REACTION: Blue Jays score 9 runs in 6th inning in 2025 World Series Game 1 win
Blake Snell coming in had won five straight playoff starts. Only four pitchers in the LCS era had won six straight playoff starts. Cliff Lee, David Wells, Oral Hersheiser, and Dave Stewart. To add to that, Snell over his last six starts have been 5-0. The 68 RA opponents batting just 115 over that strand, 56 strikeouts. So quite simply, this guy was like the Terminator, Al. How did the Blue Jays get to Blakes now? I I it’s been their approach. I mean, we we talk about it that here’s a team that that doesn’t swing and miss. Their whiff rate is low. We just heard Dalton Baro talk about it’s about putting the ball in play, try to go center of the field. They struck out four times tonight, guys. I mean, Jimenez had two of them. You know, it’s just a slow grind, right? It’s foul ball, foul ball. I mean, each of these bats, there was seven pitch at bat, nine pitch at bat, six pitch, seven pitch, nine. Nine. You know, either resulted in an out or a walk. Three of them were walks. that it’s hard to navigate as you’re a pitcher. I don’t care if Blake snail two side young awards or not. You’re grinding just to get that out. And when you even if you get it out, in some cases there were walks, you feel like, oh, okay, I got to start over. And this is a full lineup. See why you know that from one through nine, you’re battling. You’re getting guys in 7 8 N that’s grinding these at bats. Watching these at bats, it was so impressive just as a fan of the game watching the way that the Blue Jays were really able to grind them out. You try to understand, okay, the Blue Jars, Blue Jays are number one in contact percentage with over 80% contact rate. What does that look like in actual game play? What kind of pitchers are you doing that against? Blake Snell, that’s the worst nightmare for an elite strikeout pitcher. If you’re an elite strikeout pitcher and you go out there and execute your pitch, you need to get that swing and miss. The worst thing somebody can do is Alejandro Kirk out there fouling your balls off, forcing you to make another pitch, forcing you to execute another pitch. And sooner or later, you’re going to make a mistake. You’re going to either walk the guy and they’re not going to chase or you’re going to leave a mistake over the plate and they’re going to make you pay. And I think of does does good pitching beat good hitting. And this was the matchup we were always looking to forward to. Elite strikeout guy versus an elite contact hitting team. I think the benefit today was that Snail just didn’t have his stuff today. Snail was missing. I think the 11 days off played a part right here. He wasn’t executing his fastball. He was missing just above the zone over and over again with his fast ball to get himself behind the count. And then you have a team that doesn’t strike out. It was a bad matchup and the Blue Jays were able to take advantage tonight of that. I’m glad you mentioned 11 days. Honestly, it is. I I don’t know what kind of sim games he had. I don’t know what kind of live BP 11 days, especially when you’re throwing as well as that Blake Snell had with his last two starts of of 14 innings with two hits. Yeah. And no runs. So, uh that was an issue we saw in the first inning. 29 pitches. We talked about it. Woo! You know, he he he he got out of it with no runs. But yeah, that that t it’s taxing. I want to throw this number out to you guys at this ball club right here tonight. 85 swings and they missed 15. Back to what you said, CY about the best contact team, 17%. League average in Major League Baseball is about 26%. So that tells you the approach of these hitters and how difficult it is to navigate. As you just said, CY Snell was due for a letown. Five runs over five innings, 100 pitches. Here’s his own self assessment. Learned a lot. Um I just I wasn’t locating the ball. I mean, it’s pretty simple. Um command with the fast ball wasn’t uh great. Uh really change up, I couldn’t locate that either. And then uh the last in there. Um I mean, yeah, I locate that pitcher all the time and then walk bow and I know what I can do and and get an out there. So, just frustrating, but learned a lot. Um, still confident. I know what I can do. I know who I am. Um, just Yeah. And then a mistake to show a fast ball down the middle. Um, just a tough game, but a lot to learn. So Blake still in his first three starts, six hits, 21 innings tonight, eight hits in five innings. Do you feel like CY left him in too long? No. No, I don’t feel like uh I don’t feel like Dave left him in too long. I think this is their blueprint to success. Yes. You see Snail going back out there in the sixth inning. He’s your ace. He’s pitching game one for you. I don’t have a problem with leaving your ace in the game in the sixth inning when he comes in starting the inning with 80 plus pitches. And I think when you look at the Dodgers and and what’s been their huge benefit this postseason, they haven’t had to use their bullpin that much. Their starters have been so good to where they’re getting you into the seventh inning and you can get the TR in, get to Sasaki. The concern for the Dodgers is what happens if you can get the starting pitcher out early. and the Blue Jays, they were able to figure that out tonight. If we can get Snail Snail got to 100 pitches through five plus innings right now. So that’s the the strategy for success to beat the Dodgers, get to the bullpen, and right there. Are you going to go to Emit Sheen? Are you going to trust Blake Snail for one more inning? I think if I’m Dave Roberts, I’m trusting Blake Snail for one more inning, try to get through that inning, and by the time the bases are loaded with nobody out, that’s not the time that I’m going to go get Trinan. Trinan has had his fair share of struggles. I’m not going to bring him in that situation with your back against the wall. My my only issue and look I I hadn’t drilled down on the Los Angeles Dodgers all year so I’ll admit to that but EMT Sheen was a starter. Yeah, of of his of his starts, he 12 of 15 games this year. He’s a starting pitcher. I could tell you as a starting pitcher, see why? When you’re out there and the nerves is getting ready, how to get ready, what do I tubing? Am I doing heavy ball? How much do I warm up? Pulsating. You’re coming in and base is loaded, you know. So, that that’s a reliever moment. And I’m not saying EMTT Sheen wasn’t capable, but I he looked a little placey for me. Uh and then he unloaded. He end up that the walk after he got placy with the first batter to get the hit. So yeah, I mean if if they need a starter to do what they’ve been doing this whole postseason and Blake Snell was Blake Snell, I am 100% of course for me he should be out there in the sixth inning. Don’t forget Blake Snell 2020 World Series got pulled too early this time. Maybe pulled a little late. The law of baseball, right? Law. But I don’t know if that’s a situation. It’s like dang if you do, Dang if you don’t. It’s one of those spots to where we haven’t built enough trust, unfortunately, with some of the other guys in our bullpen right now. And Dave Roberts has a tough task to try to figure out what guys can I trust to try to win this World Series right here on the fly in some of the heaviest spots that you’re going to come across. And and it’s a tough spot. So, right there, I have no problem with him trusting his ace. Yeah. First 10 games this postseason, Dodgers open 488. That has been a concern for them.
@MLBNetwork breaks down how the Toronto Blue Jays’ lineup was able to get results against Los Angeles Dodgers starter Blake Snell, culminating in a 9-run 6th inning during Game 1 of the 2025 World Series on October 24, 2025.

Jays in 6
Is it true that ,Andy Pages a player for the Dodgers whose wife is Mexican, will be able to play for Mexico in next year's World Baseball Classic? He is from Cuba, and neither of his parents are Mexican. Will he be allowed to play under WBC rules? Will the WBC Baseball Association allow him to play for Mexico?
Jays in 3 cuz this game should count for two how they DESTROYED the Dodgers 😬
Blue Jays won and these guys talked more about the Dodgers
Jays crush ace pitchers
Quit making up excuses Jesus the blue jays were the far better team tonight
Typical American announcers. Jays are a really good team. But let’s keep talking about how they’re going to keep kicking us.
Bench Andy Pages. Alex Call deserves a start.
Let’s see Yamamoto tomorrow
This jays lineup reminds me of the quick montage in Sandlot of all the kids getting hits.
That was a HUGE BLOWOUT! Going to be hard for tomorrow’s game!
Blue Jays did what they had to which was make the starter work hard and get to the bullpen. Yama, Glasnow, and Shohei have to turn it up even higher if they want a shot at winning this series.
