Seattle Seahawks Trade Deadline Thoughts: New York Jets

What’s going on everybody? Good afternoon. Hope you guys are doing well on this Friday and I think it’s time we get started with some deep dives into the trade deadline and the possibilities that it brings. The Seattle Seahawks are 5-2. The Seattle Seahawks are in a very tough division, a very competitive division. So, you put it all together and the team should probably be thinking about acquiring some pieces at the trade deadline. And the trade deadline is about a week and a half away, November 4th at 400 p.m. Eastern, 1 p.m. Pacific. That’s the deadline. So, we got time, but the sooner the better. Seahawks are in a by-week right now, so they have a little bit of extra time to look over their options, and they also have plenty of cap space to make almost any move work. So, let’s talk a little bit about the tread deadline back in 60 seconds. All right, guys. Let’s take a minute so I can tell you guys about Sleeper. I’ll tell you a little secret as well. It’s more than just a platform for fantasy leagues. This year, millions of users have enjoyed playing fantasy sports on Sleeper, but there’s so much more to it. So check out Sleeper today and use those promos. Okay. So, when you’re talking about being a buyer at the trade deadline, you need to find a seller. And when you want to try to find a seller, you need to find a bad team. And these days, you need to find a really bad team because almost half the teams make the playoffs and every team feels like they can turn it around in one off season. I think that’s become the typical expectation. Nobody really wants to give up their assets because everybody feels like they’re going to be the next team that just blows up out of nowhere and becomes an overnight Super Bowl contender. And every team and well, not every team, but most teams also feel like they can get hot at the end of the year and sneak in as the seven seed. I it’s it it’s one of those things where everybody wants to live in the most optimistic timeline possible. So, let’s go to a team that can’t possibly be optimistic about anything right now. The New York Jets. The worst team in the league so far. The only team in the league without a win. 0 and7. Completely hopeless. Completely helpless. Just just bad. Just indefensibly bad. And not only are the Jets bad right now, like worst team in the league bad, I think that anybody with any scrap of common sense will acknowledge this team is years away from being good. They just don’t have enough going on to be encouraged about this um about about this near future. They don’t have their quarterback. I think that we’ve all kind of figured that out at this point. Um, they’re they’ve got a couple of their good skill position players under contract extensions, but I it I don’t know how excited they are about that at this point. They’ve got a couple pieces on defense locked up, but there isn’t a lot on this team that makes you feel like, hey, 2026, this Jets team is going to come out of nowhere and be great. So, if there’s any team in the league that needs to just get rid of whatever assets they have that they don’t have immediate use for, it’s the New York Jets. So, I’ve got notes here. I’ve got extensive notes here, by the way, that I’m going to be reading through as we go through this. But, there are four players on the Jets that I want to get to in this video that the Seahawks should at least think about trading for. Um, I personally like some of these players more than others. Uh, there are definitely some guys that I’m going to talk about in this video just for the sake of being a completionist that I wouldn’t really want, but I know that some people might. So, let’s just go ahead and do it. And let’s start with Bree Hall. Bree Hall, the running back, who was the first running back taken in the 2022 draft a few picks before Ken Walker was the next running back taken off the board. So, there was a little bit of a Bree Hall Ken Walker connection in that draft. And I actually remember I liked Bree Hall more coming out of the draft than I did K9. Now, real quick here, K9, you take a look at his play. I mean, the rookie year, he didn’t play a lot. He only played in seven games, but he was pretty productive when he played. He was efficient. He was effective doing his thing. Second year, broke out, almost had a thousand yards, was a great receiver out of the back field. That’s really one of his best strengths, by the way. He’s an excellent receiver out of the backfield. Almost 600 yards in 2023. Seemed like we were headed for somewhere pretty great at that point. And then 2024, not quite as good. Still effective, still productive, but things definitely fell off a little bit. He didn’t get the ball as much. He wasn’t as effective when he got the ball in his hands. And this year, he’s been good, right? But he has had limited opportunities, it feels like, because I mean, a big problem is the Jets. right? Like when you’re a bad team, your running back isn’t going to get the ball as much as he should because you’re always playing from behind. Uh Bree Hall has had a massive injury in his career already. So, he’s not exactly he’s not exactly the picture of health. He had it was either an ACL or an Achilles a few years ago and you don’t like that, but he’s been productive since then. So, he’s proven that he can still play even after that. And the the other side of that is he doesn’t have a ton of miles on him. He has one year where he pushed up near about 300 touches, but he’s never had a year where he actually went over 300 touches. And he’s obviously been kind of underutilized so far this year because of the circumstance. He’s only 24 and a half, so he’s not particularly old. Now, trade let let’s talk about the trade possibilities here. So, looking at the over the cap page, I uh let me take a look at my notes here. So this is the final year of his contract. So these next 10 games are the last 10 games that he has on his current contract. Uh the base of this year, the base salary is about 3.4 million. So that’s the number that we would have to be thinking about in a trade, but we wouldn’t have to think about the whole thing. So remember, he’s played seven games for the Jets. He would play presumably 10 games for the Seahawks. we would only be on the hook for 10 of his game checks. And of course, we’re not on the hook for the bonus, which is about 934,000 because the Jets have already paid that. So, his game checks are about 200 grand per game. So, therefore, if you traded for him, your the salary that you would be on the hook for for Bree Hall would be about $2 million. So, you’re taking on $2 million to get Bree Hall. Now, that’s definitely manageable. That’s not something that would be a big deal to this team at all. Very, very likely a player of Bree Hall’s caliber would be worth $2 million over 10 games. Now, because the contract is almost expired and because Bree Hall’s not having a great year, he has zero touchdowns through seven games for whatever that’s worth and about, well, actually, not even 600 total yards from scrimmage. I don’t think you’d have to give up that much. You’re talking about maybe a fourth or a fifth round pick. Maybe not even. Maybe not even. We’re talking about trading for a guy for 10 games. Now, here’s my question. If you traded for Bree Hall, would you then have to extend him immediately or would you feel obligated to extend him at some point? What would that extension look like? Because this has been a very productive player over the last few years of his career, even if this year isn’t his best one. Is the extension going to be in the realm of three years 45 million like 15 million per somewhere around what Derrick Henry got extended to fairly recently? Remember Derrick Henry got that extension when he was clearly not in his prime anymore. Derrick Henry got that money when he was pretty clearly on the cusp of entering a different phase of his career. But you’re giving Bree Hall an extension based on the fact that he’s 24 and a half years old right now. So you might be looking at something like 3 years 45. So that has to be factored in here because if you trade for him, you’re going to feel obligated to at least consider the extension. Nobody wants to give up an asset for 10 games of a player even if the player is good. Now, I’m not big into the idea of trading for a running back because I don’t think the talent level of our running backs in Seattle is the thing that is preventing us from having a good rushing attack. Bree Hall is a good player though. I wouldn’t be against it. This guy has been very good in his career. I mean, last year he did give you over,300 yards from scrimmage efficiently, too. Pretty efficiently. So, he’s probably better than the guys that we have right now. He’s probably better than Walker. He’s probably better than Charbanet and he would help and he does give and it does give you kind of first dibs on the extension discussions if that’s something you even want to do. I um I’m I’m not super into this one, but I do know that some people will be. So, I wanted to touch on it for a little bit here. Now, the second guy offensively that the Jets have that I think needs to be discussed here is actually Joe Tipman. Now, Joe Tipman is in a weird spot right now. Joe Tipman is a center and he’s a very good center. If you go to Pro Football Focus and you go back to 2024, rated very well. 73.4 for the Jets. Played over a,000 snaps at center, allowed three sacks, 23 total pressures. Joe Titman can play. 2025 comes around, they move him to right guard, and he has not been anywhere near as good. 57.8, 18 pressures allowed, five sacks allowed, the Jets are kind of jerking him around and he’s a much worse player for it. So, if the Jets are looking at this and they really want to roll with Josh Meyers at center, who is their current center, maybe you call them about Titman and you say, “Hey, clearly you’re not that enamored with him. You’re going to get Elijah Vera Tucker back next year anyway. like do do you want to get something for Titman now while you can? And I think they’d consider it, right? Joe Titman has this year and next year left on his contract. The Jets odds of being worth anything by the time they get to the end of that rookie deal is very low. Maybe now is the time to try to get an asset here. He’s losing value because he’s playing that right guard spot where he is not meant to be playing. And I know that they’re doing it out of necessity, but I mean, there’s a reason why they did sign Josh Meyers, and they have him now. So, why not do something here? Looking at the Titman contract on over the cap here, we have again one year remaining. So, this year and next year, there’s about 888,000 base remaining on this year with the 10 game checks he’s still due. And then there’s about uh 1.9 million just under 1.9 million in 2026 base that you would also be on the hook for. Although if it’s base, you could cut him in the offseason, I guess, but you probably wouldn’t. So you’re not inheriting a lot of money here. This is definitely something that is doable. The Jets, they would have to pay out the $769,000 in signing bonus next year’s dead cap. So, it’s not a big dead cap hit. So, it’s definitely manageable for them on that end. And again, I I think that while Titman has proven he’s a pretty good player in this league, we are talking about a guy who was formerly a what? Yeah, he was a mid-second round pick. He’s been good, but you’ve depressed his value because you’re playing him out of position this year. You might be able to get him for a fourth round pick. Again, the Jets are not necessarily going to be looking for massive a massive hall here. They’re just going to be looking for something because they know that Titman is not really going to be helping them win. And by the time they’re ready to win, Titman will be looking for an extension that they may not want to give out. Maybe you push this up to like even a third rounder because he does have the Oh, excuse me. One second. Sorry, guys. Cough just won’t leave me here. But uh yeah, there’s um there there maybe it pushes up to like a third round pick here, but there’s not a lot of dead money for the Jets to eat here. There’s not a lot of money that you have to take on, and you don’t have to worry about an extension yet because he’s still in his third year. Okay, so that is the two pieces on the Jets offense that I would kick the tires on. Defensively, there are also two guys and they’re both edge rushers. Now, I want to stress this. In order for the Seahawks to trade for an edge rusher, they probably have to trade one of their edge rushers. And it probably has to be done in a separate deal. Like, do you think the Jets would want to trade for Boy Maf? I don’t think so. What is Boy Maf going to do for them? Do you think the Jets want to trade for Chenna Nosu? What’s Uenna Noosu going to do for them? No. They’re going to want picks. So, you probably would make this deal and then make a separate deal to trade Maf out because that’s too many edges. You have five good edges at that point. You don’t really need that many edges, especially when all the guys are just ready to go right now. If one of them was like a like a Mike Williams, a guy who clearly isn’t really ready to play in the NFL, that’s one thing. But all these guys are ready to go. So, the first guy would be Will McDonald, edge rusher for the Jets. Let’s uh talk about this. Former first round pick, 26 and a half years old. He had a really good year last year. 10 and a half sacks. Broke out big time for the Jets. And this year so far, not quite so impressive, but again, when you’re the Jets, how are your edge rushers ever going to get quarterback pressure and sacks when the other team never throws the ball because you’re always behind? So, I I would definitely not look at that and say, “Oh, well, we can make sweeping generalizations about the player.” A lot of this is circumstantial. So, I still think Will McDonald’s a good player. Is worth noting he was an older rookie, so he probably doesn’t have much of a ceiling beyond what we’ve seen so far. Now, you take a look at the contract again. He has one year left on his deal after this year. So, the base remaining this year is just under 800,000. The base next year is about 1.66 million. So, not a lot, not a big amount of money. Definitely money that you’re willing to take on as a team. And there is significant dead cap, not huge dead cap for the Jets if they trade him. About 2.2 million in dead cap that they would take on because of the signing bonus that Will McDonald is due next year. So, you you’d have to give up a little bit more. This is also a player who’s proven in recent memory he’s quite good. And again, you’re getting one more cheap year after this year because you have one year remaining on the on the deal. So, I imagine you’re talking about at least a third round pick with Will McDonald, maybe even a third round pick plus. I don’t think you’re going to get into second round territory, but I think you’re going to have to give up about a third rounder and possibly a little bit more. I’m not super into this one, but if you’re trying to find a way to get another year of club control on a talented edge rusher and you want to flip over Maf because you’re about to lose you’re about to lose control of him, it’s not a bad idea. It you could definitely do worse. And McDonald’s a good player. And also remember, he’s a first round pick, so you do have the fifthear option. So, you could push off an extension even another season if you wanted to. Now, the fifth year option would be pretty pricey, but if he comes in and plays well for you, he’d be worth it. Okay, one final guy for these Jets that I would consider trying to trade for would be Germaine Johnson, the other edge player they have. Um, I know some people are going to mention Quinnon Williams, and obviously Quinn Williams is great, but we don’t need another three-tech. And I mean, as good as Quinnon Williams is, I think at a certain point there’s a law of diminishing return. So, let’s talk about Germaine Johnson here. This one’s a little bit tricky. So, understand where we are here with Germaine Johnson. Former first round pick, going to turn 27 in January. So, getting towards his prime. We’ve got a Pro Bowl year in 2023. Guy made the Pro Bowl. Can’t say that about Will McDonald. Seven and a half sacks, 55 tackles, 11 tackles for loss. He was great. He was great for the Jets in 2023. Seemed like he was a budding star. Since that season, he’s played a grand total of six games and has one sack and 20 tackles. So, I mean, can’t stay healthy, can’t stay on the field, no production, nothing to say. He’s just been It’s been a little bit of a disappointment. It’s been definitely somebody who just seemed like he was headed towards the upper echelons of edge rushers in this league. And now going through his fourth season, his final year of being really cheap, there’s um I I I I don’t know. There’s I I don’t know what you’re going to get. I don’t know what you got. But maybe this is the kind of cheap move that you make. get another edge rusher in here just to maybe see if you can get something out of him that the Jets haven’t been able to. Contractually, it’s a little bit complicated because the Jets have already picked up his fifth year option. Okay, so there’s one year remaining on the deal because they picked up that fifth year option. Now, this year, the base salary remaining is a little less than one a.5 million. Not that big of a deal. 1.5 uh call it 1.46 46 million. So that’s no problem. But you have a lot of base in 2026. 13.4. Now it’s base. So you can trade for him, get him for the rest of the year, decide you don’t like what you see, and cut him, and you don’t owe him anything. But if you want to keep him, you have to pay a lot. He doesn’t have one more cheap year like a lot of these guys. Now, the Jets would not have to take on big dead cap, 1.7 million approximately in dead cap if they trade him right now. They’re not on the hook for any signing bonus next year because there is no signing bonus in the fifthear option. This is definitely something the Jets would do just to go ahead and move on and maybe give more playing time to Michael Clemens, a young edge that they’ve had on their team for a little bit now, more so than getting any back any real compensation back because this guy hasn’t been productive for the last year and a half. If the Jets traded him at best, I think they get like a fifth round pick. They’re just happy to get anything for a guy that hasn’t been able to stay healthy and they’re about to potentially have a lot of money owed to him. Although I I doubt that they keep him on that uh $13.4 million base even if they keep him. Um so fifth round pick at best. So it would be cheap, but I’m not really feeling it because of all the moving parts behind getting another edge. But on the table. All right, see you guys later. GoHawks. 1. Raider jaxson power Johnson, swap for t.knight and later round pick. Get a good guard or center. Even slide our center to guard and solidify the offensive line even more.

  2. Only positions I think we can immediately upgrade are RG and NT but thats better to do in the draft, especially this upcoming one. Given that almost every notable player on this team is due an extension or restructure within the next year or so, I feel like we should be more sellers if anything.

  3. No to all of those. Those edge rushers aren't any better than what we have now. Breece Hall's stats would look no different than K9's or Charbonnet's. Tippmann is ok, but I'd rather wait for Outzs to get back and have him pick up whoever bulldozes their way through the interior of our o-line. Brady Russell is useless. He's like a walking pylon when he's on the field. I assume he's great at getting coffee and donuts in the morning meetings.

  4. Tippman would be a good C pickup, especially with a taller pocket passer like Darnold who can see over his 6.6 frame. Coach Mike would utilize Will McDonald in a variety of ways that would unlock his true potential. Our biggest need is still RG though, and rumor has it that Bradford is getting benched in favor of someone on our team this week. The problem is that this is so close to the trade deadline, with a championship-caliber team, we can't afford a Wait-See approach to one of our bench players; we need a RG NOW.

  5. We need a RG or Center who can play C/RG, not an RB! Tippman is better than Bradford so that's a thought! We should seriously look at that! A NT might be nice, but Pili may end up being good enough to be the guy. Not seeing their Edge's being any better than what we already have…🤔

  6. The Jets jumped us in order to get Breece. Since then there hasn't been a huge difference between he and K9. Something of a push move to me. While I like Hall's running style a bit more, in terms of production they aren't that much different at all. On paper they look virtually like the same dude.

  7. ILB and IOL are only positions I’m interested in trading for, and ILB isn’t even a big concern if Drake can keep up with his incremental improvement. I don’t even k ow what happened to Knight this year. Improving RG or C would go a long way to making the playoffs, I don’t even need both, just a league average IOL. Call up the Browns, Titans, and even Raiders while you’re at it.

  8. I Loved Tipman as a OC for Seahawks his draft year, him and or Powers-johnson. Trade Sea RG Flagford & a 5th Round, maybe 4th Round pick for 1 of them, maybe also consider IOL Corbett, Ruiz or Aaron Brewer (whichever 2 fit wide zone scheme and fit & fill starting O Center & RG best for us, then trade for Breece Hall contingent on completing a trade of K9 to a RB needy team in the AFC (preferably not KC nor Indy not that they need a RB) then use that pick for K9 directly or to offset using our own later 4th-5th Round pick traded for RB Hall. Think Jermaine Edge Johnson would be a quality fit & player for immediate & potentially longer term, I'd say probably another contingency trade, depending what we can get for Mafe to a Edge needy afc teem like NE Patriots or SD Charges that's not much if any type of potential deep playoffs or Super Bowl Contending Team (like with K9) for 2 reasons: not likely at all to face in potential Super Bowl matchup and to get a higher # pick in round for trade compensation received for them

No idea what thier trade cost & value is nor would be, but shouldn't be very much to potentially trade for: Edge/DE/34 DE injury depth & rotational depth quality is:
    Keion White

Could also probably scour D rosters for not as big of, as costly in trade costs nor salary of teams like Saints, Dolphins, Jets, Titans & Browns, maybe after Sunday & Monday's football games teams could end up deciding thier out of it & prefer longer term rebuilding/reset/enhancement capital if they lose this week 7?/8? games this week, also with those previously listed teams could end up beingsome of the: Ravens, Giants, Jaguars, Bengals (less likely with Franchise/ownership historical behavior), maybe even the Steelers, Texans, Panthers or Bears.

WR should only be considered if the injuries to Horton and or D. Young are more significant with longer 100% recovery times, injuries that nag & hamper play & availability significantly over multiple weeks and there's nobody legitimately consistently capable enough at & to be a solid enough #3/#4 caliber primary starting with a decent enough, successful enough amount of ST abilities & at least CFB if not NFL Experience on a practice squad Schneider has very very often had stacked with reasonablely decent enough injury backup depth, developmental WRs on it, then maybe consider a guy like a:

#2B/#2C WR Jokobi Meyers or similar caliber, type & cost of a veteran NFL WR to potentially trade for, not a big name guy like Olave, Cheetah nor Jalen Waddle big name & costs type WRs. WR very largely depends on the status, seriousness, time expected to potentiallymiss & conditions of Horton & D. Young.

Also maybe consider improving the off ball LB depth quality with a guy like Cody Barton.

if we can trade him to either use that Mafe trade compensation pick directly to aquire Edge Jermaine Johnson or to help offset his trade costs
