Miami Heat RUMORS After Terry Rozier Arrest | Big Move Coming?

[Music] The NBA world was shocked when Tara Rosir was arrested Thursday morning by the FBI. How does this impact Miami? We reacted to the news on Thursday morning when it came in from Sham Shirana, but on today’s show, we’re going to look at what is possibly next in terms of what it means for the contract, the financial aspect of it. We did that very briefly and like glossed over the top. Today we’re going to go a little bit more in depth. It was quite the stunner on Thursday. Chanty Bilips also arrested. I had you updated first on Twitter before we made the video yesterday, which is why you need to follow me_rolloff. If you want to be the most up-to-date Miami Heat fam, that’s the place to be because we have the news there first and then we make the content here on the channel. Before we get into it, I did want to read everybody Terry Rosier’s statement via his lawyer that they put out Thursday morning. We have represented Rosier for over a year. A long time ago, we reached out to these prosecutors to tell them we should have an open line of communication. They characterized Terry as a subject, not a target. But at 6:00 a.m. this morning, they called to tell me FBI agents were trying to arrest him in a hotel in Orlando. It is unfortunate that instead of allowing him to self-surrender, they opted for a photo op. They wanted the misplaced glory of embarrassing a professional athlete with a perp walk. That tells you a lot about the motivations in this case. They appear to be taking the word of spec specillatory in credible sources rather than relying on actual evidence of wrongdoing. Terry was cleared by the NBA and these prosecutors revive that noncase. Terry is not a gambler, but he is not afraid of a fight and he looks forward to winning this fight. I wanted to share that quote because it is his side of the story. And I do find it interesting that the NBA did their own separate probe and then found him clear that like they already looked into the matter before the FBI did as Rosier’s lawyer said and they said, “All right, we’re good. No, no suspicious activity. But the FBI went more in depth with it along Mike Malik Beasley, Shanty Phillips, and found enough evidence to arrest him. And if you read some of these reports and stories coming out on Terry Rosier, all of this, by the way, happened when he was a member of the Hornets, not the Miami Heat. It kind of looks like he’s cooked. Man, this quote kind of tells it all. This was in the indictment from the FBI as well as a report from the Athletic saying that on March 23rd, 2023, Rosier, while playing for the Hornets, let others close to him know that he planned to leave early with an injury. Associates bet more than 200,000 on Rosier’s unders and winnings were delivered to Rosier’s home, the indictment alleges. And the indictment also alleges that they counted the money in cash in their house that night. So there’s a lot of potential evidence going against Terry Rosier in this case. And we will have to let this play out. We said that a couple months ago when it was reported that the investigation from the FBI remains ongoing. But if these arrest charges by the FBI ultimately stick, you have to imagine the NBA will be like, “All right, I guess we just didn’t see all the facts necessary in our probe a couple months ago or prior to the investigation and they will ultimately ban Terry Rosier like they did Jonte Porter from the NBA.” So, what does that mean for Miami? Well, let’s get into that part of it. Now, Brian has a excellent tweet. Go follow him. And he is someone who follows the cap extremely closely. He said that under section 12 of the NBA CBA, any player dismissed or disqualified for gambling is immediately banned for at least one year. That contract becomes null and void. No pay, no roster spot in no appeal. and then a reinstatement would requ uh require approval from both the NBA and NP NBA, which by the way would not happen. Um, but the point is this, Rosier’s contract can and will be voided if found guilty and the NBA subsides with the investigation from the FBI. I mean, a lot will happen with Rosir in terms of his life if he’s actually arrested and that sticks with the FBI. But if he is banned from the NBA, that money comes off the books for Miami. And it sucks to say it, but it’s a massive help to the Heat going forward. I mean, in the season opener on Wednesday night, Terry Rosir was one of two players not to play. The Heat had 12 healthy guys. The only two that didn’t appear in the game, Terry Rosier and Kashad Johnson. Miami currently has eight $186 million in cap. That is $1.7 million underneath the luxury tax. If Rosir’s contract is ultimately voided, they get that entire 26.6 million back starting the day that it gets voided by the NBA. So, their cap number will go all the way down to 159.4. And as I just mentioned, the luxury tech is 187.8 8 million, which means they go from about 1.7 and a change under the luxury tax to basically 28 29 million underneath the luxury tax. A massive boost in flexibility and financials for the Miami Heat. But predict it for me. Does Terry Rosier’s contract get voided by the NBA? aka they go along with the FBI and say, “Yeah, he’s banned. He you get that money.” Let me know your thoughts. With the money potentially coming back to Miami and them not having to pay Rosier that $26.6 million over this year, this allows a lot for the Heat. This then allows them, because they have so much space, to sign a free agent currently available using the $14.1 million mid-level exception. It also allows them to claim a player using that mid-level exception. Also, because of other financial things moving around, they had a $17 million trade exception available to them, but unable to use it because of where they were in the luxury tax. They would now be eligible to use that $17 million trade exception. What do I mean by that? And if you aren’t aware what trade exceptions means, let me dulge. It allows you to essentially buy a player, if you will, because you could use that $17 million exception and say, let’s go to the Knicks, for example. They have Mitchell Robinson on a one-year $13 million deal. If the Knicks wanted to trade Mitchell Robinson, the Heat could then just trade draft capital for the player and say, “We will be absorbing that contract into our trade exception.” and we don’t have to match salaries. So, anybody that’s $17 million or less in their AAV, the Heat could take them on without having to give up a player because you don’t have to match salaries with that trade exception. So, it allows Miami to be flexible in a trade. Now, I’ll say there’s not many trades out there that would make sense because if you’re Miami, what’s the point of using that trade exception for a player on an expiring contract? like it really doesn’t change anything unless you feel like that player can really positively impact your team. But I went through every team in the NBA and looked at contracts $17 million and under and if they would be available to acquire by just attaching draft capital because another important thing here with trade exceptions, you cannot combine trade exceptions. The three that he’d have three of them, a 17 mil, a three, and a two. You can’t combine them to make a $22 million exception. You also can’t combine the $17 million trade exception with a contract. I saw someone out there on Twitter say, “How about Wiggins Fonteio and that trade exception for LeBron’s 52.5?” Doesn’t work. Can’t combine trade exceptions with other players salary. So, it’ have to be just a trade exception and draft capital for a player that fits underneath that salary. So, there really isn’t that many options out there. But coming up here in a second, I’m going to take a look at five free agents Miami could sign if Rosier ultimately gets voided and banned from the NBA. But before we get into that, this episode is brought to you by Prize Fix. Daily fantasy sports made easy and fun. You and I make decisions every day. The right decisions can get you paid. Don’t miss any of the excitement where it’s good to be right. Prospects offer stacks, meaning you can pick the same player up to three times in the same lineup. Pick more on BAM three-pointers, points, assist. You could now have that all in the same lineup. You can also follow other prize picks players directly on the app. Copy their lineups, whether it’s a friend, celebrity partner, or just someone’s picks you like. I’ve got an entry in for football this upcoming weekend. More than Bejian Robinson rushing yards against the Dolphins. More than Jaylen Wadd receptions and less than to a tongue of Aloa longest completion 32 a.5. Download the prize picks app today and use code CLNS to get $50 in lineups after you play your first $5 lineup. That’s code CLNS to get $50 in lineups after you play your first $5 lineup prize picks. It’s good to be right. So, let’s look at the updated Heat roster here. And obviously, these points per games does not reflect what happened on opening night. We will get these numbers updated as the season progresses here. But this is the starting lineup Miami ruled with on the first game of the season on Wednesday. But let’s just say you removed Terry Rosier from the roster. You already waved Precious Sua before the season began. So, you only would then have 13 players on the roster, right? You have the five starters and eight on the bench. You can sign two players to standard deals up to 15. That’s the max. But you would have to sign one. Why do I say that? Well, the NBA rules and CBA and regulations force every NBA team to have 14 standard contracts. Now, since Miami would technically lose Rosier, they would be down to 13, meaning they would be legally required to sign a 14th guy. They do get about a two-eek period to be able to fill that. So, they could have two weeks of the season where they only have 13 guys on their standard contracts, but they would have to fill it eventually. So, what and who could Miami go out and get? Well, here are five free agents I would be interested in slash I could see Miami having interest in. One of them being Ben Simmons, the biggest name still available on the free agent market. H the curious case of Ben Simmons feels like the curious case of Benjamin Button where he has been unable to stay on the floor. Um he apparently like had offers come in from the Knicks but he just declined them and then he has oh I actually didn’t decline them. It was just weird. And I know Ben Simmons will get the clicks. He’ll get the name. I I just don’t think this is a player worth adding if you are the Miami Heat. I I I really don’t like when you think about what Miami would benefit in terms of adding another free agent, you think size, you think rebounding, and you think a little bit more shooting as well. Ben Simmons can’t shoot. I don’t think he fits on this roster because you really have the best version of Ben Simmons right now in Nicole Yoic. Someone who is 610, 611, rebounds, can playmake, and can shoot the three. I just don’t think the headache of Ben Simmons is worth it. So, I do not think signing Ben Simmons is something Miami should explore. But what about another former first round pick and first overall pick? Markeel Folultz, the guard formerly of the Orlando Magic, who I thought Miami should have signed last off season. They did not. He didn’t really get a lot of run, only 21 games, averaging 2.9 points per game, but he was pretty good for the Magic in the 2021 to 2023 kind of like span there. Really good defender, mid-range guy, and could playmake a little bit, but just phased out of the NBA due to his inability to consistently shoot the ball from beyond the arc. And if we’re going to be honest, the Heat should probably pass on Markeel Folultz as well because I still think Miami, if they’re going to add a player to this team, needs to think either shooting because they’re missing Duncan Robinson and Tyler Herro for the first three weeks of the year, Duncan for the entire year. And they need to look at size to potentially help on the glass. We saw how much they struggled to rebound the ball late in the game against the Magic on Wednesday night. So, I don’t think Markeel Folultz makes a lot of sense. I know he could just fill Rosir’s spot on the roster as a guard, but you have Drew Smith, you have Casper Yakonis returning soon, you have DaVon Mitchell, Norman Powell, and hero on the mend in the next three or four weeks. So, I don’t think you need a guard whatsoever. Which brings me to Trey Lyles, an intriguing forward center who has been a productive rotational piece in the NBA almost every year of his career, but is not in the NBA currently playing overseas for Real Madrid. He could return to Miami. The Heat would have to pay his buyout, but hey, we talked about how much cap space Miami has to work with if Rosier’s contract gets voided. So, it would not be an issue whatsoever. Lyles has spent the last handful of seasons in Sacramento before going to play in the overseas leagues with Real Madrid and I think he could provide some nice things. Is he an elite rebounder? No. But he can space the floor. He can play the four with Bam, with Yoic, with Wear. You could have Yoic and Lyles together. You could have Bam and Lyles. You could have Wear and Lyles. I think he would be a great addition. He reminds me a lot of Kevin Love in terms of his offensive fit where you could have him act as a passer, as a hub at the top of the key, but he’s more athletic than the last couple years we’ve had of Kevin Love. He’s a better defender, although he’s not a good defender. Anything’s better than Kevin Love. Yeah, Love was the better rebounder, but Lyles is a better offensive piece. So, I think Trey Lyles would be a really good addition. And I think if Miami ultimately gets the space in roster spot from Rosier being voided, Lyall should be the first call and they should be willing to pay the buyout because they have so much cap space available to them. Two more players to get to here, but what players should the Heat sign if Rosier is ultimately banned and voided from the NBA? Let me know your thoughts. Couple obvious ones to close. Precious Chua, I mean, the big man that spent the training camp and preeason in Miami on this roster, but was waved just last week. He’s the most logical option because the Heat needs size. They have familiarity with Aua because he was on the roster in the preseason this past September and early October, and he obviously played with Miami as a rookie in 2020. Now, he wasn’t that good in the preseason and only averaging five and five and shooting 41.2%. But what do I constantly say about Achua? He has a high motor. He’s been statistically one of the best offensive rebounders in the NBA, even coming off of the bench, and he knows what is required to be an effective player in an Eric Spolster team. The Heat need more size. A Chua is the more logical option over Trey Lyles. I still think I would rather have Lyles though. The final player we’re going to talk about here, a familiar face from a year ago as well, Alec Burks, the guardforward. And if you have been subscribed to the channel or just follow Barry Jackson in the Miami Herald, you would know that the He’d have interest in Alec Burks. talked about it a month ago when Barry Jackson had an article that they would be intrigued with bringing back Burks to the 305 if they had enough space in a roster spot. Burks was very solid last season for Miami. A true professional. Appeared in about 49 games, played 17 minutes a night when he was on the floor and played well. Like he shot 42.5% from three. And when he got some starts late in the year, he made him count. He was effective. Like I thought Alec Burks was really good last season. Some people might say, “We don’t need Burks. We need size.” I I will agree with you, but we’re one injury away from shooting being a desperate need. Like imagine if Norman Powell goes down for like three weeks with an injury. Well, now you have no shooting. Imagine if Hero gets reinjured. Like you already need more three-point shooting. I know Simone Fonteo looked really good in the opener, but I don’t think you could rely on him being that efficient on a night in nightight out basis. So, Burke, someone who we know can be a 43% three-point shooter, would be a very good depth option for Miami. And because he is such a professional and a great veteran, we can trust that he can be ready to play and step in and give you solid minutes on any given night throughout the course of an 82 game season. So, I know I might be lazy here, but I do think the most likely signing, say Miami gets the cap space, they get the roster spots available, they should sign two guys because they have the ability to sign two and it doesn’t affect them monetarily at all with all that new cap space. So, I would project if the Miami Heat get that space, they bring back a Chua, who they already said they would like to bring back in December when his cap hit is lowered and wouldn’t put them in the luxury tax. And I think there would bring back Alec Burks as well. It wouldn’t hurt to have that veteran presence in the locker room and shooting off the bench available to them either. So, if you’re asking me, say three days from now or sooner, Rosier banned from the NBA, contract voided just like Jonte Porter and the Heat have all that space. I think the most likely roster moves we’ll see Achua and Burks returning and then maybe they can get a little feisty at the trade deadline and make something happen with that trade exception or a different trade where they’re just able to take in more salary than sending out because they have all that space between where they’re currently at at 159 and the luxury tax threshold at 187.8. But if any move does occur, we will have you covered. So make sure you subscribe and join the channel. [Music]

  1. All Heat fans should be pissed! This man was purposely, intentionally being trash and Miami saw that and said "yeah, let's pay him 26 mil a year!" How are they evaluating talent over there? Smh they should be investigated as well smh

  2. I woke up out of my sleep for this one. I always believed that as long as Terry was on this roster we have no chance. This gives us all the chance in the world if his contract gets voided

  3. The fact this guy makes 26 mil a year, and he was doing ANY kind of gambling tells me this wasn't for the money..
He wasn't getting 'big bucks' after his cut of side bets. He made more dough from sponsorships. But man, what a way to screw up a dream job..

  4. Let me be real clear

    PORTER got suspended 3 montjeb
Before FBI arrested him . Then expelled
    FULL Cap relief !!!!!!💰💰💰💰💰
They suspended PORTER 1st then FBI

NBA has lost lost face and will quickly
Suspend Rozier and then ban him for life

I read full indictment with my lawyer .
He is done ..He is a LOSER

CBA Rule 12 & 35 must suspend now like they did with PORTER
    😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡😡

    FBI has 98 conviction rate
They don’t arrest unless is 98 percent solid !!!!!

  5. Call the Jazz and ask them what players you want us to sign for the trade experience along with what 2 players you want for

The BIG with Quicks in Lauri Mairkannen ❤🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆

  6. It was awesome to get Ben Simmons in the 305 he will be great and a former NBA rookie of the Year and NBA All Star and played in the playoffs with the 7 ears and first round pick and played with the Nets and the Los Angeles Clippers and it will get him in the 305 to win a frouth Nba championship and others will win the first time ever championship and Erik will win Three championships and Norman Powell and Andrew Wiggins will win the second championship and and a jersey retirement very soon to join popular superstars ever in the 305 and happy anniversary years and i love Miami Florida culture team's

  7. Sounds like the Hornets told Terry to fake the injury that game in order to hold him out the rest of the season so they could tank and get a better draft pick. They went 4-4 after they sidelined him.
Terry may have told his contact this info and the rest is history. NBA clearing him is also a cover up for the Hornets doing this.. Heat should sue the NBA and Hornets draft picks and monetary compensation asap

  8. Nah bro they knew about it before hand and let him play AND get traded!! and didn't say anything!?!? no way on earth Miami makes that trade with prior knowledge. I'ma need that pick back or we bout to have some beef bakin (bacon) and Im not talking about cheeseburgers
