DeAndre Jordan on signing with Pelicans | Pelicans-Spurs Shootaround 10/24/25
How was that uh I mean you get signed in the morning, got a nice little session there with with Willie. How much are you trying to just What was that like trying to just trying to get all of these calls and everything in in in a short period of time? Yeah, I mean I’ve been in the league for a couple years. So, uh everybody everybody runs the same stuff. It’s just different terminology. So, just kind of trying to get acclimated with what you know our intentions are to do here on both sides of the basketball and um just trying to you know get acclimated. That’s all. Same simple stuff. How exciting is it to, you know, be able to play for your old teammate in in Willie and how how different how different is that going to be? It’s definitely different. Uh but it’s fun though. Will Coach Green has done an amazing job here and I’m excited to be able to um you know continue our relationship now. Obviously player coach, there’s definitely a um a hierarchy in that and I and I respect that uh more than anybody. But I I I know what he’s doing here and he’s a players coach. You’re able to talk to him any kind of way and um he sees it from our point of view. So I think that that’s a that’s that’s an amazing thing, too. What was he like as a teammate? He was a great guy. No, I mean Willie is uh super hard-nosed like you know he’s from Detroit, tough guy. Um and that’s that’s the way he played. He was a you know a team guy. He put himself out there. He was super selfless. whatever we needed from him uh each night and that’s uh I kind of see him coaching like that too and I like the way that the guys have been able to you know listen to what he says and and buy into it as well. What conversations have you had about your role here? Um I think we’re just taking it a day at a time. Um I know what my role has been over the past few years and I think that it’ll continue to be that way. Um I’m here to you know be a great locker room presence. Uh be a veteran leader. Um, and then when my numbers call, be ready to play and uh, and also like, you know, bring the young guys along because they have some talent and, um, you know, my job is to be able to give back as much as I can while also being ready to play. How has that been embracing that role over the last few years and going from, you know, being an NBA guy and an all-star to adjusting to being that that kind of that that veteran guy? Uh, my my egos died a long time ago. Yeah. So, I think um for me, I’m just I’m I’m grateful and I’m learning a new role and it’s been extremely beneficial for me and especially the past 3 years when I was in Denver and I I learned how to accept that and and find a way to still have an impact on the game uh even when you’re not playing. So, um that is that’s something that I’ve embraced and I feel like I’ve been okay at it. You mentioned you’ve been in the league for a little bit. I think this is this will be 18 year year. Um, how much does that help you in terms of like you’re kind of just getting thrown in and you have to be ready to to play? It’s just that’s that’s what it is. You got to be ready to play. It’s um just a part of the profession being ready at all times. It’s, you know, on us to be responsible and hold ourselves accountable to be ready to play. Um, this is the first time that I’ve actually done it this way and not being a part of a training camp or preseason. Um, but you know, that work continued to go on while that was going on. So, um, yeah, I’m I’m I’m ready for for whatever happens, and I’m excited to be a part of this team. What do you know about the team, the players here, and and kind of what they’re starting to put together with the new leadership? I I think that, you know, obviously Joe and Troy, they their resumes picked for themselves. Um, but the guys here, I’ve always been a fan of this team. I got a lot of friends who are from here, uh, who live here actually. And, um, you know, coming here has always been a tough battle, especially when they’re completely healthy. And I think that that has been a a big thing is guys being healthy throughout the course of the entire season. And um cuz when the entire team’s healthy, they’re they’re really tough to play against uh home and away. So I’m happy to be a part of that and uh especially once we get some other guys back from injury. Um I think our team will be even better. You’ve seen a lot in the league. Any advice on how to defend Wendy? We’ll see how it goes. I mean he’s I mean he’s extremely talented, man. It’s It’s I don’t think it’s a oneman job and I don’t think you’ll truly ever be able to stop a player like that. You just got to be able to contain him and make it as tough as possible for him.

Pels are picking up players I already like. I'll be watching from Tucson.
This man lowkey just exposed & sneak dissed Willie! “You can talk to him any kind of way” “he’s a great guy” those are not good compliments for being a coach! and arguably a player
37 years old. 6'11" 265 pounds. He got a ring with Denver and was a former one time All-Star, All-NBA first team, and 2 first team All-Defensive selections. 2 time rebounding leader and was part of the infamous Lob City. Is also third all time in dunks made in NBA history behind none other than Shaq and Dwight Howard.
Welcome matey! 🏀🇬🇧
Much needed added presence after watching that first game this team needs another voice to help guide these young studs because it’s a team game DeAndre Jordan has played just about every role besides perennial allstar he’s also played with a bunch of great player as well as head coach Willie Green. DJ come get them dudes together and let the know role players shine too when the team wins.
