Why Caleb Williams will take Chicago Bears to NFL Playoffs | Colin Cowherd Podcast
Welcome to the official YouTube channel for the Colin Coward podcast. Go on, hit that subscribe button if you’re new so you don’t miss any of our great football content this season. Okay, let’s go to Green Bay 27 over Arizona 23. So again, Jordan Love had a game-winning drive. You know, it’s interesting. Green Bay can’t really run. They’re not getting a great push on the offensive line. Uh Dobs, um Craft, and and Matthew Golden have been good targets for them. Christian Watson’s always hurt. I don’t feel like uh uh Jacobs quite has the pop this year. He’s had injuries. I don’t feel they run it. So, they’re very bad on third down. Uh they can’t extend drives, but and I and I listen, one of my bets of the week is I took Arizona in the points. I picked 28-24 Green Bay to win close and it was 2723. It looked a lot like I thought. Uh my take was Jacobe Brassette or Kyler Murray. Kyler’s the better athlete. Jacob’s probably better from the pocket. So, I think Arizona at home is tough. I thought they controlled most of the game. I think Trey McBride is a top three tight end in the sport. Yeah, Green Bay one, you know, they’re really young and I tend to like almost to a fault apologize for young teams. I really like Green Bay. I thought the big win for Green Bay today was Micah Parsons had three sacks. They got him for games like today. You score late, you need a sack. And Bill Poland taught me this years ago. If he said, “If you have a Pro Bowl level quarterback, you not only need a left tackle, you need a pass rusher. You’re going to lead 75% of your games with four minutes to go.” That’s where Dwight Freeny came in. Dwight Freeny closed. He was the Mariano Rivera to Pton Manning for years. And that’s what that’s what Mike is. Mike is the closer. And Green Bay, you know this, they haven’t had that closer on that line for years. Yeah, totally. I mean, he was a man amongst boys, especially down the stretch, you know, bringing him in fresh. To me, this is a game when you’re playing Jacobe who cannot move, which it’s kind of undeniable. The Cardinals look better offensively with him at quarterback with Kyler. They look way more efficient, but like he can’t move. And if you’re going to have one of the best passers in the league and you’re going to pay $200 million for a guy and give he’s got to dominate in this spot, and he did. You know, that was my beef early in the season against the Cowboys. Like, you’re spending all this money for this guy. He’s got to take over games. You’re you’re treating him like one of the all-time greats in the history of the league. And he and he showed that today. his speed coming around the edge, they they couldn’t touch him. But Quay Walker, all those guys, like the Packers gonna have to hang their hat on being an elite pass rushing team because offensively, if you you went back to last year, they start slow like they did it all last year, the majority, and this year he has 75 yards passing at halftime. It’s like, who are you guys playing? This isn’t this Arizona Cardinals defensively, they’re just the skill-wise, they’re just not that talented and they just can’t they couldn’t generate yards. And I get it, Josh Jacobs is I think he was sick. And you see that story yesterday, they were way late. They had like a six-hour delay. Yes. But it’s like from a talent standpoint, they just look so slow and lethargic. And they’ve done this now for two straight years. Uh I’m not as confident on them big picture. Like do I feel good about them just being in the NFC Championship game? But like their talent, their speed on offense, like you said. I mean, they got multiple wide receivers. The tight end’s good. The coaching staff’s good. And the talent on defense up front is just it should dominate an opponent like this. And and they get Jared Goff. They get some opponents that, you know, not everyone’s Caleb Williams can run around. Like Jacobe can’t move. So, he’s kind of a sitting duck back there. Yeah. He had at one point 14 straight completions. He was really comfortable. He’s looked good two weeks in a row, Colin. Yeah. No, I and I was thinking watching that game, I I kind of felt like, you know, I know what Jacobe Brassette is, but what he really is is a big strong kid who throws strikes down the field. He can see the field. How many of his completions were over the middle of the field? Kyler doesn’t give you that. It’s like Jaylen Herz today was great deep down the field, but you know, you’re not going to move off Kyler Murray for Brassette. But I I do think when you watch Jacobe Brassette, it’s I I can see that offensive coordinator saying we we really have an NFL big franchise sit in the pocket NFL quarterback and it allows you to do more. Marvin Harrison, by the way, is playing better. I think he’s there’s something there. He Yeah, you know, listen, it’s it’s tight ends and wide receivers. It’s not always a hit. They’re not all JSN. I mean, JSN now is so much better than he was. Ibuka is a rarity. JSN now year two, you’re like, “Wow.” But I I think I I want to I don’t want to rip Green Bay because I really do think Arizona’s got players. I really do think they have six or seven elite players. They’re very good at home. I just think Green Bay is a team that’s not getting a push on the offensive line, so they don’t extend drives. And they’re not very good early, so they often play from a hole. And I I just think this is kind of what they are. Well, Arizona’s two and five. They could be six and one. They literally could win every single game they play in, you know, and this goes from the beginning of the year. They they have lost some just devastating games. I was flipping around the volume and I I was on the uh Packer Cardinal game and Vilma mentioned something that I think the coaches had said, well, you know, Jacobe works with all the wide receivers after practice. And it was like, yes, what was that? What are they saying there? You know, I listen, they’re not going to win many games. The coaching staff’s in kind of peril now. Uh they’ve already fined the coach 100 grand for something that I thought was pretty innocuous. I mean, it’s stuff happens in high school football. This whole thing’s going to get blown up. I think the Kyler Murray era is like unofficially over. Like he’s going to end up playing more this year whenever he’s healthy, but this whole thing’s over. And this franchise, it’s kind of sad because they they’ve definitely kind of been close. They’ve had some talent, but it’s just it’s just not working out and they just can’t win any of these games. And I I think listen, they they went all in for Kyler, a 5 foot n athlete who just doesn’t really rally the troops clearly and there’s just something missing and I I think that you look at this game like they they just lose a lot of these games for year after year. They’re in so many games. The Jonathan Ganon, his record is not going to be very good, but I don’t view him as like some completely over his head failure. Same. All their games kind of look the same. I was like, you know, Green Bay is going to go there. They’re gonna have a lot of fans, but there’s I mean, Arizona Buddha Baker and McBride and they have good receivers and um their offensive line’s okay. I just I think my takeaway on this game is that’s why you got Micah. He’s your Mariano Rivera. He closed it. He just completely, you know, I mean, there’s just and the knock on Micah was always that he was a splash player in Dallas. That was kind of the knock on him is that he could disappear for quarters and he was real quiet in the first half, right? And Jacobe Brett was really comfortable. Uh Jacobe Brassette was, but when they needed him, he was great. Okay, this game it’s really interesting. So, Chicago Bears at home beat the Saints 26-4. Saints had four turnovers. Uh Chicago led 20 to6 at half. I mean, it’s like Chicago hired the right coach. Their defense is playing top tier football. Their run game now with adding those three interior offensive linemen, John, they can run the football. They are clearly a run team. Uh the passing game with Caleb was totally out of sync. Ben Johnson’s facial expression, it’s kind of resting, discouraged, like he just never, you know, you know, he knows he’s on TV and so he’s not eye rolling, but he looks exasperated sometimes with the passing game because there’s looks that Caleb just either doesn’t see or can’t connect. I don’t think Caleb is a naturally innately accurate thrower of the football, but the run game’s real. They’re playing poorly and winning in stretches. The defense has been outstanding. I mean, I think they came into the game with the most takeaways and they got four more turnovers. So, I look at it and I think to myself, they’re on a what are they on a four-game winning streak? I mean, they’re winning. They’re playing imperfectly. The passing game has moments. Caleb has firepower. He has moments, but it’s um what we thought would be the horsepower, the jet fuel has actually been the liability. Their passing game like I think Roma Dunay and Caleb had real connection in the first half and it just kind of felt like it just disappeared. It’s very uneven to me. To me, he had so many stretches today where it’s like that hero ball syndrome of him just running around sideline to sideline on pass plays. It’s like I I can’t imagine that’s not how Ben Johnson wants to play. But what did he do in I was thinking about this today. Mike Vrabel and Ben Johnson both being available in the same cycle. Like that’s a pretty good cycle. I mean I I I don’t think there was quite enough competition for both their services. You know, Ben Johnson’s one of the better offensive coordinator candidates in recent memory. You could argue he’s a better candidate at the time when he was available than Shawn McVey was at 31 years old than Kevin Oonnell was that I mean this guy was the number one play caller by a mile. He was given for three years. And then here’s where I give him a lot of credit. Like Dennis Allen’s proven he’s a really good defensive coordinator and he gave him the game ball. You know, I don’t know if you saw the highlights. Y listen, I also think that Spencer Rattler tried to like show that I’m better than Caleb Williams and he kind of crumbled in this game. I mean, made a couple passes that were like made Caleb look like Elway some of his decisions. But I I’m with you. I It’s not even just the passing game. It’s Caleb did not look comfortable today in the pocket. He takes off. He’s kind of got that older, you know, when Russell Wilson started kind of uh leaving his prime cuz he’s running around, but there’s no plays being made after he’s scrambling around. It was a lot of just 360s and running around. But if Swift’s going to look like that and their defense going to play like that, they’re going to be feisty. Now, can they beat Do I trust them to beat the Packers, the Lions in some of these games? I I don’t know if I go that far. You can’t operate like that from a passing standpoint. I mean, I’m I’m not trying to be negative because you win four games in a row. That’s a big deal in Chicago, but you got to be a little concerned with the quarterback and the way he’s playing really over the last couple games. He wasn’t that good last week against Washington and they got lucky that Jaden fumbled the ball or they lose that game. Here’s the here’s the upside. They did dominate time of possession. And again, so much like Detroit, they’re creative. They pick up first downs. Uh I mean, with Caleb, like 15 to 26, they’re not asking him to do a lot, but they’re dominating time of possession and they’re running the football. When they went and got Drew Dolman and Jonah Jackson and um who was the other kid? Um oh, Joe Tuni. You know, those were elite guys and we talked about this. You don’t play offensive linemen veterans in the preseason. So the first two or three weeks, you know, there your offensive line is all about chemistry and cohesion more than any single unit. Maybe the secondary, but it’s all about cohesion. Well, from about week three on, week four on, this has been a really good offensive line. They’re running the ball. They dominate dominate time of possession. So my take out of this thing is um you know, they’re winning and these are games they would have lost. And so when I watch a coach, there are limitations any coach has and it’s it’s like Shawn Payeyton, he’s he’s doing what he can with Bo Knicks, which is he second half they’re running more. Uh they’re often not very good early, but you can do only so much with what you have. But when I watch the Bears, I’d think this is a choppy, well coached team. Caleb’s right now learning the position, but it’s a whole new staff, new players. I do think he and Roman Dunay have a feel. There is something there that I think it’s good. Swift is a very good running back. I I I don’t know. I I think when you look at Chicago’s history, beating an a bad team at home when your quarterback’s uneven, you got to feel good about it driving home. Well, to me, you’re 4 and two. Like, you’re in position if you just kind of stay 500, you’re going to be in the wildard mix. Here’s the other thing. What’s going to translate for Chicago late in the season? It’s going to be cold. It’s going to be defense and running the ball. I’m looking at their schedule. They got the Lions last game of the season at home. That’s outside. Green Bay at home outside. Uh you got the the Browns at at uh Green Bay at Philadelphia. I mean, these are cold inclement weather games. You’re you’re not going to throw probably in some of these windy situations, rain, snow, sleet, who knows? You’re not going to be throwing for 300 yards anyway. So if you got Swift, give you a 100 plus yards. Ben Johnson’s excellent with running backs. I mean, that was a huge thing that he hung his hat on in Detroit. And if Dennis Allen could get because they’re missing DBs, that’s the other thing. Like Jaylen Johnson’s out for the season. He’s like, you know, a borderline allp prolevel guy. So their DBs today were I mean some of the passes were awful, but they were their DBs made a couple just incredible plays. So yeah, Bayer made a big pick. Here’s the other thing. Remember last year they scored 27 points in the first quarter all year. Once again this week they took a 13- nothing lead. So again that is a huge step John. Last year they could not score in the first. So I think as of now I don’t know what the number is. They scored 27 first quarter points last year. I’m not sure. I mean I think they’re now almost at 40 points for the year and we’re a third through the season. So if you just look at run game improved functionality first quarter improved defense you can see the plan when you watch them play. You can see the plan. And for the record, Caleb is better than last year. The other thing about Caleb that’s interesting, and I thought about this today with Spencer Rattler, for all the misgivings you and I may have or questions about Caleb, you ever notice this, John? He doesn’t throw a lot of picks. He didn’t at USC. He only threw six last year in total chaos and dysfunction. He He may drive you nuts, but he doesn’t throw a lot of interceptions. He’s just he he misses open guys, but he doesn’t throw it to the other team much. And this gets back I I think hiring Ben Johnson, we said it for so many times with the Chargers when they had these really good teams and they would hire Mike McCoy or Brandon Saley, they went cheap. Finally, you get Jim Harbaugh, it’s like, okay, now you have a chance. for the first time in Beerus modern day history like they spent huge money on a real guy that every other team would want and it’s it’s paying dividends right now because I’m with you like you know if anyone can just corral and fix some of these pocket deficiencies with Caleb and I also just think it gets back to sometimes smaller guys harder to see so part of like why did Russell scramble around a lot because he probably couldn’t see anything he scrambled he got outside the tackle box he could see Caleb does it too and like you said he’s not doing as many hero balls across his body to the other team. That That’s a win in itself. [Music]

Oh ok today is Wednesday. Herd likes Caleb today.
Oh come on. I am a Bear fan but am realistic. The Bears will finish the season 8-9. At best 9-8 but could also be 7-10.
Nowhere in the passing game analysis is there any mention of drops. Over the past 2 games in particular, 1-2 key drops are actually caught, and the Caleb is struggling narrative completely goes away. The film is different than just the boxscore.
I have said just like Colin you need a HC and a QB, the Bears have their HC B. Johnson unfortunately C. Williams is Not the QB can't read D's and the accuracy is a major issue.
Colin “whichever way the wind blows” Cowherd. This guy doesn’t know who to glaze, so he glazes wide as a catch all.
This is fake AI. He’s not really talking to Colin Cowherd. Look closely.
Colin, you can’t even say odunze’s name correctly showing that you do not watch games with the bears! So stop your BS on them for the sake of of ignorance! So annoying with your 20 mins takes on something you don’t have a full grasp of knowledge on.
Colin Coward go,s ware the winn blows talking bad about one then praises them the next we know he's got to fill timeon air all the announcers always go with the wind blows bla bla bla
Man… Odunze is "Oh-DUNE-zay" — why does he keep insisting on pronouncing it "Oh-done-zee"?
As Steelers fan when Colin said “Green Bay can’t really run” my heart dropped. I just have a feeling they’ll look like one of the better running teams in the league this Sunday. We do decent against average running teams but we’re like a get right game for teams struggling to run, i.e. the Bengals
Caleb absolutely sucks
Who's the other kid
Oh joe tuney!
Bears don’t choke in fourth quarter against Vikings…..5-1 would be #1 in NFC….. getting better every game 🐻⬇️
The o line and defense will take them to the playoffs Caleb will make sure they are one and done lol
Caleb was bad against Washington? Absent that horrible call that took away Odunze’s TD Caleb would’ve been over 300 yards/3TDs/0INTs. Tf is people watching?
I love it when people point out everything the Bears can do better. The Bears are 4-2, while people acknowledge there's room for improvement. If they were 2-4 saying that, then I would be worried, but if the Bears are winning games while at the same time not playing up to their full capability, that shows how good this team can be moving forward. Maybe it's not even this year, but the Bears have a lot of pieces in place to make them a great team.
Johnson will take us to the playoffs despite Williams
What Is THIS OTHER GUY TALKING ABOUT? COLIN TAKE THIS DUDE MIC!!
Wasn't Colin out on the Bears after week 2???
Yeah, this opinion will change come Sunday night, when Lamar and Henry have the game of their lives, 500 and 200, respectively. I know we won 4 on the spin, but they were against every poor and average team. The Dallas game looks good on the surface but the next 3 we only score 76 points and 40 of those were off the boot. The +9 turnover differential helps, but still needed a last-second FG and a last-minute FG block to win 2 of those, and the other was against the worst team in the NFC where we won by 12 and had 14 points off the boot. We're a house of cards waiting to fall down.
You are giving me whiplash with the Caleb takes
So how was Ben feeling when the run game wasn’t working Colin? Caleb will come along.
Rome Oh-DOON-Zay. It's not hard for my 7 year old nephew Colin
we whr concerned when Troy went 0-11 rookie season and 2nd yr 7-9 go back check , we whr concerned with Josh Allen his first few yrs ! STOP IT let him learn the offense. just like anything else
Caleb was three completed passes away from 70% completion percentage and a completely different look on the passing game. It's much closer than people think. Give Caleb a full year with Johnson and we're having a much different conversation.
Caleb this Caleb that. It's non stop with the media. They won four in a row thats all that matters
Bears would be 0-7 with Justin Fields. Don’t underestimate Caleb
There's a lot of development to be done before Bears hit that 2nd half. They really need DL help to be a serious playoff team and Caleb to take big steps. Just being honest. Add Maxx Crosby and Caleb snaps out. Eagles and Detroit are f****. KC is f*****. Could use a NT as well.
I don't think we have the team this year. The media do anything for views. We'll see.
It could happen and I do like caleb a lot but this offense needs to tighten up it’s operation in the redzone
He wasn't a good quarterback but now he is a good quarterback. This doesn't make any sense. Caleb is definitely not taking us to the playoffs.
I understand you have to make content for your channel but these dudes are just “the talking points kings”. Like this video would be cool if it weren’t for the fact that Colin has literally been picking against the Bears every week now but you would never know it by watching this video. I kinda wish he would’ve kept that same energy bc if the Bears lose, he’s gonna jump back off that wagon faster than how buddy on the right was switching up his takes. I still don’t know what sides he’s on.
colin two weeks ago you said caleb and the bears sucked. this is why people make fun of you
