for a little while here. Um I feels like the Blackhawks pretty much said even at the end of last year, like if you want him, call us. We’ll figure it out. We’ve been talking over the last couple days about Lucas Reich. Vancouver is a team that came up yesterday and that’s where he ends up for a 2027 fourth round pick. Um look like the kid wanted him to succeed but he was given every opportunity. Last night he was given his final opportunity starting on the top line with Conor Bard and his last shift as a Blackhawk came with 18 minutes and 34 seconds left in the third period. That was his last shift. Jeff Lashel had seen enough decided to play 10 forwards instead of playing Lucas Reichel the rest of the game and that was it. Maybe this deal was in the works at that point so they shut him down. Um but kind of a out with a whimper goes Lucas Reichel. Yeah, I mean it’s a it’s it’s a tough it’s a tough road that that that he had in Chicago and being a a first round pick there’s a lot of expectation and once he got to to North America it was you know he was in Rockford he was point per game guy down there it just never fully clicked at the NHL level and and I think you know the opportunities he got you could say um he didn’t really get a great opportunity especially especially last season playing primarily with Pat Maroon and Craig Smith and being down on the fourth line and being asked to be, you know, more of a defensive guy, more of a two-way guy, more of a grindy guy, which it’s just not really his game. But it was an effort to try and add those elements to his game so that, you know, you saw the offensive potential that was there, but I think that’s that’s where it was left as potential. And I think as this season has gone on, uh, we saw the way that Jeff Blashel wants to play. We saw the guys he was given a lot of opportunity to, and we’ve seen the guys that have had a lot of success, and Riel really hasn’t been been that guy. He had the one three-point game. It was I think we all thought, oo, wow, that that could be something. And then just the momentum wasn’t capitalized upon. It wasn’t carried game over game. And I think Riel probably got to a point, it’s it it seems by reports that, you know, he was wanting a trade and the Blackhawks were trying to oblige it as best as they could. Uh and eventually now you get to this point where a former first round pick seven years later is going to turn into a fourth round pick. So, it’s disappointing from that standpoint. Um, it’s disappointing that he didn’t didn’t really reach that potential that I think a lot of people thought he could could have tapped into. Um, but I hope you he gets an opportunity in Vancouver and and can can grow because like you said, like he’s he’s a guy that you can you can root for and and and we did. I I think just the reality of what he is, at least at this point in his NHL career, um just wasn’t going to be someone who was going to contribute to the Blackhawks moving forward. And we talked about it last night, you know, with with the guys on their way, you know, the the prospects on their way to the system, unless he had a big corner to turn in his career, he was going to get uh edged out of the NHL picture. So, um he gets that opportunity elsewhere now. Uh here’s you you sort of mentioned that’s Pier Lebron just a minute ago tweeted. Riel had asked for a trade looking for a better fit elsewhere. Riel’s agent Elaine W says things were not contentious. He credits the Blackhawks GM Kyle Davidson for how things were handled. Says they had been discussing it for a while now. So yeah, Lucas Reicho indeed looking for a change of scenery. And look, it makes all the sense in the world. He’s trying to find a better fit. He’s reading the writing on the wall of I’m I didn’t start the season in the lineup. I’m not playing in the top six typically. Oliver Moore is on the way. Sasha B is on the way. You know, Roman cancer is on the way. Whoever they draft this year is potentially on the way. Mason West, Vakov, Neesil, go on and on and on. The names of forwards who are in the Hawks minds bigger parts of this organization’s future than Lucas Reichel. And he read the writing on the wall. Um, I hope it works out for him in Vancouver. That will I will have no I’m not rooting against the guy. And boy, some of the uh outpouring about this trade is a little bit surprising considering what Lucas has done. I saw someone say in the chat that this is the worst day they’ve had as a Blackhawks fan. I mean, is it Holly? It’s not Holly. I’m a little bit surprised by that. It was not Holly. I’m trying to find it here. It was Kendall S15 says, “This is downright the worst day in my hockey fandom. I think this hurts more than the Hegel or De Brinka trades for me. I don’t know why. I don’t know why either cuz Alex De Brinket and Brandon Hegel were much better players than Lucas Reichel and he there’s something about this kid uh that he has he has stolen the hearts of certain Hawks fans. I think he’s just very likable in his way. He’s kind of a goofy, silly, uh, you know, harmless guy that I think a lot of people glombed on to. But look, his job is to play hockey and he was not succeeding at his job. It’s tough, but it is what it is. Yeah. I I think there’s I think there was a lot of people who were fans of his because they were rooting for him to get to that next step in his career. Uh and it just didn’t work out. So, it is it is tough because you want those you want those guys. You get to you get to be around, you know, in a position that we’re in. You get to be around some of these players. You get to know their personality. You get to see their interactions with their teammates. and he was obviously a a very well-liked teammate around the room and, you know, he really did fit in with that group um that was, you know, coming through as the as the next wave uh of of of Blackhawks and, you know, he was lockers were right next to, you know, Doc and Nazar and Baddard and um you know, during the the preseason, Oliver Moore was there. It was like those guys were all kind of right there in that row. Uh, and they were, you know, you could tell it like they were really good friends and they’ve been in the same organization for a number of years now, so they’ve gotten to know each other. So, it’s it’s it’s tough to see that from a a teammate standpoint, but but yeah, I just it just the NHL career wasn’t going to to blossom here in Chicago anymore. Um, you know, I I I think I know someone in the chat said, “Is this the last of the Stan Bowman prospects that we’re unsure about?” Not really because you still got Ethan Delm Mastro, you still got Nolan Allen trying to figure out exactly what their futures are. But I think you probably at this point feel a little bit more you feel a little better about their NHL prospects than you did Riel at at at this stage of the game now. So um and I think this I don’t know if this was a Kyle Davidson has no loyalty to guy he didn’t draft it situation. I think it I think it’s just very clearly a a situation where the player wasn’t going to fit moving forward. So, yeah. Well, I mean, look, Lucas Reichel fits the profile of what Lucas of what Kyle Davidson’s looking for. He’s fast and he’s skilled and you know what I mean, but he just has not been able to when given the opportunity the NHL put it together for any sort of consistent amount of time. And we have said it time and time again, every time he, you know, air quotes finally gets the opportunity to play in the top six, he either oversleeps and misses a meeting and ruins that chance or play so poorly they have to scratch him for the third period basically last night. And that like that’s just not it just is what it is, man. Like when a player shows you who they are, at some point you have to believe him. And maybe he finds it in Vancouver. Maybe it’s just the perfect storm because, you know, everything is hunky dory in Vancouver at all times. So, it’s just going to be the perfect environment for him. But, it’s just it’s rough. And Holly is in the uh chat. And of course, the first person we thought of was Holly when Lucas Reichel was traded. She’s had a rough day. It’s been a rough day for Holly. Her flight gets canceled and then Lucas Reichel gets traded. Um, but don’t worry, Holly. We’re finding ice skates for you for your Rockford trip, so it’s not all bad. Yeah. Yeah. Kevin Korchinsky is still with the Blackhawks for now. Don’t do that to her. Oh god. Sorry. Sorry. No, it’ll be it’ll be interesting to see how he fits in Vancouver. That’s a team that’s looking for some offensive help. Anytime a team trades for somebody, they’re going to try to give him opportunities, try to create opportunities. They might try to shoehorn him into their top six and see how he fits. So, he’s going to get opportunity in Vancouver right off the bat. So, look, maybe just a change of scenery is is is what he needs. But, um, I was, look, I think it over the summer, like going into camp, it felt like a trade was imminent and we sort of said, “Okay, I know we know what we need to know.” Then he made it through, made it through the whole preseason, made it through eight games and got an opportunity. We were we were here for it, man. We were here for another chance for Lucas Reichel and it just didn’t it just didn’t pan out. So, I’m I’m happy that he is finding a new opportunity. And a couple people asking, “Does this mean Oliver Moore is coming back?” I don’t think so. We were talking about this the last couple days. Uh when Dickinson returns from injury, when Burkovsky’s back from paternity leave, if they kept Riel, they’d have 14 forwards. So, the way Blashel does it, you’d have to scratch three forwards. Somebody had to go. Um I saw some people talking about Sam Lafery. I don’t think this means that Sam Laf is going to get in a lineup because he hasn’t. Well, even with the injuries, I think they’re just making room for Burkovsky and Dickson who will probably play on Sunday. Yeah, that that makes the most sense. There’s there they weren’t in a situation where they had a hole in their roster now that they needed to to fill with another player. It’s they had they had a surplus of guys that were going to be in the NHL. And way and we knew this from the start of from the start of the season anyways with you know they were they were going in wouldn’t they didn’t they start the year with 13 I mean they had 13 forwards and then they brought up uh Green to make it 14. Um and you and then once you figured out okay they’re playing seven defenseman almost nightly that there’s just too many forwards. Um, so yeah, I think I think this was and we had those conversations like you said like what do you what do you do? Who do you put who do you do you put Laferty down through waiverss? Do you you know take a take a spot away from Ryan Green and and scratch him or send him back to Rockford or you know what do you do with Riel? And this is the situation that it that it came down to. you know, after seemingly a full year of of this back and forth of trying, you know, he’s available. What are you gonna get for him? All this stuff, um, fourth round pick is I that’s better than I I think I might have expected when this conversation came around of like, oh, Riel and this is what’s they’ve had some offers, but they’re not good enough. Um, having it being a fourth. Okay. I mean, that’s I’m I’m I’m fine with it. That’s almost not gonna say it’s nothing, but it’s better than nothing. And at least a fourth round pick you could probably say is, you know, if you want to flip it or use it in another deal in some way or shape or form, like that’s fine. It’s a it’s it’s a it’s an asset that the Blackhawks have that they can play with. Um, and if you look at it, I mean, he kind of, well, off the top of my head, this kind of looks like a Ilia McKay for Lucas Reichel in the long in the long run between Chicago and Vancouver. Like, sure, that’s a good swap. Yeah, that’s fine. Let’s Let’s think of it that way. Yeah, that that sounds great. Hey, man, we still have the end of the season three years ago when Lucas Reichel really looked great. We we’ll have that time forever to remember as Hawks fans. Um, hey, if you’re just joining us, if you’re checking us out for the first time, this is what we do here at CHDO Blackhawks. We’re on five times a week, unless news warrants. So get those at store.allcityetwork.com or when you become a diehard at allto.com. All right. Before we wrap things up, Mario, any final thoughts on Lucas Reichel? Um, yeah, like like we said, like he he is a a genuinely good person to to root for, and I I hope he does find success. We’re going to see him pretty quickly. Blackhawks play uh Vancouver first week in November, I think it is. So, he’ll be uh he he won’t be a stranger for for very long. So, um hopefully he gets a good opportunity. Like you said, Vancouver needed help. They just lost Philip Heedle to uh some time after taking that big hit again. So um that could be a chance that could be a chance for Riel to to step in and um get some minutes that he clearly wasn’t going to be getting here in in Chicago. So all the best to him and um hopefully he finds it. You want guys to succeed. Yep. Wednesday, November 5th at 900 p.m. Blackhawks at Kuck. So the Lucas Reich Revenge game, put it on your calendar. All right. Well, unless anything happens between now and uh Sunday, we’ll talk to you then. But we got a super chat we got to get to real quick here from Pow Pow.
