POSTGAME SOUND: ATLANTA HAWKS VS. ORLANDO MAGIC | COACH MOSE, WENDELL CARTER JR. & FRANZ WAGNER
Coach, you often, you know, preach about the details. How much did free throw shooting and turnovers hurt your group tonight? I think that was it. I think, you know, you get to the free throw line 37 times. Um, go 24 for 37. You don’t give yourself a chance there. Those are opportunities that can, you know, kind of break the back of the of the opponent. When you knock them down, it goes from a 10-point lead to possibly a 15-point lead. Uh but when you miss them, they have the opportunity to come back down the stretch. How did you feel like your team dealt with their composure throughout the game, especially in the second half? You know, I think there were moments that, you know, we got together, we we tied it in, and then there was moments that we could we couldn’t be better. There’s absolutely a truth there. Um, and these are lessons we have to continue to learn as we, you know, come down the stretch in these close games because they’re going to be a lot of close games. What did you see from Jaylen late? I mean, felt like he was putting his body on the line quite a bit there. He does that. That’s who he is. You know, he he plays hard. He put, you know, he th lays it all on the line every time he touches the floor. Uh, because he knows the opportunity that that he has. So, you know, he’s going to continue to do that for us. I know we’ve made a lot of trying to increase the pace and trying to find some life in the offense. What did you think about the the the pace and and maybe the tempo that the team played with in the second half and what do you need to do when that slows down a little bit or slows down more than you’d like it? Yeah, you know, I think a lot of the turnovers happened early and and in a lot of ways it was just, you know, the spacing, the timing, the movement, that was a big portion of it. I think us being able to get out in transition is something that’s going to be key for us on the stops. Um, but the other side is, you know, you miss, you go 24 for 37 from the free throw line, it’s hard to give yourself a chance in a close game. Even even even with the free throws, like you guys missed, I think 10 of those free throws in in the first half, you guys still had had the lead. What when what maybe went sideways in in in that fourth quarter especially, I know you guys struggled with the three-point shot in in the second half, but what when what maybe went sideways that that kind of got the offense offkilter a little bit to to not score even with the missed free throws? You know, you got to give, you know, Atlanta a ton of credit for the way they turned up the defensive pressure, the defensive heat, you know, a lot of the physicality there. You got to give them credit for the way they played. Uh, we’ll go back and look at the film, see where we can improve, and we got to, you know, bounce right back and get one tomorrow. What went into the decision surrounding Jonathan Isaac and Jet’s minutes tonight? Felt like Jonathan just played those final nine seconds, the third, and Jet had two separate two-minute sins. I’m just wondering what went into those decisions. you know, just guys getting the opportunity for those stints, you know, get guys breathers because the way we’re playing, you give guys a moment to play. They step in, they play their opport they get their moments in the game and that’s what they that’s guys are stay ready when they’re called upon. Tristan was strong on Wednesday night as well as tonight. Uh what are you seeing from him and was there maybe any consideration of putting him in the last couple minutes in the game? There was some thought about it. You know, I think that group in there had had a little bit of a rhythm and they had worked on some things together. So, I think, you know, go back and look at the tape and see exactly what we could have done differently, where we could improve, uh, other than the free throws and the turnovers, but what could we have done, you know, tactically different? Coach, what makes Trey Young so difficult to stop, especially when he’s getting downhill with his shiftiness and how he moves about with his body? Yeah, you know, he he got downhill quickly down the stretch cuz his ability to knock down shots, so you have to press up. Uh, and then you know a couple of those last ones where he gets downhill and stops on a dime and you you’re you’re stuck in the place of you’re trying not to foul but he takes away your space and then you give him that call. So it’s hard you know you’re trying not to play defend him without fouling without giving up the easy layup. But he’s such a shifty player that he can stop on a dime and get that call as well as you know kind of throwing his body into the defender and then getting that call. So it’s tough to defend it that way. Coach, 22 of their first 27 points were in the paint. What are some of the things you want to do to sh up those gaps in that area? We got to sit down and guard our yard, you know? I mean, understanding who we’re closing out to them attack in the middle of the floor. We’ve got to be better there. Uh just closing off gaps and then showing early help and then getting out. Paulo struggled with his with his shot in Wednesday’s game. Struggled again with his with his field goal percentage at least in in tonight’s game. What what do you need to do to get him going and get him moving in the right direction to to be the player that you know he can be? You know, Apollo continues to work. I don’t I don’t there’s not something I worry about with him when it comes to that. like he puts in the time, puts in the work, understanding how he needs to play and what he’s going to continue to do. On the other end, Fran le led you offensively, come out aggressive in both games. What have you seen from him offensively so far this year? Uh just a a pure level of aggression. Uh getting out in transition, getting some early easy baskets. Um you know, make or miss, looking to get out and run. Uh just putting pressure on the defense, putting you know, getting to the paint, touching the paint, and then being able to make a play from there. Thank you all. Appreciate Just real quick, do you expect to have Jaylen available tomorrow? Okay, thanks. Dell, your group normally prides itself on the details. You know, how much did the missed free throws and turnovers hurt your group tonight? Uh, that was the game in my opinion. Um, we we had control of the game, majority of the game, even with our mishaps. But, um, the fourth quarter is where games are won. And, you know, including myself, we all we all had some some lows on the defensive end and offensively. Um, you know, sometimes it was a little unorganized. So, um, in my opinion, you know, it’s it’s an easy fix, but, you know, it’s just something that we had to pay attention to going into the next game. What What makes it an easy fix? Obviously, you guys are trying to play a bit faster on offense, but just from your perspective, what do you think makes it an easy fix? Uh, because we we all we all want to win, you know what I mean? So, we’re we’re all able to have those conversations with one another. Um, constructive criticism. Um, and then we just keep it moving. You know, we all understand that it’s never a personal thing. So, um, you know, and we got great leaders, great vocal leaders. So, you know, this is this is a game that we’ll talk about and we keep it pushed. We got another one tomorrow. just we’ve made a lot of about the kind of changes you guys are trying to make on offense, how you’re trying to play faster. What what do you need to do when you kind of hit those ls on offense where maybe the ball slows down a little bit or you get a little stagnant? Um I think we just all got to be on the same page once we slow the ball down, get into a good set. Um whether that set gets you the bucket or the initial action, getting to the second action and uh yeah, I think that’s the that’s the biggest thing. A lot of us didn’t know uh kind of what we were running. We weren’t echoing calls. we weren’t there there was a moment in third quarter where we weren’t together on the offensive end and and we let it affect our defense. So, um those those are the moments that we had to be able to control. I’m not saying we have to make every shot that we shoot, but we got to at least get good looks, you know, not turning it over and just giving up the possession. So, um like I was saying earlier, it’s e easy fix because we have a great team that, you know, wants to win, knows how to win, and uh we’ll figure it out for sure. It’s the second game of the season. Obviously, you don’t want to lose any game, but finding the silver lining, is it better to have this type of loss earlier in the season or what’s the perspective going in just taking away from this game? Uh, like you said, no, no one wants to lose. Um, but at the same time, we we understand you’re not going to win every game in this in this in this league. So, um, you know, this is some this is this is one we’re going to go back and watch um figure it out and then we like you like like I was saying earlier, we just got to move forward. You know, we got 80 more of these things. So, uh um yes, it was it it was a tough game for us. Uh you know, we we like I said, we we had possession of the game, most I mean, uh control of the game most of the game. Um but yeah, we we got to fix those those four or five minute laws that we’ve been having. Quick turnaround tomorrow for Chicago. Is that still a game you still circle on the calendar? And what are you looking for to get a W tomorrow? Uh yeah. Well, to answer your first question, definitely a game I always circle. Um, you know, it keeps me engaged, keeps me, you know, ready to go. Um, and, uh, you know, we look at it as a must win. We don’t we never want to drop two in a row. Um, especially here here at home. So, uh, you know, the the biggest thing is recovery for us. You know, it’s just, you know, got our legs underneath us. So, we able to still be able to run offensively and then, um, you know, like I was saying earlier in those lows, we got to find a way to be be more together. D, from your perspective, what did you see on that collision? uh late in the game between Jaylen and Trey. It seemed like there was quite a bit of frustration with the way the ref decided to call it. Which one? It was really late. I don’t remember how many minutes were left. It was super late in the game and they kind of it was towards the elbow. They collided with the rebound. Yeah. Yeah. Oh yeah. Uh Jay was just trying to make a play on the ball. Um yeah, it was a it was I think it was down two, I think. Down three, I think. Uh tried to make a play. Um that was it. I don’t think there’s nothing to it. Yeah. You led the game in rebounds. You had the huge put back in the first game. When you make those big offensive rebounds, can you feel the momentum shift for your team and energize your team? Do you pride yourself on those type of hustle plays with how important second chance points are? And also, how is that transition fast break alioop to Anthony Black feel like tonight? Uh yeah, that’s something I pride myself on. This that’s something that this team needs. Uh you know, we we got a lot of gifted gifted gifted offensive players. Um, so I just try to find my way to fit in fit into the system and that’s that’s one of the ways that I know I can provide that every single night. Um, and definitely, you know, when I do have those moments is definitely uh I definitely feel that momentum shift for sure. And uh yeah, that’s that’s that’s a part of my bag, you know, I’m able to throw a little louds here and there. So, uh, yeah, that was that was fun. Thanks. I’ll be back. Fron, your group is normally one that prides itself on the small details. You know, how much did the free throws and turnovers hurt you guys tonight? Yeah, hurt us a lot. I feel like we kind of beat ourselves. Um, not to take credit away from Atlanta, but I think a lot of the mistakes we made, um, Norma just self-inflicted and, you know, we got to clean those up. Fr 27, but only two in the fourth. Was there anything that they did differently late that made it tough for you on offense, I guess? Um, no. I It’s just how the game goes sometimes. And obviously Dyson Dan is a great defender. I had two turnovers that um, you know, led to them tying up the game. Um, doesn’t matter who scores points, honestly. We just got to get a win. We’ve we made a lot of kind of the increase in tempo and and then the faster pace you guys are trying to play at. What what do you need to do when you notice maybe the team becoming stagnant or or slowing down to to a level that you you guys do not want to do this year? Um I think you’re going to have lows. I honestly thought in that in that third quarter where they made a run uh we got some really good looks just didn’t make them. And then I did think we stalled out a little bit in the fourth. Um yeah, just I don’t know finding the next action. Um and just you know kind of play quicker in the half court as well. It’s not going to be fast like that. Um especially towards the end of the game. So um you know that’s when executing the half court becomes more important. You mentioned I think on Wednesday about kind of learning the habits kind of the new habits that you want. Is is that is this just kind of part of the process of just kind of embedding embedding that embedding what you want in in this? I don’t think we lost because of that. I thought we played a good game. We missed some shots there. Like I said in the third, we had way too many turnovers and missed too many free throws. Other than that, we would have won the game. As far as some of the positives go, we saw a lot of Fron plus bench lineup, Paulo plus bench lineup. What do you guys like about the versatilities of those lineups? Yeah, I think um you know I think obviously um it’s good sometimes to not have both of us out there and I think that allows for a lot of room for for either one of us and um you know just finding ways to know play to each player’s strength out there and like I said I thought we especially in the first half especially in the second quarter I thought we um played a pretty good offensive game and um you know if we clean some of those mistakes up. Like I said, I think we’ll be fine. France Tristan’s had a good twoame run here to start the season. You know, you got to play with him over the summer with Euro basket. What are you seeing from him this season and maybe that you didn’t see last season? I think he’s playing super confident, uh, very aggressive, which I think he’s he’s that type of player. He needs to play like that. And, um, yeah, super happy obviously to to see him make steps forward and, um, hopefully we can do that tomorrow. Thank you. Thanks. Thank you everyone. We’ll see you tomorrow. Thanks.

PB5 needs to be up there
Paolo can't play fast, needs to work on it
slow it down and USE Paolo's drive. He gets the ball when the clock is already run down so he is forced to do fade aways. Give him the ball he's your main offence.
Took a time out with 20 secs left and the play we ran was give the ball to the 2 coldest players on the court Paolo and Bane to chuck up another shot. Why not draw up a play for Jalen or Franz who were having a great night. Why not use your challenge with 1:48 left in the game? Are you saving it for tomorrow? Coach needs to take some accountability too. Free throws were bad but they weren’t put in the best position to win.
This on Paolo and Mose
He won’t even take accountability for not getting paolo involved
The offense has changed but old habits die hard. When fatigue and pressure is on, we are seeing the old boring and forced offense.
when you win by thin margin, you can lose by thin
Coach let a 14 pt lead evaporate without calling a time out.
Franz was pissed so hard! 😊
Poor substitution choices. What has Tyus done to deserve his 20 minutes over Jase
Tough game but the team needs time to gel. We are going to look a lot different around Christmas.
PB needs to explain his bad 3pt shooting decision when there's still 10 seconds to go.
Magic aint winning a ring with Mosely. He is a nice guy and i know the players like him but he not a good coach. And P5 is still a kid so he is still inconsistent
Paolo sucks.
What’s the picks against the bulls Wagners been cashing me out ngl
Make some free throws and we win simple as that
FRANZ WAGNER EFFORT WASTED BECAUSE OF THIS PET5 .. FEELING MIGHTY IN MAGIC BUT TOTALLY SUCKS
Hope this turns into a positive and not a negative.. heads probably got to big and loss focus cuz how tf
Not one word about Paulo's horrible shot is crazy
It's early. Adversity will be necessary to build a championship caliber team over 82 games. They have too many tools to solve the problem and that may even slow down the process. But all good problems to have. The one worry i have for this team other then the obvious health consistency they hope to enjoy, is Coach Mose and his development. The team really needs to see an improvement in his game calling. His motivation and team building is off the charts, but floor general is not his forte. let's hope it wont be the weakness that kills them in the end.
Poor free throws and poor shot decision by Paolo
