The Seattle Mariners lost to the Toronto Blue Jays and I’m sad

I’m sure the words will come to me. I’m sure Huh? In some ways, this is so much better than like not making the postseason. Uh, it’s better to have loved and lost than to have never loved at all or however that Shakespeare guy put it. Um, they’ve never been closer. It’s the furthest they’ve ever been pathetically. Um, there’s that and then there is definitely part of me and it’s an emotional part of me to be sure that just wishes they would have lost uh to Detroit in four just lose to Detroit in four cuz getting this close and losing is it’s devastating. It’s absolutely devastating to lose this weight too. And I am choosing to make this a recap of the year instead of a recap of the game because then I don’t lose my money. But you can’t recap the year without talking about the fact that you were up 3 to one. The Mariners blew a 3-1 lead. Hey, they get to be part of that. Isn’t that fun? Uh, you’re up three to one. You have eight outs to get. You got to get eight outs. Eight outs. Eight of them. That’s all. That’s it. Eight outs. You get eight outs, you go to the World Series for the first time in your franchise’s history, and you can’t do it. And why can’t you do it? So many reasons. So many reasons. Some of them because you don’t score enough runs tonight. You score three runs, you’re playing with fire. You are playing with fire. Especially the way this team has pitched lately. um you’re playing with fire. You don’t score enough runs and your pitchers don’t do the job at the end, right? You have to you have to acknowledge the jimmies and Joe’s here. In this case, an Edward and a Brian, a little bit of George, but mostly an Edward and a Brian. You have to acknowledge them. They’re part of the reason why you don’t win for sure. And you got to acknowledge the person who put those players into that position. And that’s the manager of the Seattle Mariners. And if you asked me to play the blame game, right? Let’s play the blame game. Let’s do it percentage-wise. Let’s let’s make a a hypothetical wheel. I am going 30% the offense. No, I’ll go 25% the offense. I’ll go 25% the players, the pitchers, and I will go 50% the manager of the Seattle Mariners because I’ve talked about this before. I think the the number one job of a manager is the clubhouse. And it’s hard to quantify, but it’s a really important job. And from everyone I’ve talked to, from everything I’ve seen, I think Dan Wilson does a really good job in the clubhouse. The players like playing for him. The players like playing for him and it matters. Okay. The second thing, and the thing that’s a little bit more quantifiable, is that the right word? If it’s not, just leave something in the comments. um is putting your players into position to succeed. And the one thing I think I can criticize the manager of the Seattle Mariners, I said his name, why am I afraid to say it? It’s Dan Wilson. The one thing I think we can criticize Dan Wilson for um I don’t think he always did a very good job of that in putting his play players in the best position to succeed. And I think unfortunately game seven of the American League Championship Series was a prime example of that failure. a prime example of that failure. And oh, to lose that way. To lose that way. And I’m just going to be honest. When I saw Bazardo come in, I knew in my heart of hearts that they weren’t going to win that game. And it’s not because I don’t think Bazardo’s good. Bizardo deserves a ton of credit for being one of the stabilizing parts of this pen. I almost said farts of this pen. Definitely wasn’t a fart tonight. Fart adjacent. Uh he deserves a ton of credit. The Mariners deserve a ton of credit for unlocking that version of Bizardo. He’s been awesome and he was really good in game six, but he threw two innings in game six. He threw two innings in game six. You’re just asking for failure. You’re asking for failure. If it was the bottom of the lineup, I would have had no issue going to Bizardo there. Um, I also think that leaving Woo in to begin the inning was a mistake. There was some hard contact there. You’re asking an awful lot for a guy who has missed two months to come in and get that many outs in his second appearance in a month. It’s asking a lot. It’s asking a lot. And I know it’s the bottom of the order. Man, if this video makes no sense, I sorry. And also, I don’t I don’t care. To get that close. to get that close to to have a three-2 lead in the series, to have a 3-1 lead in the seventh inning, to have a chance to advance to something you’ve never advanced, and to have it just snatched from you. Tonight’s one of those nights where I wish I wasn’t a sports fan. That I wish I was a Mariner fan. That I was a fan of the like a community guy. A person who roots for the local hometown nine but doesn’t doesn’t live and breathe through them. And I kind of literally do it because it’s my job now. It’s a large part of my income. But right now, I wish I was a freaking stock broker or a doctor or a lawyer or something that pays a lot of money, but doesn’t have anything to do with this stupid baseball team. And I I don’t know if I’ll feel that way tomorrow. I probably will. I’ll probably actually be even more angry. Probably. Probably. I probably um in a couple of weeks will get over this and be glad that I have this and all that stuff. And actually, I am glad I have this right now because this is a little cathartic. This is kind of nice getting to stare at a microphone and talk to you about how much this baseball team broke my heart and this sport broke my heart. But I wish I was a teacher, but like a teacher at a college. Um, there were so many good things that happened this year. I’m going to do my best to remember that. And it’ll be easier to do it. Maybe I’ll do another video and just talk about those good things. But what you saw from Cal Raleigh this year and of course he hits a homer today. What you saw for most of the year from Julio Rodriguez and of course he hits a homer and a double today and sucks that he has to be the last out because a lot of um uneducated baseball fans will point to him as the reason they lose and it’s it sucks. Um, it is what it is. Um, the Josh Naylor trade, the Gino Suarez trade. I mean, Molly, we’re talking about the Mariners. Let’s wake up. 14 years old. Why am I waking her up? Um there’s a lot of good the development from Brian Woo who became I think the mariner ace as all due respect to Logan Gilbert. Uh Andre Munoz took a huge step forward this year. Bazardo, nobody wants to hear it right now, but Bizardo took a a massive leap forward. We’ll see if he can do it again. That could be Colin Snyder. That could be Justin Topah, but this year was really good. Um, Randy had some great moments. Uh, we’ll do we’ll do all of this later. There’s a lot of good is what I’m trying to say. And yet, I would trade all of it for a win in this game. Now, how you do that, I don’t know, cuz you don’t get to this game without those guys. Not even close. Not even freaking close. But if I could, if I could take Cal Rley’s 60 homers and turn it into 32 and you win the game, here you go. If I could take Julio’s OPS after June and turn it from 900 to 800. Here you go. If that somehow leads to a win tonight, I would do it in a heartbeat. because I am freaking crushed. And here comes my freaking pity party for myself. Um, I’m just wondering when life is going to get good. When is life going to get good? When am I going to have a moment where I feel like my life is good? There’s some here and there. I I hang out with my nieces and I love that. I love hanging out with grandma. I called her tonight. She was pretty crushed. Pretty crushed. Um there’s times where I like my job. There’s times where I really don’t like my job jobs, but I can’t tell you I’m happy. And you know what’s that? What is it? The if you aren’t happy with a something something, you’ll never be happy with it. There’s a movie that has a moment like that. There’s definitely one. It’s like if you’re not enough without this, then you’ll never be enough with it. That’s probably true. The Mariners wouldn’t have give winning the World Series, going to the World Series wouldn’t have changed everything. I’d really like to see how much it could change. And I’m just gonna be honest with you again. When I knew that I didn’t get to go recap the game on this channel tonight, I’m very appreciative of what I get to do, but it hurt me a little bit that I didn’t get to just go right here. It hurt me. And I’ll have an interesting winter. I’ll have an interesting winter and I’m just sad. I’m really sad. I’m sad. I’m a little angry. I’m a little angry. Um, let me tell you another reason that I’m angry is, uh, I had ESPN opened and ESPN is like three pitches ahead of my Comcast. So, I saw the big blue Springer homers ahead of it. And there was part of me that was like, “Let this be a mistake. Let this be wrong.” It wasn’t wrong. I uh I don’t know. Hit like, hit subscribe. I uh I love you guys.

I don’t really wanna talk about it.

  1. Dont beat youselves up! As a Jays fan living outside TO i feel the pain of seeing the team you love lose it in a way you know isnt in their potential…trust me im a Jays fan we dont even get credit when we do win…Hang in there…it will come!

  2. Dan Wilson played to lose simple he gives a dumbass answer when they ask him questions. He put Bazardo in before Munoz or Speir bad coaching. The most sad thing about it 😔 is Dan Wilson played in the league and still doesnt know his best pitchers yet.

  3. This too shall pass. There are 124 teams in the 4 major sports and only 4 get to celebrate the ultimate triumph every year. Sports can be very cruel. Just take a break from it for 4 or 5 days. That's what I did when my Cubs lost the NLDS in heartbreaking fashion.

  4. If a baseball team determines whether your "life is good", you need to step back, take a breath of fresh air, and have some perspective. Find some hobbies. Make some friends. Read books. The fact that a sports team determines your happiness speaks a lot about your own psychology. Most people in this world wish their biggest sadness in the world was their team losing.

  5. All you Mariners fans should be pist and calling for your manager to be fired. He made a worst decision than our Blue Jays manager did in game 5. Game 5 Tor was leading 2-1 in 8th and didn't bring in there closer Hoffman but the loss was a good thing for Tor cause the were 0-2 in 4 home games to Sea. So the loss motivated Tor to win game 6 and force a game 7.
In game 7 as a Jays fan when I saw Sea was leading 3-1 in 7th I kid you not I thought it was over cause Sea Manager would bring in Munoz the closer to face Springer but he fuk up. To be up 3-1 in 7th on the road in a game 7 and you don't bring in your closer Munoz is mind boggling. But this is how destiny works. Keep your eye on the final results after the WS is completed and we'll talk again.

  6. Jeff Passan has spoken on Seattle Sports. In the postseason, there is no pitcher assigned to an inning. You put your best guy in the highest leverage moments. Jeff said that there is no universe where you use a good Bazardo instead of an OK Munoz at that moment. Jeff labeled Dan’s decision as egregious. When the decision could make or break your season, Dan didn’t use his best pitcher in the highest leverage situation.

  7. I feel bad for you guys. Seattle is my #2 team as a Jays fan and I went to a game at Safeco field back when you had Ichiro and cheered for the Mariners over the White Sox. I'm glad the Jays won, but wish it wasn't against Seattle! Best of luck for next year.

  8. I'll give Dipoto credit here for getting us Naylor and Geno. Normally, I dont. I really dont want to see the bottom order (Rivas, Canzone, Robles, Crawford) at spring training. They failed us. Cal will be Cal. Other than Cal, Naylor the rest should be traded. Good thing Colt Emerson is ready to replace JP. Kade Anderson just needs one more year, so's Ryan Sloan to replace Castillo and Logan (the fake ace, the real one is Woo) . And a majority here knew Dan screwed up. By his body language alone, you can read it. At least Cal will win the MVP.

I'm not really mad because the original objective was to take the AL WEST. To go this far, was a bonus. Cal cannot do this all by himself.

  9. I’m not going to be a hypocrite and say Wilson should’ve let Kirby pitch another inning or 2 since he looked sharp the last 2 innings because I was saying Kirby should only pitch 3 innings or so then Woo for another couple.

But I truly believe if Dan puts Spier in to start the 7th with 2 lefties due up, mariners win that game. Spier takes care of business. Munoz closes it out for the last 2 innings. Backup plan should have been if Spier didn’t retire 7-9 hitters in order to bring in Munoz to face the top of the lineup. Munny finishes the 8th and let Bryce Miller or Brash close it out in the 9th.

Love Woo and what he did this year but he wasn’t even close enough to be stretched out beyond 30 pitches. They blew it and that’s what makes it even that much more heartbreaking

  10. You cry a lot suck it up and you say George the cheat if he was on your team you wouldn’t say that would you baby and saying you hope the jays get killed poor sport you are grown man acting like a babby grow up better team one

  11. Hello from canada, u need some perspective ,this is a fn game of overpriced players playing for money, think on that and enjoy your health and everyday blessings u take for granted fool

  12. Both teams that entered the league in 1977. I thought Seattle when they had the likes of Griffey, Randy johnson, edgar martinez, jay buhner, arod and others that they would win a chip.
I think it was awesome that the expansion cousins played each other. That game 7 could’ve gone either way. Jays fans were just as nervous. Your Mariners team is on its way up. I believe it. It will happen sooner or later. If one year we don’t make the playoffs or get eliminated early i would love to cheer on Seattle.

  13. Take out a one-off season by Cal Raleigh and the team was just a good team, not a great team. They fed on awful teams the last few weeks of the season (except the Dodgers, ouch) and then struggled to beat the Tigers.

  14. George Springer got a Dinger in the 7th inning with 2 men on. You didn't think George forgot about that booing that went on there earlier in the series when your pitcher hit him in the knee, Did you? If it makes you feel better, I don't think the jays are going to do that great against L.A. The Blue Jays are a streaky team and can beat anybody by a large amount. If they get hot, there's not a dam thing that Japanese fella is gonna be able to do about it. Jays in 6. But there's a 50% chance the jays could lose 4 straight. I've watched them all year, and I know what I'm talking about when it comes to this team. They've pissed me off at least 30 times this year with the sloppy at-bats. They'll score 35 runs in 3 games, and then on the next 3 games, get 3 runs. They also have a habit of losing to weaker teams than stronger teams. I guess we're going to see shortly. See you next year, Seattle.

  15. What’s so crazy is that, even if you get past the Mariners putrid offense, and get past Dan’s choice of Bazardo, and get past Bazardo’s meatball that he served up……Springer still had to make perfect contact to hit the ball out…..why couldn’t he have hit the ball a fraction of an inch differently? The smallest difference would’ve resulted in a ground ball, or a fly out to the warning track……bad execution combined with bad luck too…..it’s all just so sickening. This was freaking Game 7 of the ALCS…..just sickening
