  1. I mean, wasn’t JB the highest paid NBA player briefly? Part of that was gambling money.

I rarely gamble, its is just amongst friends or maybe a casino every once in awhile.

But damn, didn’t we all know this was going to happened? So much, money at stake in the marketing, in the gambling, etc. This is just a natural consequence of legalizing sports gambling.

  2. I agree with what he is saying. Unfortunately it will fall on deaf ears when people realize how much he makes.

  3. All just a distraction from the rampant insider trading that goes on in DC unfortunately

  4. So players benefit from the league growing and the flood of advertising money gambling sites spends on the NBA, and potential increased viewership from the gambler centric audience (although the league hasn’t actually seen this increase in viewership since legalization of sports betting).

What the players don’t get is a cut of the profits from actual bets people are placing…. But neither does the league. Thats the casino’s business.
So I think he’s being a little disingenuous with these comments.

But thats an independent point from whether or not the gambling is “good” for the league/players

  5. I understand his perspective but there’s really no way for players to profit share on gambling without making all results look like they were playing for favorable betting outcomes. And players also being allowed to get individual sponsorship deals from gambling companies is very much toeing the line as is

  6. Phones are already destructive and addictive. Gambling also destructive and addictive. The combining of the two is predatory. Should’ve only opened physical location sportsbooks.

  7. The vitriol spewed at and about sports professionals online if they somehow “mess up” some shmo’s parlay or fantasy score is ridiculous.

  8. The people shouting about their props and parlays at games should be tossed. There may be slight overlap of people just wanting their team to score and opponents to miss but it’s usually pretty obvious

  9. It’s the gambling advertising revenue that’s fueling the league revenue streams, fueling sports programming, which in turn through league media and marketing deals fueled by the outrageous salaries. Tis all connected and it’s bad.

  10. He’s right about the harassment but I do think they get part of the money, just not directly

  11. Man Im sorry I know this will rankle some of you, but Brown is putting his foot in his mouth on this one. The rise of sports betting is a direct contributor to the $300M contract that’s given Brown unfathomable, generational wealth. ‘Players not benefiting from the profit’ what a load of shit lol.

When this all went down the American Gaming Association did a paper that projected the NBA will ultimately earn up to about $585M annually ($160M directly, $425M indirectly).

Partnerships, sponsorships, and advertising deals count as basketball revenue. Players get 50% of that revenue. The NBA is currently partnered with 17 different gambling operators. In the 23-24 season the NBA was expected to earn about $160M directly from casinos and betting partnerships, so the projection by the AMA wasn’t far off. I’d guess the revenue they’ve received indirectly is around that $425M figure too.

Like dude just condemn what’s happening, move on, and collect your paycheck. You can’t play the underdog when you’re the 1% of the 1%.

  12. Sixers fan. Respect this dude. It was cool seeing him chop it up w/Jalen Hurts shortly after the Super Bowl.

  13. Gambling’s a net negative for pretty much everyone. It just makes rich betting companies richer while screwing over people who can’t really afford to lose. It’s like the lottery feeds on desperation. The system’s built to hook you too: random rewards, almost won moments, dopamine hits, all that crap. They pretend to make money off fun, while they make money off addiction and loss. Whole thing’s rotten.

  14. I’m no fan of sports gambling and its integration into all aspects of sports coverage but wtf is Jaylen talking about.

  15. “we dont benefit from any of the profits”
SGA just signed a 4 year $285M contract (71.85 AAV) , while just two years ago JB signed a 5 year $285M contract (57 AAV)

So in 2 years the top players in the league are getting 15 million dollar raises… a year

yeah im gonna go with, players are 100% seeing plenty of benefits from the profits.

Oh and in two years Luka is eligible for a 5 year $417M+ contract from the lakers. AAV of 83.4, but possibly could be $430-450M AAVs of $86-$90M a year.

  16. The root of the problem is the legalization of gambling. Did people not foreshadow that allowing this corruption into society wouldn’t breed anything other than the pollution of the integrity of professional sports?
