🔴 LIVE : Los Angeles Dodgers vs New York Yankees |October WORLD SERIES 2025 | MLB THE SHOW 25 SIM

It’s the Los Angeles Dodgers going up against the New York Yankees. This crowd is ready as we get set for the World Series. Game one is next. alongside my partner Chris Singleton. I’m John Choppy. Thanks for joining us here. There may be no better atmosphere in all of baseball than game one of the Fall Classic. Singi, lots of excitement to get this thing started. Yeah, and the players feel that just as much as the fans. you’re down there with goosebumps and these players are just trying to stay in the moment. But I’ll tell you, for the home team especially, it’s so hard not to be emotional and hyped up with all the energy in this building right now. And on the other side, of course, you’re looking to swing homefield advantage your way with an allimportant opening win on the road. All right, we’ll be back to get this one started after this. So almost ready to get underway and towing the slab in this one. Number 31. It’s always interesting to see how he utilizes all of his pitches and how many of those he has a good feel for on that given day. when he’s right, he’s really able to keep hitters guessing and all of his stuff seems to be coming out of the same arm slot, the same tunnel. That can make life very difficult on his opponents. Ready to go now. Here’s Johotani. And that’s a little bit high. So, we’re off and running in game one. swings through that one for strike one. Cold night tonight, Boo. And that’s a pretty firm fast ball right there. I tell you what, memories of getting jammed, they creeping into my mind right now. That one missed. And now two and two. I wouldn’t throw him another breaking ball. Try to go again with a fast ball. Slightly elevated. He just having a hard time catching up. Spoils that one and it remains two and two. Swang and a miss. Struck him out. Now one away. It’s a strike out, but they’ll be in good shape if they make their outs as difficult as that one. Those grinding abs take a toll on a pitcher as the game goes on. Mookie Betts will make his way to the plate. Ripped right field. That’s back there. That one way back and it’s gone. A solo shot. It’s one- nothing. First pitch hacking and it paid off for him in a big way. That’s an impressive swing of the bat to go over the wall to the opposite field gap. And you know, there are a lot of guys that just don’t have the pop to do that. And probably just as many who don’t have the approach either. He let that ball travel and he got great extension on the follow through to drive it out of here. Will Smith to the plate. That’s a strike going on. Heart of the order coming through now. And with one home run already in this inning, they’re definitely looking to do some more damage. One out. Base is empty and a run in here in game one of the World Series. Next offering is in for a strike. I think it’s huge that they were able to score right away. You’re playing on the road. Stakes are high. Energy in the ballpark and you help to quiet that down a little bit. Bulby throws it to first in time and they get the out on Smith. Let’s check out the lineup. Here’s what they came up with for game one of the World Series. Sing. Yeah, they’re hoping they piece together a winner. Historically speaking, the team that wins this opening game more often than not goes on to win the World Series. Today is a day to come storming out of the gates. Two down, base is empty. Freddy Freeman up to the dish. And first offering is fouled off. Two outs. Base is empty towards first. He takes it himself to the bag and that’ll do it. Mookie bets brings the noise on this home run. It’s now one- nothing. This is the World Series on the show. Back now in the Bronx and on the hill in this one, Roki Sasaki. Chris, how about a scouting report? Well, they’re going with the opener in this one. So, this is an interesting look. He’s probably only going to pitch an inning, maybe two at the most. And it’s going to be unconventional. I think he’s going to pitch backwards. More off speed and fast balls later. And stepping in for the Yankees. Trent Gisham. And that clips the inside corner. Gisham first round pick of the Brewers in 2015. there. Now the one that one fouled off foul ball. It stays nothing and two and the pitch. That’s down and in. A slider missed. That’s a really good take right there. Slider down and in. Very difficult to get on the same plane and do anything with. Gets a piece and stays alive. fouls it off. Still one and two. Fouled off the plate. They’ll do it again. Pitcher having a pretty tough time getting that swing and miss. Third foul ball in a row. and down on strikes. He didn’t make it easy for him on the mound, but they still get the strike out. Well, that’s always the key to effective pitching is getting ahead in the count. And as a pitcher, it really allows you to start expanding the zone. Hitters become defensive and all of a sudden that plate starts to get really wide. And what happens is because of the pressure, you end up committing to a pitch as a batter before you recognize what it is. And that’s what leads to the strikeout. Aaron Judge at the plate. A sliding stop onto the pitcher. Nicely done for the hour. And time now to check out the New York Yankees lineup. Already trailing by a run in this one. They’ll be looking to get on the scoreboard early on as well. Well, it’s just the one run, so not too big a hill to climb. But yeah, if they can answer back in this inning or at least in the next couple, that’ll maybe settle everyone into this ball game. And that includes their own starter on the mount and first offering is fouled off just off the inside edge. The 1-1 is fouled off. Two down. Nobody on. Not close with that one. And the count is two and two. Upstairs. lays out, but he can’t squeeze it. The throw comes in too late and they catch a break as they get a base runner at first. Seems like he got exactly what he was looking for right there. That’s one of those you classify as just too hot to handle. Hit it on the screws and it couldn’t be fielded cleanly, but you can’t really blame the defense in that case. John Carlos Stanton to the plate now. And that’s in there for strike one. Move to first. Bellinger dives back. That one not close and the count even one and one. Two outs and that one is downstairs and a count two and one. Last couple of pitches breaking balls away. I think he’s going to have to come firm inside to be able to open up that location if he wants to go back there later in this count. In the air right field, Pah makes the play and that is that. The Yanks lead one. They’re down one- nothing. Game one of the World Series. And now it’s the switch in second baseman Tommy Edmond. That one inside. And that’s ball one. Boo. He never moved cuz he never had time to. With that kind of velocity, you’d prefer that pitcher work away. drilled out towards left center field. That’s well struck. And that should be extra bases around first and hustling for second. And he’s got a leadoff double. That is it. That was exactly what you’re looking to do with the pitch away, especially in that situation. Drive it into the opposite field gap. He got himself two bags on a great swing of the bat. And now Tay Oscar Hernandez just missed. The one strike one. Man, he was really tardy on that fast ball. Great job of setting him up by throwing the curve ball. Add some velocity to it on the next pitch. Can’t catch up. Man at second. That’s to third. McMahon sends it to first and Hernandez is out. That is seven. The third base number 13 Maxy at the dish that clips the zone. Strike one inside move to second. Dives back and he’s out. It’s so rare that the pitcher is able to be that quick and make an accurate throw to second base. It’s just not a normal thing for him to do, but does a really nice job there of getting it to that middle infielder and the tag being put on the runner. Nice pickoff right there. The next offering misses and that’s ball one. a little out front there as he swings through it. Clearly was sitting on a fast ball right there and just ended up out in front of the slider. Hey, you can’t fault him for his commitment. Now he’s just going to have to battle with two strikes up the middle over to Goldie. They get the out on my Dodgers go down quietly, but they’re on top one- nothing. And we’re back. Jazz Jun, so far the playoffs have not been kind to him, but tonight a chance to start a new. So much of this game is mental. He’s just got to tell himself, “I’m here. I’ve worked hard all year. Go out, have fun. Trust your ability.” You know, Singi, there are some people that say they feel more pressure in the League Championship Series than the World Series because they know this is it. I could totally see that because, you know, you get to the World Series, that’s what your whole goal was the entire season. Then you’re there, there can be some luck involved. So, you just got to shake it off, go out there, know that this is a rare opportunity, and just play your best. Nothing like postseason baseball. There’s a buzz in the air. Every pitch seems bigger. It’s truly special. Next pitch misses and the count’s even at two. There really is a different feel to the postseason. I only got five games of postseason action in my playing career, but I treasured each of them. Stays alive. man. Those are the types of hits where you don’t feel any vibration in your hands whatsoever. Such a good feeling. Just a solid swing right there. Caught it out front and ripped it into the outfield for the base hit. Those always feel great. And now they’ve got some speed on first. So we’ll see if they try to get him into motion. Paul Goldmid now and a first pitch fast ball is in for a strike. Pickoff throw. And that’s outside. Clyde Washington doing the umpiring behind the dish in this one. Sometimes considered a bit of a pitcher umpire singing. He likes the low ball which traditionally favors pitching, but you know, hitters today are pretty good at dropping their barrel down. So, we’ll see how it goes in this one. The one-1 hit on the ground might be two. Goes to second for one onto Freddy. Double play. They made that double play look so easy, but it was far from routine. That’s the one thing about big leaguers. They make tough plays look simple. And here’s the catcher, Austin Wells. And the first pitch misses for ball one. Two down to that clips the corner. Throughout history, the fast ball down has been the most successful pitch. guys can handle a little bit better these days, but they of course still prefer something built high. And that misses and it’s two and one. That one is upstairs. Fouled off left side. And that’s ball four. Tried another splitter but missed the spot. A great back and forth and that play out some really close pitches and somehow he found a way to keep the bat on his shoulder right there. I’ll tell you right now, I couldn’t have done it. Now a chance for Anthony Vulpi. Pitch misses there. One and0. two outs in the air out towards left center and that ends the inning. One left for the Yankees and it remains one- nothing. onto the third inning. Here’s Kik Hernandez number eight. Game one of the World Series here tonight and all he’s hoping is that the success that he’s had in the first couple of rounds continues. The great thing you’re here in the World Series now just try to have fun. The performance has been outstanding and why should it stop now? How do they cool them off? Well, they’re going to be extremely careful with them. I doubt he’s going to get much to hit today, but when he does, be careful because he can hit it a long way. Andy Pes steps to the plate for the Dodgers. That’s off the inside corner. Ball one. P goes 6’1, hitting ninth in today’s lineup. And he was born in Cuba. One out, base is empty. dives but it kicks off his glove. No throw and they come away without an out for the Dodgers. So the lineup flips over. Show Otani steps to the plate for the Dodgers. First offering and it just misses. Fast ball is outside. Well, he looks more focused at the plate and working the count after that first at bat strikeout. Next offering is in for a strike. Man at first, one away. Late swing fouled to the left and the sweeper is off the plate. swings through that one. It’s a strike out. And Chris, that’s a way to neutralize his speed by keeping him off base. And the defense breathes a side of relief because he puts pressure on everyone if he can put the ball in play. But that’s how you do it. Keep him off balance. Get him out of there and deal with the next guy. Now it’s Mookie Betts. He’s already homerred in this game. That one almost got him. Pah off of first with two away. Close but called a ball. And that’s ball two. Well, usually a high level of confidence when you’re facing a young pitcher out there on the mound in this situation ahead 20. He’s put himself in a really good spot. And Muki takes Will Smith hitting on deck circle. Two outs. There’s the strike. Next offering is fouled back. 3-2, two out, runner on first. Lot of movement in the infield. Hitters got to stay focused on the pitch. Turns and fires to bats. Swings and misses at the breaking ball in the dirt. That completes the strikeout. Inning over. One left for LA, but they hold a one- nothing lead. Back at Yankee Stadium set for the bottom of the third, leading off Ryan McMahon. McMahon Sasaki back to work. Fouled off. He was late. That’s off the mark. And it’s one and one. Yeah, there’s a ball. Swings and misses on the fast ball up in the zone for the strike out. Up next for the Yankees. Now here’s Trent Christian. He struck out swinging at his first step in Right through there for a strike. Next offering upstairs. Fights it off. You’ll see another That one missed. Next pitch is outside. bows that off to the left and will do it again. Good battle here. About to be the eighth pitch of the at strike three and that’s two in a row. Frustrating end to the at bat for the hitter and I’m sure that’s going to sit on for a little while. You want to be ready to hit the fast ball. Sometimes you can overthink things and I think that was the case right there. It’s Aaron Judge now 0 for one so far. He’s a guy who does it all with the lack of contact in today’s game. This guy hits for contact so he delivers average but there’s on base and slugging too. And Judge takes the strike early in the count. You have to be real careful because of that power. But then if this hitter gets a strike or two on him, he’s still very comfortable. And because he has the ability to get the barrel to the baseball, he’s a threat deep into the count as well. Two down on hard hit right side. Freeman takes it himself and the Yanks go quietly. Down in order go the Yankees. They trail here one- nothing. back for more from the Bronx. And up to the plate is Will Smith. Taking it high in the draft. He’s had that top prospect labeled over him since he put on a professional uniform. But at some point that starts to go away and you’ve got to produce at the big league level. And the first offering a fast ball for a strike and that’s downed away. Foul off down the right side. lined into left center and that should be extra bases. Now he’ll turn for second and he’s got a leadoff double in the fourth. Couldn’t have timed it up any better than that. A lot of hitters tell themselves line drive over the infielder’s head. That’s what I’m trying to do. Just keep that approach simple. And right there it was perfectly executed on time with everything and pulled it into the gap nicely. Here is Freddy Freeman 0 for one. grounded out to first his last time. Fast ball in for a strike and it’s over long. Dives and it can’t hang on. Flip to the pitcher is in time and they get it out on the play. This is what it’s all about on that right side of the diamond where you’ve got the first base involved in the pitcher as well. First base does a great job. Knocks the ball down, gets away from a little bit. Doesn’t panic. The pitcher’s exactly where he’s supposed to be. Nice feed and a nice play for the out. Tommy Edmond at the plate. Doubled in his first AB. And that’s off the inside edge. And that is ball one. One away with a runner at third here in game one of the World Series. This one in the dirt. No advance. Good job behind the dish. That one’s spoiled. And the count now two and one. Fall off. Foul. bows it back with two strikes. That’s a base hit. Run scores. Wasting no time. He’s two for two now on the night and just a triple and home run away from the cycle. Seriously, we’re starting with this already. One down and at the plate for the Dodgers. Tecar Hernandez. He’s 0 for one. Runner on the go. That’s in for a strike. Throw to second. Tag and they got him. Two down, nobody on. Top half of inning number four. The one-1 is fouled off. This one high in the air to left center. Gisham sizing this one up. makes the play and it’s out number three. But the RBI single pushes across a run and it’s two zip Dodgers. You’re watching the World Series on the show. Bottom of the inning and now Cody Bellinger as a batter. He’s known for performing better in these night games. He might start two for two in this one. They had a foul ball. Swanging a ball. Grilled center field. Hernandez sizes this one up and puts the squeeze on that one. And there’s one away. Now back to Now here’s John Carlo Stanton fly to right his first time. That’s way outside and it’s one and0. Fast ball is outside. He hasn’t wanted to challenge him. Both of those pitches off the plate away. Don’t expect anything down the heart of the plate. You may just have to be patient and take your walk here. One down. Base is empty. Check swing and he went. And that strike one. just missed. And there’s ball four. Maybe a little loss of focus on the mound right there. gifted in first base with the quick free pass. Jazz Chisum Jr. stepping in now for the Yankees. One for one with a single so far. And there’s a foul ball. drilled in the air. High and deep right field out of here. That’s worth the price of admission. And we’re level. It’s 22. That one just sounded different. And it might have been the loudest moment yet. Man, my ears are ringing. I can feel that swing from the boot. Well, I’m not really sure how he kept that fair when you’re out in front on a breaking ball like that. Such a good chance that it’s going to hook foul, but not this time. He kept the hands moving forward just long enough to sneak it inside that foul. So, it’s all tied up thanks to the home run. Now it’s Goldmith up to the plate and that’s outside. Ground ball up the middle. Bats up with it on the run. Sends it over to first. Oh, can’t pick it up cleanly. Well, from the time you’re a little leager, you’re taught to hustle out the box and give a full sprint through the base regardless of how you hit it. And he didn’t make great contact, but the effort was there and he earns the base hit. Another batter now, Austin Wells. Oh, right to the back stop. Goldie into scoring position on the wild pitch. And there goes the double play possibility. Can’t imagine he’s too happy with that one on the mound. Just one pitch after giving up the single, he basically turns it into a double. Liner caught at second. Well, baseball can be cool, can’t it? I mean, sometimes it gives, sometimes it takes away. He did everything right on that swing, but he’s got nothing to show for it. So, the go-ahead run in scoring position. Anthony Vulpi stepping in now for the Yankees. Fly to left his first time. The shorts stop takes the ball. Goldie at second with two down. That’s out to center field. Hernandez settles underneath it. That is the inning. Another look at the long ball for the Yankees. Two-2 game. Game one of the World Series. Here comes Max Mudsy. Maxy. Well, after scoring runs, this is where you’re looking for that shutdown inning. Get that hot team back in there to swing the bats. Swinging a miss. Two and one now. And that’s downstairs and outside. He hasn’t fallen behind in the count like this all day. He’s in danger of walking his first batter right here. Fouls one away. And now three and two. And down low on strikes he goes. But he’s notched four strikeouts now. That was a really nice pitch call for that putaway slider right there. You look at the sequence in that at bat and he hadn’t thrown it yet. So this makes it really tough to recognize and fight off of two strikes. I’m sure it looked like a fast ball all the way until it wasn’t. Here’s Kik Hernandez. He’s 0 for one. out towards right center. That’s well struck. That’s back and it’s off the wall. And that’s a double. He was all over that one. I love the approach he had right there with that pitch. Not trying to do too much, but still looking to drive it. And that’s exactly what he’s able to do into the opposite field gap for the double. A chance now to take the lead. And at this point in the game, that could be a deciding run. So digging in, Andy Pahes reached on an infield single his first time. Check swing called strike. That’s strike one. Got some good opposite field power. What I like about something being hit to the right side into the outfield is that the base runner at second has a very good read and can determine whether or not he can score on that base hit. Liner snagged at first. Throw to second and they got him. Double play. Halfway through and we’re tied two a piece. Back in the Bronx. John Shami with my buddy Chris Singleton. Set to get us started. Bottom five. Ryan McMahon. headed towards the corner. Hernandez hustling after it. Tries to make the play, but it’s fouled. Swinging a foul back. That’s out of play. He’ll upstairs. Ball one. That one misses. Full countdown now. Foul ball left side. He’ll see another fouled off again and it remains three and two. Fouled off and they’ll do it again. Five foul balls in this at bat so far and these two are going headto head. You can see the crowd. They’re starting to get into it a little bit more and more each pitch, even though there hasn’t been a ball in play yet. Strike three. It’s a strike out for Roki. Boo. If you can set up a good two strike splitter with the fast ball on the previous pitch, it’s going to be so tough to recognize and adjust your swing to get a piece of it. Clearly had him reaching for it right there. Back to the top of the lineup now. It’s Trent Gisham to the plate who’s 0 for two with a pair of strikeouts. Swinging a foul out of play. Base is empty, one away. Last half of inning number five. Comes up empty. That’s strike two. Movement in the bullpen. Number 86 appears to be getting ready and I’m sure he’s feeling some nerves. This would be his major league debut. Number 80 also throwing. One down. Base is empty and it’s fouled off. They’ll do it again. Pitch in the dirt. It’s a ball in two strikes. Still just the second batter of the inning. And on the mound, he’s already thrown 13 pitches. They got him working hard out there. Inside two and two. Spoils a two- strike pitch. And he’ll see another two down. And there’s a ball. That one ripped left field and it’s gone. home run and they grab the lead. It’s 3-2. He kept swinging and it paid off. That was a battle again. He just kept taking his cuts. Finally squared one up. That’s the exact definition of hitting the ball where it’s pitched. Taking that outside fast ball and driving it the opposite way out of the ballpark. You want to bottle that type of approach. And I think Dave Roberts is coming out of the dugout. Roki Sasaki departs at a decent effort considering he’s normally reliever. Back with the new pitcher in a minute. Number 80 takes over on the mound. pretty tight game. So, they’re looking for quality pitches out of him right here. Got to do his best to keep the score right where it is. So, one out, nobody on. Here comes Aaron Judge. He’s grounded out a couple of times. First pitch misses. Singing four homers in 22 games at Old Yankee Stadium. What do you remember? Well, I remember my rookie year hitting two in one game. And you know, before that game in the clubhouse, there was a gentleman there who owned a suit company there in downtown Manhattan. And he said to me, “Hey kid, you hit a home run in the game tonight. Come over to the store tomorrow and I’ll give you a free suit. Foul ball.” So I went into the game, I happened to hit two. when I walked into the store the next day and he looked at me said, “You’re trying to put me out of business, aren’t you?” And that was a great great experience that I had as a rookie playing against the Yankees, playing in New York. Oh, you know, it’s going to be very frustrating for this guy. He knows the strike zone extremely well. And you know what? Good hitters are not going to compromise. He’ll take that punch out, but ultimately stick with his plan and have more success than anything else. Here’s Cody Bellinger, one for two. Swinging a foul straight back. So, did Super Joe give you two suits? Super Joe hooked me up with two suits. Just missed. Outside low and a count to Lenoir. Foul ball there. Two outs and a foul ball. He stays alive. Flew open a little bit with that front shoulder, but was able to slow his back down just enough to make contact with that pitch. Keep the bat alive. That one the other way and it goes just foul. Two down on and that’s off the outside edge and the count’s full. Wow, this guy’s really battling up there as if his run is the game-winning run. I love his tenacity. The right-hander gives up the two out walk. It wasn’t easy, but he earned that walk after a long battle. Well, that’s a nice job of grinding out that bat a lot of pitches and ends up drawing. Very gritty. And now it’s John Carlos Stanton down and away for ball one. Bellinger the runner at first with two gone. That one ripped. That’s back there. And that ball is out of here. That one felt good. It’s their second home run of the inning and they add to the lead. It’s 5-2. That’s their third home run of the game. They’re having a lot of fun at the plate in this one. They’ve got the long ball working for them on autopilot. Power versus power right there. Like two locomotives colliding. Who’s going to win? And a really good job there by the hitter getting the top hand working. How is that fast out of here? Two outs, space is empty. Next to hit, Jazz Chisum Jr. check swing went around and that is strike one. Ball one there. on the ground to the left and that’s just foul. Yankees up by three. Swings and misses the high heat. Too much on that one. But two round trippers in this inning. The long ball was working. It’s 52 back in New York. Show Otani up to the dish. He’s not going to get cheated up there. No, he’s not. He’s looking to do damage with every swing he takes. Swing at a highf fly ball. Well struck way back. gone. That’s his fourth home run of the series and they cut into the lead. It’s 53. He only needed one swing to square it up. Not wasting any time and that is bat boo. Aggressive and it paid off. Most times it’s the pitcher looking at the scoreboard for velocity, but in this case it’s the hitter. He just turned around triple digits at the dish. I don’t even know how he saw that pitch. Maybe he didn’t, but he got a home run out of it. Here’s Mookie Betts. He’s already homerred here in this one. Highfly ball and that one curling foul down the right side. There’s a good feel in the ballpark and that’s what you expect when the home side has the lead in game one. This energy is going to keep building with every out. The short stop takes the ball with the big bats coming up and a home run already surrendered. He’s really going to have to execute against these next couple of batters. and a swing and a miss. He picks up his fifth strike out on the hill. The batter now will be Will Smith. Will, he might just be the best hitting catcher in the game today. Well, Boo, he’s so valuable. does a good job behind the plate, but offensively he’s a middle of the order type of bat, especially when you talk about catchers and their number one job is to handle the pitching staff and prevent runs. This guy is able to add runs by producing them. Swang in a line drive, base hit out into center field. So, they get a man aboard with a one out single. Hitting is really easy for some guys. There’s one thing that I can see already. His bat stays in the zone on plane for an extended period of time. And guys like that, they have a high contact rate and they have more barrels because of that bat being on plane. And even when you don’t get it great, it’s still hit hard enough to dunk something in like that in front of the center fielder. First one to Freeman is in for a strike. Freeman goes 6′ 5 in, 220 lbs, and he was a second round pick back in 2007. And that’s in the dirt. Movement in the Yankees pen. Devin Williams getting loose out there for Aaron Boon. Doval also getting ready with the tying run at the plate here in game one of the World Series. And a sweeper misses for a ball. That one misses. And that’s ball three. First pitch strike from the pitcher, but then no panic at all by the hitter. Very patient, showing good discipline. Now he’s in the driver’s seat with a 3-1 count. Hit in the air. Center field. Gisham should have this one. Brings it in. Two down. Up next for the Dodgers, the second base, Tommy Edmond. Here’s a switch hitter, Tommy Edmond. the other way. McMahon and that’ll do it. One scores in the inning coming on this solo home run. It’s now 53. Back at Yankee Stadium, ready to go for the last half of the inning. Goldie steps into the box. Goldmith. He’s been known to jump all over the first pitch. So, that seems like a missed opportunity right there. All impressed that he went right after him on that first pitch. That’s the key. Try to get ahead in the count and you can play around a little bit more as the at bat expands. Swings and misses. That’s strike two. Ground ball up the middle. That’s a base hit. Man aboard on the leadoff single. Still able to come through behind in the counter right there. He got that front foot down and pitch recognition was on point. Pretty impressive for an 02 count. So up next, Austin Wells. Check swing. Did he go? Yes, he did. Yan misses just off the outside edge. I think that was a strike. Nobody out. runner first and a foul ball. Cuts and misses. It’s a strike out. He had him out in front, which isn’t easy to do against a like this known for using the entire field. Just couldn’t sit back long enough on that one. And now Anthony Vulpi 0 for two in this one. And that one clips the corner. this one in the air. Muny makes the grab. Yeah, there’s two away. Got the pitch that he wanted just a little bit quick. Front shoulder open. backside collapsed a little bit and the launch angle not where he needed it to be. Brian McMahon steps to the plate. That one finds the zone. Strike one. And it’s foul away. Two outs. Way inside. And that one hammered. That’s back. onto the track and he makes the catch. No runs, one hit, no errors, and a man left. Onto the seventh here in game one. It’s the Yankees five and the Dodgers three. Now picking. Welcome back. We’re in the seventh. We have a new pitcher on the mound, Devin Williams. And the offense needs to be ready with this ball. It’s not a pitch you see very often, so it’s tough to pick up. And it’s a good one. Here’s Tasks Hernandez. There’s a strike. Well, with both starters out of the game, this quickly becomes a bullpin game. And this is something we see more and more in the game today, especially in the postseason. That one missed. Cut on and lifted in the air. Chisum makes the grab. One down. That’s a really nice play. Ranging back into the outfield for that catch. We all know those can be a little tricky, especially if the wind’s swirling around out there. Here comes Max Muny. Swinging a foul straight back. One down. Base is empty. Hit in the air. Right field. Judge getting an angle on it. No trouble here. puts it away for the out. Out number two. Lefties can definitely be a little pole happy up there, especially with pitches that they see pretty well. That was a good example. He hooked an outside pitch, hit that ball in the air to right, just not with much authority. Hernandez in the box for the third time today as he takes that one off the plate. That misses the zone and the count is two and0. Two down, nobody on here in the late stages of game one. And a big swing and a miss. Here’s a two-1. swinging a liner foul off to the right. Two down, nobody on. Ring him up, says Clyde Washington. That’s a strike out. No runs, no hits, no errors. Midway in inning number seven and it’s time to stretch. It’s the Yankees five and the Dodgers three. We’re back in a new pitcher here to start the bottom of the seventh. number 86. And they felt it was time to bring on a left-handed reliever from the pin with the lefty coming up. I think it’s a good move. I know. I never like when opposing team did that to me. Gisham in the box here. Lets that one go for a ball. Close one. doesn’t get the call. Two balls, no strikes. Evidently not too impressed with that call and it feels like he got squeezed on the outside corner. So, he’s making his case. You got to be careful to pick your spots in terms of showing your frustration with the umpire and he felt this was his time and that misses three and so definitely a little wild right out of the gate. Well, it could be a little tough coming from the bullpen mound to this mound, but you’ve got to find a way to get ahead and count quickly. He hasn’t. We’ll see how this at bat turns out. That one misses. So a lead off walk. I don’t think he really wanted to pitch to him right there. Anyhow, no rightielder. And next for New York, Aaron Judge. and ball one. Meanwhile, activity in the bullpen. Alex Via looks to be getting ready for manager Dave Roberts. Judge comes up empty there. It might be time to choke up a little bit. Get that front foot down early. Maybe even just spread out. He’s really late right now. Gisham gets his lead at first with nobody out. Oh, great stop. Throws from his knees. There’s one on first. Double play. Well, one thing you expect from your man on the hot corner is a strong arm on display right there as he makes the diving stop. throwing from the knees to start a double play. Wow. And here comes Bellinger. First pitch doesn’t find the zone. two outs. That missed by a lot and it’s two and one. There’s the swing and a miss. Well, when those hitters count sometimes can be a little too aggressive and a good pitcher will play off of that. He’s got to get a better pitch to hit. That’s down and in. Really good take, especially with two strikes. He swings and crushes one deep on its way way back there. It’s a belly ball. He sends it out of here. His second home run of the series and they add to their lead. It’s 6-3. That’s their fourth home run of the game. They can’t stop and they won’t stop hitting home runs in this one. Boo. They’re clearly feeding off of each other at the dip. A good hitter gets pitch recognition early. He saw exactly where that was going to be. The challenge not get over anxious and come out of your swing. He stayed on it and got all of it. Two outs, nobody on. John Carlos Stanton stepping in now for the Yankees and first offering is fouled off. And there’s a ball and it skips in the dirt. Two down, base is empty, but one run across here. The bottom of the seventh and a strike on the outside edge. That’s foul off to the right side. Keeps the AB going. Swings and misses. And that is the third out of the inning. The Yanks do get one on the solo homer. And they’ve doubled up. Now it’s 63. And welcome back to the ballpark. Ready to begin the eighth. Now it’s the right fielder Andy Pahes. Williams back to work. And that one fouled off. And that drops in for a strike. Doublebarreled action in the bullpen. David Bettnar getting loose out there for Aaron Boon. Doval getting loose as well. Check swing of the O2. Appeal to first. No swing. Earl Hendrickx with the call. Good job to fight that one off. taps softly to the right side and foul ball and that’s a base hit and a good start to the inning. Well, they found himself behind in the count right there, but he didn’t give in. 112 miles per hour. The ball seemed to explode off the bat right there. He put everything together on that swing. So that’s one of those knocks that feels a little extra sweet. And next for LA Show Oti and the first pitch misses for ball one. Well, the late off man gets on. You want to minimize the threat by playing sound defense. Hopefully the pitcher can get a ball on the ground and they can roll him up for two. The Yanks leading by three here in game one of the World Series. That’s towards center. Gisham is there. Makes the catch. Now that the stop Mickey and here comes the Yankees manager to the mound. Pitching change coming. Devin Williams is done. It’s a three-run game, and we’ll be back to tell you about the new arm in a minute. Now pitching out of the bullpen for the Yankees, Camo DV5. below. No ball. Here’s Mookie to hit. Sing. You talk about a guy that has all the skills. The range is really good, but the arm just stands out and he makes all the plays. And because of that big power arm, he’s able to play a little bit deeper, make throws from the outfield grass all the way across the diamond and still get a pretty good runner. That’s impressive. And now the count is even on the ground right side and it goes just foul. keeps the advant going with a foul ball. The Dodgers trailing by three and we’re in the top of the eighth. Goes down swinging for the strike out. Goes to second. Save. And he’s into scoring position with two away on a wild pitch. the catcher. Will Smith now at the plate. He’s been such a good hitter with runners in scoring position. Some guys just take it to another level. For him right now at the plate, it’s like everyone else is in slow motion and he’s in full speed. Just off the outside edge. There. That’s ball one. Right through there for a strike. Ruther at second. Two down. Strike two. hit on the ground to the right side. He takes it himself to the bag and that’ll do it. So, the Dodgers leave one and can’t cut into that 6-3 deficit. Now, pitching back now. New pitcher on the mound as we roll into the bottom of the eighth, Alex Via. Just trying to keep this one close here. And this is where a bullpin can give their players a chance to fight back into the game. So digging in Chisum Junior, the second baseman, Jazz Chisum Junior. And that one fouled off. going to count one and two. O2 fast ball way out of the zone. I think he’s trying to speed him up. Got to stay back. Off speed’s probably coming. twins and misses. It’s a strike out. Slider got him for strike three. And Paul Goldman will come up to hit. And that drops in for a strike. Activity in the bullpen for the Dodgers. Anthony Ba looks to be getting ready for manager Dave Roberts. Base is empty, one away here. The bottom half of the eighth inning. Liner base hit. Wow. So important to get into the fielding position as you deliver that base. That is a scary one. Watch your lips. Here’s the Yankees catcher now. Austin Wells. That one is absolutely Belgian. That’s going back. Back some more. And it’s gone. That’ll fire up the dugout and they add a pair. It’s 83. That’s their fifth homer of the game. Man, they’re all getting into the action. It’s starting to feel like a home run derby up here. When you’re working with this kind of velocity, so critical that you move the ball around, work quickly, and make sure that you keep that hitter off balance. Clearly not fooled by the location or the velocity. He was all over that fast. Now at the plate, Anthony Vulpi. Fast for a strike. Oh, one down. Swings through that one out in front that time. Liner to second and picked on the hop over to first. It’s there and that’s a great play. Up next for the Yankees, the third baseman, Ryan. Two down, base is empty. Here’s Ryan McMahon now. 0 for three in this one. Swing and a miss. Strike one. Wow. No fair right there. I mean, that slider didn’t move till the very last moment. Incredibly difficult to pick that up. Just going to have to tip your cap on that pick. Headed towards the corner and he can’t quite get there. It’s a foul ball. Next offering way off the plate. Swings through that and it’s a strike out. And that is that. But two come across to score in the inning courtesy of this two-run homer. Last chance coming up here for the Dodgers. Back now in the Bronx. And here’s the first baseman, Freddy Freeman. Doval measures 6’2 in, 27 years old, and he was born in the Dominican Republic. activity in the bullpen. Luis Heel getting loose out there for Aaron Boon. Warren warming up as well. Swing and a miss. struck him out and a strike out for the first out here in the ninth. You know, Br, you often think of sliders more for that horizontal movement, but most of the good ones have both vertical depth and that horizontal movement. And that’s what we saw right there. Good drop on the break and got
