Washington Commanders Just Got A Triple Dose Of Good News Before MNF

All right. In a game that seems like it would be very, very difficult to win for the Washington Commanders, they have got good news after good news after good news after good news going into this thing. And what seems like a team that is reeling a little bit coming off two losses in a row, one to a division rival. Um, I have an explanation for that. And I also have some really, really good news. So, we’re going to start with the injury news. That’s good. And then I’m going to go into a couple of position battles and things that I think are going to be extremely helpful for you going into this game. I understand it’s a you know I understand it’s Monday Night Football. I understand it’s at Kansas City. I understand how difficult all that is. I really do. Like I I really do understand all of that. But there is some good things that are happening. All right. So with all that being said, let’s go into the injuries. Um, first I’ll talk about the good news for you. All right, you ready for this? Bobby Wagner, he’s good. No injury designation. Debo Samuel, good to go. Terry McLaren, good to go. Right. Sam Cosby, good to go. Welcome back. All right, so we look at all of these things. I could call that a triple dose of good news right there. Like I don’t think people understand and I understand this is the big one. I get that Jaden Jaden Daniels being out with the hamstring is a serious serious problem. However, getting these three guys back is huge and I’m going to explain why in just a second. Before I do that, if you are new to this channel, my name is Craig. Me and my buddy Chris started this. We are Detroit Lions fans. Yes, the Lions fans that you got the better of in uh the playoffs last year. not happy about that. But we’ve been covering the Commanders for a few years now. Uh because we saw something special over the last couple years. We knew and we were on the bandwagon early with this thing. We cover teams that the national media ignores. And so we are covering you. No other NFC East teams, by the way, but we’re covering the Commanders. And when I look at what’s happening with uh your quarterback, Jaden Daniels, I can go back and I can look at Sure. Right here. Let’s look at your schedule. You’ve got two losses in the last two games to the Bears and to Dallas. The Bears, it was rainy. It was nasty. It evened the playing field. Um, and so that is what it is. And then against Dallas, you lose you lose Daniels in the game. And there was a big big difference between Daniels and Mariota. When you look at the box score, when you look at what happened, here’s the difference between them. when you don’t have all of your weapons and you didn’t have any of your weapons in that game. Jaden Daniels is like, “Okay, I can still survive. Like, I can be a good serviceable quarterback. I can run a little bit. I can pass a little bit and we’ll be fine.” Marcus Mariota is a guy who can run a similar offense to Jaden Daniels, but he needs the talent around him. All right, let me explain it this way. Jane Daniels makes the everyone around him better. He raises the entire level of the offense. Marcus Mariota, if he has a really good offense around him, he can fit into that and continue running the play. That’s why one is a starter and going to be a star in this league and was last year in Jane Daniels and one is his backup. One is a career backup. That’s what Mariota has been. It is proven when he is a long-term starter, it doesn’t work. But it can work on spot starts. So, how can it work against the Chiefs? Well, let’s go back to the injury report here. The Chiefs are pretty darn helpful themselves or healthy. However, they have a couple um sorry, I zoomed in too much. All right. That are out. Josh Simmons, their tackle. Now, he had started losing playing time at tackle anyway. So, that’s not really a start, and that’s not an injury related. That’s personal. Something weird’s going on there. But Trey Smith, just a mountain of a guard. If they’re going to get anything going in the P in the run game, Trey Smith is one of the biggest reasons for it. So, when you look at this, these are one of those things that is very important to look at. So, I went over to PFF and what I what they do, and if you’re unfamiliar with PFF, um, here’s the way it works. They take a a grade for a player. Before I get to this, I’ll I’ll let you see my face as I’m explaining this. They give a grade to players based on what they were assumed to what their responsibility was for each play. They give them a grade for each play and then at the end of the game, they get an overall score out of 100 on how effective they were. And then when you combine all those scores together, they get a play whether it’s pass block, whether it was run block, whether it was receiving, whether it was being a running back, whether it was a quarterback, whatever it looks like, you get unit overviews. So when you look at the combined things as a team, the Chiefs grade out is a 79.7 and the commanders a 74.8. But let’s look at some of the stuff. Commanders are on the bottom. Let’s look at some of the places that the commanders have good grades and let’s see what that looks like against Let’s see what that looks like against the Chiefs. All right, offense 69, passing 80. That’s the Jaden Daniels effect. Pass block not great. 64. Welcome back, Cosm. Receiving 65. Hey, McLaren and Debo are back. That’s going to help your run 78. Believe it or not, run block is not good at 55.3. Welcome back, Sam. Defense, run, defense, tackling 51, pass rush 72, coverage 45.9. This coverage 45.9 will not continue. I don’t understand it for the life of me. I cannot understand what’s going on with that. But let’s look at some of the struggles of the Chiefs. They struggle in a couple of areas. run defense. They struggle. You are getting Sam Cosby back. You are getting receivers back, which means you should be able to run the ball because they are going to have to with McLaren being a deep threat with the gadget guy that is Debo Samuel. The defense is going to have to respect those things. They can’t just load up the box. So, they’re going to have to respect the passing game. You should be able to run the ball better on this. Getting Sam Cosby back at guard should help you run the ball better at this. your run blocking has not graded out well. However, that is where the Chiefs have struggled. They have struggled in run defense and they have struggled in tackling. All right, that recipe means give the ball to Bill. Give the ball to Bill. Let Marcus Mariota run the football. All right, do some read option. I don’t care. Do some RPO. All right, really put some stress on this defense because that is a way in which you can win this football game. On the other side of it, you should be able to stop the run. All right, with their injury report, with you gaining a guard in Cosmi and them losing a guard in Trey Smith, you should All right, again, Trey Smith right here, you should be able to come back and actually win this game on the ground. If you can do that, that is what’s going to give you the fighting chance. I understand that the Chiefs have their receivers back. I understand Worthy’s there. I understand Rice is there. I understand that they’re fully healthy when it comes to that. But if you can get some pressure on this offensive line and I again will stick to the fact that you have talent in the secondary, this should not be something that continues. All right? It shouldn’t be. So, lots of good news. There are ways to win this game, even with a backup quarterback. All right, but it’s time to go out and get a victory.
