I went to the game last night and got hyped enough to make a big-ass post about it! I’m gonna be honest, as a big pelicans pessimist, I loved this game throughout, even if I wasn’t happy with the result. It was a top-tier matchup, and if games with the spurs always go like this I’d call it a brand-new rivalry.
Ups:
-
Zion is looking like a brand new man this year. Not in the sense of his game, that’s as unstoppable as ever, but you can tell he wants it. He’s going for everything.
-
Our small-ball lineup was cooking! If we keep our shots smart, this level of ball movement can really put us ahead in the West. I can’t believe how hard we fleeced the Wizards.
-
Fears might have been this draft’s biggest steal. I could swear I was watching a modern-day Allen Iverson whenever the ball was in his hands. He’s the future of our franchise.
CALL-UPS

I hate to say it, but HERB! He was good on defense, but offensively last night he was just a total stinker. I’m sure that’ll work itself out in a few games, but it hurt to watch.

We need to start playing like we like having the lead. We’re a momentum-based team, and our momentum is so good when we come back from behind. Then we get up and totally crap the bed. It isn’t even a Willie problem at this point, we just need to fix it at every level.
-
Defensive spacing. It’s a problem. That’s it. It’s why we ended up going to OT and losing.
Anyways, this is the coolest young team I’ve seen in such a long time… super pumped for the rest of the year 🙂

The issue to me, is the roster, and we knew this going into the season. They NEED Jordan Poole to handle the ball, like if it’s not him it’s a 19yo rookie. That’s not a position you want to be in.
The positive tho is the rookies look legit, they’ll be positives soon.
Soooo you’re saying there’s a chance for the 10 seed or are you describing more of a high lottery pick, potentially number 1 overall that we ship off to the Hawks ?
Can’t wait to watch lots more of our teenage rookies play in crunch time this year, I guess?
Zion definitely looked extremely sharp to start the season
Defensively he has been a monster and he has been doing other things to help this team win
His intangibles is really showing, as well as his leadership
Proud of his growth, excited for what’s to come
One more, Trey has looked extremely average on both sides of the floor. His defense last night was flat out bad in the 4th. If he’s not a big plus on offense this teams ceiling is drastically lower.
He hasn’t been bad per se but the team needs more improvement.
It was nice to see when the team ran and moved the ball. Once we got stagnant it was painful to watch.
