Bijan Robinson & other Atlanta Falcons reflect on San Francisco 49ers matchup | Press Conference

Yeah. Uh, first off, you know, I want to give my heart to God always and just for the things that, you know, he let us do and give us opportunity to be out here and give us safe, but continue to always play for him and give him glory always. Uh, but the outing, yeah, it was it was tough. Um, you know, it was it was just some some self-inflicted wounds like we had to try to get back on track and um just, you know, we had to play we got to call a different game a little bit. Um, and credit to those guys. Like, you know, they they schemed up or not schemed, but like they stopped the run on some of the downs that we wanted to get going and um, you know, we were just trying to get back on track for for the game. What were they doing to slow down the run without, you know, Fred uh being off? Um, I mean, you know, they were just, you know, they they jet front team, a lot of pressure, a lot of pressures. Um, and you know, it was it’s mainly on us. Like we we we never make an excuse for, you know, another defense trying to stop us on the run game cuz that’s that’s the bread and butter. Um, so you know, for us, like we just got to go back and, you know, look at this game and, you know, look at the things that they did and, you know, we got we got to capitalize off of it and correct it um tomorrow or when we get back in the facility. So we so we just don’t have a performance like that again on on the run game. How do you stay patient in those moments when a defense is stopping the run? Yeah, just just keep on just chugging along. Um, you know, you never know what what what play like we can call another run and, you know, that that could be a big the big one or a big a big play. So, you just got to just keep on just doing your reads, looking at, you know, the what they’re giving you and, you know, make sure I continue to set up the old line’s blocks and, you know, do as much as I could. Um, but, you know, if it’s not work, if sometimes it’s not working, you just got to just keep on going. Um, and you know, sometimes it can just pop. And you know, obviously today it didn’t, but you know, for these next games, like that’s what we got to look forward to cuz that’s what going through your head in the moment, like just keep going. Like let it go, keep going. Absolutely. Like if that play didn’t work, then let’s let’s run let’s run another one. Um because you you I mean one one play might not work and the next play like the lanes are starting to open up and you know, shout out to the O line like those guys strain their butts off. Obviously it wasn’t the result that we wanted. um in and the loss, but you know, for us, like we’re all going to come back in in the run game meetings, like we’re going to see all that stuff and you know, we because we know that, you know, when our when the run game’s going, it’s just very hard to stop this offense. So, you know, that’s going to be our main thing this week. Given your relationship with Christian and also just like comparisons about your games, how much did you want to have a big performance tonight specifically? I mean obviously like just just being a competitor um you know it’s it’s always in me to you know want to you know compete with my with my peer and with Christian and I mean dude did outstanding today like very hard to stop and you know I give him so much credit like it’s just such a blessing watching a guy like that go and obviously for me like I got to you know just be better for my team and um you know he he did a great job for his so I got to be better for mine and you know I’m going to look at his performance I’m look at his game and then look back at mine Um but uh yeah, I mean for him like that’s that’s what he does. Like he he’s been doing it for a long time and you know for me like I got I got a lot of work to do. So all that you know blessed player in the NFL like that stuff is dead has always been I don’t listen to stuff like that but like for me I got to be the best player for this team. Um and I got to take it one day at a time and just trusting just trusting God and what what he has for the guys and myself and that’s how we’re going to be the best team that we can be. This may be way off topic, but did you wear the Iron Man earrings in honor of Jake? No, I I didn’t work as a guy, but uh I mean, shoot, that’s that could be a reason why. Well, we’ll start with 184, I guess, for anybody that that had any doubt. How How are you feeling this week? And how close did we come to an incredible streak coming to an end? Uh, feeling good, man. thankful um for the the staff here and uh everyone that kind of helped me get ready to go and um you know thought I had enough to go and get the job done today and you know that went well but the winning part definitely kills the mood of that but um no feel good and ready to get back next week and win. What were you feel? Just one other, you know, how you’re feeling question. What What were you dealing with? And they showed on NBC that the I don’t know, contraption, brace, whatever it was you were wearing. Just what did you have to do to be ready to go for this one? Yeah, just a the high ankle sprain and um just knew structurally it was good, but um just needed to will through it, you know, but uh yeah, they hooked me up with that brace and just kind of protect further damage and um you know, just getting used to playing with that. little bulky, but um yeah, just find a way to be out there. Just I got to be out there, man. But um no, it uh it was good to play and I’m glad I played the whole game and um didn’t make it worse, but you know, hard to feel good about it after losing. Offensively, what had been working the last couple that things were so successful that wasn’t there tonight? Yeah, I mean, just coming right out of it, it, you know, it felt like we were moving the ball. we’re getting down in the scoring position and something happens here or there and we don’t, you know, get a touchdown in the end zone. So, just find ways to execute all the way and finish these drives because we’re moving the ball well. We’re, you know, controlling the clock and um doing a lot of really good things. You know, we we just got to capitalize at the end and um you know, it’s hard to say exactly what it is. I mean, you know, it’s an execution thing. It’s one little thing here, one little thing there, and those little things add up and the more we execute. Um, like last week, it’s like, man, the results are there. So, it, you know, that’s part of the NFL, and you know, these guys are good. Every week’s a challenge. So, Darnell said he was seeing, you know, more man coverage on the outside in the past, more guys maybe going in the box to try to slow down the run game. Was that was that something you were seeing from your point of view? Um, hard to Yeah. generalize that. I I got to I got to break down the film and see exactly what happened. But um you know, it just felt like we had opportunities and um a lot of the time felt like we were moving the ball well. Not not a lot of three and outs or anything like that. It just uh you know, like I said, getting down there, we we got to capitalize and and put more points on the board. So that’s the that’s the easy answer coming right out of the game. But um you know, always stuff to improve. We’ll we’ll work it out. particularly after coming off such a big win last week. Does this feel more disappointing or or frustrating with you or Yeah, they any loss just sucks in general. But um yeah, you know, I I think that third quarter we went down and scored. It’s 13-10. It’s like all right, we’re going to take this thing over here and um just didn’t end up happening. Just weren’t able to execute. So, you know, we got all the pieces and the confidence and all that. We just got to go out there and get it done like we did last week and consistently do that and then we’re going to be the team we know we can be. How good was it to get back out there and how you feeling? Uh it feels good to be back out there. Very grateful, very blessed and um happy to be back. What you What’s going to be your biggest takeaway for the offense from this one? Uh I’m not sure. I felt like it was a pretty good game. Uh just got to go look at the film and see what went wrong. Um yeah. So, I know without the benefit of film, it’s tough to say, but is there anything that you can say that y’all saw on film that had been working the last couple wins that that maybe didn’t tonight? Uh, like I said, I’m not I’m not really sure. I was just in the in the game and um I’m not really sure yet. I just got to watch the film and see what happened. What’s the emotion after this one in a hard-fought game, prime time against a quality opponent? What’s the emotion in the locker room like afterward? Uh, it’s down, but you know, we just want to win. We want to win at the end of the day. We had a huge win last week and um uh we felt like we had the energy and the momentum to you know continue to uh build on that and uh we didn’t but it’s all good. We we got next week to you know to change things with you back in the fold. What’s it going to take for this offense to to get clicking to get to 100% and to put together that consistency y’all are always talking about? I feel like the offense is clicking very well. It’s just um I just want to be able to add to that and uh add the you know the deep threat that um that we’ve kind of already been doing with Drake and um some of the other guys. Uh so I feel like the offense has been doing very good throughout the past weeks and um I just want to be able to add to that. And does it seem from your perspective like San Francisco was keying on the running game, keying on Bejian especially what he’s been doing the past few weeks and do you feel like other teams are going to be doing that? Uh I mean you kind of kind of have to. Bejian’s very very good. So, um, uh, they gave us a lot more manto man than we thought we were going to get, but, um, which is you kind of have to do that to add some more guys in the box, but, um, uh, yeah, we’ll look at the film, see what happen, and move on from there. Is the priority at this point in the season to find consistency rather than maybe making things go to the next level? Um, yeah. I mean, it’s it’s it’s at the beginning of the season. You want to figure out like we obviously we know we’re very good at um running the ball. Um, so we got to figure out, you know, um, our consistency in the passing game of what’s our, you know, our our plays that we like to do to echo off the run game. So, that’s what we’ll do. So, it’s funny. I mean, I mean, just the nature of the position like I mean, you hate that Devon gets hurt and like he’s an awesome dude, awesome player and like it’s funny just the nature of the position like injuries happen and it was weird like there’s something that told me like I think it’s a God whisper or something like some reason I thought I was going to play and like I kept on just telling myself like I know that opportunity is going to come and so I felt like I was prepared. I mean it’s always hard to see without how you play without see watching the film and so I don’t want to answer that until I see the film. But I did feel like like there was a God whisperer. I just thought I was going to play. Did it feel like they were kind of attacking up the middle more once you came in? I mean, I think we just knew they were a running team. Like they’re a little more, I guess you could call it old school where they put the 21 personnel, the 22 personnel, and so they’re definitely a running team. And so, like I said earlier, like the biggest thing for us was stopping those mush yards. What was it like being on the opposite side of someone like Bjan Robinson with Christian McCaffrey just keep coming at y’all? Yeah, he’s definitely a great player and I mean he does a great job at just reading his blocks and so I think you could tell like he does a good job that and so you got to make sure you play super sound against him. What’s just the biggest takeaway from this one do you think for you guys? Yeah, I mean I think the biggest thing is just reload. I mean it’s a long season and there’s a lot of games left and so there’s got to reload there. And then the other thing like I mentioned earlier was uh this idea of just mush yards like you even if you make the contact it’s it’s a second and seven but if they’re able to push the pile to make it a second and five like that keeps them on track. So, we got to make sure that we’re able to prevent that going forward. Appreciate it. Appreciate it. What do you feel like is your biggest takeaway from this one? Um, I mean, obviously that wasn’t our best performance in terms of the defense as it stand. So, we just got to regroup, reload, get back to the drawing board and come back next week and take advantage of the next opportunity we had. Running back over there has been doing it for a very long time. McCaffrey, what what made him so difficult tonight? Uh it’s been a pretty good play for a long time. So we’re not surprised. We knew it was going to come out. We was just trying to uh minimize the most we possibly could today. So didn’t really do a good job of that. So he had a lot of uh mush mush yards. Uh so I think just a matter of getting back on the draw board. We talked a moment ago to JD. He steps in after playing one defensive snap all season and plays almost the entire game. What do you think of a young guy like that who’s able to step in after Dine goes down? Uh he made a lot of plays out there. I mean he had a couple good plays, couple TFLs. I think I mean talk about JD, never really worry about him. He’s one of those guy. He’s going to prepare no matter what’s asked of him. He’s going to come out there and be ready. So nobody was surprised of why he was able to do out there. On that last drive there was 12 men on the field and then on the third and 13 there was only 10 players on the field. Coach Morris just talked about that. I mean did you guys address that on the sideline? You talk about how that how those kind of things can happen? I think we just got to be better uh critical down. So, uh those are the type of situation we got to be on point. So, it’s just a matter of learning from our mistake and moving forward. And like you said, we we’ve seen what this defense is capable of. What are you going to want to take forward uh into the next weeks? Uh play our style. I think our time, our style kind of came out there today. So, it’s just a matter of playing our style the whole game. So, that’s that’s all it is. Nothing major.

  1. They knew what we wanted to do before we did it… We never incorporated a strong playaction to use their aggressiveness against them.

I dont understand why Zac Robinson is allowed to call a game when he doesn't know fundamental principles of offensive play calling. Make in game changes when it's not working…disguise your plays, if your TE is UNGUARDABLE, why stop throwing him the ball? Frustrating to watch…he's holding this team back.

  2. "offense is clicking". mooney is an idiot. falcons dont have any receivers with great route running and great hands. they have one or the other.

  3. Y'all better straighten up these crazy bishes out here having heart attacks. Y'all jus sad but we gotta hear from 1200 coaches and 5000 GM's when y'all don't win. They cheerleaders though when you do

  4. Everybody want to talk about fire Zack Robinson. But nobody want to talk about why Michael Penix is so inaccurate on simple throws. In the Carolina game when receivers are not that far away from him, and he's not even under pressure he was throwing the ball too high. In this game he was throwing the ball too low. Like to throw to Pitts for the screen, he had to bend over to catch the ball which completely disrupted the timing of that play. Or the throw to Casey Washington, Casey made an incredible catch going low, but he shouldn't have had to do that. And many other examples which I can't list right now. There were even times when Michael threw the ball to nobody on the field. On the intentional grounding play when he was asked about it in his post game interview, his response was he didn't know what happened. That's not a good response. I am patient because, I expect a first-time starting quarterback to have good games and bad games. But there's a lot of people who think that play calling would fix this. This is an accuracy issue. That needs to get fixed in practice.

  5. Players, your coaches owe each of you an apology. Zac Robinson, the highly paid millionaire who calls play for the entire offense of a NFL football team… the end zone is vertically down the field, not horizontal to the flat. Until the coaches take a page out of past winning coaches playbooks… this team will be fortunate to even be .500 at the end of the season.

  6. I just wanted to give a huge shoutout to the Falcons PR team — thank you for such an incredible experience! Getting to be on the field pregame and even walking away with an autograph was truly unforgettable. Everything was organized, welcoming, and made me feel like part of the team. You all made a lifelong fan’s day — thank you again for the amazing opportunity! 🏈❤️🖤 #RiseUp

  7. Coach Morris, I'm going to need you to stop smiling so much. I need you to have your game face on, which translate to your players. I need someone to inform Penix that he needs to figure out how to extend the plays, if that means run the ball, run the ball. Whenever he is stationary, it eliminates his options.

I need you to work with the offensive line.

I need you to work with your cornerbacks and safety. The Detroit Lions showed the world last night what a top tier defense looks like, their cornerbacks and safeties are the model. Ours should watch this film.

I am confident that we will play better. We definitely have the players to be unstoppable; the little mistakes add up to major problems.

When you watch the film, ask each cornerback and safety to explain their actions for each play. I record each game, and I am amazed that a player can play an entire game without making one play.
