Aaron Dier was just talking about how he felt for you. He wished that you guys could have gotten this win for the performance that you had when you were going the way that you were going. What did it feel like for you out there? Um, felt good. Felt in the flow of things. Uh, thought we had the game under control. It’s tough that we didn’t get a win. Did you know when did you know that you were going to have a night like this? Uh that’s just years years and years of work um culminating um maybe the first two they’re just going. I don’t know what to tell you. What do you feel you guys could have done differently? Uh I think we probably I mean obviously get more stops down the stretch. Uh I think uh our clutch defense will start picking up the more we’re uh together. we kind of have that that camaraderie and start, you know, just understanding what we’re trying to uh trying to do on the defensive end. When you have a game like this, what was everything just just working for you, you know, taking shots and he was going to fall that feeling, you know, what’s the question? Did you just get that feeling knowing like every time you took a shot it was going to go up? Yeah, I mean that’s how I feel when I shoot the ball. Um missed a couple of my turnarounds. Um, so got to work on those. You mentioned the years and years of work. Uh, obviously the physical work, we see it and everybody’s out there taking shots. So, was there any sort of mental shift in in your approach to shooting over the last couple seasons that that’s led to this big jump in in percentage? Uh, just speeding up the shot um was a big big factor in it. Uh, balance. Um, and then a lot of work in the offseason. Um, yeah, but I mean I’ve been doing this since I was 18, you know, so I’ve had some reps. But a lot of people think that, you know, people can come to the league and oh, we’ll teach them how to shoot and and it doesn’t end up working. So for you to make a a jump this late in your career, not this late, but you know, on the later side of your career, uh, seems a little unique. Yeah, I mean, shoot 15 minutes before practice, you shoot 15 minutes after practice, and then you have like uh like the resolve to shoot it in the game and work on what you practice over and over and over and not worry about the misses and shoot the right ones and you’re inevitably going to get better from standoint. What are the range of emotions like knowing that you were unbelievable at a career night and you guys just couldn’t close it? Yeah, it sucks. Sucks. Um like they’re asking if I wanted a game ball and no, I don’t want I don’t want game ball. take a L home with me. Well, thank you. So, it sucks. Um, but it’s one game. It’s our first game. Uh, it’s a it’s a good team. It’s a really good team. Um, it’s hard to win in the road. Uh, you got to execute offensively and defensively down the stretch. Uh, so, uh, we’re going to reconvene, uh, watch the film and go back home and, uh, try and play better in our home opener. You said the clutch defense will get better with time, but in this particular game, how much of it is just the gravity that Steph creates and the way that you guys have to rotate off of that? Super tough shot to send it to OT. Um, and that’s Steph being Steph. Last season you were quoted saying Russ wasn’t a dog, he was a wolf. And the same thing could be said of you. What uh drives you ups and downs regardless of that to make an impact that you have on the team? Uh he said to make an impact on the team. Uh just being here for my teammates. Um yeah, I mean these guys are great. So just trying to show up and be as good as I possibly can be for the next man. Um and have their back, be reliable because I know they got my back. And um yeah. Yeah. Just enjoying this. Just enjoying enjoying the the ability to play ball. Yeah. Is there anything about here for you? You’ve had not a 50 piece, but a a game like this is a score three straight years at Golden State. Man, DJ was playing slaps, you know what I mean? So, I’m I’m vibing the whole game, you know what I mean? He’s playing just a straight day that I grew up with, you know, I mean, just like hiy music, you know what I mean? So I was just out there getting high deep three to tie the game and the whole the whole the whole four quarter and over time he was really good. What is it about Aaron do you think that’s allowed him to improve his shooting the way that he has the last couple seasons? I mean probably shooting probably he was he was being in the gym and shooting the ball. So, uh, I think it’s that when they play you and drop so much like is it still important to like try and establish a little bit of an interior presence? Are you happy with the three-point looks you’re getting or I mean, I think I mix I need to mix it up. I’m happy with the three-point. I think I I was open and most of them were seemed like they were going in, but they didn’t. So, I mean, I’m I’m happy with the shots. you run down the floor and he’s knocking down a week. What’s it like? I mean, if someone scored 10 threes in a game, I think it’s it’s easy to play with a guy. So, whoever scores 10 threes in a game, it’s easy to play with that person. Felt like you guys were in control of this game for the better part of it. Where where do you think it shifted? Uh probably the jump ball when they uh I think we missed a layup and then Bruce and the staff were jumping to the wall. Who made a three after that? Like right after and then it was momentum shift. We had a layup miss layup and then after that it was just I think we didn’t control but we were like let’s say control the game. We were we had the lead most of the game. So is there anything that they did that made you think twice about the shots that you were taking or had an impact on your misses? I mean I don’t know. I mean, I think I um I think I’m happy with my shots that I took, you know, so the ball didn’t go ahead. So, sometimes it’s like that. What do you think about camp you can? How do you incorporate more? I mean, just playing, you know, just playing more, playing real games. Wait for me. Just playing more just, you know, getting used to it and we we getting used to him and he getting used to us. So, just playing wise, I think we just need to experience playing with him. you first bus guy. Uh I felt like every time we had a chance to really control the game, uh there was a loose ball, a turnover, a run out. Uh that kept them close enough and then obviously he he got going, which is what he does. Legendary player. Uh but we had chances. You know, end of the first half was a killer. Uh some of the turnovers late in the third just you have to stay clean in a building like this with what can happen with a player like that. So it uh you know I’ll say it right now like I feel awful for Aaron. Aaron had a night that you know I’ll never forget. I know he won’t. So tough loss. Um had many chances to win the game, control the game, and you give them credit. They just kept coming. How would you describe this night for Nola? I thought Nicole was good. He missed some shots he doesn’t miss. You know, the one at the end I thought was a great look. Uh I thought he got taken out on the offensive rebound, but that’s doesn’t matter now. Uh he had some really good looks from three. the way they guarded him, the drive coverage. They stop full rotating and that was a good look from him. Uh, you know, the guy doesn’t shoot well, but efficiently at least, and gets his triple double, you know, does his thing. So, we had a lot of guys have good performances, just not enough to win the game tonight. Uh, with Steph, there were parts of the game where you guys were able to get the ball out of his hands pretty well, show him bodies, all that. He’s also so good at sort of finding those pockets even when someone’s chasing us. Was there anything later in the game that you thought CB or Yoke or anyone else could have done better or or was it did it just reach a point where he was in that? Uh, no. I thought we a few times we didn’t send him in the direction of the defense. Uh, you know, he if he gets the other way, there’s no one on the other side of that pick. That’s what he got going with. Um, you know, and the shot he made to tie towards the end, it’s a shot that, you know, only he can make. Uh, but obviously you have to be up more. I think guys got hesitant because they did call a few things where it, you know, a little bit of contact, he got the call. So, you’re starting to, you don’t have a four-point play up three. Uh, but the where the hope was to make him drive the ball to the basket and obviously we weren’t up enough. Uh, and he made an unbelievable shot with with AD. He has a tendency to have these games at Golden State. Is there something about sort of the hometown area for him, you think, coming from? I guess you’re right. He’s had a lot of big moments here. uh big-time games and he was so good tonight and I thought he did it in a really efficient smart way. He wasn’t forcing it. He found the shots, you know, by letting his teammates, you know, move the ball side to side. He had the and one at the end where we got the matchup. Uh no, he he was just super clean tonight. Uh he ran our stuff well in the split game. Um you know, AG’s a special player. He has been for us for a long time. So, it’s a great night obviously for him, a tough night for the team to take an L on a night. We really want to do that for Aaron. Hey, coach. Um, back to Aaron. Everyone says, you know, they put in the work. We see everyone out there doing shooting work every single day. Yeah. Um, what is it specifically about Aaron where, you know, 29% a couple years ago now the way he did last season and obviously what he did tonight? What is it about him that you think is able to be successful at this stage in his career? I mean, there’s a calmness to his shot. I think that’s pretty noticeable. Uh it’s just the fundamentals are calm and when he shoots the ball, he takes his time and a guy with that kind of size and that ability to blow by you and dunk the ball. Um you’re going to take your time closing out to him so he can take his time shooting the ball. I think he’s figured that out and and like you said, it’s just the constant work, you know, it’s con constant maintenance and making sure he’s consistent. Uh so it’s been really cool to see him, you know, transform as a shooter over the years. coach. Right. Right here. Uh so on the stuff tying three, Steve Kirk put in a bunch of offensive players. He ties it. You elected to go for the timeout there instead of uh playing it out since you you had your starters on the floor. Why did you elect to go for the timeout there instead of just uh keeping everyone on the floor? Just wanted to make sure uh we got the right people in a combination pick and roll. Uh the way they were guarding by switching and kind of zoning up the role. Uh we wanted to talk about the formation and making sure we we twisted the pick which allowed Nola, you know, to roll to an open area. I didn’t want them to go out there uh and just play. Um it just seemed like a moment, let’s calm down for a second. What just happened to us? Let’s make sure we take the last shot. Uh you know, and Nicole got a great look. He really did. And he flipped the pick appropriately. Uh that’s what we were looking for. That was a really good pass by Jamal. It just didn’t work out. How do you make sure the steam of this loss was completed to Saturday’s home opener? Because there’s 81 left. I mean, there’s, you know, 41 at home and 40 on the road. Um, it was a game I’m sure they’ll replay. It was a crazy game. These are NBA nights. These things happen. Uh, but like I told them in there, if we won tonight and we went and stubbed our toe at home, what’s the difference? It’s one and one. Uh, so we have to refocus ourselves. New opponent on Saturday. Uh, get ourselves going at home. You mentioned legendary player. What is it like as a coach knowing that you guys can do what you want sometimes and he’s still going to pull one up from 35 to 40 knock? Yeah. And I thought uh they did a good job kind of bringing him from different parts of the floor where he wasn’t the the focal point from the beginning. Uh which makes it harder to be up to force him to the basket. And you know, there’s a million things after a game like this where you could say you change a match up, you change a match up, they’ll just still put somebody else in that situation, a pick and roll, regardless of how you cross match, whatever it may be. So, look, uh, it’s a tough loss for us. Uh, you know, first game of the season, a little more emotional as you get into the grind of it. Uh, but our guys have been through a lot. They’ll bounce back. What’ you think of the way Jamal controlled the game? Yeah, he was really good. Uh, I thought they started to hit the ball and pick and rolls and we got to make sure he’s in the center of the court so it’s easier for him to facilitate uh, you know, double teaming him and then pre-rotating to the roller uh, was effective at certain times. But I liked how he took his time. You know, they were in a lot of different coverages with Nola. Sometimes he’s got to be the aggressor. Uh, he made a lot of really good decisions, get people great shots. That was the thing about tonight. I think both teams, they created a ton of good looks. Uh we had, you know, missed layups at the end where we had control of the game. Uh moved the ball to Cam the one time in overtime. I thought that was a great look. CB screened in the rotation. Uh so there’s a lot of positives. It just uh wasn’t our night. Yep. Thanks,

  1. Bought NBA pass for Denver Nuggets to watch full game and Nicola's play. Well…. I would say Jonas Valanciunas deserve much more minutes if Jokic playing like this.

  2. someone please tell me they yelled at jokic for chucking a three and walking back on defense with 40 secs to go down two possessions. tired of jokic getting attitude during games like half our losses arenโ€™t cause heโ€™s a liability in the paint

  3. Now NOW NOW ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ Yall saying AD is the coach for the team, well, this wants to be the last time they lose might be more than Yall think

  4. Sta je bilo Nikola? sve lepo dobro pa kad te trebaju, ti zaspo. skupili su ekipu da ne samo ti osvojis titulu, I popravi situaciju sa Aaron-om nesta nije uredu.

  5. my thoughts, we can blame all… comments whatever…
The season just start, people are warm up. Good to se the rotations that they haven't last season. So just keep going. Denver!!

  6. AG doesnโ€™t like answering questions about his success if they lose. He has plenty to say about the team. This year, yโ€™all should try asking questions they want to answer instead of what yall know to know.

  7. Donโ€™t get me wrong I like CB but come on to give the man 25M a year is ridiculous! Another mistake like MPJ that will bite back. CB would need to be 3rd best player on a team to justify the cost.
