BREWERS POSTCAST: Blake Snell DOMINATES Brewers | Dodgers Take NLCS Game 1 in Hard Fought Fashion
This is the Brewers Post Cast, your instant game reaction for the Milwaukee Brewers, part of the Locked On podcast network, your team every day. Couple mistakes for our Milwaukee Brewers tonight. Prove to be too costly against this Los Angeles Dodgers team and they fall in game one of the NLCS at American Family Field. This one tonight by a final score of 221. Hello everyone and welcome into the locked on Brewers postcast as always all season long. My name is Brandon Snide. You can follow me on xbrandon snive. Follow the podcast on Twitter, locked on Brewers. Lots to get to on a jam-packed postgame show. Blake Snell for the Dodgers. No secret tonight. Absolutely dominating the Brewers. We’ll talk about that. Two mistakes today that I want to point out today that prove to be too costly tonight for the Brewers. And they do fall. lose home field advantage quickly to these Dodgers as they fall in game one at American Family Field tonight by a final score of 2 to one. Let’s get into your scoring summary this evening brought to you by FanDuel and Monarch Money and two to one final guys. Not a lot of scoring today for the Brewers. Uh Pat Murphy going with an opener in this one. Aaron Ashby. I know that caught the attention of a lot of Brewers fans. A lot of Brewers fans not thrilled based on the things that we’d seen uh from Aaron Ashby in the NLDS. Proved to be the right move for the Milwaukee Brewers. He was great in inning number one. Shut down the Dodgers uh offense, albeit a walk in the first inning, but uh so did Blake Snell in this one on the other side for the Los Angeles Dodgers. This game was scoreless up until the sixth inning. And that’s when Freddy Freeman for the LA Dodgers 362 feet to right field. scraping the roof at American Family Field, sneaking in a home run there uh to give the Dodgers a one- nothing advantage. And at that point, Blake Snell for the Dodgers was absolutely lights out this evening. He was just a dynamite pitcher tonight. One of these performances that we’ll talk about, you know, for for years to come. I know they were talking about Roy Holidayiday’s performance in 2010, you know, the no hit uh the the television broadcast Brian Anderson and Ron Darling were talking about and and this was not far from it. Blake Snell was pulled after eight. He did face the minimum 10 strikeouts, a careerhigh for Blake Snell. He would get the the win this evening. And then things got a little interesting there in the uh in the ninth inning. The Brewers uh shutting him down in the seventh and the eighth as did the Dodgers. And the Brewers again, lots of opportunities uh you know for the Dodgers to score in this one. Lots of guys in scoring position, but the Brewers offense and defense thanks to Sal Frick out there in center field for the 862 double play earlier in the game which will also be something that we we talk about. But the Brewers, as we mentioned, started Ashby. Quinn Pier with four solid innings. He didn’t allow a run. Chad Patrick, who surrendered the Freddy Freeman home run, uh giving up a run there. That’s his first one of the postseason. Jared Kanan with an inning in two/3s of work. Trevor McIll with a clean inning. He didn’t uh allowed other than one hit, struck out one, didn’t allow any runs. And Abney Rebe to the ninth inning. That was the issue tonight for the Brewers. I know Freddy Freeman had the solo home run, but the ninth inning, the turning point, unfortunately tonight for the Brewers in a two to one loss. Time to reveal where the game was won or lost. It’s the turning point. At this point in the ninth inning, it was one to nothing. It felt like a lot because of the way the Brewers bats were completely silenced up until the bottom of the ninth. And we’ll talk about the bottom of the ninth here shortly. But the top of the ninth, the Dodgers got a handful of guys on base. They intentionally walked Otani to load the bases, hoping to to fetch a ground ball, hoping to to get out of that jam without allowing any runs. Abner coming in kind of giving up uh uh three walks today for Abnor Urebe. Is that the uh the leftovers from Saturday from a two inning save potentially right for Abner Urebe? Didn’t have his best stuff this evening. He allowed three uh three walks and a hit that would eventually load the bases and then he would walk in what would have been the deciding run in tonight’s ball game. He he walks in a run. He walked Mookie Betts that would score another run for the Dodgers. as the Brewers would come to bat in the bottom of the ninth down two to nothing. And opportunity for the Milwaukee Brewers uh was there. A walk from Isaac Collins, a Jake Bowers double, uh a Christian Yelichwalk, loading the bases, Jackson Trio with a sacrifice fly that would eventually get home a run for the Brewers. And he just missed trio that is I mean just missed what could have been the game uh winning home run there. Just a tick off the bat to right center. Deep enough to bring in a run for the Brewers. Their first one of the game in this one. And that would uh that would score Isaac Collins who walked earlier in the inning. And then Christian Yellow, bases loaded, Bryce Terrain. We saw a big at bat on Saturday for Brycy where he hit that that home run to give the Brewers an insurance run in the bottom of the seventh inning against the Cubs. Couldn’t come through for the Brewers in the bottom of ninth. Strand the bases loaded in the bottom half of the ninth and they fall tonight by a final score of two to one. Not the outcome any of us wanted. Not the outcome that any of us had hoped for. I will say quick game thoughts, you know, after the scoring summary. I do feel better about where this series is going after a loss because of what I saw tonight from from our Milwaukee Brewers and what I saw from our pitching staff. Right. Keep in mind, it’s nobody’s fault. The Brewers let this series against the Cubs go to five games. The Dodgers had an extra day off. They closed things out on Thursday or Friday, I believe, against the Phillies. So, they had an extra day or two of rest. Al although on on Saturday, they didn’t know where they were going if they were staying home or coming to Milwaukee. So, I guess they had that toh to play with. But, this Brewers team was there all game long, you guys. All game long today. this Brewers team. Yeah, not a ton of chances against Blake Snell, as we mentioned, and we’ll talk about Blake Snell, but they had an opportunity late in this game against a really, really, really good Dodger team. I know the Brewers are the best record in Major League Baseball. I don’t think it’s any secret that the Dodgers have the best talent, you know, together, you know, as a whole than anybody else in Major League Baseball. Certainly, that’s left in the postseason. And and the Brewers were right there step for step tonight with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Chad Patrick’s been fantastic all postseason long. One mistake, you know, a couple of miles per hour, uh, you know, lower on his fast ball than than he than we had seen in the past. Could that be something that was left over from Saturday as we saw Chad Patrick in a high leverage situation also on Saturday? It could be, but this is the postseason and you got to have your best stuff at the best time and and Chad Patrick allowing Freddy Freeman to get one over the uh the right field fence. That would uh that would prove to be, you know, the difference in the ball game. Obviously Adri walking home a run there in the in the top half of the ninth doesn’t help. Uh but the Brewers had a great opportunity in the bottom half of the ninth inning. And this is what October baseball is all about guys. These high leverage, high intense, you know, moments, these these October moments that we talk about, that we watch highlights on that we hear calls about like this. These are the moments that this team needs to do it. And we we’ve kind of seen it over the course of of the long season, right? like they’ve they’ve gone, you know, in spurts with runners in scoring position where it’s just not the best, you know, where where they have opportunities, you know, to bring home runs and to do, you know, damage in in big spots. And tonight just, you know, they were for one with runners in scoring position. They left the three guys there on base in the ninth inning. That that would be it, you know, but that was the opportunity right there for our Milwaukee Brewers. William Contreras also walked in that inning. I mentioned Christian Yelich, but uh you had the guys up at the plate that you wanted to have up. they just couldn’t get the job done. The player of the game coming up as well as the things you’ll be talking about tomorrow after the Brewers fall to the Dodgers in game one of the NLCS. This one by a final score of two to one. Blake Snell was fantastic. The Brewers had opportunities there late in the bottom half of the ninth inning. terrain striking out with the bases loaded and the Brew Crew falling two to one. Now looking at a must-win situation tomorrow at American Family Field with Freddy Peralta on the mound in game two. The Brewers do lose two to one. Not a lot of offense tonight. That is thanks to your locked on Brewers postcast player of the game. This is the locked on player of the game. His name already. I’m not really sure where this game would have gone without Blake Snell pitching for the Dodgers this evening. Was lights out. One of the best postseason performances I’ve seen in quite some time. Uh saw the minimum you guys through eight innings. Uh Caleb Durban with the only hit off of Blake Snell in this one. 10 strikeouts, a careerhigh uh in the in the postseason for Blake Snell. His offsp speed pitches were hitting. his fast balls were on on the spot. He was painting the corners. Uh he none of the Brewers uh player none of the offense players for the Brewers offense looked comfortable. I mean, none whatsoever. They were terrible at bats against Blake Snell. He had them, you know, very very uncomfortable, unsettled at the plate and he was absolutely dynamite uh from start to finish for this one. At one point he sat down 16 straight batters for the Brewers offense. I I was a little bit surprised. I know he was over a 100 pitches at this point. I I thought maybe Dave Roberts might leave him in there for the ninth and looking back at it, Dave Roberts had that came back and the Brewers would have won that game or at least tied that game probably would have uh would have uh you know gone back and and and wished that upon himself as well. But Blake Snell was absolutely fantastic tonight. An honorable mention tonight too for the Brewers bullpen, right? an honorable mention and I know the Brewers lost and I know the final score was two to one, but that’s a really good Dodger offense at there’s multiple Hall of Famers in that offense. The Brewers just had a game on uh Saturday evening and used a lot of those arms that we saw tonight. Chad Patrick being one of them who gave up the home run to Freddy Peralta. But that Brewers bullpen tonight was also really really well, you know, really good. Quinn Pester uh a clean four innings this evening. A bounce back from what we saw from his last start in game three against the Cubs at Wrigley Field. So, I thought Chad or excuse me, Quinn Per looked good. I I thought uh Aaron Ashby started the game off well. Obviously, you’d like to see a little bit better out of Abner giving up a hit and a couple of walks in the bottom half of the ninth inning, including walking in a run. But again, credit to this Brewers bullpen. They were needed in game five against the Chicago Cubs in a very large way. and the Brewers uh you know relied on them once again in this one because the bats still an issue tonight uh for the Milwaukee Brewers. But part of that is is you got to tip the cap to Blake Snell in this one. And I know that’s going to be tough to do especially in the postseason. The Brewers with only two hits. Blake Snell only gave up one of them uh and they fall in this one by a final score of two to one. Let’s get to it before we get to your thoughts. The things you’ll be talking about tomorrow after a 2 to1 loss. This is what you’ll be talking about. Kind of mentioned it at the beginning of the show. The Brewers losing quickly the home field advantage in the National League Championship Series by losing to the Dodgers tonight two to one. They now face a must-win in game two. And I know the series isn’t going to be over if they lose game two. I’m well aware that it’s the first one to four. But the way that the NLCS, the way that the championship series is now set up where it’s two games at home for the Brewers and then three in Los Angeles, you don’t want to have your backs really, really against the wall going to LA down, two games where the Dodgers have three games to win, two at their home turf. You don’t want that. Game two is a must win. There’s no doubt about it. There’s no other way around it. Game two is an absolute must-win. And part of that is you get Freddy Peralta on the mound tomorrow at American Family Field if this Brewers team is able to win game two. And I think most of us will agree it’s it’s a must-win. I still fully believe in this Brewers team to win a couple of games out there in LA and and get the series back to Milwaukee. You were never going to sweep the Dodgers. It was never going to be easy. The series was never going to be an easy one. uh today if it if if anything is a microcosm of what this series is going to be, right? It’s going to be you know a game of inches where you know have those opportunities and you got to capitalize them and the Brewers obviously on the short end of that tonight. But I still believe in this team. I still believe if they can get game two, get a victory behind Freddy Peralta, get those bats going, hopefully get that offense going, maybe something in the bottom of the ninth will get this offense going. I know it wasn’t a ton to show for Jake Powers with a really good at bat off the bench this evening. a ground rule double in the bottom half of the ninth. Maybe you see Jake Bowers, Isaac Collins with a a couple of pathetic uh at bats tonight for the Brewers offense, although had a nice play out there in left field uh this evening. But uh hopefully maybe that gets them going. Maybe it gets Yes. Am I looking at the glass half full? You’re absolutely right. Let’s let’s hope maybe going forward that this Brewers team, you know, this offense can get Freddy Palta, get him some runs early in this one and uh and and swing the momentum back in the Brewers favor uh and go out to LA with a 1-1 uh tied series. Now, keep in mind, this Brewers team did win three games out in LA out in July. And I understand that’s a long time ago, and it’s almost another season ago, but this Brewers team can win. And every time we’ve doubted them, guys, every time we’ve doubted them, they’ve been able to turn it around. I’m not doubting them right now. I I’ll probably doubt them if they lose to tomorrow and down 200, but tomorrow behind Freddy Peralta, the ace of your staff, the guy that’s anchored you all year long. It’s an absolute must-win game tomorrow for our Milwaukee Brewers. The Brewers do lose to the Dodgers two to one this evening in game one of the NLCS. Win, lose, or draw, guys. We’re going to get to your thoughts. We’re going to get your reactions, your concerns, and certainly, I’m sure there’s some frustrations on the live YouTube chat where we are live right now. Make sure you hit that subscribe button. Make sure you hit that thumbs up button. We begin with every day or Isaiah. Late walks will come back and haunt you every single time. It proved it again. A lot of walks today for the Brewers pitching staff on the back end. The the Brewers again uncharacteristic at bats. We saw it in against Chicago. um just not themselves today. Very uncomfortable at the plate. And again, give a lot of credit, right, to the Los Angeles Dodgers, right? Chad Patrick made one mistake to Freddy Freeman. Freddy Freeman, you know, made a heck of a play on a ball and and drove it out to the right field wall outfield, you know, outfield and with a home run and and you give credit where credit is due. Um but the Brewers overall, I still think from a pitching and defensive uh performance, we’re were completely fine. You just you got to get more out of your offense. Glory Days Sports Consulting over on YouTube. Everyone, you can’t take away how well Blakes Snell pitched. He quiets good hitters. I agree. The Brewers needed to get to work the count and stop swinging at bad pitches. They were chasing again. They just didn’t look comfortable. Um the strike zone was a little weird to begin. It was kind of up and down, you know, all game long, but it it did feel like uh you know, that the hitters were just they were unbalanced, you know, offbalance, whatever term you want to use. It just didn’t feel like a Brewers uh performance today at the plate as Ryan expressing some anger saying pathetic offense. This is what it’s going to be with this team. Little leaguers at the plate with our five six uh inch guys. Yeah, I mean yeah it it it’s a tough performance and I totally understand the frustrations. On the flip side of it, I Blake Snell was really good guys. Like there’s a reason he he gets paid the big dollars. He’s the reason he rolls out there as your game one starter. They announced Blake Snell I I believe on Sunday afternoon. Like they knew they were going right away with Blake Snell and and he’s a big-time pitcher for the reason you saw this evening. I mean, he’s he’s an anchor. You know, had some injuries this season. The Brewers haven’t faced him a ton and and and he had him uncomfortable at the plate. There’s no doubt about it. Um but, you know, sometimes when it comes to those things, you have to just give credit where credit is due. And tonight is just one of those nights, right? like Blake Snell was on one. The Brewers had an opportunity. They eventually get him out of that inning. Uh you know, the the Dodgers closer comes in. There’s an opportunity for this team to uh to tie or take the lead and and they just they fell a little bit short, right? they didn’t get uh you know the timely hitting that we’ve seen so many times that we saw in game three uh excuse me in game five against the Chicago Cubs where you know we had a couple of home runs and and and um you know were able to kind of have those big moments in that game and and and and a quick turnaround for this Brewers team uh which I like by the way like I I I do like uh that you know the Brewers did have a quick turnaround to hopefully keep some of that momentum um but they just couldn’t come through when when it needed as Jake points out. How do you not mention terrain moving out of the way of that pitch that would have tied the game? I know that’s going to be a big discussion. I know it’s a big thing. My phone’s blowing up with it. I understand understand it, but like your brain doesn’t tell you in that moment to to take that pitch, right? You’re reacting. And keep in mind from where that ball leaves the pitcher’s mound to the batter, you have less than a tenth of a second to process that. So, as soon as he sees that, it’s natural instinct for him to move out of the way. Now you and I I’m with you Jake because I’m sitting there screaming like take it like wear it like and I’m sure Bryce Terrain is also now telling himself like I should have stayed in there and worn it and that would have been obviously the the tying run and who knows what happens after that. Maybe the Brewers, you know, win the game, maybe it goes into extras and eventually they win, you know, later on, but who knows? But I I think in that moment it’s it’s a lot easier said than done. I completely agree with you. You know, it’s it’s one of those things where, you know, maybe, you know, you know, it’s something you prepare yourself for, but I don’t know if your reaction your you know, your your sight to your brain, you know, sending the signal to to either take that or or move out of the way. It just it happens so fast. Jason over on YouTube, pitching shows up clutch and everyone including Yelich can’t do anything. Yeah, it was a tough one for Christian Yellow. Did have a walk there in the bottom of the ninth inning, but there’s no uh sugar coating. Uh, it’s been a struggle for Christian Yelich. Not a whale over on YouTube. If an organization wants to market and capitalize waving and flying a W flag in order for other teams faces, you can handle losing and other people’s flying elf flags uh L flags in your faces. Hypocrites. Yeah, that brings us back to the Cubs discussion and I think we’ve all moved on now from the Chicago Cubs as they uh are out of the uh the postseason. And the Brewers obviously moving in to the NLCS, but they fall tonight to the LA Dodgers. Tip of the cap to Blake Snell gets locked on. Brewers postcast player of the game. Eight innings uh pitched for Blake Snell. Just one hit uh thanks to Caleb Durban, 10 strikeouts, and Blake Snell helping the Dodgers get the uh the one to nothing series lead over our Milwaukee Brewers. Freddy Peralta on the mound tomorrow. Hopefully he can uh can get the Brewers in the win column in this must-win game in my opinion in game two. Freddy Peralta hopefully bringing it home for our Milwaukee Brewers. And hopefully along with Freddy, the offense decides to show up in this one. Just two hits today in one run for our Milwaukee Brewers. A sack fly off the bat of Jackson Trio. The Brewers will definitely need more tomorrow. And as always, we’ll be ready to go after the final out is made. That’ll do it for tonight’s show. As always, thank you to each and every one of you guys. Thank you for making Locked on Brewers part of your day each and every day. The Milwaukee Brewers dropped Game 1 of the NLCS, falling 2–1 to the Los Angeles Dodgers on Monday night. Blake Snell was dominant, throwing seven scoreless innings while Milwaukee’s bats stayed quiet all evening. The Dodgers take a 1–0 lead in the best-of-seven series, with Game 2 set for Tuesday night.

I have a question that I need help with. I don't have cable so I have to watch the game via "theScore" app. I get no video of any plays, all's I get is pitched by pitch how fast they are where they're located and what happens when a veter makes contact and is on the basis. Also I get the calls in the "plays" page After about a 15 second delay.
How was the home plate umpire calling balls and strikes for Snell compared to the Brewers pitchers? Based on the apps pitch locator It did look like Snell was getting some really questionable calls and the Brewers pitchers were having strikes taken away from by the umpire. Again I could be very wrong but that's what the indicator showed.
Unfortunately I think there's a lot of pressure on Freddy, and the Brewers hitters need to give him some support and do it early!
I know Colin's had a good year for a rookie, but they need to have Bauers in the lineup and bench Collins and only use him when needed!
Stealing that game would have felt like an omen. Instead the other team deserved to win. Now go match Snell tomorrow Freddy!
Not going to win with only 2 hits!!!

Hey Brewer fans: Where’s your little yellow L flag tonight?
Looks like your team is flying the L flag tonight.
Dodgers LH hitters are looking forward to more RHP. Let’s go Blue!
HAHAHA
to everyone mad at Turang, he had less than 120 ms to gauge pitch. His instinct was to get out the way. Impossible to analyze what getting hit would mean and to execute it in that time. Unless you’re expecting it or are experienced in it, it would be impossible to do. Getting mad at people for not harming themselves so your sports team wins is an insane level of mental illness.
Fly the “L” flag!!! 😆
Was so sure it was going to be our day, but, even though 3 shaky pitchers were brilliant ( Ashby, Priester & Koenig) but 2 perfect guys were not (Patrick & Uribe).
That play by Frelick so so weird, going from a Grand Slam, to a 3 Run Double, to a Sac Fly to a double play.
If Perkins was in Center it would have been a sac fly because he is taller,
If there had been 2 outs it would have been a 3 Run Double,
Pretty much how things are going to go in this series, when the Dodger# have pitchers who make more money than our entire pitching staff. We have to find a way to get some hits, just plain and simple. Unfortunately we have seen this script before. Our margin of error is thin and our super star is zero in the last 16 at bats
The announcers and the umps all are on the Dodger payroll. So sickening to listen to the announcers gush about how good the Dodgers are
No discipline at playe 11 strike outs 9 of which swung at balls out of zone Turang pitch was different zip code
Bad luck with ground rule double
Do NOT allow ohtani to BAT during POST season!!!!
Let him pitch, but not bat!
He is 4-27, that is really BAD!!!
Does anyone have any idea where the Dodgers little celebration dance stems from? It looks a little "fruity" for lack of a better term. To each their own, but it kinda makes me cringe lol 😂
Tough loss for the Brew Crew. Woulda been a real swing to steal that game but I'm hoping they can bounce back tonight and make it an actual series. Both teams appear to be locked in so thats encouraging at least.
Yelich gotta wake up. Bro done basically nothing.
The fact is the Brewers got the gift of the century in the 4th inning and didn’t take advantage of it
Brutal loss. It may very well be the worst loss I've ever seen suffered in sports entertainment.
Go Dodgers!! 🫡. From Ło$ Ång£L£$🟦🟦🟦🟦
Is Yelich's back acting up? How many more bad contact choppers is he going to hit to the second baseman?
Brewers got the gift of the game in the 4th inning. This game shouldn’t have been as close.
Oh oh 2018 Flashbacks 😂 😂 I bet Yasiel Puig still haunts them 😂
“LLLLLLLLLL”
Dodgers 💙🩵💙
Take one for team u idiot
Brewers bullpen will get worn out by this Dodgers batting line up. Dodgers in 5
Dodgers in 5. They won’t score less than 2 runs the rest of the series. Team lifeless will struggle to score against these starters tho
Dodgers fan here. This could go a few ways. Yamamoto last outing a little shaky hut he has been nails all year. This game is must win for you guys. If you lose this you get fresh Ohtani and Glass in a low leverage start followed by Snell in LA. You’ll be lucky not to get swept. If you win tonight then this will be 6-7 game series any team can win. Good luck either way. Our bullpen is a big weakness that will be our downfall if you eliminate us.
Lost by 1 and could of easily been a win we will win game 2 and take game 3 come back to Milwaukee tied 2-2
Yamamoto struggles the most against teams who take disciplined at bats. If they can lay off his split then he HAS to have his curveball landing in the zone or Brewers have a real chance at getting to him. IF his curveball is landing in the zone then it'll be a tough go for the Brewers.
What a match up! This will be a crazy series, its early.
It really wasn't that close when Teo will give the opposing team at least ONE mistake to capitalize on (there was no reason for him to not reach home plate regardless if it was a sac fly or live ball) and you guys didn't.
He's feast or famine and we're stuck with him till at least this post-season.
fuck the people who want a player to get hit by a 90 something mile per hour ball. that's ridiculous.
Looks like the dodgers were trying to give this game away they should. Had Atless had 4 runs. They were Not doing the little things. Someone better had a talk to with Teocar about him not taging up or the rules of the game.
The way Snell has been pitching nobody is scoring on him
brew crew need to win one @ home with Peralta on the mound …not getting any easier on west coast
