Caleb Williams MUST BE BETTER! | Chicago Bears Week 8 Reaction
All right, now that it’s been a few hours, I want to hear from Bears fans. Who do you blame for the Bears 30-6 loss to the Ravens? Let us know in the comment section. More thoughts after the Bears four-game losing winning streak has come to an end. I’m Harrison Graham. This is Chicago Bears. Now, I’ve got more analysis and some big picture takes from the Bears. 30-6 loss to the Ravens. You know, when we’re doing it live, it’s kind of just in the moment type of reaction. Don’t kind of get to absorb everything. So, now that it’s been a few hours, I wanted to hop back on the mic and do another episode here. Uh, let’s talk Caleb Williams here as we dive a little further into what happened uh today. You know, the raw statline is really not too bad, right? I mean, 25 of 38, 285. Um, had a nice 22- yard scramble at the end of the first half, but that interception was a backb breakaker. It It just was um you know, you cut it to three, they pin you back inside your five. I said it before the play, maybe you dial up a playaction shot, but instead it was kind of a a just throw over the middle, a dig to Rome, and you know, it it could have been completed. I thought he had a, you know, maybe a quarter of a step, but I thought he threw it a little late and it wasn’t pinpoint accuracy. Uh, and Nate Wiggins was able to jump it. Caleb was asked after the game what happened on that interception. He said, “Yeah, it was a good read. Rome manto man with the guy that caught the pick. I just didn’t give a good ball to Rome.” Ben Johnson was asked and remember they haven’t seen the film or anything after this. He said, “Yeah, I didn’t quite see. I would have to check it out on film just one more time. Just in my mind, there might have been another option that we could have gotten to. I have seen the play again. He could have gone to Kyle Manunga in the flat uh that was there. And I think in that situation, look, I get Rome’s your guy. If you’re two things, if you’re going to throw it, it’s got to be a tick earlier. It’s got to be a tick earlier, more like when he’s coming out of his break than, you know, deeper on the route cuz it was one of those where he was going to have to rifle it in there perfectly and, you know, it kind of just threw not a floater, but just kind of a normal speed ball and Wiggins made a great play and jumped it. Uh, so I do want to give him credit. But number two, I think backed up like that, I don’t mind a play action shot, but I think in, you know, when I when I say a shot play, I’m talking about like a post or a D, you know, a go route, something like that. I think attacking the middle of the field in that situation backed up is pretty risky. If it’s decent coverage, which clearly it was, I I think in that spot, if Rome’s your primary read and it it’s not there, it’s not wide open, you got to get back to your running back. And I actually thought Caleb did a good job of getting back to the checkdown today a few times. That was something we criticized him for last week. But the bottom line is you can’t take you can’t say, “Well, he was good outside of that play.” every play matters and I did think for the most part he was better in this game when he was last week, but in general he has to be better. Now, I’m not going to be like some of the people in the comments saying, “Bencham, he sucks. Play Tyson.” Uh, we got to see this play out a lot more. Uh, cuz to me, when you make that move, it’s pretty difficult to come back from. So, I I’m a far way off from that. This team had won four in a row coming into today. Not a great day, not ideal. But, um, I can also sit here and say that he needs to be better. When you’re decimated on defense, you got to put up more than 16 points. And you know, there’s plenty of blame to go around. This game isn’t just about Caleb. I thought the Ravens won in all three phases, but uh you needed your quarterback uh to be better today. Can’t throw that interception. Left a few other plays out there. Uh it’s just got to be better and uh it’s frustrating that uh you didn’t get better from 18 today. All right, we will be live tomorrow for Overreaction Monday at 4:00 Central time. We’ll also have an episode up on the channel in the morning. So, plenty to discuss, more from this game. Looking ahead to Cincinnati, I’m sure some trade buzz. Uh, so a lot to get to here on Chicago Bears now. So, hit that subscribe button. The content never stops here on this channel. Okay, number two. Is it time to trade for a quarterback? Uh, we briefly mentioned this in the postgame show, but I want to dive a little bit deeper. I thought Tyler Huntley for the majority of this game looked very comfortable and was just carving your secondary up. Now, I thought Todd Monkin had a good game plan, some quick throws, some boots. Uh guys were just getting open and some of that’s the game plan. Some of that though is you’re playing Nan Wright, Jaylen Jones, and Nick McCloud. And look, Nan Wright when he’s been like your second outside corner and your third overall corner, you can live with that. when he’s your clear CB1, not just CB1, clear CB-1, that’s a problem. And Jaylen Jones, who to my knowledge hadn’t taken a single snap on defense all year, that’s a big ask. And Nick Mloud has not been good hardly at all. You know, I gave him credit the first month of the year for at least scrapping a little bit, but he’s just not a starting caliber corner. You got three deep backups for sure, too, in Jaylen Jones and Nick Mloud. Nan Wright has done some good things, but that’s just you’re not going to win many games with that unit out there. Now, the question is, okay, a couple things. One, when’s Tyreek coming back? Is he back this week? Is if he is okay, maybe you hold off. If he’s not, you don’t want to make a panic trade either because that’s kind of the potential dilemma here. What you don’t want to do is trade a real asset, which is what I would call a fifth or more. or if it’s a sixth or a seventh or a pick swap, even if it doesn’t pay off to some playoff run or something, not the end of the world. But pick up a fifth or a fourth and like you know th this team kind of uh doesn’t have a great year the rest of the way. Um you’d rather not give that up. So I think that’s kind of the dilemma and after losing this game. Had you won this game uh with the clear corner issues, it’d be easier to pull the trigger be like, “Hey, we’re five and two. We got to go. We got to make a move and sh up that back end a little bit more.” So, uh, it is a little bit of a tough call. A couple more thoughts, including some names to monitor at Corner, uh, after we tell you guys about our sponsor. That, of course, is Prize Picks. Daily Fantasy made easy at prizepix.com/cls. You and I make decisions every day, but being right on prize picks can get you paid. Don’t miss any of the excitement this season on Prize Picks, where it’s good to be right. I’m on a cold streak, but when you get up $600, uh, you can afford one of those. is we’re going to get back on the saddle after I lost a two-player lineup earlier today. The way price fix works is simple. You pick more or less on player stat projections on a two on two to six player lineups. And if you hit, you win money. Some lineups you can turn into 2,000 times your entry. That’s right. $10 can turn into 20,000 with prize picks. Little two-player lineup I like for Monday’s action. I’ll take more on Marcus Mariota’s longest rush. 11 and a half yards. He’s starting for the injured Jaden Daniels. Uh Rasheed Rice more than 66 and a half receiving yards. They were peppering him in his first game back. You would think that’s going to continue uh for Kansas City and Mahomes and those boys. So $20 lineup to win 60 bucks. Standard two player entry right there. Uh get started right now with prize picks. Download the app today. Use our code CLNS to get $50 in lineups after you play your first $5 lineup. That is code CLNS to get $50 in lineups after you play your first $5 lineup. prize picks. It’s good to be right. Back to this quarterback discussion. It’s a tough thing because again, big picture, you don’t want to necessarily give up an asset if it’s for like a rental or something like that. But on the flip side, if you’re trying to, you know, make a make a push this season, you got Jamar Chase and T. Higgins lurking next week. And I can hear it now. They lost to the Jets. Yeah, they also put up 38 points. Like that’s going to be a tough game on the road. It just is. If you don’t think it is, I don’t know what to tell you. Like Jamar Chase, T. Higgins against Nan Wright, Nick McCloud, and Josh Blackwell, and Jaylen Jones. That’s a problem. Like that that that is just a problem. And look, I don’t know if trading for any of these guys solves that problem. But I think all of these players would be upgrades. Now, Michael Carter is dealing with a little something. So, I actually don’t know his situation. I think the question now, too, is do you go for more of a nickel or an outside guy? And the one player on this list that probably intrigues me the most for a variety of reasons is Alante Taylor because A, he knows Dennis Allen’s defense. So that would be a seamless transition. B, he could play nickel and outside. He’s got that versatility. So if and when Kyler Gordon does come back, okay, you can kick him outside. He can be a back. He could just be like a CB4, right? Like or maybe Nan Wright goes to the bench and he becomes your number two outside corner opposite of Tyreek Stevenson. Like you would have options there. Reek Willen’s really just an outside guy. Roger McCreary uh is really just a nickel. Douglas is really just an outside guy. Carter’s mostly a nickel. So, I think Alante Taylor, given he know knows the scheme and his positional versatility uh at nickel and outside corner, I think he’s the guy that intrigues me the most. So, then comes the question, what does it cost? Can you get him for like a six? I’d hate to have to give up a four or a five. I would not do a four. I would consider a five. Um, but you know, it’s it’s it’s a big decision you potentially have to make. And you know, certainly Tyreek Stevenson’s status would factor in. If they think he’s coming back this week, he might just give it another week and see how it goes. Uh, because Chase and Higgins are going to play primarily on the boundary, especially Higgins. But you get either of those two guys on Nick McCloud or whoever plays slot corner, that that could be a disaster because, uh, he’s having trouble keeping up with just kind of normal wide receivers right now. Should the Bears trade for a quarterback? Type T for trade or P for pass? Let us know in the comments section of this video. Should the Bears trade for a corner? And injuries continue to pile up. They just keep stacking. Uh three more players left on Sunday. Luther Burton with a concussion. Typically concussions, you’re going to miss the next game as well. So, barring something surprising, Burton’s probably going to be out against Cincinnati. Uh Shamar Turner left with the knee injury. That is not what you want to see from your second round rookie. Then Dominic Robinson hurt his ankle and did not return on the opening freaking kickoff. I mean, we should have known that opening kickoff of a penalty on the return and a Dom Rob uh injury was just a bad omen for the next 60 minutes uh to come. That was on top of Roshan Johnson not playing today, Tyreek Stevenson not playing today, Cole KT uh not playing today uh as well. And then, oh, by the way, you’ve got six players on short-term IR, including some key ones. Jaylen Johnson, no idea if he’s returning this year. Kyler Gordon out for the foreseeable future. Braxton Jones, he’s out. Karan Amagi, have heard no update on him. No idea what’s going on there. Austin Booker and Aean Agbog Bamiga have their practice windows open. And Booker specifically, you’ve got until Tuesday to activate him. Now, you would think they were going to activate him regardless by Tuesday, but now that Dominique Robinson and Shamar Turner got banged up. Don’t know the severity of those injuries, you would think that’s almost a no-brainer that he’s going to be back uh and active starting next week, but they have until Tuesday to activate them, activate Booker. If they do not, he’s out for the season. So, I would be stunned uh if Austin Booker isn’t activated uh by uh this coaching staff and placed on the 53. Uh again, you have to make a corresponding move to make that happen. Uh but actually, right now, you don’t. You have an open roster spot technically because remember, you put uh Gordon and Jones on short-term IR and you only signed Jonathan Ford to the 53. So, uh activating Austin Booker seems like an obvious move. Uh and then uh you go from there. So, that’s my prediction on what that happens there. Uh whether or not Booker can help you in a major way remains to be seen. This pass rush continues to be not very effective. Montes Sweat did have a strip sack that the Bears couldn’t recover, but other than that, we’re not getting much pressure at all on Tyler Huntley. All right, that’s going to do it for Chicago Bears now. Tough loss today, but uh got to turn the page. And I get it. There’s going to be a lot of noise around Caleb Williams. I’m seeing it all uh already. And I’m acknowledging he has to play better. I just I I’m nowhere near wanting to go the nuclear option, which is Tyson Bean. Said this live, I’ll say it now. You extended Tyson Beant for two years. You’ve given yourself time to consider that option down the road. We are seven games in to the Ben Johnson Caleb Williams experiment. I’m not punting on it. Seven games in. Be one thing if you were 1 and six 0 and seven and it was just embarrassingly bad. It’s not good enough, but I I I don’t think we’re at some Defcon 9 situation. So, um I said you had to split Baltimore and Cincinnati. Still have a chance to do that. Let’s see if you can. Let’s see if he can play better and go from there. Subscribe. Bear down. More content tomorrow.

Sure Caleb has to be better, but if it comes down to one play, from the opposite end zone, it’s not a winning situation lol. The D got exposed for giving up a lot of yards, no kidding, not enough depth to cover all 3 corners going out, piss pass rush as always. The special teams field position situation is more maddening than the offense or defense to me. Just indicates the lack of depth and talent on the overall roster. There’s only so much you can coach up players 20 yards away. Those are every team’s backups, and when they are simply bad to awful, when we rarely hit the 30, but the other team is regularly untouched by the 40, it shows you’re not a good team. The bears are who I thought they were 😂. This is a lower middle of the league team, with weak lines.
Get rid of Caleb he's not the answer period I don't care if he was drafted #1 that makes it all the more true he sucks period!
Caleb doesn't know how to go through his progressions he focus on one receiver, he's not a a pocket QB, takes to many sacks that's why a practice qb beet him!
Brother don’t talk about our draft Picks. We won’t get the right guy anyway. We never fucking do it’s so stupid at this point. I’d rather have panthers team at this point than the bears been a fan 20 years of pure disappointment
Our Defense folded as well as Caleb’s inaccuracy and not fast processing. Penalties have always been an issue YET NO ONE is cleaning them up. Zero discipline to correct these penalties
Same old, same old. A winnable game that wasn’t won. Caleb got outplayed by a third stringer. That’s not acceptable. Now comes the part when we hear the “we have to be better” comments. No duh. How about just being better and not just talking about it?
I blame Caleb Williams and his inability to quickly read defenses. I also blame Poles for picking a TE, a receiver they don’t target and a Oline player who does not even dress half the time instead of a DE, a RB and an Oline stud or Dline stud.
Play calling penalties stop trying to trick people when you're in the Red zone just play smash mouth football that's why it's so many penalties because they trying to trick them with with too much motion too many people moving around lineup head-to-head man on man and go get the touchdown
Caleb Trubisky Fields Williams is not the #1 pick he was pumped up to be to Ryan Poles. Ben Johnson = Marc Trestman. No discipline, the offense is better at committing penalties then scoring. Theo Benedict sucks, Joe Tunney was a waste of money and Jonah Jackson is terrible. Another clusterfck of a team with over payed over hyped players and coaches.
Our team is out of shape. We got way too many injuries. Our offensive scheme bogs down as the game progresses. Plus our schedule gets more difficult from here on out.
Caleb isn’t any better than last year but Ben Johnson’s play calling has been all that.
I let myself fall for the “Bears are good” banana in the tailpipe again after they beat 4 bad teams in a row. So tired of being a Bears fan. It’s exhausting
Caleb has to find more than just Odunze and Ben needs to get the TE involved in more than just blocking. Minimizing penalties would help as well.
The Packers and Steelers played tonight. Both of them are going to boat race us. I see 3 more winnable games on the schedule. Cincy is going to beat us next week the way we are playing.
Yeah you can tell the weakest link on the team is Caleb. All the players and coaches trying to boost his confidence but it's clear he is just slightly faster at his reads than Fields. Everything on script looked solid but as soon as it's not, his accuracy is as bad as they come. He clearly is down on himself after watching film and now he is second guessing everything.
Hot take… the play calling was garbage.. . And I'm a bj fan…
Again, BJ didn’t make Goff an all pro in year one. And at that point Goff had way more experience than Caleb. Let’s see how this plays out
Fire the training staff and get everybody healthy please
I think the bears are better in the red zone last year than this year
I thought defense did very well.Considering we have no cornerbacks
That being said, Caleb Williams needs to improve his accuracy.
The last 3 games He's been horrible and I thought today with Ben Johnson's worst cold game. We've been running the ball very well. Why weren't you running it what
It’s time for Tyson . Caleb doesn’t have the passion like Tyson . It’s time !!!!
We can't be last in penalties and yards per penalties in the league and have our qb playing like it's his first game. Our defense is also very injured. We won't beat any good teams playing the way we have.
I blame roquan Smith the x bear for showing up when he said he was injured and was not able to play he should have given us the game LOL. hey single-handed beat the bears
The Ravens DO have a good defense. Our defense gave up 30. There were piss poor drops, missed passes that shouldn't have been and yes…some overthrows. I saw plays where WRs did not make the attempt for the ball and TOO MANY DAMN STUPID PENALTIES….and the Ravens capitalized on it.
Who do I blame? The entire fucking team. They ALL shit the bed on this one.
I DNT THINK CALEB IS THE GUY NEVER THOUGHT HE WAS EVEN B4 HE GOT HERE LOOK AT ALL OF THE QB'S DRAFTED AFTER HIM THEY ARE DOING MUCH BETTER & MOST DNT HAVE HALF THE WEAPONS CALEB HAS HE HOLDS THE BALL WAY TO LONG
The ravens sat Lamar bc they knew Caleb would suck, what does that say! Caleb Williams is a bust time is out move on, be Johnson can’t even play call what he wants which makes him look like a shit headcoach bc he doesn’t trust Caleb
Caleb Williams is a bust 24 starts he’s not accurate, doesn’t see wide open receivers, terrible deep ball we should start scouting new qbs
Time ffor Tyson Bagent!!
How do you let Tyler Huntley beat you lol
We still have a quarterback problem
Just put in Tyson Bagent. What do you have to lose at this point. You want evidence he's better, it's called WORK ETHIC!
Michael Jordan said when you get a big contract before you ever play one game, you don't have to work as hard for something. You're getting paid off of potential, not performance. Caleb is going through the motions. Just showing up for a paycheck.
You think he's studying the other teams defense before games, the last one to leave, first one to show up, watching film? Give me a break. He's enjoying his 40 million dollars. Why would he care about anything else after making that? It's all an act. Coaches can't say anything because of sports politics. Caleb has a poor work ethic and it shows.
Inaccurate.
Bad sacks.
How long before Bagent starts?
Bears need a cornerback
Should have drafted Drake Maye……simple
I’m so sick of this fucking team. Meanwhile we have to watch the fucking packers go apeshit on prime time. Fuck everything.
The Bears playbook does not seem to change at all! Rome is Calebs only receiver he seems to be comfortable with! Moore and Burden need to be utilized! Play calling today was horrible! Defense is way to short handed to blame! But still no real pass rush! The next few weeks are going to be a disaster!
For the fans trying to bench or toss Caleb aside. Ask the Browns how bailing early on a #1 overall pick goes.
Lots of room for improvement. And I’m feeling strangely patient about it.
Let him sit and watch two weeks. Let’s his bumps and bruises heal. Caleb is costing Bears wins. Let’s see Bagent do his thing
