Dallas Cowboys vs. Denver Broncos: Injury News, Matchups & Players To Watch | NFL Week 8 Preview
Before [Music] we preview Cowboys versus Broncos, the most comments on today’s video gets a free raffle entry. Let me know whatever you want to spam, see, win, whatever it is. The most comments on today’s show get the free raffle entry. Dallas on the road in Denver in what is almost a nationally televised game. The afternoon window kind of stinks. It’s like a couple one- win teams and then the Cowboys Broncos are playing which is going to be an interesting matchup there. Dallas is the underdog but not by a lot in this one which certainly is worth monitoring. The Cowboys injury report what to monitor and again as note we’re filming this on our Thursday live show. will know what the actual answers are by the time the video goes out. It’ll be in the comments and the description the full like in injury report finalists there. Um Trayvon Diggs I would lean towards not playing with his concussion. You we’ll see a lot of times that recovery is closer to 10 days which would not put him back in time for Sunday. Was in the protocol still as of Thursday. Cooper BB and his ankle may or may not be brought back from IR. I think we’ll know more later in the week. Donovan Wilson has been managing his injuries. Kenny Clark as well. Uh, should be fine. Marshon Neland missed last week with the ankle. We’ll see about his status. Tyler Smith, again, they’re kind of managing his knee issue, but he should be fine. Denver’s injury report is pretty much empty. Uh, Jonah Ellis missed last week, but was upgraded to limited in the middle part of the week. So, would not be surprised if he is back out there for the Denver Broncos. So, mostly healthy for both sides in this one. Let’s talk matchups to watch here. Number one is, and I could have gone the entire receiving core against the entire Broncos secondary cuz you got an elite duo and George Pickkins and CD Lamb and Riley Moss has played really good football for Denver as a corner as well. But I wanted to go with who does Patrick Certan follow? Does he go on the slot? Does he stick on the outside no matter what? Does he shade and follow uh CD Lamb around? Do they because they have Pickkins and given the play styles, maybe they think he’s a slightly better match against Pickkins and they try to like take away Pickkins with Certan and do some uh shade coverage stuff with like Riley Moss and you know rotate a safety and a linebacker against Lamb. You know, who does does Jaquan McMillan stay in the slot and get Lamb? Like it it Certain’s awesome. This is one of if not I think he is the best corner in football. Eight pass breakups against 16 completions allowed. It’s a 50/50 chance. He’s going to break it up by himself or you will catch it. Let alone not catchable balls because there’s no window. He doesn’t get thrown at very much. He didn’t get thrown at against the Giants. Didn’t or didn’t allow a catch. He is a elite elite corner. So, what is your confidence level in the Cowboys beating the Broncos? Scale it for me from 1 to 10. One on the low end, 10 on the high end. Matchup to watch number two that is there’s a lot of ways I could have gone with this but I’m just doing in general the pass defense for the Dallas Cowboys against Bicks and the 2025 stats I use these uh summer sports data here man coverage for Bicks and zone coverage for Bonix not including scrambles and stuff like that just pure drop back passes uh higher completion rate against zone coverage way more yards but he’s had more chances teams typically run zone against Denver, but the yards per attempt are startling here. 5.8 against 7.0. And when we’re talking in terms of the volume of attempts here, uh, for Boone Knicks and the Broncos, we’re talking 61 against man, 95 against zone. The touchdowns are 5 to six, interceptions are three to one. Uh, you know, he had Matt Rafuss out there saying, you know, we ran man against commanders. It was the right thing to do against against the Commanders. May have been like a coaching speak of like, we’re not going to tell you we’re going to run each week. like we did last week essentially. I do think you see a decent amount of zone again this week. I think given what Bo Nick struggles with, make him read it out. I don’t think he’s as good as some of the other quarterbacks you’ll face this year are. Also of note, what Denver does downfield. This is a quick passing offense. Uh in some ways, you wonder how much Shawn Peyton trusts Bo Knicks out there. Under 10 yard passing, Bo Knicks has the second most attempts, only completing 71.4% of those plays. He is fifth in yards, but he’s 21st in yards per attempt. There have been some big after catch plays involved here. Six touchdowns, zero interceptions, but only around league average in terms of the EPA per play. His air yards per attempt under 10 yards is 1.3. That is the second lowest in the NFL. There will be screens and there will be many of them against the Dallas Cowboys. 10 to 19 the intermediate area of the field. some league average numbers in terms of volume, but again kind of below average here overall. He’s 16th in attempts, but below average completion and accuracy rates and 15th in yards, but 23rd in yards per attempt. A little high in the touchdowns, by the way, or a little low touchdowns, high on the interceptions. Worth noting. EPA play again is not that great. And Denver hasn’t had many successes with the uh deep ball either. 20 plus yard attempts. Bo Nicks is 25th 25 attempts. That’s eighth most. He’s completing 24% of them. He is 28th in yards per attempt. Two touchdowns, one interception. The Broncos are losing yards per attempt when Bo Knicks takes vertical shots downfield because they are not completing throws. These 27th and EPA per play. Don’t let this be the week where Bo Knicks in the deep passing game gets going like they like the Panthers did with Bryce Young. Numbers aren’t that different. do not let them get those big chunk plays to probably a few diversity, but one we’ll talk about here in a second. But first, today’s show is made possible by prize picks. You and I make decisions every day, but on prize picks, being right can get you paid. Don’t miss any of the excitement this football season on prize picks where it is good to be right. It is simple to play. You pick more or less on at least two player stats. You get your pick right, you could cash in. It is the only app that offers stacks. to pick the same up to three times in the same lineup. You can pick more than on say Dak Prescott passing yards and passing TDs. We did one of those on producer Aiden’s flex play which is you can get three out of four right and still cash in. Went with Sutton and Lamb receiving yards. More on Sutton in a minute. Dak Prescott more than passed and Javon Williams revenge game more than 15 and a half yards on the or for 15 and a half temps, excuse me. Download the prize picks app today and use code CLNS to get $50 in lineups after you play your first $5 lineup. That’s code CLNS to get 50 bucks in lineups after you play your first $5 lineup. Prize picks. It’s good to be right. Links in the comments section and the description of today’s show. That’s prizepix.com/ns and use code cls. Matchup number three. Is it Don Bland? Is it Kyrie? Who covers Courtland Sutton? Denver’s go-to number one wide receiver who does a bit of everything for this Dallas or for this Denver Broncos team. 33 catches, 469 yards on the season. Three touchdowns. He has been more reliable, more impactful than Troy Franklin. Marvin Mims still kind of feels like Denver is missing one other corner. Uh, Diggs’s size would be nice against him, but I don’t know if he’s going to go. Are they going to put Bland in the slot? I’m very curious if it’s zone. Is he in the slot? I’m very curious what what Dallas does to kind of try to cover those Broncos wide receivers. We mentioned on our earlier week preview that Denver blitzes a pretty decently high rate. Will they do that against Dak Prescott? Historically speaking, teams don’t like blitzing Dak. Now, he’s faced a decent amount of drop backs against the Blitz. He’s also dropped back more than most quarterbacks. So, that is an asterisk there. Seventh the completion rate, fifth in complete percentage over expectation. That’s CPOE based on like drops and down in distance and tight window throws. He’s been very accurate. Eighth in yards, 17th in yards per attempt. There’s a lot of short quick passes there. You take out the Bears game, these numbers are all easily top five. He Dennis Allen had his way with the Cowboys that game. five TDs, one interception, top nine in EPA per play. Despite being fifth in drop backs, only 13th in sacks, he hasn’t taken very many of those. He has been very, very good against the Blitz. I am curious if Denver and Vance Joseph bring more pressure in this one for a very blitz happy team. Of the two quarterbacks, who is better right now? DP for Dak Prescott, BN for Bo Nicks. Let me know in the comments section of today’s show. DP or BN matchup to watch run defense against the run offense for both teams. Denver will run the football. They have been a fairly run-happy team led by JK Dobbins averaging a smooth five yards per carry this year. Haven’t seen a ton of RJ Harvey. He had the one nice game uh with the receiving catch late, but Dobbins has been the focal back in Denver. He’s averaging five yards per carry. You know, it’s funny. Dallas very happy that the the uh the Broncos, Zucko, Jvonte Williams. I think Denver is very happy in what they have in JK Dobbins. Both sides kind of won uh their running back shuffle there. Cowboys have to be be better against the run just like they were against uh the Commanders last week. They did a great job shutting down Bill Crosky Merritt, but overall this year has not been very good. 30th in yards per game, 26th in yards per carry, 30th in explosive runs. They do need to be better. Uh the stuff rates the wrong way. A lot of these numbers are not very good. They’re going to have to show up and come correct against a good Denver run game. Players to watch. Number five, how about Cavante Turpin? You know, Mile High Stadium. He was kind of limited last week. Uh didn’t play the full amount of snaps think we normally expect there. I’m curious what return looks he gets. Did the Cowboys get him a heavier workload? I think Shy kind of alluded to it though. The play sheet, the play sheet for the guys. You’re you’re going to the lamb one first. you’re going to the the pickings one second. There’s not as many chances to get Cavante Turbin the ball because you’ve got better receivers in front of him. I am curious now that he’s probably more healthy and might not be on big of of of a pitch count. How involved is he in this one? Who scores the first TD for the Cowboys? Let me know in the comments section of today’s show who scores that first touch. Now, it was Javvante Williams last week. Do they once again go back to the uh Javvante Wales somebody else time around? Let me know in the comments of today’s show. Number four, Osa Odigizua. I’m waiting for better play from him. Not that he’s been terrible, although I don’t think he’s been good against the run. I think both he and Kenny Clark had a couple rough games in a row uh you know in week uh weeks uh five and week six. The pressure rates remain high. I do think he misses having a legitimate game changer near him. uh alongside, you know, allowing him to not have him be the focal point of the pass rush there. I just haven’t seen enough yet out of Odigizua. I think Denver’s interior of the offensive line is probably their weak point. Um you I think he’s seen really good play out of out of frankly Derek BS and some good play from Mike Mlin. I don’t think Luke Watenberg is as good. Ben Powers is solid. I would like to see the Cowboys win up front in this one. If you have not already, make sure you guys are subscribed. We will be live for Cowboys versus Broncos. Will be live hour 45ish before kickoff. So, make sure you’re subbed. YouTube.com/cowboystv. Number three is Kenneth Murray. I thought he was better last week. There were still some moments of ah it wasn’t as good as I would have liked, but there were some good plays, some good moments out of Kenneth Murray. He has to do it again. That’s always been his issue. He’ll have a game or two that looks great and then kind of fades and then, you know, a a drive. He looks incredible and then fades away and then, you know, looks good for two drives and then struggles. I need a good game from Kenneth Murray because they will try to get the ball to the running backs and the tight ends plenty. He’s got to show up. Number two is fun for me. I can’t I can’t I’m doing this. I’m doing it. How about Brandon Aubrey? Is this the week that we finally let Brandon Aubrey try a 70 yard field goal? He can He can do it there. I have no doubts he has it in him. You know, 66 yards is the current record. He’s a yard shy. He did it last year for for for uh for the Cowboys. It’s mile high stadium. The air is or the ball will go further. I think he can hit it from 70. that whatever one he tried last week, the 63 61 yard was good from 70 and it wasn’t even in doubt it was good from 70. I want to let him try as long as it doesn’t kill the game. Let him try a 70 yard field goal. He can do it. I want him to have the the high mark. So, will happen. I’m shooting my shot early. I wish I wish I could get uh I’m just going to call my shot early. Why for yes, N for no? Will he try the record long field goal this week? gonna cheat at number one. Two players, it’s the tackles, Tyler Gton and Terrence Steel. And this is a very tough matchup. I think underrated tough matchup for both of these guys. Nick Bonito is not a household name necessarily say like a Max Crosby, a Micah Parsons, a Trey Hendrickson, a um TJ Watt, Miles Gared. He’s awesome. He is a legitimate dynamic pass rusher. He is among the NFL’s league leader in sacks. So too is Jonathan Cooper. They don’t flip sides. Denver’s edge rushers. It’ll be Nick Bonito against Tyler Gayton and Jonathan Cooper against Terrence Steel. The Cowboys have done a good job as a team of Dak getting the ball out just in time. I am curious how much help they’re going to give. They haven’t done that much chipping. They’ve kind of put them on an island more than you might expect. Those two guys have to have a good game or it’s going to be tough for your offense to move the ball on the ground and of course through the air. [Music]
